196th Semiannual General Conference - Saturday Highlights

 Saturday Morning

Gerrit W. Gong

  • Temple marriages are meant to last forever. Covenant belonging unites a family -parents and children- for eternity.
  • God will not require you to be sealed and live in an eternal relationship that you did not choose.
  • Rich blessings await. Do not procrastinate until the end. Do not deliberately delay the peace and freedom Christ wants you to have now.
  • 1. A temple dedication is a beginning. 2. Faithful members sacrifice to be sealed in the temple. 3. Everything in each temple testifies of Christ. 4. Temple sacrifice and service requires a spirit of gratitude. 5. Please consider obtaining your own ceremonial temple clothing.
  • Let us celebrate and treasure even more the spiritual blessings that temples bring.
  • As the seasons of our lives allow, we can regularly serve in the temple.
  • Ordinances are not big or small. Covenants are not big or small. Let us not speak of a temple as big or small but speak with gratitude that you have a House of the Lord there.
  • Look for the miracles.

Tamara W. Runia

  • It is human nature to want to fix things and it is frustrating when we come across things that we cannot fix.
  • God intends for us to get what we need, not what we want.
  • I know that God loves me, so what is supposed to be happening here? We're supposed to learn to be like him and love like him.
  • Our stories may not look like success to others, it may look like the opposite and feel like that, but God is shaping us into the best us we can become.
  • God sees you loves you and knows your story.
  • God is aware of your experiences and has a plan for your life. For all our lives.
  • We have a choice. We can curse and blame God for what happens in our lives, or we can bless and sustain him. Have faith that he knows us and that he will help us grow from the experience.
  • Change it from something that's happening TO you to instead something that is happening FOR you.
  • There is a sculpting taking place in each of our hearts. Let the Savior work on you to make you a masterpiece.

Gerald Causse

  • Be of good cheer. And do not fear. For I the Lord am with you and stand by you.
  • Through your testimonies in word and deed you demonstrate the reality of a loving Savior and the blessings that come through his Gospel.
  • The gift of testimony is deeply personal and is shaped according to our unique experiences, circumstances, and needs.
  • Trust in your testimony because it is uniquely yours.
  • Our testimony is a gift meant to be shared, not hidden.
  • Do you believe what you said? Then that's all that matters.
  • Do you realize that your testimony can literally change lives as you share it?
  • How many Almas are around you waiting to hear your witness to help them rediscover their own testimony? Their hope?
  • You can share your beliefs in simple and natural ways.

Vaiangina Sikahema

  • Even if we have ways to easily see and hear the Lord's voice, we will still take them for granted.
  • What a blessing it is to live in a time where prophets and apostles are on the earth.

Kevin J. Hathaway

  • The question isn't IF he will deliver but how or when he will do so. Christ always delivers. We just 'don't know the method or the timing.
  • Opposition comes to all. Even to the righteous.
  • Acts of faith will draw us closer to Christ.
  • The Lord is not delayed, distracted, or derelict in your trials. However, he knows that lessons learned while waiting can produce growth that would otherwise not happen.
  • Christ specializes in the seemingly impossible. He makes the impossible possible. And he's really good at it.
Ulisses Soares
  • Light after darkness, healing after weariness, and when we call upon the Lord he will be near.
  • Fasting is an expression of our desire to draw nearer to Christ.
  • Fasting and Prayer may not remove every burden in our path, but it does draw heaven nearer and gives us the spiritual fortitude to remain faithful.
  • Look beyond yourselves. Turn your hearts towards His children.
  • Fasting when observed with joy can bring a deeper and more personal connection with Christ.

