The True Feelings

I had a small existential crisis today at work.

Why?
Because the Manager asked me "How are you?"

But like it wasn't the typical "Hey, how are you?" where you are expecting to receive the typical "Good" or "Fine" response.

No the manager was giving me the look, like the look into your soul kinda look of a "Really, How Are You?"

As in they really wanted to know the true answer to their question and not just the expected one.

Which I was like. O.o Huh?
Because...How am I? How am I?!?!?

lol like I could tell that the manager was wanting a more honest answer...but it's like....I never get asked How I'm doing in such an honest way.

So I was like.  "With....work?" Because honestly, if I'm at work I expect questions from managers to revolve around work things.
So my first thought of "How Are You?" was that they meant "How are you doing with opening, how is work going? Are you on top of things? Can I assign you another task or do you need to finish what you're doing still?"

But no.
The manager was like "No. You. How are You doing. How are things going in your life?"

Which....like....O.o
I mean....I'm not always the most open about how I'm actually feeling.
I tend to keep my emotions and such to myself.

Though I have been trying to be better at being more...honest with how I am.
Like letting people know when I'm suffering from a migraine and such.

But still. It's hard to be completely truthful.
I mean at work there's kinda the expectation that you're 'happy and cheerful' because customers want to see happy cheerful and not deal with angry dour. lol.
But also I kinda take on the role of happy cheerful in the store (when I migraine isn't draining my energy reserves) Because like....someone has to be the positive force in the workplace lol. No need for everyone to be in a bad mood.

In any case.
The "How are you Really" question....it's not the easiest to answer.
But I went for basically truthful. "I've had a headache the past four days, mostly from stress."
Which lead into a discussion on how work is being stressful (because the managers freak out everytime we have our DM visit and I'm tired of the constant state of panic since the DM comes EVERY SINGLE MONTH. We need to stop the freak out) and how home life is semi stressful with roomies being stressed out and....yah.....

Which basically was kinda interesting to talk like...non work or animal related things with my manager.
Kinda weird.
But in a good way.

And honestly, talking a little bit helped me with some of the tension I was feeling today. So that I was actually able to relax and gain a little bit of energy back from just...letting out some of my thoughts and feelings that I usually keep quiet about.

^^;;

Oh. And as an update on yesterday's post: Cop came to talk to the customer...customer refused to budge on their stance that they bought the products and were trying to return them....
But according to head manager, the customer kept changing their story? Like they bought the products in the next valley over...no, someone purchased them up there, and customer lives up there too...but like they wanted to return the products to the store that they were purchased from and so made the hour drive down to us....?
The cop was actually surprised that the customer didn't just fess up to the products more than likely being stolen and leave when he showed up.
Because usually the threat of calling the cops chases most scammers away.
Not this customer.
So the end result was that the customer ended up leaving the store with the products that they had 'purchased' (about $100 worth) even though they claimed they'd bought them six months ago and one of those products -a specific type of flexileash -we only started selling 4 months ago and records indicate we haven't sold one yet....

*shakes head*
But yah, that was the end result of that exchange.

I'll be watching the leaves.

An Odd Situation

I found it odd when I heard one of our managers -who was cashiering at the time- call up our Head Manager to help out with a customer return over the radio.

But I didn't think much more about it.
I kinda figured that it was more than likely that the cashier needed help looking up a receipt or something.
As the usual reason of "we need a manager to approve returning this amount of money to you before we can give you the money" shouldn't have been applicable considering the cashier was a manager...

In any case.
A few minutes later the cashier commented that they were getting a headache because of the cigarette smoke coming off of the customer -after the customer had stepped away-
To which I commented to sympathize, as I too can get headaches if I'm confronted with a scent that doesn't agree with my senses.

And then the Head Manager commented stating simply: "Funny that this Harness doesn't smell of cigarette smoke."

Which....basically the missing clue to the puzzle.
A customer return. A Head Manager Needed. A Harness not smelling of smoke even though the customer did....

....This was possibly a customer trying to scam us. Claiming that they had bought the items when they'd really stolen them and were just trying to get money out of us.

And for all appearances.
That's exactly what seems to have happened....though I'm not positive as my shift ended before the issue was fully resolved.

