Puzzled

I'd been thinking about doing this for a while.
Like a year or so in fact.
Because I was searching for ways for me and the roommates to have a bonding thing.

And I thought, why not just buy a cool puzzle and spread it out on the table and whoever wants to work on it can work on it.
And maybe, if I can get it to work right, we'd paste it onto a poster board and hang it up or something.

I never got around to it. Mostly because I didn't find a picture I wanted to do a puzzle with and I didn't think the last set of roommates would let it lay out on the table for a week or a month, however long it takes to finish the puzzle.

Well, this week, I got a puzzle.
There was a picture that caught my eye and I thought, why not?
So I bought the puzzle.
Laid it out on the table.
And hid the picture so the roomies wouldn't know what picture they were putting together. ^^
I thought it would be fun.

Of course things usually don't happen how you picture them.
I'd been hoping that the roomies would come right over to the puzzle and start helping me when I started putting it together.

*sighs*
Yah.
So far I've been the only one to work on it.
^^ Which is a lot of fun.
It's been a long time since I've actually put a physical puzzle together. (I've done online ones every now and then.)
So it's been fun to try and get it all together.
And when its a 1,000 piece puzzle...yah its going to take a while.
I've nearly got all the edge pieces found and pieced together.
Been working on bits and pieces.

Its fun. ^^ I just hope the other roomies join in.
It can be rather relaxing.

Here's to puzzle making!

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Desperate Prayers

I could feel it coming on Wednesday night,
That I wasn't feeling well.
Which was bad.

Really bad.
Because Thursday I had this family dinner thing planned.
Where I was making Tacozanga. (yay tacozanga) for the family as the main course.
And Tacozanga is no easy thing to make. It takes like an hour, a sharp mind, and the ability to multi task.
Not something you want to try and attempt when you're not feeling well.
ly t
So I did the only thing I could do at that point.
Prayed.
Help. Please, let me feel fine so that I can make dinner and enjoy family time. Please. I'd really appreciate it.

And Thursday happened.
And I was so happy.
Because I felt fine. I was able to make dinner, spend time with family.
And walla! I was totally fine to not feel fine after that point.

Until I came home.
And discovered that our apartment complex had just given us notice that we were having a cleaning check. Today (Saturday.)
>.< Someone obviously dropped the ball. Because 36 hours is not adequate notice. Usually they give us more notice than that. >.< On Monday or Tuesday. But Thursday?!
It wasn't good because one of my roommates had gone on vacation.
Which meant that she wouldn't be here for the cleaning check.
Which meant more cleaning for the rest of us (me. just me really.)
Which meant.
I really really couldn't afford to not feel well on Friday either.
As I would need to have the energy to clean up the apartment. And since I was doing more tasks this time....
feeling unwell wasn't going to work either.

So again I sent out a desperate prayer.
Please, I already asked you to do this once. But...I really need to feel well tomorrow too. Please. I can understand if it doesn't happen since I already asked once. But I really could use feeling good in order to be able to clean.

And guess what!
I felt fine! I was able to spend a few hours cleaning mine and my roomies list of chores provided. And walla! It was great!

And then the unwellness hit today.
In the middle of work.
Which made it rather a demon's pit to get through that shift.
But it was worth it to not be sick on Thursday and Friday when things were more important.
Working sick isn't as bad. Done it before. I have tomorrow off to rest.
So all in all. It was a good day to get sick. ^^

Yay for answered prayers!! :D

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

A Day in Review -September 11th

Sunday, September 11th, 2005

-Its the anniversary for when the twin towers collapsed. It was a sad day.

Monday, September 11th, 2006

-It's the 5 year anniversary of 9/11 when the twin towers were bombed. Also went shopping for a Boutonniere for Dirk for prom as well as bought D.N. Angel 11 at the bookstore.

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

-Today marks the 7th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the twin towers and the pentagon. 7 years later and we're still in a pointless war in Iraq, just like the Vietnam war.
Good news, my alarm went off today. bad news I woke up with really bad butterflies fluttering around in my stomach. I'm not sure why I was so nervous. It could have been a combination of many things like my nervousness about Randy calling (no idea who this guy is now...) me having to sign an ASL story in front of a camera, worrying about being late for class, or the fact that last night I dreamt I was getting married, but me and my husband to be were wearing skeleton masks and the groom had a skeleton suit on as well. A creepy dream. But I made it down to school in time for Institute where I didn't have to play the piano another guy did instead. Then between my classes I went and signed my 3 minute story. Visited my counselor to check about transfer credits and then for lunch I had tatertots before heading to the club joining thing to meet up with my class in front of the asl table. After signing up for the club we hung out signing and across from us was a "knapping" table. Curious I went over to see if it was the stone knapping (making arrowstones thing.) Turns out it was the actual Napping thing. (sleeping.) Where they want to lobby the school to put bunk beds throughout the school as they were tired of students taking up the chairs to sleep in. Personally I don't think they should have beds in the school. :S Doesn't seem sanitary to me... in any case, after having a conversation with them (I signed/wrote on paper as I couldn't talk due to it being an ASL class and we were supposed to just be signing.) I took a 2 hour nap. Did my Heredity homework and chatted with Mother Dearest about finances.

