Why Blog?

I've been thinking recently.
About Blogging.

Because a friend of mine mentioned that they wanted to start blogging again, because they had a ton of stuff/stories that they wanted to share....but they didn't want to go through the effort of blogging if no one was going to read their blog posts.

And I couldn't help but think...
That that's really the wrong way to go about it.

I've noticed over the years, and with friends/family starting up blogs....
That they haven't lasted.
There are those that only post a handful of times before their blog goes quiet.
Others have posted for a while...but because of life....have stopped posting.

There are a variety of reasons why people start a blog. Why people stop blogging even.

But...if this is something you want to keep at for a while....

Then really, you need to make your blog about YOU.

Because then you set your own expectations. You know what you're interested in. You know what you want to blog about.
Many blogs falter because people wonder "Who would want to read what I write?"
Or perhaps their blogs get super popular and they let stress and worry get the best of them, about what they think the reader's expectations of their blogs are.

And I have to say...
A blog doesn't falter if you're interested in what you're doing.
Sure, I started blogging because I hoped to become world famous and have hundreds of thousands of people read my blog every day. lol. Who doesn't think that?
But, that wasn't the motivating factor of me writing.
No. For me...that was my Great Grandma Maren.
Who thought my way of writing was great, and that I should work for a newspaper or something. lol
Instead I chose to blog. lol.
In any case.

Blogging.
I love to write. I love to muse. I love to just have a place to put my thoughts down. :)
So.
Why not put down thoughts about blogging? :) How to make a blog successful? Something like that.


1. Blog for you. If you don't like it. You won't keep posting.
2. Let your Blog Evolve. If something isn't working, change it. If you want to add in something, change it. Don't box yourself in.
3. Be consistent. If you want to post everyday that's great! If you decide you only want to do it once a week, once a month, every second and fourth Wednesday...stick with it. Readers only come when they know that the blog is consistent. If they don't know when you're going to post...they won't check out your blog that often.

It's not an easy thing to blog.
Trust me. lol. I know.

Because over the years, I've garnered myself four different blogs....
This one...has been the same. I call it my "Everyday Blog." Because I post whatever I want...everyday. lol you probably have noticed that some days have themes and others don't...because it's just one of those...blogs where I just do things to my fancy. lol.

Other blogs...
Less success.
I mean.
My secondthoughts2secondthoughts.blogspot.com blog....yeesh. My poor troubled problem blog. lol. It started out as a Comic Blog, focusing on Dating, then switched to writing down random story thoughts, to hardly being used at all...to now being a place to complain about work. lol.
Like I said...let your blog evolve. If it doesn't work...try different themes/topics etc until one sticks.

Others are middling. Like my kaputnous.blogspot.com blog.
It's a story blog. Where I write little stories.
And I'm definitely still working out the kinks.
Here is a blog where I got a bad case of "But what if no one reads it?!" as well as...I just struggle to write stories in general. lol. But hey, this place is a good place to practice isn't it? And it's still evolving as I work out the kinks....like how often I should post. :)

A blog I started because I wanted to have a place to post uplifting/interesting thoughts I found while reading the scriptures. And it quickly began to include General Conference talks as well. :)

Like I said...
Your blog can be about anything and/or everything.

My basic rule of thumb is....if it gets you excited...THEN DO IT!! Write about it! Gush and Obsess and have fun with your blog!
Don't worry about the viewers, the readers, the commenters.
If you're enjoying it then your blog isn't for nothing at all.
It's for you. :)

A Day In Review -October 6th

Wow...five days of long posts. Conferences and Days in Reviews. O.o Who would have thought I'd manage to get that all in a row... lol. Don't worry, its not a new habit, just how the cards fell this particular 5 day period. lol :)

Monday, October 6th 2008

- Had a long day at school today. Good news I'm basically done with my Plaster Cat (we had a block of plaster we had to carve into a shape, I chose a cat.) I just need to seal it. Brought home my clay cat (the model to base the plaster off of) because I didn't want it destroyed (and it looks a hundred times better than the plaster one.) I decided to ride the bus home today, it was 30 minutes late. For FHE we went to Scott's house (friend in the ward.) It's huge!! A mansion. And we went swimming. I didn't want to change into my swimsuit, I just jumped into the pool in my clothes. Now I'm heading down to Brad's (friend in the ward.) to watch Phantom of the Opera with them and Ali.