But the cashiering manager -who was freed from being cashier when our next scheduled cashier showed up.
Dropped by my department so I was able to ask a bit more details about the situation as I could still see Head Manager talking off and on with the customer.

And apparently the story goes as follow.
Customer claims that they'd been in the hospital for the past six months, so they've been unable to come into the store before now because they haven't been able to. And apparently somewhere in those six months the customer also claimed that they were delusional for 2 months and didn't know what in the world they were doing and all the customer wanted was to return some items they'd bought so that hey could get the money for it.

However...the products that the customer was trying to return?
High priced items. An Expensive Harness and Leash and a couple other unspecified items.

But....the main issue was....
The customer didn't have a receipt.

Which makes it difficult to return items....especially when they're like 4 months over our guaranteed return policy. *shakes head*

But we try to help out where we can. Be sympathetic and such.
So Head Manager headed back to try and look up the receipt on our computer.
Didn't find anything.
And so to try and narrow it down, looked up when we had last sold the items in question...
And discovered that the products the customer claimed that they had bought 6 months ago....
We hadn't even been selling 6 months ago.
They were newer products.
Therefore....the story wasn't matching up.

So we couldn't help the customer....
They ended up storming out of the store.....
But didn't leave.

They stood outside the doors apparently, smoking another cigarette, and well...acting suspicious enough and possibly threatening enough with their actions outside the store....

That the Head Manager ended up calling the cops to come over and talk to the customer.
You know....to ensure that things would end peacefully.

Like I said....
I left before I could see the full resolution to the story.

All I know is that as I was walking out the door I could see the Manager, Customer, and an Officer talking inside the store....
But what came out of it...I'll have to try and find out tomorrow. ^^;;

Still...kinda crazy.... we don't usually call the cops....I mean I see them in the store from time to time, but usually for their own reasons, not because we called them to come to us....

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

What Went Wrong?

You know the stages of grief??

Pretty sure I've gone through the writer's version of that today.
More specifically, the fanfic writer's version of it today.

*shakes head*

So on Friday I ended up getting a semi-writing prompt.
I say Semi because like...I could have just answered the question/statement asked to me and been like "Oh cool, I never thought of that."
But like...I like a challenge every now and then.
and if someone's sent me in a prompt.
It gives me motivation to write that particular thing quicker.
So instead of spending weeks on a story.
I spend like half a day working on a short story thing.

And like...it's a mostly win win situation.
Because a) I write and post something (yay)
And b) the asker gets a story in return for sending me their concept. (yay)

I mean...the 'losing' part of that situation is that if I get in a writing prompt....
Then like all my other projects suddenly get side tracked and tabled for who knows how long.
*exhales*
I have waaaaaayyyy too many half written fics in my docs currently.
I really need to have a Goal to get those all written and posted at the end of the year.
Ha. We'll see. ;)

In any case.
I got this story idea on Friday.
And spent like all day working on it.
And loved the concept I was building, the background of the story I was imagining, and just...having fun. Anticipating how all my followers would react to reading this story as it wasn't quite along the same vein as the others I'd posted.

However...
I didn't get the idea done Friday. *exhales*
Which...it was fine...I had all day Saturday to do so.
Only....a stupid migraine struck and you know...writing is seriously difficult when you're under attack with one of those.
When the migraine struck again on Sunday though I was like "No! My prompter needs an answer! I want to finish this!!!"

And that's what I did.
I spent the day, working through that headache finishing that fic and got it ready and posted it last night!!

And then I sat.
Anticipating.
Eagerly waiting to see what people's reactions would be to this story.

And you know what I got?

Basically crickets chirping.

Okay....maybe people are busy. It was a Sunday night...people have plans on Sunday nights right? I've had a slow start before. But by the morning, people will have responded to the story and I would get all the feedback I needed.

Only....
This morning?
I woke up.
To no feedback.

People have the option of liking or reblogging my fics....and usually I get a lot of likes and many reblogs.
But this morning?
Barely 10.

Which was... well it's crazy.

I haven't had such a slow response to a fic since I first ventured into that particular fandom.

The last three or four fics I've written....have basically skyrocketed. Where I could get 100 notes in like three or four hours.

