A Difficult Day

Towards the end of last year, (so like a weekish ago), I ended up with a major migraine. One that kept me up all night so that I barely got any sleep.

And it was a day where....like everything conspired against me.

Like I had seriously considered calling out sick at oh...3ish am?? But then was like "Nah, I'll rest a bit longer." and by the time my morning shift rolled around I was actually feeling alright enough to go into work.

But I was thinking that maybe I would leave early so long as we had the coverage for me to do so.

We did not have the coverage to do so.

Why?

Because the mid manager who was supposed to come in. Called out sick.

That's fine. I wouldn't be able to leave before noon. I could handle that. But my closing manager would be in a couple of hours later. It would mean I would only be leaving an hour early, but hey, at least it was an hour earlier than my entire shift.

*exhales*

But then closing manager called and was like "Hey, I need to come in a couple of hours late."

Which Head Manager was like "Fine."

And I was just....mentally collapsing in a puddle of tears because that meant that the closing manager would come in around half an hour AFTER my regularly scheduled shift ended.

But hey! Perhaps we could contact the closing petcare person and have them come in an hour early instead.

Nope. Denied.

Petcare person never responded (because they were sleeping and didn't get the message until it was too late)

AND THEN.

To top it off I was like "Okay, well I can just leave at 3 when I'm off." Because we'd have a couple of cashiers at that point and the Head Manager would still be there and it would be fine even though my closing petcare person has had a bad habit of being 10-20 minutes late to their shift.

But hey it was a 10-20 minute gap that would be fine. No issue right?

Wrong.

2:55 hits and we get a crazy rush at the fish wall.

Aka like 8 different people decide they all need my help.

Which meant when all was said and done...I ended up clocking out TWENTY-FIVE MINUTES LATE.

To say I was in tears by the end of my shift is an understatement.

Because my migraine had come back full force and I just wanted to go home and die in bed and I was DENIED AT EVERY TURN.

It was soooo frustrating.

And to top off that night....

Just after 11pm.

I received a random text.

Where it was like "Hey did you just try to purchase over a $100 of food from this pizza place witih your credit card? If yes respond with yes. If no, please contact this number."

And I was like. O_o

Because....I hadn't used my credit card since before Christmas. So obviously No, I hadn't tried to buy pizza.

But like....I wasn't just going to respond to this random text either. Because like it could be a scam.

So I did the smart thing and used a different device to log into my bank account to check and see if I had any activity there.

Only to be confronted with a message saying that "Your card has temporarily been restricted. Please call this number."

Okay.

So a legit text then.

So I call the number provided on the banking website (not the text number because I was still slightly suspicious)

And yah.

Turns out. Someone tried to use my credit information to buy pizza...in CALIFORNIA.

*exhales*

I literally have no idea how this person even got my information.

Because it had been like over a week since I'd last used my card.

And I still had my card WITH ME.

So like...either one of the places online where I'd put in my credit information had ended up compromised.

Or else someone had one of those stupid electronic reader things that can just get your information from you if they're standing within range of your wallet.

*shakes head* I'll probably never know who or why or how they managed to get my information.

But I'm grateful for the quick response from my bank who was quick to flag the transaction as suspicious and deny the person their pizza party.

Still left me slightly stressed out though for the past weekish.

Just because I don't like not having access to things. And while I don't use my credit card often. I do like having the option to use it. So to not have it...yah it wasn't a horrible thing, but it was a slightly stressful thing. And just what I didn't need after dealing with a migraine for over 24 hours.

*shakes head*

Still. Glad I was able to get it all quickly sorted.

Until you next find these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Call Me Back

So, last night, one of my other managers sent me a text that a lady had called the store wanting to talk to me specifically. So they had taken down her name and number so that I could call her back.

And that was it.

Like.

My manager didn't give me any other details. Not even the all important "WHY they were calling" detail.

And like...I had no idea why a customer would want to speak to me specifically to the point where they would want me to call them back instead of them just waiting until I was actually at work and calling then.

And my other manager was like. "Oh yah.... I probably should have a dug a bit better and gotten more details, she just kept cutting in and out so I was having a hard time understanding her."

*exhales* Yah MORE DETAILS would BE NICE.

That way I wouldn't be worrying about just WHY the customer wants to talk to me specifically.

Like obviously it's probably advice related stuff. But is it advice with Fish? With Cats? With Birds? What animal is this customer looking for help from me for?