-Today was a typical school day. In V&D we hummed all class long. Philosophy n I chatted with Shawn about books and to Mike as Well. Biology had a quiz. Girl next to me annoyed me. ASL and History were normal. Oh! A girl I didn't know gave me a ride to school, she was from the same apt complex as me. But she was weird and dropped me off in the middle of the road....Weird. Luckily I wasn't hit. Road the bus home with Kristin and made tortellini. I emailed Mom my Christmas list. O.o So early to ask for that. I came home and did my "Ghost" thing again. 3 boys and 7 girls came!  (I would leave cryptic notes directing people to come get candy at my apt and wait in costume for them to come and give them candy.)

-Today was a pretty dull day compared to yesterday. (went to a dance and managed to impress the boy.) And right now I'm kind of frustrated because I wrote a story and I can't find it anywhere! Gah! Now I'm going to be bugged all night. To try and find it. Classes went well. Played the piano in Institute and LI and CI went as normal. Came home to make chili and read.

Thursday, October 6th 2011

- I've been blessed today. :) Yesterday I made the decision to take my Philosophy test today and pay the $3 fee. (you had 3 days to take the test but the third day you had to pay a fee to take the test.) Because I wasn't ready yesterday due to Institute committee meetings...well today, I almost got some bad news. I was waiting outside an advisor's office to see if I needed to Apply for Graduation yet -not til Feb- when the Philosophy class president walked by and asked if I'd taken the test yet. -He's in my class- I said no, and he said that the test needed to be done by 1pm today. And that was in like an hour! O.o But then he said that the teacher had extended the testing day until Friday and if I talk to the teacher I would be fine. So calm/panic. When I talked to the teacher I got calmed again because she would still let me take the test. I also found comfort because the President said that if I knew the terms I was good to go. That I shouldn't study anymore. I did a little more but stopped studying since I was giving myself a headache anyways and the guy said the test wasn't that hard. The real blessing however was that since the test was extended to tomorrow I didn't have to pay the fee to take it today!! YES!! The cost day was now Friday! So after classes I was blessed to be inspired to know what to write. Hopefully I didn't miss the mark too badly. @ hours later and I was done (8:15pm) I went to Institute and watched the end of The Other Side of Heaven movie that the service committee was doing and to see if I could find a ride home since it was dark and Kikay had the car at work. I ended up finding Beth and walked home with her to our apt complex.

Saturday, October 6th 2012

-I guess you could call today a historic day as in the Saturday Morning session of Conference, President Monson announced that the mission ages of boys and girls had been lowered to 18 & 19. So If the guy is worthy and has graduated High School....he can go on a mission! Crazy! My friends Jess and Tay are going to be considered 'old' now on the missions with the girls age lowering as well. It's going to be interesting to see if the social/dating scene changes with these age changes. After Conference Mother Dearest, Kikay and I had a girls night during the priesthood session where we went to Barnes and Noble to get books. After I hung out with Tay and saw the Bourne Legacy again in theatres because she hadn't seen it.

- >.< I had to work through all four sessions of conference and play catch up after they'd aired. :( Wasn't happy about that at all. I nearly lost a snake at work today, it climbed out of its tote when I wasn't looking, but I found it! Also found out that our Pet Trainer who's been covering shifts in our dept isn't supposed to handle anything but Fish and Crickets because she's not certified to handle the other animals. O.o Why....manager...why place an unqualified person in our department?! That made closing difficult as I left 2 hours before close...luckily Reth was there to help out. I dropped by Kikay's to watch Once Upon a Time and yah...that was basically it.

