I couldn't resist sharing this story that Elder Oaks told us today, that was printed in an ensign years ago, in our Stake Conference gathering. It just put a smile on my face. :)
The situation of a Church member who is single can be illustrated by a simple
analogy. Imagine that your favorite hobby is stargazing and you’ve just joined a
stargazing club. You come to your first club activity eager to participate. It’s
a cold night, but you’re not concerned: most of the club members are wearing
club jackets, and you’ve been told you should be able to get one as well. But
there is no jacket for you. You ask about it, and you are told to keep looking
and that if you do your best, you will find a jacket when the time is
right.
Meanwhile, you are getting pretty cold and a little worried. And you notice
that most of the other club members are talking about how nice and warm their
jackets are. In fact, throughout the evening the topic surfaces continually in
various forms: how to wash and dry your jacket, how to add extra pockets, how to
mend it, and so forth. Some of the club members notice you don’t have a jacket.
“You really need a jacket for these activities,” they tell you. “Why don’t you
have one yet?”
While this analogy should not be taken too far, it does serve to show how
awkward it can sometimes feel to be a single member of a conventional ward.
Fortunately, however, there are family wards in which single members feel
included and know their contributions are valued.

Oh Surely That Wouldn't Be Outside
So there I was.
Doing my duties in Starsmet.
Learning on the job.
Interacting with everything,
and one of the employees comes up to the Reth -who was guiding me-.
He asked "Do you got a minute?"
"Yah...why?"
"Well, I was sweeping outside and I found this critter...I can't tell if it's a crab or a scorpion and I was hoping you could identify it."
I heard this conversation and just assumed that it was a bug that the guy had found.
Most likely a cockroach or something with scaly looking platelets.
Reth went outside and came back in with.
A crab.
O.o
So random!
We think it escaped and found its way outside.
But that was totally something I wasn't expecting to have happen.
After all, I live in an area where neither crabs or scorpions are common to find outside.
That's why I dismissed the possibility that it was either.
The things you find while on the job lol. :)

The Dream
It was like I was in a Cinderella esk situation where I had a step mom and two step sisters. I had just finished doing chores and such, which stepmother didn't like very much. I had apparently not done them right or done them fully though I had been working like crazy. But she took us all to the beach, which I didn't really want to go to but I didn't have a choice. We were going to go to a specific building down in the beach. On the way one of the step sisters a girl with red hair that was a bit over weight was telling me that I needed to walk more feminine. I didn't see anything wrong with my walk, but one glance from the step mother and I was doing my best to walk a bit more girly. We approached the beach but the waves were humongous. The beach started at like twelve stories up and had a steep slope down to the beach and the building we wanted to swim in -it was like a pool...at the beach. But when we reached the plank to go down. The waves were super high. They were supposed to be at the bottom of the sand hill, but they were overflowing the top. One of the life guards called for them to cut the blades -the metal things that made the waves because they were so chaotic and dangerous.
Then the unholy tones of daylight pulled me away....
and I became myself again. :)