In any case.

When I had a moment today at work, I gave this customer a call.

And turns out I do know who this person is.

They're one of the regulars I've interacted with consistently over the past handful of years. I know I've been helping them since before the pandemic. So probably a good 4 or 5 years at least I've helped this customer.

Heh.

I just like....never knew her name?

Like that's not something that really gets passed along in the retail world. The customers know the worker's names due to our name badges, but we don't always know their names.

Honestly...I don't think I know any of my regular customer's names.....

Any who.

The reason why this particular customer had called and wanted to speak to me specifically.

Is because this particular customer is also in the fish hobby. And has bought multiple tanks and tons and tons of fish over the years. The main standout being that she loves our sharks. Specifically our Bala Sharks, but I think she and her husband have gotten the red-tailed and the rainbow sharks as well.

But yah. I've known her as the Shark Lady.

And she can be....a rather particular customer on occasion. Not in a bad bad way. But there's the occasional visit where she's more difficult to work with than on other visits.

In any case.

The reason why she wanted to talk to me is because she and her husband are moving.

So they need to get rid of their fish. And their largest tank. A 120 gallon. And she wanted to know if I was interested in any of those.

Which I'm pretty sure my roomies would kill me if I tried to come home with a 120 gallon fish tank when I already have a 125 at home.

Lol lucky for my roomies I have no interest in another giant tank. I love the one I got. Don't need another.

The fish though....it's like a pros and cons thing.

Because she has 5 bala sharks.

And do I want 5 of those sharks? No not particularly. Especially if they're larger. But I do just have 1 bala shark left in my own tank that would probably like a buddy....

But it's also like...my 125 is at a pretty good point right now. The fish are healthy. Nothing is dying. I'm content with the fish that are in there. So adding in 5 balas and potential another handful to a dozen of 'silver fish' that she also has....could upset everything.

*exhales*

So. Currently I'm having the customer bring the fish to me in a couple of days. So I can see their sizes and evaulate and such. I'll probably end up taking most of them home anyways. But at least I'll have a better idea of what I'm working with when I see all the fish.

So yah. We'll see how that goes.

So got rid of one stress by finally figuring out why the customer wanted me to call them.

But added in another stress of should I actually be taking in all her fish???

*shakes head*

Guess we'll see how it goes lol.

Until you next find these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Where's the Sun?

 So.

Waaaaay back in 2018. Like...September I think??

I thought it would be fun to spend a month taking pictures of the sunset each day and post them online.

And honestly, I only intended to do it for a month and then stop.

But then like....a lot of people commented that they liked the pictures? And I'm pretty sure my Mom was one of those people.

So I decided to continue taking pictures of the sunsets whenever I could.

And it's crazy to think that this is something that I've been doing for a little over 4 years now.

I honestly didn't expect that I would keep that particular 'hobby' as it is up for so long.

But it's actually pretty easy to do so all things consider.

I just need to have access to my phone's camera and well...be looking outside when the sun sets and walla! Photo moment!

But so far 2023 has been weird.

Because it's been 5 days of the new year.

And I've yet to get any pictures of the sun setting.

The last time I got a picture of the sunset was Christmas Eve of last year.

So like that's what nearly 2 weeks of me not getting sunset pictures?

It's crazy!

And like. Not all of it is exactly in my control.

We've had a bunch of storms the past couple of weeks. Most of them happening right towards dark so there is no sun to see set.

But I've also had to work more shifts that last until after dark.

And unless I time it right in grabbing carts or something -which obviously I haven't timed it right- then I miss the sun set those days too.

Like I know the sun shown both Tuesday and Wednesday.

But due to me working past dark....I missed those days.

And tonight? Tonight was another potential incoming storm with the clouds clogging up the horizon.

So yah.

It's crazy to think it's been nearly 2 weeks since I've last seen the sun set.

And it's got me feeling kinda off?

Like.

I've still been taking pictures....just not of the sun.

And yet I feel this itch to do so.

Like. Where is the sun? Where are the setting colors I've seen nearly every day for over 4 years?

It's weird.

*exhales*

At this point though, I am curious.

Just how long will it be before I can get another sunset picture?

Afterall the next week shows that we're having another series of storms coming in.

So it may be a while before I can manage.

Guess we'll see.

I'll be watching the leaves.