Monday, October 6th 2014

-I had an AM shift today. Not used to those anymore though its possible that I may be returning to more AM shifts. Why? Because one of my coworkers is pregnant and can't work with some of the animals (cats w/ litter. Guinea pigs w/ bedding. For health concerns etc.) Which means she can't be doing the morning shifts anymore. (where all the cleaning takes place.) So that means she'll either come in on later shifts, or the second person in will need to do the cats. Who knows. Work went well, thought he last half hour I totally hit a wall. (as in a got super tired.) The wall where I know I've been awake too long on too little sleep and I'm getting a headache and not feeling well. So I basically drove home and crashed. Spent the rest of the evening suffering from the headache that got worse if I moved about. So I ended up dozing and lying very still. Kikay randomly came over to give me Cookies and Crème chocolate. :D That was super sweet of her!

-This morning I switched things up at work by having my second opener do the Bedding Changes while I worked on opening the rest of the department. We got everything done by 11:30ish besides Crickets. Which took me a bit because I had to spend time counting to make sure that our shipment numbers were what they said they were. I dropped by Barnes and Noble after work and encountered a customer that usually frequents my work...had a chat with him for a bit. It lasted a bit long for me as I was anxious to check out a couple of books. Brandon Sanderson's newest book, and an unexpected book of Stephanie Meyer's Life and Death. Which is Twilight...but Gender Swapped. I couldn't resist the curiosity and bought it. I spent a couple hours reading it at home -after struggling to get into my apt as the complex finally changed out the locks. O.o So weird. I went to the Payson Temple with my roommate her fiancée and her home teacher to do baptisms for the dead. It was...good, though kinda tense for me because her Home Teacher's presence is a bit like nails on a chalkboard to me so it was hard to be at ease, but I loved doing the baptisms and it helped a lot. ^^ Came home and read more of the Life and Death book. :)

Elder D. Todd Christofferson

• Church safeguards and publishes God's revelations.
• The Church is the creation of Him in who our Spirituality is Centered.
• The Church is Simple in its Doctrine and Gospel. It can be taught in any culture on any continent and be understood.
• One can't fully achieve progression when you work in the Spirit of Isolation.
• Christ is the author and finisher of our faith.
• Join in Faith. Teach and Edify each other.
• We are all imperfect. We often test one another with our personal idiosyncrasies.
• Every single person is important in the Church.
• In the Church we are ALL on the SAME journey.
• Repentance is individual. But Fellowship on the path is for everyone.
• In the Beginning, the Church was the Family.
• If one believes there all roads lead to heaven then there is no need for ordinances or covenants.
• The Church is the Kingdom of God on the Earth.

• Save money each week. Doesn't matter how much. Be developed the habit. You will benefit from it.
• Ponderize a scripture each week.
• The Primary purpose of Ponderizing is the give your Thoughts an uplifting place to go.
• We can't accept the Status Quo when it is filled with darkness. We must Fight Back.
• Don't be deterred. Hard is Good.
• Please don't hesitate to include people of others faiths in your spiritual thoughts. They too are looking to be uplifted.

• You may not know why the Barrier is there, but it is for your benefit.

• Avoid the Dangers. Set a Course in your life that is Safe from Spiritual Predators and the Gates of Sin.
• Trust. Even if you don't understand why. Trust.
• We grow and gain the most when we put our Trust in the Lord and follow His way.

• It is not enough to just go through the motions. We're not making deposits. It's a plan of action.
• The path to happiness may lead you through pain and hardship. But in the end, it will be worth it. You'll be rewarded.