It's My Life
There I was, on YouTube looking up video clips.
Why?
Because I was looking for inspiration on what I should look forward to next while watching the Case Closed series I told you about a bit ago. I was also halfway doing this to show a friend a character of the series that I thought she might like.
I don't even know how I ended up at this one particular music video.
Perhaps it was the title of the song that caught my attention.
or the title of the video.
It was late when I found it, to the point where I was ready to nod off to sleep land.
But watching this one video.
Totally perked me up again.
Why?
BECAUSE IT WAS AWESOME!
I mean I don't usually get into music videos unless I want to listen to a song I like.... or just trying to find scenes/characters and see what other pieces of episodes they are in so I can look for them in music videos.
But this song.
This video.
Oh man. Just how it was portrayed....was....heart poundingly cool. :)
lol or at least I think it is, you may watch the video and wonder what I think is so cool about it..especially if you have no idea about the characters of case closed....but to me this is awesome. Everything comes together in such a way that I'm totally hooked onto it. In so much that the song and clips are stuck in my head even when I'm not watching the video....and I just want to watch the video again and again and again and again.
What video is it?
This one:
The Dream
I was on project runway, doing a team challenge with another girl who at times looked like Sonja from the current Project Runway season going on, and at others looked kinda like my roommate Kah. We had to design an outfit while...oddly enough we were in a grocery store. That was our location though our fabric was just regular fabric with fancy designs on it. The two of us were doing a top/trouser look -like Sonja's on project runway. When Tim Gunn came out saying that there was more to this challenge and that they would put on a fashion show to show us what the addition to our challenge was. All these models walked out wearing bedazzled things. Shoes, fingernails, bracelets. Just different items that had been jeweled. And we had to create three accessory pieces to go with our outfit -dress that we were making. So Kah and I set to work, we figured out the first two items quickly, shoes and...I think putting jewels on the girl's eyelids right on top of the eyelashes. We scrounged around my bedroom and I pulled open a drawer in a corner that had beads in it. I found a few bracelets that I had made years ago and said that we could use one of these. I asked what colors we needed and Kah said that we needed blue and white. I poked through my bracelets and found two of them that were blue and white though of different shades. We went with the first pattern I picked out as it looked the best out of the two and ran back to the store to finish getting our model ready, but I had a thought...that it might be cheating to use an accessory I had made years ago and not while on the show, so I went to the judges to make sure my suspicion was correct. It was. I couldn't use the bracelet as that would be considered cheating. Soo I had to do a quick change on our accessory and we were down to the wire. I grabbed some wire..fabric stuff and grabbed a single bead that was speckled blue and green in turquoise like colors and glued it to the fabric before threading the wire through the bead. I was making a ring, but the red wire loop was big enough to fit three fingers instead of just the one I needed, so I had to lots of cutting and twisting and pulling away of fabric so it was just the bead and wire before putting it on our model. We set off to the runway, up a dirt path to a home on the hill, but our model dropped her tiki mask that she was wearing as Kah escorted her up the path, so I grabbed that and entered the house that looked like Grandma's living room in the green house. There were family members sitting there on couches and kinda around the kitchen table in the living room, and I went straight up to a guy, thinking that it was my dad and hit him with the tiki mask. I looked up and realized that it wasn't my dad, but some other guy which was why I hit him. He'd been yelling at his family and I'd had had enough of his loud voice so I gave him a piece of my mind telling him that he was an idiot for yelling at his family and that having a loud voice didn't gain him any respect at all and he was just stupid for being so stupid with how he was treating his family....

Love it!!
And my favorite favoritest of all favorite part of this music video?
The part where he's playing soccer with the Whale.
Why? Because in the series Conan is really serious and it just makes me happy to see him relax and just have fun playing a sport he's super good at. ^^
Now...to find the episode that scene is taken from.... lol :)

Not Connected Up
Several years ago, upon entering an electrical establishment, Elder James E. Talmage saw an impressive array of lamps, door chimes, and other electrical items.
And "having chosen a lamp, [he] turned the switch to test the ... light; but lo, there was no light.
The attendant told [him] that the lamps were there as an exhibit only, but were not connected up."
He reported, "I turned to the bells, but when I pressed a button I listened in vain for [a] responsive tinkle. And so with everything [else] in the shop--pleasing to look upon, some pieces artistic, all suggestive of usefulness, but, as displayed, they were [only] ornaments and nothing more, for they were not connected up."
Upon leaving the shop Elder Talmage thought, "A burning candle ... is worth more in terms of utility than the most elaborate of electroliers without the current."
Then a fitting parallel came to his mind of the "scriptural description of minds and souls darkened and deceived by outward appearances while devoid of spirituality: 'Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.'
....Continuing with Elder Talmage, he said: "Men may ... erect church buildings--from humble chapel[s] to stately cathedral[s]--but [they are only] elaborate externals if they are not connected up with the source of divine wisdom and authority through the [current] of the holy priesthood ... [and the] vitalizing power of the Holy Ghost."
David B. Haight -Filling the Whole Earth -Apri1 1990 General Conference
Sometimes I wonder...how connected we are to other people. I mean today while crossing the street, I had a guy call out my name from one of the cars. I waved to them and smiled...but I couldn't see who it was because the sun was in my eyes when I turned back to the truck. Still. I've spent the day wondering how I'm connected to them. I assume it must be a 'good connection' because if it wasn't...I doubt the guy would have said hi to me. lol :)