Too Much Leading

You know ... ... It was probably too much to expect that after working like crazy to get some of our product from our truck out onto the floor yesterday ... ... that I wouldn't need to be doing any stocking related tasks today beyond facing the store.

*exhales*

Should have known better.

Like I get that our stocking manager is out on vaca currently so like things aren't getting done as quickly when it comes to the truck ... especially when they keep sending us too much of certain product so we have to hunt down places to put all the extra stuff.

And honestly I probably wouldn't have minded freight in general as it gives me something to do to help the time pass.

But at the same time....due to shifting schedules with the new year. There was also a gap between the morning managers leaving and the closing manager coming in.

A nice little four hour gap of me being the only manager on duty.

Which I do not like.

Like I am used to it. At night. When the store is closing in a couple of hours. I expect the alone time there. Plus things are less likely to go wrong at night.

Today though, I was by myself in the middle of the day. Where anything and everything could happen. And I don't like being the only one in charge like that.

Like overall it's fine.

But when I was basically the only one in charge yesterday -as I felt like I was trying to do everything so my sick manager wouldn't have to do much of anything-- having to basically be in charge AGAIN for like 4 hours....left me tired.

Honestly it was even before the morning crew left that it felt like I was the only manager in charge.

And I know I signed up for leadership duty. I'm well used to being a leader.

But I've been woefully underprepared to have to expend that particular amount of energy to "being in charge" and being the "go getter."

So it's left me exhausted and just a bit grumpy.

*exhales*

Thankfully yesterday and today were my only 'manager' shifts and the rest of the week I'm just to focus on petcare.

Because if I had to do another day of work of being the "leader" i might have just sat in a corner and cried instead.

Definitely not up to being in charge this week anymore. Nope. Nope.

Until you next find these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Help Out

One of my struggles in 2022 was the feeling of...well doing too much.

Like it felt like I was trying to help everyone else... .... But no one was helping me in return.

And like... I'm pretty independent. And oftentimes waaay introverted so the best way for me to Recharge is to like just vegge at home where I don't have to interact with people or have any expections or needs placed upon me.

The feeling of "I help everyone but no one helps me" has had its waves at work.

There are days where I feel like I'm the only one doing anything and everyone else is doing nothing.

Like I recognize that my coworkers and fellow managers are doing things.

But like. They're only focusing on doing 'their' things.

Extras? Tasks that kinda blur the lines as to which 'department' they belong to? Yah no. It feels like everyone else leaves them by the wayside and I end up picking up the slack.

It's not the case.

But it feels like it.

And like. I'm a helpful sort of personality. I like making the job easier for everyone.

But I hate it when I don't get that support back.

Especially when it doesn't always feel like I can ask for help at work.

Afterall I'm the most senior member there.

Therefore I have the most experience.

And with my focus being more petcare....and with me often being the only one on duty who is knowledgeable in petcare. A lot of the pressures there fall to me. Especially with customers.

And it's frustrating where you suddenly get called to adoptions and fish and crickets and hamsters all in a ten minute period. And you're only one person. Because you don't think anyone else is available to help you.

I brought this up to my Head Manager at one point. Where it feels like I'm not supported but I'm trying to support everyone else and she was like "Well, do you ask for help?"

Like...why ask for help if I know it's not available?

But I have been trying to make more of an effort to speak up and ask for assistance when things are getting a bit crazy. And I think Head Manager spoke to the other fellow managers as they have been a bit more willing to step in to help out when I need it.

But today?

*exhales*

Today was another day where it felt like I was the only thing keeping the store running.

As, before I'd even come into work, Head Manager had messaged me with a list of tasks that 'we' needed to get done today because HM wouldn't see me today to tell me in person.

Said tasks mostly focused on Stocking related things. Putting away the remaining cat food, taking care of a petcare pallet, taking care of a couple cat tower pallets. That sort of thing.

And like. It wouldn't really be a big deal.

I wanted to try and make sure that I was having other people help in this task.

But like the Cashiers were busy being cashiers, the petcare person was busy helping petcare customers.

And my fellow manager who was supposed to be helping me with said Stocking Tasks.....had fallen sick.

Like they were there at the store, but you could tell and hear that they weren't feeling good. So they were moving like molasses in getting things done.

And me being me....I tend to focus on tasks. I tend to try and take responsibility. I try to help ease my coworkers way.

Which means I didn't push as much as I probably should have to have my fellow manager help out. Or to reach out to Petcare and have them help out.

