Girls?

There are days where I really do wonder what goes on when I'm not at the store.
Because some of the things that occur while I'm gone and I'm like O_o how did that even happen?

So I came in this morning to a note on the board stating that a customer noticed that two of our mice were females instead of males.
-We're only supposed to have males in the store to prevent breeding from happening.
And that one of those females was pregnant and that my coworkers ended up adopting both mice out to the customer who had noticed.

I was like. O_o Confused.
Because like I'm pretty certain all the mice we got in were all Boys.

I mean it does happen on occasion that we accidentally get in females instead of males.
But it's rare. Like only has happened maybe three times in seven years?
So yah.
Rare.

And I couldn't understand how we would have them be females when both mice had been in the store for a long time. At least two months if not longer.
And the 'pregnant' one had been by herself for at least a month....
So yah. idk.

But the manager on duty was smart and took the mice over to the vet to confirm it.
And they did confirm that both were females.

*shakes head*

I know at least one of those mice was a customer return so it's possible that the customers who returned it pulled a switcharoo and gave us back females instead of males as that's happened a handful of times before.

Because considering that I look at all the animals that come in.....
*exhales*
It's hard to know though.
I was gone one of those shipment days on vacation so the female mice could have come in then.
Or else I was expecting males and therefore thought i saw that they were males...

Who knows.
But yah it was a rather stressful situation where I had to go confirm that the rest of the mice we have in the store were males as my coworkers hadn't had time to double check and yah...they're all boys.

*exhales*
Yaaaay early morning stress.

Not So Lazy Day

You gotta love those days where your plans totally get waylaid and pushed off because unexpected things came up.

That's how today went.

Since it was my day off, I wanted to just sleep in and spend the day writing and relaxing.

Though I knew I would be seeing Daddoo for at least a little bit sometime in the morning because he wanted to come down and put stuff in a package that will be mailed out to my godparents and such.

But in the early am he texted asking if we could go shopping as well.

So I ended up pushing back my plans to just spend the day writing so I could spend a couple of hours with Daddoo shopping around to get things he wanted to get them.

And like the morning would have been gone but that left the rest of the day to write...right?

Lol but no, as soon as Daddoo confirmed that he wanted to do a bit of shopping as well, Kikay also texted me asking if I could help her out in looking at wedding dresses.

So I spent like the hour before Daddoo showed up at my door looking at various wedding stores nearby to see if we could set up an appointment for the afternoon to go try on dresses so Kikay could get an idea of the type and style of dress she would want to get.

Which it's so weird. So weird to have your sister trying on wedding dresses.
But it was such a fun awesome experience and I'm glad I was able to go and help her out and help her figure out what she liked and didn't like and be just like a voice of reason among all the various choices.

We ended up grabbing both lunch and dinner and were going from store to store until long after the sun had gone down.

Lol It was a busy day.
far more active than I thought it would haven been otherwise.

So active that by the time I got home I was totally drained energy wise.
So I ended up not writing tonight...even though that had been my plan had been to do that today.

But I suppose my time was used slightly better in helping out my family members. :)

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Up For Adoption

Occasionally we have animals that come into the store that end up being unable to be sold under normal circumstances.
Like they're missing a limb, or have a health issue, or end up getting to their adult size and we don't have big enough cages for them. So yah...

We end up adopting out those animals to people who can give them a good home and are willing to take on a pet that isn't 'perfect.'

So currently we have this Fancy Bear Syrian Hamster that's looking for a home.

Overall he came in fine...
But then like within the week he started acting like he had wet tail.
So we isolated him to observe him and treat him....

Only to come in one day to find he couldn't move his back legs at all.
Somehow the poor hamster had ended up partially paralyzed.
Which sucks because it happened like right over Thanksgiving so of course the vet was closed at that time.
But we got him in as soon as we could to be looked at and see if there was anything that could be done for him to help with his back legs.

As the little dude has been pretty chipper otherwise. Eating and drinking and building nests just fine.
He just can't use his back legs.

Bad news was that the Vet said that they had no idea what to do. But that otherwise he was fine to be adopted out.
Though they cautioned that the hamster should be adopted out to an experienced pet owner who knows how to handle hamsters. And probably to home that doesn't have kids as this hamster would be considered a special needs pet and shouldn't be overly handled.