The PreDawn Blessing
It's a blessing.
To be able to suffer all throughout the night.
But when the dawn comes and my responsibilities arise...the suffering fades,
and I'm able to go out and have a normal day.
As if I never had suffered at all.
This of course happened last night.
It was a bit different from usual.
Usually I just have a headache on the 9-14 pain scale that keeps me up at night.
I had the headache, but it wasn't that bad.
I know of course that I caused the headache for:
a) Not eating enough.
b) Not drinking enough.
c) Not sleeping enough.
d) Being around cleaning chemicals alot
e) Slightly stressing about cleaning.
But last night...I woke up feeling like I was in the middle of a flu.
My chest was tight. My nose was stuffed, but when I sat up a whole bunch of clear stuff just poured from my nose almost like a bleeding nose would. My head was stuffed up as well figuratively and literally.
It was the oddest feeling.
But bad enough that I felt like I had a really bad cold.
And that I considered not going into work this morning because of how bad I was feeling.
So I made plans. What would I do if this didn't go away.
I really didn't want to put of my obligations.
So I did what I could to relieve my suffering.
And dozed off and on until I only had tenish minutes to get ready.
I felt better then.
Not sick anymore.
Not a headache anymore.
It's a true blessing.
That even though I suffer throughout the night once or twice a month...
I can still get up in the morning with the pain gone.
I'm going to be forever thankful for it. ^^

The Dream
Because of my headache...my brain focused on one thing. Before this one thing though I had a small dream where I'd lost most of my teeth while running up and down a tower home type place going up and down stairs trying to escape something, my teeth just kinda...fell out. *shudders* I hate those types of dreams. But the focused dozing dream was I was at Starsmet being trained. There was three or four people there, with one cute boy taking charge. And he was going through the whole training process telling me which boxes went where and where to do stuff...it was a rather dreary foggy dream. I only really saw blurred shapes. It was mostly talking in my head. Conversations.

Oh Cleaning Checks, How Much I Don't Miss You
I think the people in charge of our apartment complex would have a conniption if they did unannounced cleaning checks one of these days.
Luckily they didn't.
As it's been almost six months since we've had a cleaning check.
Gotta love the summer days. :)
A break from everything!
Especially cleaning ;) haha.
I'm glad that we do get cleaning check warnings though.
As most of the time our apartment looks like a tornado went through the place.
Dirty Counters, Dishes piled in the sink, grease on the stove, random art projects everywhere, and the rooms...a disaster area in themselves.....
lol I almost wonder if the 'checkers' purposely give us warning before hand,
because they don't want to see how messy their apartments are getting.
I don't think they always succeed.
I've heard from them that there are disgusting apartments that they go into.
So I suppose its a breathe of fresh air (full of cleaning smells) to see apartments neat and tidy.
Like ours.
I don't really appreciate the effort that it takes to get the place clean.
It feels like hours upon hours of work for the chance that you might fail anyway.
But I do really appreciate the clean look our apartment has afterwards.
lol it will last maybe two days tops.
Before its all back to 'normal'
But that clean look and feel is very refreshing. ^^;;
And like the conversation with my mom earlier today talked about....
I don't know if we would clean if cleaning checks were around.
I mean we do clean....just not as super clean.
Things get missed or continuously put off.
So Cleaning Checks are good for a clean apartment for a couple of days.
Otherwise...they always come at a time when you're really stressed. *shakes head*
Gotta love that timing. :)
Until you next see these words;