Sister Carole M. Stephens

• To be Safe: 1. Trust God 2. Trust Jesus 3. Trust Holy Ghost. 4. Trust His Prophets
• What must be done to convince us to remain fastened in our seats?
• If ye Love me, Keep my Commandments.
• We can choose to see Commandments as limitations. But they are actually a manifestation of his love and concern for our safety.
• There is a law upon which all blessings are predicated. If we obey we receive the blessings, even when mistakes happen.
• Love the Lord with all thy heart, soul, and mind. Love your neighbor the same.
• Pray to the Father and he can give you comfort, truth, because you ask, because you know Him.
• When you're filled with Doubt and Confusion, the Holy Ghost will be sent to help lead you back to safety.

• Sometimes Boys Dig Holes.
• We don't start our planning to get covered in mud, but sometimes we end up that way.
• Don't choose to remain dirty. Get yourself clean!
• Become clean, so we are not left outside our Father's house.
• Renew your Hope. Try one more Time. You are not Forgotten.
• The path is not easy. Things that are worth it in the end rarely are.
• On the day of judgement we can't hide in a group. We'll have no one else to blame but ourselves. But Christ is on our side.
• Remember in whom you have trusted. Have hope.

Elder Kim B. Clark

• Do not walk with Christ for just a single season, but always.
• The time you may live in is dangerous. But you can have eyes to see and ears to hear to know how things really are.
• Have Joy in the Lord Jesus Christ.
• Our time is a Dangerous time of Great Evil and Temptation. Go Rescue the Wounded. Stand in Courage. Build the Kingdom.
• We do not have to be perfect, but we need to be good and getting better.
• Life may get hard, confusing, painful, and discouraging. Through the Holy Ghost the light of the Gospel will cut through it all.
• The Lord Jesus Christ works in our lives.
• Why are you worried? I know you. I'll take care of you. Get yourself ready.

Koichi Aoyagi

• We are warned that disasters, wars, countless difficulties, but do not lose faith. Things happen for a reason.
• You may have to deal with physical and mental pain in your life, but it is for your growth and benefit in the end.
• Your problems will be resolved. If not in this life, in the next.
• All these things will give you experience and will be for your good. Go on your way for God is with you.
• The test of loving God, is not to see if we can endure difficulty, but if we can endure it well. Turn your heart to God.
• Love God. Have Faith in Him. Put your Trust in Him.

Elder David A. Bednar

• Isn't it wonderful? To have a head of the Church that is mature and isn't blown about by every change in the wind?
• When you cannot do what you've always done, then you only do what matters most.
• The limiting factors can become your greatest strengths. Or help you find your strengths when they weren't clear before.
• We can expect senior leaders and will be older and spiritually seasoned men.
• The mortal limitations of men affirms the divine influence that works through them.
• These men are not spared from affliction, but are blessed to press forward violently while suffering with/in affliction.
• The human shortcomings/imperfections are faith promoting.
• O Be Wise! What can I say more?
• Cast out negative feelings of spite, anger and revenge.
• If it is the truth, and I testify that it is. Then the work we are engaged in is the most important work.
• Come what may and Love it!
• Family is the center of life and the key to eternal happiness.
• Families begin in mortality can be together in the eternities.
• We came to mortal life precisely to grow from trials and testing. Actively come unto Christ. We can endure.

Saturday Morning Session

- Give your all in the Service of the Lord.

President Dieter of Uchtdorf

• Tell a man about the greatness of stars and he'll believe you. Tell him the paint is wet and a man will touch it to find out.
•  Find Truth you can Rely on. Not outlandish claims of Internet Lore. 
• When we chase after shadows we'll find things of little substance and value.
• Sometimes the truth may seem too obvious to consume.
• How do we know we're on the right path? Ask the right questions!
• Is my experience of the Church working for me? Is it bringing me closer to Christ? Is it blessing me and my family with peace and joy?
• Don't complicate the gospel! If a child can understand it, so can you.
• Avoid putting unnecessary burdens on our members. Devote time and Energy to Things that Truly Matter.
• Simplify!
• Step back, look at your approach to life, and simplify.
• Start where you are.
• God will take you as you are. You don't need to be more than you are to fulfill God's plan for you.