And I'd had some hopes that fellow manager could get at least one pallet done.

But they'd barely touched it.

I'd managed to cat the cat stuff done...even though it took a couple of hours to do it because I kept getting interrupted by phone calls -because I was trying to answer the phone so my coworker wouldn't have to- as well as just...trying to be the first person in the store to offer to help when people needed backup and such.

Knowing that I wouldn't get it in return.

And knowing that I had multiple tasks that we needed to get done.

*exhales* Like there was a tower of petcare supplies taller than me and I managed to work that entire thing in a couplish hours despite frequent interruptions. Like pretty sure I'd put away 99.5% of that pallet while my coworker put away like %.5 percent of it.

But yah.

It was just.... a tiring day. A day where it felt like I was the only one who could answer the phone, the only one putting away product, the only one backing up cashier, the only one doing manager related tasks, the only one doing etc etc etc.

And I recognize that wasn't fully the case. My petcare worker helped out where they could as well as my fellow manager helped out with the cashier related stuff.

But I also recognize a bit of my stress and overwork was due to my own need to try and help my fellow manager have an easier day at work.

*exhales*

In any case.

It's left me tired.

And annoyed because I only got half of the stuff HM assigned us done. But still. Progress is progress....

Until you next find these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

The Skinny Pig Saga

 So.

This story starts New Years Eve.

We have 1 cat left in our adoption center.

And we all were hoping he would be adopted before the end of the year because that would be so awesome if all the cats were gone before the end of 2022.

After all, the poor kitty had been the only one left in the adoption center for a couple of days now.

It was still morning. Not even lunch time yet.

When I get a call over the radios that there's a guy interested in possibly adopting the cat.

Cool. It wasn't busy. So I head on over.

And admittedly. The dude gave me an off vibe from the very beginning.

Mostly because he basically started the conversation with "I lost my cat 3 days ago." Depending on which coworker dealt with him the dude would tell you he either "was stolen" or "lost" or possibly "dead." and since it's been 3 days. The cats obviously never coming back.

Like ... ... ... Dude. I would give it at minimum a week if not a month before assuming that your cat is gone forever.

Especially since I don't think he ever gave details on just how the cat vanished. Simply that it's been gone for 3 days.

So yah. It's sad news. But I'm always a bit skeptical of the people who immediately go out after 'losing' a pet and try to replace it.

Like give yourself time to grieve first. Or at least make more of an effort to check the local shelters and pounds and such to see if your cat has turned up there.

Plus with like the holiday weekend upon us....it wouldn't be surprising if most places were closed or closing early.

But I felt the dude should make more of an effort to find his "Bengal kitty" that he "adopted from us about a year ago."

... ... I highly doubted we adopted out a Bengal cat. That would be pretty remarkable and memorable. But more than likely the kitty just had a similar coloration to a bengal?

In any case.

I get our last remaining kitty (a black and white tuxedo) out of the cage for him to see.

And like the cat's tolerating the guy as he's asking me all these questions (what's the breed, the cat's 3 years old is that old? How long do cats live? Will he be able to bond properly with me if he's already that old.) But it's not exactly a love at first sight sort of response. The cat was barely tolerating being on the dude's lap.

Making me think again, that this isn't the best fit for the customer. Especially if he has no idea how long cats live for. Like... ... research is a thing dude. If you've had cats before how do you not know how long they live?

Especially since said customer is going on and on about all the cool things his old cat could do.

Slightly concerning things.

Like the fact that the dude could have the cat unharnessed, sitting in his lap, as he wheeled up and down State Street and the kitty wouldn't react to any of the loud noises and would just sit there.

Which yes, some cats are really chill.

But it is a bit of a red flag that the customer made a point to say that the cat wasn't secured. Like... if you don't want your cat to get startled and run off...it's best to keep them on a harness and leash at minimum when outside if not in a carrier where they can't get loose.

In any case.

The customer decides to think about it.

Mostly because he wasn't sure how to get the Cash he needed for the adoption fee.

As we only do cash or venmo for our adoption groups. Since the money goes straight to them and doesn't go through the store/corporate at all.

He was concerned that he wouldn't be able to get to the bank in time to withdraw the needed money and that his bank may have already closed for the day. (Saturday. New Years Eve. Yah banks probably closed early)

Which was a bit confusing because it wasn't like the fee was large as the adoption prices had actually been cut in half for the past couple of months. And like.... ATMs exist. It should be simple to drop by one of those regardless of the time of day to withdraw money from them.