So to have just 10 notes.....for one of MY fics?

Yah. It was weird.
It's still weird.
Why is this fic not getting attention?
Is it that my notification system isn't working correctly so the people I usually notify when I post...weren't notified?
Is it the type of story itself? Do people not actually like the particular genre I chose for this fic?
Are people just busy? Is it finals week? Is it spring break and everyone's gone? I don't know.
*shakes head*
Or is it......did I write a bad story? Is it so awful that people don't want to read it? Don't like it?

It's unsettling really.
Like logically I know that it's not the last one. My writing can't have tanked between one fic and the next.
I mean I showed a friend the story before I posted it and they absolutely loved it!
And I loved it!

So why is it not gaining attention?!?!

*exhales* I have no idea.
I really don't.

But like the fact that I've gotten little feedback on it....
Has left me doubting myself.

And it's here where I've been going through like the "Fic stages of Grief" or whatever.

Excitement. Anticipation that this story is going to be as popular as the last ones. Unable to wait to see what people think of it.
Confusion when nothing happens.
Disbelief when nothing continues to happen.
Doubt and Despair. Wondering if I am actually as great as a writer as I thought I was. Wondering if I'd just set myself up to fail.
Then there's the thought of :WELL FINE. I Won't WRITE EVER AGAIN!! I'm horrible!! AHHHHHH
Which moves to :I won't write for this Fandom Ever again! I'm going back to my old one if you won't appreciate me!

Which was kinda my mindset when I went to bed last night. lol.
But today it moved onto better perspectives.
Understanding. Okay. Maybe this story wasn't for everyone. It's going to have to fade into obscurity.
Determination. The determination to ensure that the next story I write for the fandom is a good one. That I'll write another one and that story will be just as popular as previous ones to my last one.

and probably acceptance somewhere in there too lol.

But basically I moved from the stages of "I'm never ever writing again. To I'll write somewhere else, to Okay yah I'm writing again!"
I moved from the stages of "I wrote the story all wrong! To Okay it didn't do well but that just means this genre isn't really popular in the fandom. My next story will be great"

*exhales*
In any case.
It's still off putting that this story hasn't done well.

But like...there's nothing more I can do.
I double checked my tagging system, altered the summary to better explain the type of story, and yah....did what I could to ensure people would see me....
But like if people don't want to read the story...
There's not much I can do about it.

Just get back to work.
Write.
And hope that the next one does better. ^^;;

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

A Blessed Sister

I love my sister.
Seriously she's the best.

Yesterday was...well a badish day for me.
Due to a Migraine catching me off guard with a huge spike in the middle of a customer rush at work....
I was physically drained.
Basically in tears really.
So. Very. Glad. to just get in my car and drive my fastest to come home.
Where I basically walked in the door and straight to the shower to beat the migraine out of my head with the pounding water.

Which, Kikay knows that my migraines are bad when I don't make the effort to say Hi to her when I get home.
She knows they're doubly bad if I take a shower basically as soon as I get home.

Now earlier, while my headache had not yet spiked, I'd texted her asking if we had any eggs.
Because I was figuring that I might be low on Iron or some other protein and that was why I was getting the said headache. So if I could get some meat....but like I hadn't thought much further on it when she said that we were almost out of eggs. I didn't necessarily need eggs. I could always stop by my favorite Wendy's once I got off work and grab a hamburger. It would do basically the same thing right?

Only, my headache quadrupled in the pain scale by the time I was finally free to leave.
So I scratched my plan to detour to get a hamburger, opting instead to come right home where I wouldn't have to socialize with people.

But I still needed food.
As I needed to get something with substance to fill my grumbling stomach.
But as low energy as I was....
I didn't know what I could make that would be 'quick' enough that I would be able to withstand the headache long enough to make it.

I figured possibly some toast with butter and jam would suffice. Two or three minutes tops. Easy.
So as I trudged up the stairs, wrapped in a blanket, heatpacks in hand to warm up,
My sister greeted me.

With an Egg Sandwich. Freshly made.

She'd noticed me come straight home and to the shower.
Remembered that I'd asked her about eggs earlier in the day.
And decided to make me an egg sandwich to help me out.