• We're on the old ship Zion. God is at the Helm and will stay there. He dictates, guides and directs. If the people will have confidence in their God, and never forsake our Covenants or God we will do well.
• The Church of Jesus Christ has always been led by living Prophets and Apostles. They are mortal and subject to human imperfection.
• We can't separate Christ from his Servants.
• Looking for human weakness in others is rather easy. It's a mistake to only notice that and not see God's Hand working through them.

• The world in which we live is similar to a potter's wheel and the speed is increasing. We must be centered in Jesus on the Wheel or else we'll be thrown off.
• Look at your life. Do you need to change something to become a happier person?
• Find your purpose! It should fill you with joy and happiness as you pursue it.
• Live after the manner of happiness. Be centered in Christ.

Sister Neill F. Marriott

• No matter your life experiences or your place of birth, you matter. You can change for the better.
• Have thine own way Lord.
• Thou art the potter I am the clay. Mold me and make me after thy will.
• It will all work out!
• No one ever really dies.
• It may not all work out NOW, but it will work out in the Lord's timing. Positive and Negative it all works out for our Good.

• The holy ghost gives personalized answers.
• The Holy Ghost doesn't tell us to improve everything at once. Or else we'd get discouraged. He helps us at our own speed.
• The Atonement is for Sinners, but it is also for Saints striving to become better.
• The spirit can show us our weaknesses, but can also show us our strengths.
• The holy ghost can lift and inspire us.
• Our direction is more important than our speed.

Elder Franscisco J. Vinas

• Joy in this life is not full but joy in Jesus Christ can be full.
• Abuse by those supposed to love us can leave painful marks to the soul.
• Peace be into thy soul. Thy adversity and thy afflictions shall be just a small moment.
• After much affliction comes the blessings
• We will never lose any blessing if we were never given the opportunity to do things to warrant them

• The storms of life my be unpredictable, but we do know they will come. Be prepared.
• Be temple worthy regardless of what befalls us.
• Be prepared and you won't fear.
• Have a righteous attitude and conduct in your daily life. Don't have a prideful attitude though.
• Self control is like a muscle. The more you use it the stronger it gets. The avoiding of temptation once, helps you to avoid further temptations in the future.
• The restored gospel gives us the blueprint we need to follow to help us avoid temptation and gain in Self Control.
• The Holy Ghost serves as cleansing agent when the gospel is first in our life. He also serves as a warning system to avoid temptations and dangers.

• How do you respond to Evil? You avoid it. LEAVE the Area and Don't Come Back.
• He will help you know if you need to Fight Flee or Go with the Flow.
• If you are there with the Lord he will be with you.
• Knowledge takes away darkness, fear, and doubt.
• The tract that leads to marriage by passes a little thing called Dating.
• None of us marry perfection, we marry potential.

• No love in mortality comes closer to approximating the love of Jesus Christ than the Love of a Mother for her Child.
• It's not only that they bear us, but they continue bearing with us.
• Motherhood is a sacred trust of the highest order.
• What mothers do is an essential element of Christ's work and love for us.
• Not every Maternal effort has a storybook ending ... at least not immediately.
• In any moment of temptation. May we behold our Mother and spare her the sorrow of our sinning.
• Don't let your faith reach a Crisis Level.

• We can't let society give our families a makeover in the world's view.

• There is a difference between hearing and understanding.
• Children are the largest group of investigators in the church.
• Teachers/Parents are miracle workers.
• Our children will learn when they're ready to learn. Not when we're ready to teach them.
• Its never too early or too late to teach your children.
• Always be in your children's corner.