Sean Douglas

  • You are an Army of Righteousness. A Force of Faith.
  • Take care not to become distracted. Prioritize. Don't let anything get in your way. You are needed.
  • There is still plenty of room and a special place reserved for each one of you. Come. Join the ranks.
D. Todd Christofferson
  • Time has not made gambling anymore worthwhile or useful.
  • The central risk of gambling is not that people lose money, but that it is addicting. That it will increase debt and create far reaching family and social cost as it becomes more easier to access via your phones.
  • As a society we're making a risky bet that we can reap the rewards of gambling without paying a costly price.
  • Gambling, in the end, provides nothing of value.
  • Bless those who hunger and thirst after righteousness.
Saturday Afternoon

Dale G. Renlund
  • Are you focusing on the little issue in front of you rather than the big miracle that's happened in front of you.
  • Are you focusing on the here and now and lose sight of the bigger picture? Where we've been and God's promises to us?
  • God will never break his covenant with you.
  • God promises spiritual peace no matter our circumstances. We can experience joy here and now through him.
  • There is more than enough to cover each of us under Christ.
  • We can trust the Lord, especially his promises.

Timothy L. Farnes
  • It's what we do. Isn't it?
  • Administer with compassion to whoever God places in our path.
  • See the person God places in your path. Act with compassion.
  • Put compassion into action.

Christian C. Chigbundu
  • The Lord has provided us with small and simple things to help great things to come to pass in our lives.
  • All is well.
  • Our lives will be refined and reshaped gradually as we place our trust in Christ.
Patricio M. Giuffra
  • There are no exceptions to the commandment to pay tithing. You should not try to deny the blessings that come from paying it.
  • We keep the commandments because we love God. They are given to us to help us draw closer to the Savior, but also to protect us, help us.
  • The law of tithing is a law of faith.
Jeremiah J. Morgan
  • No time or effort is ever wasted in reading the Book of Mormon
  • Sooner or later you will feel the tentacles of divine Providence reaching out to draw you back into the fold.
  • Covenants do not take a day off.
  • You have not traveled beyond the reach of divine love.
  • Don't ever give up. Your story. Your Family's story is not finished yet.
Hutch U. Fale
  • I am a child of God.
  • Everything goes back to the Family.
  • You did not do anything to earn love. You don't need to do anything to keep that love. That love is everlasting. No matter what you do you will be loved.
  • Knowing and Understanding our Father's love is important because 1. Understanding our Father's love better helps us understand Christ. 2. When we understand God's love to us and his children we become immune to the labels of the fallen world. 3. Understanding God's love protects us from the lie that it is too late for someone to change, to turn to Christ, to receive his redeeming grace.
Patrick Kearon
  • You cannot see it but the unseen force of Christ's love is there. Lifting you up. Guiding you.
  • With Christ's all powerful hand, he lifts us from our sinking ways.
  • Seek out those sinking into darkness and lift them up.
  • Spiritual lift cannot be seen, but as we learn to sense it we can feel it.
  • Find a faithful guide and learn from them where lift is found.
  • When you find lift yourself, show someone else where to lift and rise and share the joy in the Lord.
  • Keep turning to the Savior, to lift up to him. To rise into his light.
  • Your Savior is your Lift. He is your ever rising air. There is no limit to how high you can climb with him. Christ lives to lift.

Michael A. Dunn
  • I know you can do this and I am going to get you there.
  • This is your race to finish.
  • Christ simultaneously lifts and uplifts us in our lives.
  • Christ rescues us by not shortening our course by lengthening our stride.
  • Take solace that feeling broken does not mean that you have been abandoned by God. We often cannot see the Lord's hand in our lives until after the Trials have passed.
  • Peace will come even if hopeful outcomes do not.

Matthew J. Eyring
  • Do not allow your trials to negatively affect your faith.
  • Some day we will realize how generous and kind the Lord has been to us. And realize that they are truly givers of good gifts.
  • Remember the Husband who is also suffering when there are trials dealing with the Wife. Both Husband and Wife need their own blessings.
  • Living with the constant companionship with the Holy Ghost should be one of our highest priorities.
Ronald A. Rasband
  • In our grief we continuously ponder the whys, hows, and what ifs.
  • There is always a way back through the Atonement.
  • To all those who grieve, Christ says: I've got this.
  • Love is not stepping back and sanctioning others and their actions. Love is lifting with faith and hope, love is being interested in their lives. Love relies on the calming influence of the Holy Ghost. It's loving them for who they are.
  • The path is marked by love.
  • Avoid what is harsh and hateful. Seek instead what is holy. Seek to be peacemakers.
  • Love is the answer to connecting to all of our loved ones.