Still.

The customer also seems to be wiffling on actually wanting to get a cat. Or continue searching for his other kitty.

-I would say search for your cat dude.

But I placed the kitty on hold for him for three hours.

And desperately hope that the dude doesn't come back in the timeframe because like... he was giving off a vibe that wasn't quite right.

But THEN.

Like not even half an hour after I put the cat on hold.

A woman comes up to me. Eyes shiny with tears. She's practically bawling because she's going through a 'grieving phase' as she puts it. But she's super upset because she'd come into the store specifically to adopt the cat and she saw that he'd already gone to another home and it was just like....the worst thing ever for her.

I was quick to give her some hope though.

After all the kitty hadn't been adopted yet. So I told her. The cat was on hold until 230. If the previous customer doesn't come by that point, then the hold stops and I could place the cat on hold for her. That I could even call her after 3pm (since customers are known to be 10-15 minutes late) to let her know that the cat was still available.

And I was sure to add on. "If you don't hear from me after 3pm, assume that the cat's been adopted. I'll only call if he's been adopted."

Which left me desperately hoping that I would be able to call her and that the other customer wouldn't come back to get the kitty.

Time passes.

And like 10 minutes to 3, my other manager answers a phone call. Where a customer is asking if the kitty is still on hold as they were told the hold would end at 230.

After double checking who the person was on the phone. It was confirmed that the person on the phone was the husband of the woman who'd come in earlier.

And his words were "Do not call her."

Which :S :S :S Automatically the mind goes to "Oh no, he doesn't want the cat and this is the easiest way to make sure she doesn't get the cat."

Which if that had been the case .... I may have gone along with it .... I don't like it when spouses aren't on the same page when it comes to acquiring new pets and I don't like being part of the discord if one spouse decides to disregard the other spouse's preferences.

However the husband on the phone was like "I'm coming right now to get the cat. I want to surprise her with it."

Which !!! That's exciting and so sweet that the husband wants to surprise his wife with the kitty she desperately wanted.

So the husband comes in, does all the paper work super quick and takes the cat home.

Huzzah!

I hope it was a joyful happy end to 2022 for the couple and their new cat.

Plus like. It was great because the first dude didn't show back up. So I was hoping that he had changed his mind and that he decided to keep looking for his first cat instead.

No dice.

Instead. A while after I'd gone home.

The dude comes back in a bit before 5pm.

And was super pissed off to discover that the cat was gone.

Like dude. I gave you until 230 to come into the store. Not my fault you waited and someone else took the kitty home.

Bue he apparently started swearing up a storm (a coworker thinks he was drunk) and literally pulls out a literal wad of cash. And offers one of my managers on duty said wad of $1800 (so he says) to have them call the other customers and make them bring the cat back so he can adopt him.

You know.... I think that's the first time we've had someone try to bribe us. O.o

But also like. Weird? Because the dude was literally struggling earlier today with the fact that the adoption fee was TWENTY-FIVE Dollars. And that he would need to go to the bank to get that money.

Maybe he just couldn't believe it was only $25 to get the cat?  But still. It was weird that he seemed sooo concerned about 'how much' it was...only to bring in a huge wad of cash.

In any case like dude. No? The other people adopted the cat fair and square. We're not going to ruin their happy storybook ending just to appease you.

My other manager tells him "No, I'm not going to call the other customer."

And somewhere in there another customer nearby overhears the conversation and is like "Oh! I have a cat I can adopt out to you!" So he started chatting with them....and according to a different manager actually gave the customer a 'down payment' for the kitty that he would come get at some point?

But at the same time....I get word from the first manager that he's also looking into buying a rodent as a pet instead. At first it was thought to be a hamster. Turns out he wanted a Skinny Pig instead.

Which is another red flag in a way.

Because like it's always suspicious when customers upon being denied one animal immediately decide to settle for a different animal. It usually indicates they're trying to settle a 'need' but aren't sure what the 'need' is. That or they're in an 'impulse buy' frame of mind and just want to 'buy something' regardless of what the creature is they're purchasing.

But Like dude. If you really wanted another CAT. Why in the world are you buying a Skinny Pig?

And like.