The Dream
Kikay and I were packing. I think we were heading home as the room looked a bit like a typical hotel room with double beds. We gathered our stuff though alot of Kikay's jewelry fell to the floor I thought I had grabbed them all. Turned out I hadn't. When we got back home Kikay discovered that she was missing her favorite necklace among other positions that we hadn't packed in our hurry to get back home. I think she went off to go get her stuff, but I was dealing with a different type of trouble. I was in my brother's room in the basement. And I kept seeing spiders all over the place. Small ones at first but as I went between his room, the storage room and the downstairs bathroom the signs of the spiders got more apparent. More visible. The silk threads of their webs shone in the dim light. And the spiders got bigger as well. One was like a crab and white, it was super creepy and I was getting more creeped out, but I had a bit of trouble getting out of these rooms as there were a group of...homeless vampire type people a mother and two boys -like from Pete's Dragon there wanting to take over our home. I knew that they weren't going to be the best tenants as they were letting the place get filthy -hence all the spiders- so I was staying to convince them to leave as they did have a healthy fear of spiders when...
the unholy tones of daylight pulled me away....
and I became myself again. :)

L. Tom Perry -Called to Serve
- You will be much more comfortable with the interview with your bishop if he is already your friend.
- In my mind I made a commitment to myself that I would always live worthy to pass an interview held with one of my priesthood leaders.
- I do not want to leave you with the impression that you will not have any hard times, because you will. And that is where growth comes.
- No greater honor or blessing can come to man than the authority to act in the name of God.
- The power of the priesthood comes gradually. Even our Savior had to master the flesh and grow "grace for grace" until He received a fullness.
- "Son, I know; I'm sorry. But really, I'm no worse than anyone else."
- The son replies, "Dad I know; but I thought you were better."
- Any film, television show, music, or printed material unfit for youth is also unfit for parents.
- "'Be ... as perfect as [you] can,' for that is all we can do. ... The sin .. is [not doing] as well as [you know] how."
- We expect a lot from our Aaronic Priesthood brethren, and, properly trained, they seldom disappoint us.
- "Behind every great man stands a great woman."
- "Behind every great man in the Church stands a surprised mother-in-law"
- "Am I giving enough attention and time to personal change, which will make me a better person in the eyes of the Lord?"
- When we really understand, accept, and commit ourselves to these priesthood duties, we prepare ourselves for a miraculous change with eternal consequences.
- Repentance is change, conversion is change, perfecting is change. All this is in complete harmony with the desires of our Heavenly Father and the loving pleadings of the Redeemer.
- The book is to be feasted upon, not nibbled.
- Our Heavenly Father has made the promise that He will put a new spirit in people and "take the stony heart out of their flesh."
- "Yagottawanna," he said, "means that you have to want to do something before you will do it." Of course I knew that all along, but it was good to hear him say it.
- Isn't it wonderful that we can trust our Father in Heaven to do what he says he will do?
- When we take something into our hearts, it usually means that we feel something.
- How many of you have heard an inspiring thought, hymn, or story, and then had a desire to go do something good? This is not unusual; it is a healthy, spiritual feeling that is essential to our progress. But how often have you followed through on those feelings?
- "Our feelings were given us to excite to action, and when they end in themselves, they are cherished to no good purpose."
- Once we have felt something, we must act in order to hold on to those feelings we experience.
- "The more often [a person] feels without acting, the less he will be able ever to act, and, in the long run, the less he will be able to feel."
- Youth with sincere desires take initiative. They do good things without waiting to be told.
- They act rather than wait to be acted upon. They are in control of themselves. Such control is a wonderful feeling. It is a feeling we get when we exercise one of our most precious gifts--that of free agency.
- "The things that matter most must not be at the mercy of the things that matter least."
- Proper worship illustrates how "Yagottawanna" works. For example, how many of you have assumed the "bored position" during sacrament meeting? You know the position: bent forward at the waist, chin resting on hands, elbows on knees, staring vacantly at the floor. Has it occurred to you that it is your choice whether the meeting is interesting or not?
- There is a look of determination about you. You know who you are and what God expects you to become.
- He "went about doing good ... for God was with him."
-This was a great talk based on the state of the church as the title says :)
Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!