So yah.
We have a hamster looking for a home.
Hopefully he finds one. *fingers crossed*

Chinchilla Drama

It seems to be a week of Chinchilla related shenanigans and chaos.

You know how I mentioned that we had 2 chinchillas returned within 24 hours and I'm expecting to get in 2 more tomorrow?

Well.
I came into work this morning and when I went into our back room where one chinchilla has been isolated -and is supposed to go out onto the floor tomorrow-

I walked in to discover that the cage was empty.

And it looked like someone may have started to take apart the cage.
But like the chart for the chinchilla was still there.
And there was no reason why the chinchilla wouldn't be there because he was healthy...so it's not like he died.
And with the other chinchilla still on the floor...unless we sold the one on the floor and moved the one in the back on the floor....I should still have two chinchillas in the store.

A check of our inventory showed we still had two.

And a check of the chart showed the chinchilla was still there last night.

Which meant....he still had to be in the room.

But I'd already looked in the room. Under everything, in the cage....

Turns out the Chinchilla had gotten behind a different tote holding a guinea pig in the back.
You wouldn't have seen him until you pulled the cage out.

Thankfully I found him.

So yah. The chinchilla in Iso tried to escape.
Bit me too silly thing.

But the one on the floor also caused it's own drama.

As I had a customer approach saying that they thought the chinchilla on the floor was dead.

Which was....an interesting observation to make since the chinchilla had been fine earlier.

The customer was like "Or it could be sleeping really deeply."

I was going to go with that option.

But to humor the customer I went over to the cage.
And jiggled the lock.
The chinchilla twitched and opened it's eyes.

So I was like "Yep he's alive."

The customer was amazed at that. "Oh he's awake!"

Yah the chinchilla was hiding in a half log, so you couldn't really see it breathing. But he was awake and fine.
Though apparently the customer assumed that tapping on the glass would wake him up.
After spending 12 hours a day on display for customers...pretty sure the chinchilla would stop reacting to tapping on the glass.

In any case as I was talking to that customer another older customer came up asking the same question. "Is it dead?!"

No.
I'm not sure if the two customers conversed with each other or if they were two separate incidents.

But to prove for certainty that the chinchilla was alive I actually opened up the cage and lifted up the house and gave him a nudge. For which he responded by bounding away.

To the gasps of the customers.
*shakes head*

Ah well.

At least I managed to establish that the chinchilla was indeed alive.

Now we'll get to see what drama unfolds tomorrow with the potential of having 4 chinchillas all in the same cage.

I'll be watching the leaves.

All the Animals

It's that time of year where we end up having to play musical chairs with the animals in the store.
Though honestly, I expected this to happen a couple of weeks ago before Black Friday hit.
But it seems like the increase in animals waited until the first week of December to hit.

Which makes sense because we didn't sell many animals on Black Friday, but I can expect there to be a ton of people coming into the store seeking to buy pets for their kids for christmas.

In any case.
It's the time of year where we start getting in double if not triple or sometimes quadruple the amounts of small pets (hamsters, guinea pigs) than we normally do the rest of the year.

Which, if we don't sell a ton of animals....leaves me scrambling to find room for all the new animals coming in.

Which was the case today.
Because yesterday the invoice that shows us what animals are coming in hadn't yet appeared....I had to wait until today to see that....we were getting like 15 guinea pigs and 9 of this and 6 of that and 6 of some other rodent.

And like...I had four cages available...and needed like eight at least to properly split up all the animals into smaller quantities so they wouldn't be as cramped in their temporary cages.

Yesterday I'd already played a bit of ring around the rosie and combined multiple cages of hamsters together.
Namely the Syrian hamsters as so long as you're putting multiples in cages that have multiples already within them they tend to do okay together.
But still I'm a bit leery about having like 8 hamsters in one cage....not much I can do about it though when I'm trying to make room in the back.

In any case.
I ended up combining together some Fancy Bears into one cage, some robos into another, and actually managed to have our three skinny pigs all get along well enough that they could be in one cage together.
-As one Skinny pig is like double the size of the other two so I was worried they wouldn't get along, but they were curled up together sleeping last I saw so yay!!

But yah, I managed to empty out a further three cages in the back doing this.
Which was great because that basically gave me the cages I needed for when our new shipment of animals comes in.
Though we may have over prepared because our winter whites and russians have been shorted for like the past forever...so I may not need the cages I prepped for them, but at least it's good to be over prepared rather than under prepared.