I was rather concerned for the Skinny Pig. Because it was snowing/raining rather consistently all of New Years Eve and had turned into full on snow by the time the sun had set.

And so I was worried about how the cold would affect the Skinny Pig because like....they don't have fur.

At this point, honestly, I was mentally erecting a mini gravestone for the Skinny Pig. Because odds were extremely high it would be returned to us within the next week. Dead.

Just from the vibe I got from the dude when interacting with him earlier, but also from what my managers and coworkers were telling me about his second visit.

I figured that Skinny Pig would not last long as the dude's pet.

Still. According to the second manager. They set the dude up with everything that the skinny pig would need. He probably dropped a good $300 or so on the Skinny Pig, Cage, plus extra supplies.

So like. At least we knew he was semi serious about it since he was willing to buy everything for the skinny pig.

Not that the dude couldn't afford it. Him and his $1800 worth of cash that he really shouldn't be waving around willy nilly and proclaiming how much he has on him. Like we might be considered "Happy Valley" here but that doesn't mean it's like a 100% a safe spot where no one would try to take advantage of that.

In any case.

The dude gets his skinny pig. And maybe the promise of another kitty from the customer??? and vanishes off into the sunset.

In which we all fervently hope that we never hear from him again.

Alas.

It wasn't meant to be.

I was behind the fishwall finishing up some dishes for the bird bedding change I was in the middle of doing when I get a call from Head Manager over the radio that I'm needed to help a customer.

Though it got a bit garbled at the end. So I asked for clarification as behind the fish wall can be noisy.

And Head Manager is like "The guy returned the skinny pig, I'm isolating it now, but the customer needs help getting the rest of his supplies into the store to do a return."

Which on the one hand.

Totaly CALLED IT.

KNEW the guy was going to bring the skinny pig back.

I'm just relieved that he came back ALIVE.

Because I was pretty certain I'd only see this customer again if the skinny pig was dead. *shakes head*

In any case.

The dude continues to not put himself in the greatest of lights.

Like yes, he returned the skinny pig to us alive.

But like. According to my head manager, he literally tossed -yes TOSSED- the open box (so not secured) holding the Skinny Pig onto the counter of Register 1 and was like "I want to return him."

Like dude. YOU DON'T THROW ANIMALS. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!?!

Red Flag. Another Red Flag. Ugh.

So my Head Manager is taking care of the Skinny Pig and I grab a cart to help the dude get all his supplies out of his car.

All of his supplies sans cage. The cage is nowhere to be found. And I was like "Where is the cage? You can return that too."

And he's like "Oh no, I put it together wrong, and I'll just take the loss."

Like dude. I'm not sure which cage you bought but most of them are OVER A HUNDRED DOLLARS and you're just taking the Loss on it?! Bring it back and get your money back!

-His money logic makes no sense whatsoever to me. How can you be so blaise about just taking the loss on over $100?!

But yah he was like "Yah, I couldn't get the cage together properly and so I was keeping the skinny pig in the bathtub instead."

*record scratch*

WHAT

WHY?

Like dude. What would you do with the skinny pig when you wanted to TAKE A BATH or a SHOWER?? Do you just have an extra unused bathroom or something???

-According to my Head Manager he mentioned he didn't like how the Skinny Pig was "pooping all over the carpet." leading us both to believe that he was trying to treat the Skinny Pig like it was a cat, like in expecting it to use a litter box or something instead of going to the bathroom willy nilly.

Dude. If you want a cat. GET A CAT. don't get a different animal and expect it to BE A CAT. Because IT WON'T BE. *shakes head*

But yah. The dude was keeping the poor Skinny Pig in the bathtub and was like "But I realized that was probably not the best so I brought him back."

Like at least YOU BROUGHT HIM BACK Before He DIED.

Ugh.

So I help the dude get all his stuff (but no cage) back into the store.

And he's like "Oh by the way, you know about people taking care of cats?" And I'm like "????" And he's like "Well you see, I was thinking about getting a cat from a lady, but she sent me a picture of it and like...the conditions...weren't good. You could see fecal matter all over. So like....is it a good idea to get the cat from there? Like would it be fixed? Vaccinated?"

Like dude.... those would be questions you should be asking the current owner of the cat? Like it literally depends on the person but most people selling cats don't always get them fixed or vaccinated so that would be on him to get that all done.