Elder Hugo Montoya

• Once we reach the age of accountability. Trials and Adversity are Universal if different. But these burdens are not to be carried alone.
• Trust god to help you bear your burden. Trust others to help you bear your burdens. We have each other for a reason.
• Smile. Your day will get a little brighter if you do so.
• Smiling can help lift up others' spirits. You don't know who is watching you. Smile to lift them and you up in happiness.

• Don't let the darkness overwhelm you. Seek light.
• If you don't have enough light to keep the darkness away. Gather those who have better lights around you for support til you get your light brighter.
• Light, no matter how small, will always give us hope, even if you've been long in the darkness.
• No matter how intense the darkness of doubt, we choose how long and to what extent we allow it to influence us.
• In our lives. Help from the savior may take the form of a helping hand from a person we already know.
• Don't hang out with those who will tear you down instead of elevate you.
• Trust those you know, with experience, to help you. Not the stranger you barely know in real life and media.
• Doubt your doubts before you doubt your faith.
• We have not be left alone to be influenced by every change in the wind. We have access to the truth.
• Believe over Doubt.

Elder James B. Martino

• God Does Answer Our Prayers. But only when we have a Sincere Heart and Real Intent. Not just to get an Answer.
• We can go through the same experiences but come out of them with differing levels of Faith.
• The lack of spiritual habits can cause you to forget the times when the Lord has spoken to you, answered you, and helped you in your trials.
• Don't give up. Don't ever give up!
• Keep holding to the rod even as you have Questions. Don't let go. No matter what. Don't let go.
• The right Questions can lead to increased faith and understanding.

Elder Dallin H. Oaks

• Apart from death and sin. We have many other challenges as we struggle through mortality. The Savior can provide us the strength to over come them.
• The Savior knows our struggles, our heartaches, our temptations, our sufferings because he's experienced them all.
• Fear not. For I am with thee. Be not dismayed. For I am thy God, and will Still Give Thee Aid.
• Sometimes we're helped to endure our afflictions and infirmities instead of helped to end them.
• The Lord will deliver us out of all our Afflictions. Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot cure.
• Any affliction experienced in our life, whether physical, mental, emotional, addicting, etc. Can be overcome through Christ.
• God is mindful of every people. Whatsoever land they may be in.
• Seek him. Humble yourself. Ask for help. He will help lift you up.
• We trust in the Living God. The Savior of all men. Jesus Christ.

-More School today. Nothing really of note. Today is my cousin Justin's birthday. Yah...that's about it.

-Not feeling well at the moment. I have another headache. School was regular school. Except in V&D class was cancelled cus the teacher had to go to LA. Institute meeting was fun. Had a good time. Came home paid rent took a nap woke up to find the stinky smell of something burning. Kendra was cleaning the oven. Turned it off cus I thought she was crazy. She turned it back on and I had to deal with 4 hours of stinkiness. Probably one reason why my headache didn't go away.

-General Conference today. :) Took a shower this morning and again had troubles with my eyes. Talking later in the day to Daddoo he thinks my eyes are dry and that I need to eat more veggies and get eyedrops. Watched conference with Kikay and her friends Jon, Jimmy and Jenny. I spent conference drawing. After conference the others made breakfast. :) Eggs, bacon, and pancakes. Then we girls kicked the boys out and went dress shopping so I'd have something to wear to the Presidential Ball on Tuesday. I drove to the DI, it was so bright out I had a hard time keeping my eyes open. Which is scary when I'm driving. (My eyes were being really sensitive to light at this point. Where car head lights would blind me at light. Where regular sunlight would have me closing my eyes to avoid the pain of the brightness.) At the DI I found a dress that fits me like a glove. It's lavender and blue. Dropped by Ross -found sunglasses in the car and wore those, but didn't find any good shoes. Came back to the apt to watch the second session of Conference. After Kikay took Jenny home we went grocery shopping. Had chili for dinner.