The notable occurrence in the store though...

Involves our Chinchillas.

As like...yesterday I had one.
But when I came in the cage on the floor was empty.
Which was good because the invoice says that we'll be getting in two more chinchillas this week.
However...when I went into our ISO room....there was a chinchilla...that had been returned.

Why?
Apparently he was aggressive to the customer's kids?
Which was interesting because apparently it was only the kids he was aggressive to...no other chinchillas no other adults, just the children...which makes me think that the children were doing something to antagonize the chinchillas....
Back to the point.
We had a chinchilla that was returned last night.
And since I was cleaning out the floor cage and needed to make room in the back, we decided that once I cleaned out the floor cage I would place the chinchilla in iso back on the floor because he'd have way more space out there then in the back.

-I do wonder if the customer who returned this chinchilla bought the other chinchilla yesterday....

BUT.

That meant that I would be having three chinchillas in a cage if we didn't sell this one before Thursday when the other two would be coming in.

And like we've had three in a cage before...but it's been a long while...years maybe? It's basically always been two really.

But three should be fine.

HOWEVER.

Around lunch time we had a SECOND chinchilla returned.

This one because the customer's dog kept trying to attack it. :S Not a good environment.
So the customer brought the chinchilla back.

This one we ended up putting straight back on the floor as I hadn't yet brought the one in ISO out to it's clean cage and by putting the recent return back on the floor it saved me from having to clean a cage in the back...so yah.

But that means that we currently have TWO chinchillas in the store.

Which again, is pretty common.
BUT
I'm expecting TWO MORE on Thursday.

So If I don't sell these two I already have and do receive in the new ones....

I'm gonna have four chinchillas in the same cage. ()_()

Idk if I've ever had that many together at once. :S
If I did it was way back in the beginning when I first started working here.
*shakes head*

I'm hoping we sell the other two before the new two come in.
But we'll see.

If I don't I hope that all four will get along....otherwise we're going to have to separate them and have some on the floor and the others off the floor until we sell the ones on the floor and that would be just a pain.
*exhales*

Yah.
Should be interesting.

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Lunch Date

Daddoo randomly dropped by to pick me up from work today.
He happened to be in the area at the right time.
And was like "Let's go grab Sarnic and get something to eat!"

Lol which was actually a lot of fun.
I do enjoy the one on one times I have with him.

and it was nice to just sit in a booth and chat over basically a hamburger and fries. -Okay I got chicken rings instead of a hamburger, but Daddoo had the hamburger so it counts.

It was just nice to go somewhere to eat with someone lol.

Though if this becomes a more common occurrence I may need to think about keeping a change of clothes in my locker at work...at least an extra shirt to change into so I'm not in uniform while I'm elsewhere.

But yah.
It was nice.
Just chatting.
And then enjoying our milkshakes/icecream cones. ^^;;

Probably not the best idea to have something cold when it's cold and snow covered outside.
;) But isn't that the best time?

but yah.
It was fun.
fun to do something different after work than go home and take a nap....not that I didn't do that once I got home.
But it was nice to be out socializing for a bit lol.

I'll be watching the leaves.

Slip N Slide

I slipped on ice today.

Which is notable for the simple reason that it's been a long long while since I've slipped on ice.
Usually my grip and balance are better.

But walking on ice in pants and sneakers is much different than when you're in heels and a dress.

So yah.
Walking to church, I stepped from the parking lot onto the sidewalk and noted that there was ice.
And I was sure that I had avoided like the big patch I saw.
But apparently there was a more invisible slick patch that I had missed entirely.

Because inbetween one step and the next my feet were suddenly not cooperating with me.
*exhales*

And down I went.
Thankfully I didn't break my phone.
And i was wearing gloves so my palms didn't get too scratched up, though they did ache a little from the force of the impact.

The most major injury was that I had slightly scraped my knee.
Because I was wearing a shorter skirt it meant the skin of my knee came into direct contact with the pavement.

Thankfully I think my hands hit the ground before my knee did, so like....it wasn't that bad.
I mean I didn't have to go get bandaids or anything.
But it did suck to have my leg get 'injured' right before church. *shakes head*
Again, luckily I didn't need like a first aid kit because I would have no idea where to get one on campus. *shakes head*

But yah.
I was more careful walking after that point.
Still skidded a little bit on a different patch after church, but I managed to stay on my feet for that one.

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!