And ah.
It tasted amazing.
Lol Kikay was surprised at how quickly I wolfed that sandwich down.
So good
And definitely something I needed at that moment.

So grateful for my amazing sister.
Who continued to help me as much as she could into today, giving me a massage when my tense muscles once more triggered a headache.

Seriously. I'm blessed. ^^

I'll be watching the leaves.

Okay, Who Messed with the Timeline?

I feel like I just experience a moment where someone altered the timeline and I was the only one who remembered the old one.
*exhales*

So.
For the entire week, I was thinking that today I would get off work at 4pm.
I remember this in particular because I noted that it was a weird shift for me.
8am-4pm.
It's a weird time. As usually it would be more like an 8am-430pm or a 730am-4pm sort of deal to get an 8 hour shift (plus a half hour lunch)
So the fact that when I looked at my schedule on my phone and saw the time was  8-4. It stuck out to me.
Because it was weird.

I even remember checking last night to double check what time my shift started -because it's uncommon to start at 8am. Usually my shifts start at the #:30 mark.

And I swear. The time still said that my shift ended at 4pm.

I got into work this morning and double checked the schedule.
Because I like to know when people come into work and when to plan to take breaks and to see who is covering me.

And I swear.
The schedule in the clock in room said that I would be off at 4.
I remember because I had no one scheduled to come into the department until 5.
Which would leave my manager alone in the department to cover it for an hour.
And I thought that was silly scheduling.

So yah.
I swear.
I was off at 4pm today.

But at 4pm I was like "Hey guys, I'm off can someone come cover me?"
And my manager was like "No you're off at 4:30"
And I was like "No my schedule said 4!"
And another manager was like "Nope it says here that it's 4:30"
To which I was like "Ha ha nice joke, but I'm off at 4"

Only....
When I pulled up my phone to see it.

o.o
the time showed me getting off at 4:30.

*blinks*
Huh? That wasn't right!! I swear it was 4pm!!!

So I went to check the hard copy of the schedule in the clock in room.
And that copy said 4:30 as well!!!

WHAT?!?!?!!?

I swear.
It was a 4pm shift.
i was supposed to be off at 4!!

But suddenly I was off at 4:30

And I'm left so confused.

Like did I see 4:30 but read it as 4:00 instead?
But like...I was off at 4.....

>.>
*exhales*

So apparently someone messed with the timeline and altered things so I was suddenly off half an hour later than I was originally supposed to be off.

Which to be honest.
Sucked.
Why?
Because it was crazy busy at 4pm and all I wanted to do was go home.
Because I was suffering from an onset nuclear headache that had just spiked from "bad" to "Nuclear" to the point where I was practically in tears from the pain stabbing in my skull.

And I was desperate to get away from the people to go lie down to just be off work.

But here I was.
Stuck.
For another half hour.

My manager was like "If it gets slow i can totally let you leave early though"
Because the managers know that I know my schedule (and often everyone else's schedule) better than everyone else.
(and maybe they were part of the conspiracy to change the time. It is possible.)

HA.
But guess what
Everyone and their mom and the entire state seemed to want to come into my store between 4 and 4:30
Everyone needing help
Everyone wanting fish.
So me getting out early?
Ha.
Nope didn't happen.
But at least I did manage to break away on time so I clocked out at 4:31 to freedom
So i could go home and basically curl up in bed and die.

So to whoever messed with the timeline and changed me from getting off at 4pm to 4:30pm....

I don't. Like. You.
Because that was pure torture to work through a Nuclear Spike with Needy Customers who kept requesting more and more fish for me to catch.

Pure.
Evil.

I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Overcoming Attitude

While serving as a mission president it was my great privilege and responsibility to interview every missionary as he began his mission.
That was always a great experience, but it sometimes gave me insights into the backgrounds of my missionaries that shocked me.
One elder told me of his growing up in a small farming community as the son of the town drunkard.
When, as a newly called missionary, he boarded the bus to come to Salt Lake City to enter the mission home, his father was there to bid him farewell.
He must have been drunk, for his last words to his son were, "Son, you will never amount to a hill of beans."