-Woke up early to go with my family to the Conference Center in SLC to hear the song and the spoken word and to listen tot he morning session of General Conference. :) It was a good experience and I enjoyed being there. Elder Robert D. Hales spoke today. I haven't seen him in a year because he didn't speak at the April Conference. I didn't recognize him. He's been having some health issues...I don't know what, but he looks way different. A rounder ace, his lips looked pinched. He was wearing glasses that carried oxygen to his nose and he sat as he talked. My heart goes out to him. I pray that he may recover fully. It was mentioned that the other Apostles looked older, but I didn't notice it on them. For the second session of conference we piled onto Mom's bed and listened there watching the TV. Had diner and played with the cats. Then drove home to College Town and watched Thor and ate ice cream with Kikay.

Tuesday, October 2nd 2012

-It wasn't really fun to get up this morning at 4, but I did it. Went to work and cleaned out the bedding for the Hamsters today. :( One of the Syrians had died. Y_Y Maybe even last night when I was shutting down all the habitats. :( I found out also that working a 6 hour shift means that I also get a lunch break. Tha twas annoying to have to take today as Kellen and Jos were not familiar with the reptiles as I am. But other things came up because they hadn't been done yet. Did those and by then my shift had ended. Dropped by home to change clothes and talk with mother dearest on the phone before going to Brother K's class. I played the piano before moving the car to a better spot (for Kikay) and walked home. I did laundry and took a shower and a nap before going to the Relief Society Pumpkin Carving activity. I didn't carve right away as I was waiting for Kah to show up as we had a roommate pumpkin. One per apartment. We carved a mustached face. We went to the In and Out afterwards for food before coming home and watching Tangled. I briefly talked to my Daddoo as well.

Wednesday, October 2nd 2013

-Today was the day. The day Meralto went into the MTC. :( But to go back a step. Ashleigh set off the fire alarm once more this morning taking a shower. I was already awake reading conference talks but it was a good wake up call. I met my family at the Village Inn for breakfast. Our last family meal together before we took Meralto to the MTC. It was a good gathering, we dropped by Deseret Book to kill some time after breakfast and Kikay and I brought brother some tie clips before Kikay left to get to her 11:30 class. I also gave Meralto a rock as a worry stone that had been in my room and a bouncy ball I'd kind of felt inspired to give. It surprised me how much he liked the pink bouncy ball lol. I expected him to give me a look of "seriously?" but no, he really appreciated it. I told him it was for when his companion got sick. That way he'd have something to do. I'm sure he'll find other uses for it too lol. After Kikay left, the rest of the family killed some more time at the Provo Temple grounds where we said our last good bye before driving down the road to the MTC. There, a bunch of happy smiling missionaries stood waiting to guide the newly arrived into the building. He got Meralto's luggage out of the car and I gave him one more hug goodbye and then he was off on his adventure. It was a happy sad moment. I'm going to miss him. The parents dropped me back off at my car before they headed back up to HomeTown. Mother Dearest only got emotional once she slowed downa t home and realized that tow years was a long time. I think she's feeling the emptier house since its just her and Daddoo home now. Empty Nesters. I'm trying to not think too much about it otherwise I get teary eyed. I came home took a nap to get my muscles relaxed again before catching up on Castle and Shield. I didn't do much else today. IT was a sit type of day to be more reflective I suppose. I hope Meralto is already having a blast on his first day at the MTC and that he's already fitting in and having fun with his MTC companion.