-Like wouldn't you ask those questions before apparently giving the lady a down payment? Are you just throwing money around now? Can you throw money my direction if you're doing that? Like if you had $1800 in cash on Saturday how much of it do you actually still have today if you're just giving money willy nilly to people???

If you did the down payment....shouldn't you go through and GO GET THE CAT???

I don't understand him.

I don't understand him at all.

AND.

To make matters worse.

After he left, I had a realization.

Of all the packages of bedding and food and hay and such that I brought into the store....

I hadn't noticed a single one of them opened.

So I went back over to the returns to double check them and yep. Not a single one was opened.

Which okay, maybe he bought multiple bags of food and just didn't bring back the open one?

But like he had 2 unopened bags of BEDDING. Which begs the question did you put anything down in the bottom of the bathtub or did you leave the poor HAIRLESS skinny pig in direct contact with the porcelain bottom of your TUB?! Like dude. Those animals can't retain HEAT. They need to have protective layers between them! How warm are you keeping your home?! Like he could FREEZE.

And then there's the unopened bag of food. And the unopened bag of hay.

Does that mean that the Skinny Pig hasn't been fed since 5pm on SATURDAY? It's MONDAY.

Not to mention did the Skinny Pig even have access to WATER? Did you give him water dude?! Did you even take the cage out of it's box to access the water bottle there or did you just dribble water from the faucet in the tub and hope for the best?

Like Skinny Pigs burn a lot of energy. They need to eat a lot. So not giving them food or water for like THIRTY SIX HOURS IS BAD.

And after that the dude STILL WANTED TO ADOPT A CAT.

Like at this point I'm highly doubting that he's fit to own any animals. And definitely wondering what exactlly happened to his first cat.

Thankfully. Our adoption group hadn't yet been in contact with me at that point on just when they were bringing us more cats.

So we still had empty cages at that point when the dude came in.

And I told him it was possible that the cats wouldn't be here until Wednesday or Thursday and to call the store first to check as they usually come in the afternoons.

But.

They came today instead.

And knowing that this dude was wanting to adopt the cat.

And having definite Red Flags of "This probably isn't a good idea" but also mixed with "But he kept the cat alive for around a year so maybe he can only take care of cats?" worries, I asked the adoption group what they would want us to do in this situation after explaining it to them.

And the adoption group was like "Yah, No. Don't adopt to him."

So now we have the "Fun" not Fun Job of denying this customer the adoption when/if he comes back into the store.

*exhales*

Considering the fit he threw the first time when we had 'no cats' available. I'm not expecting it to go well and I'm hoping that I'm not the one who has to deal with him if he does return.

*fingers crossed* that he goes for the other customer's cat instead? One can hope.

But yah.

It's just....a messed up situation. *exhales*

But hey, we at least got the Skinny Pig back alive. So yay for small blessings.

I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

A New Year

It's...kinda hard to know what to write with the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023 upon me.

Like...2022 was ... I guess a Stasis year? It didn't really feel like I did much. Didn't really accomplish much. It was the same old same old for the most part.

Basically my life has just been "work."

Haven't really gone anywhere.

Haven't really met anyone new.

Or done anything new.

It was basically a year to endure if anything.

Just get through the next moment, the next hour, the next day, look forward to my day off so I could just chill at home and not have to worry about anything.

Where I could just read.

And boy did I read. Like a lot.

Which was probably something I needed.

Just a chance to get lost in other people's world.

Because mine has become rather Meh.

And I realize it's Meh.

It's not fun though when people point it out.

Like it's hard to want to talk to people when they say things like "Don't you do anything besides work?" or "Have you done any projects recently?" "Have you worked on anything new?"

Ha.

Like no?

No.

and

NO.

And it's just been hard to find the motivation to do things.

Was I depressed most of 2022?

Probably.

I just didn't have the energy to do anything.

And if I did find the energy to try and be creative, something would happen that would just drain the energy and creativity right back out.

Could I have done more to try and get my energy up?

Probably.

But sometimes....someone just needs a break.

However.

With the new year starting.

Perhaps its time to pick up some hobbies -like blogging- that I've let drop by the wayside. Time to make time for things besides reading. Besides scrolling through the various medias.

Time to start up a craft. A hobby. Writing. Time to take more interest in things I'm interested in but also share them with others as well.

Who knows how it will go.

But it's definitely probably time for me to untuck my head from under my wing and attempt to fly somewhere this year.

Until you next find these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!