As I talked with my missionary, I could sense that he had heard that phrase over and over again throughout his young life: "You will never amount to a hill of beans."
And that choice young man, called by the Lord to be his representative, believed it.
I resolved to prove that father wrong by seeing that the missionary had a successful mission.
I assigned him to a great first companion and watched his progress with keen interest and daily prayers.
And progress he did.

As my release date approached, I made a final tour of the mission to say good-bye to my beloved fellow workers.
B this time the young man was a zone leader, a very important calling in the mission field.
He conducted that zone conference like a veteran bishop.
I saw the deep bond of love that had developed between him and his missionaries.
I thought of the scores of converts who had joined the Church through his devoted service and the power of his testimony.
At an appropriate moment in the conference I stood beside him with my arm around him and said, with a lump in my throat, "You wouldn't believe this, but someone once said of this young man that he would never amount to a hill of beans."
He turned and looked me in the eye and responded, "We sure showed him, didn't we, President?"

Helping Customers

I was first made aware of the father/daughter duo when my coworker over the radio told me that they were sending a customer my way so that the customer could exchange out a fish.
So I head over to the fish wall and I see a young girl, probably around 10 years old, coming to me, carefully carrying a fish bowl full of water.
And inside that bowl?
Was a large pleco.

The girl was wanting to exchange out the pleco because she'd bought him and realized....that it wasn't the fish that she actually had wanted, and so wanted to exchange it out.

The problem though...was that she didn't have the receipt on her---because whoever was on the phone with her told her she didn't need to bring it, that we could look it up.
*exhales*
I mean technically yes we can do that.
but like the involves me having to track down one of our Ipads from the stronghold of the Groomers in order to access the app that will allow me to input the customer's phone number so I can look up their receipts that way.

Seriously...it's just faster if people bring us the paper receipt.
*shakes head*
In any case.
After tracking down the Ipad and imputing the number....
I got no result.
Which happens on occasion...sometimes the Ipad won't bring up the receipts.
Which meant I then had to go wander over to our registers to try and look up the receipt there.
(While if they'd been on paper I could have been done marking the thing and catching new fish ten minutes earlier)
And surprise surprise
The receipt did show up there.
But it also showed that the customers had bought the fish from Our Sister Store.
....which is why it didn't show up on our Ipad because the Ipad makes us input our store number. And each store has a different store number. So like ours could be number 239 and our Sister store's number could be like 398 or something.
So if you don't know another store's number...you can't look up receipts from that store.
But lucky for the customer, the registers can look up receipts from multiple locations. Yay.

So I was able to find their receipt and reprint it out so I could mark it so that they customer, when they went back to the register, could show it to the cashier so that they could do the proper exchange of fish and such.

*exhales*
Seriously would have been much quicker if the customer had bought the receipt in the first place.

In any case.
Despite the slight annoyance of tracking down that receipt.
It was actually quite fun to talk with the father/daughter duo.
She was working on setting up like her first aquarium, which lucky kid, she had a 75 gallon tank. ^^;;
I love it when people get the larger tanks.
It makes it much more easier to help them out with their fish related questions because oftentimes with larger tanks the rules of fish can blur a bit more.

So I spent a good idk twenty or thirty minutes helping the duo figure out what fish they wanted, telling them info on types of fish, indicating which ones would play well together in the larger tank and which fish would still be jerks to each other.

And it was just...fun really.
To share my knowledge, to see the excitement in both the father and daughter's faces.
The fact that they were listening to my advice and being soo...complimentary also helped too. lol.
Like I just really liked helping them out and they seemed to really appreciate the fact that I was doing my best to teach them how to take care of their tank and giving them tips and helping them decide on fish and such.
Because like...I'm fish obsessed. XD lol.
They were really grateful for all the information and such. To the point where they were like "Your sister store is right by where we live, but we totally are coming here from now on because they just gave us fish there, here you've taught us so much!"

And that just made me really happy. ^^;; Because despite what I say...I do like sharing information. Teaching. Sharing my knowledge.
So the fact that this duo really appreciated the help and the information.
Was rather heartwarming lol.

Hopefully they continue to have good experiences when they come back to my store. ^^;;
In the meantime. Hopefully their new fish do well and are happy in their brand new tank. ^^

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!