-Work came around too early this morning. I'm no longer use to the 7 am shifts as I hardly get them anymore. But I managed to get up and get to work. We didn't have any cats so I was able to go straight into bedding changes. Made easier because I actually had a second opener today. Kaylee came in an hour later and together we were able to get the dept open by 9, besides fish and crickets. It was weird, its been so long since we've been that "ahead" on things. Our new hamsters and birds came in as well as Reptiles and Bugs. But all at a good space apart that I didn't have to rush between one or the other. Work went well, with the exception that I didn't end up getting off work until 2pm when I should have been off half an hour earlier. That was because Sirch was a bit late. Poor manager. He had a bit of an emotional breakdown between his classes and his work shift. :( I wisht here was more I could do to comfort him/help him out. In any case. I went grocery shopping and spent $100 exactly. And dropped by work to place a bag of Starbursts there for Sirch to find...which he did a couple of hours later. lol. Hopefully it was a pick me up for him. I came home and grabbed the loaf of bread I left at Kikay's yesterday...giving her a $5 movie that I picked up while shopping. -Guardians of Gahool. Because I knew she liked it. I even managed to find my checkbook!! It was under my bed. So I was able to pay rent. :D Yay! I put away my groceries and took a nap. Talked with Fern for a bit, took a shower, mae tacos, which I offered to share with the others before putting it away.

-I was the first one into work this morning, and got most of the department open before my second opener came in. She's usually on closing shifts and hasn't opened before. So I did a bit of training with her to show her how to open the department, leaving her to open up the reptiles. I ended up getting stuck on register for the first hour we were opened due to the managers being on cashier duty, but needing to receive our truck they couldn't be in the front of the store and the back of the store at the same time. So I hung out on register. Once I finally got off of it, I showed my coworker how to receive in the fish and she discovered why I love changing out the betta water. Because I love seeing the colors of the fish revealed. She found it to be rather calming and tranquil. After work, I hung out for a bit at work to meet up with my Amazing Roommate to pick out a new Betta fish, because the last one I got didn't last that long. :( After we picked out a nice black betta, Amazing Roommate took the fish home. I went to Best Buy to buy an $80 antenna so I could get Local Channels to watch General Conference. (and Age of Ultron!!)  I dropped by Hobby Lobby to get a foam board to glue a puzzle to. Then dropped by Walmart to get ingredients for Made from Scratch Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies. I came home and had a bite to eat before going straight into making cookies. I got three cookie sheets cooked before I hurried to work to give some cookies to the manager on duty there as he won't be there tomorrow when I plan to take more cookies for the people there before General Conference. I came home and had some Zupas with the Amazing Roommate. Tried to get the antenna to work and got the same stupid four channels that I have no use for. So. Utterly. Disappointing. So I returned to Best Buy to return the antenna since it's useless to me. And then sat in my car for an hour outside the store to defume from the disappointment. Apparently the dark hole I find myself in can only get local channels with an outdoor antenna which the complex doesn't allow for 'aesthetic' reasons. I dropped by Arctic Circle to get me and a roommate RootBeer Freezes. Came home to continue finishing cookies and watching Emperor's New Groove and the new Cinderella.

There is a Man

Years ago, when my brothers and I were boys, our mother had radical cancer surgery.

She came very close to death.

Much of the tissue in her neck and shoulder had to be removed, and for a long time it was very painful for her to use her right arm.

One morning about a year after the surgery, my father took Mother to an appliance store and asked the manager to show her how to use a machine he had for ironing clothes.

The machine was called an Ironite.

It was operated from a chair by pressing pedals with one's knees to lower a padded roller against a heated metal surface and turn the roller, feeding in shirts, pans, dresses, and other articles.

You can see that this would make ironing (of which there was a great deal in our family of five boys) much easier, especially for a woman with limited use of her arm.

Mother was shocked when Dad told the manager they would buy the machine and then paid cash for it.

Despite  my father's good income as a veterinarian, Mother's surgery and medications had left them in a difficult financial situation.

One the way home, my mother was upset: "How can we afford it?
Where did the money come from?
How will we get along now?"
Finally Dad told her that he had gone without lunches for nearly a year to save enough money.
"Now when you iron," he said, "you won't have to stop and go into the bedroom and cry until the pain in your arm stops."
She didn't know he knew about that.
I was not aware of my father's sacrifice and act of love for my mother at the time, but now that I know, I say to myself, "There is a man."