Friday, September 11th 2009

-Today ended up being a pretty good day. While walking to school, Elise from my ASL class picked me up and drove me the rest of the way to class. Since I got there super early, I called mother dearest, chatting with her for a bit until more students began to show up. in Voice and Diction we practiced relaxing our jaws with little sayings. Philosophy was interesting today because a girl came up to me and asked if I was still in high school and I told her I'd graduated 2 years ago... lol that seemed to make her think that I'd graduated young. She asked how old I was and I told her. And it just seemed to confuse her more. Biology and ASL were normal, I got out of biology 5 minutes early and saw a girl with ice cream. I investigated further and found out people were giving out cake and ice cream to celebrate the founding of the school. in ASL history we spent the whole class period trying to figure out a crossword puzzle. Whoever made it up didn't know how to spell... Started walking to the bus stop but then remembered I was supposed to be walking home with Kristen. Turns out she had a lunch date with her mom so I caught the bus anyways. I ended up running into Sharon from HS (one of my friend's little sisters.) I came home and relaxed until 7 when me, Kristen and Heather went to an Enrichment Activity where we made flower clips. They weren't as cool looking as I thought they'd be...so I ended up messing around with fabric and eating refreshments. Came home and watched the Wizards of Waverly Place movie. Kendra came home and I found out she can't stand having dirty dishes in the sink...probably not full garbage cans either....

Saturday, September 11th 2010

-Ended up sleeping in til 11:30 today. Spent most of the day feeling sleepy. Staying up til 3 isn't good for me. Ventured to Walmart for food after I took a shower, then spent the rest of the day hanging out watching the Harry Potter movies. Only made it til #3 though. Worked on writing while watching. Woot!

Sunday, September 11th 2011

-Today was the 10th Anniversary of the collapse of the twin towers as well as the attack on the Pentagon and the almost attack on Washington D.C. I spent the 10th anniversary...well in church. I had church from 9:30-12:30. Came home and made BLTs for lunch and shared with the roommates. Watched a few shows about the 9/11 attacks and did a bit of writing and Anatomy Homework. Went to the Neffies after our friends came over first to make Zucchini bread. We played Werewolf and Harry Potter Clue. Came home and cleaned in preparation for the cleaning check.

Tuesday, September 11th 2012

-After going to work and institute I spent the rest of the day cleaning the apartment with a small break to pick up Kikay from school and deposit a couple of checks I'd discovered while cleaning.  which made it hard to sleep Used the ATM for the first time to do the deposit. That was interesting. :) Did lots more cleaning and ended up with a headache that made it difficult to sleep and had me seriously considering not going into work because of how awful I felt.

Wednesday, September 11th 2013

- I only got 3 1/2 hours of sleep last night because Taar called me a little after 4 am to see if I could come in early because Joc had called I sick. So I did. I opened the whole department by  myself and also received in the small pets. The guy delivering the shipment was really informative and helpful for a newbie like me, though Cinres was also on hand to double check that the animals were healthy as well. Hopefully they stay healthy. :S Taar also let me and Kennan have sodas today, I think because we looked tired from working so hard. (we would get sodas as rewards for doing a good job.) At least Cinres didn't make me work til my original shift, which was til 3:30pm. I only had to work until 1:30 with Taar covering the hour and a half gap for me before my next coworker showed up. Went to Walmart and finally found work pants in my size! Yes! I also bought Star Trek into Darkness and some gas for my car, before going to the office to pay them more money as with the switching of the year, prices went up but the bill I received hadn't taken that into account. XP Hung out watching some 9/11 shows and I'm crossing my fingers that I don't get another 4 am wake up call tomorrow. (I didn't but did get a major headache that made it difficult to sleep.)

Thursday, September 11th 2014

-Work was crazy when I got in at 11. Kay was swamped with customers, and the bedding change hadn't been done yet. Chaos added upon itself with the delivery guy showing up with a shipment of new animals right then as well. Plus Kay was off at 11, so I had to deal with the craziness by myself. Luckily  Tam the new manager was on hand to give me a hand while I dealt with the deliver guy. Though the problem compounded upon itself when I found out that no cages had been prepared for the new delivery of animals! Sirch had thought that since I hadn't been able to find an order for our animals, that we weren't getting any today, so didn't have anyone prepare them. Luckily Katie managed to clean enough cages for me to quickly grab some, though they weren't set up. I did however establish that for some reason Kay  had decided to open the entire dept first and then do bedding changes. (never a good idea when the second person comes in AFTER the store opens.) I think she was trying to make my life easier...but got swamped with customers so she couldn't finish things. At least she'd gotten the dishes clean, I just needed to quickly change out the dirty bedding and put everything back. So after checking in with Tam and establishing the order of importance I first set up the new animals in their cages giving them their things, then got bedding changes done. Managed to do it all before Sirch came in at 1:30! Ha! After that point things got a little easier and I worked on our bug shipment and scrubbed tanks. All in all after that 11-12:30 rush things slowed down. :) After work I dropped by Hobby Lobby intending to get some shelves but decided against it for the time being until my room is more organized. That way I can see if I actually need the extra shelving or not. I did drop by Walmart and got a poster frame but found out it was too big when I got it home. :( I'll have to see if I can exchange it tomorrow after work. With my walls finally 'repainted' I was able to work on hanging things up, I also tried to put together my bigger bookshelf, but realized that I probably shouldn't be banging things with a hammer after midnight...oops.

Friday, September 11th 2015

-I had work this morning. Surprisingly I had a second opener in earlier than it has been, which meant we got done with everything a lot faster than normal because I wasn't opening the department by myself. We were even done with our fish shipment within the hour of the store opening. O.o Crazy. Also crazy was that we got in our bug shipment today instead of yesterday (due to Labor Day our shipments were delayed a day.) So I spent a lot of time counting crickets because we're trying to be more proactive in ensuring that we're being sent the right amount so that we don't have huge losses in our inventories every week. Thankfully it was a slow day, so we didn't have too many customers that needed help, so we were able to get everything opened and all our tasks done. :) After work I dropped by Walmart to grab cleaning supplies, as once again we have a cleaning check tomorrow. XP BLEH!! Its even more annoying this go around because they only informed us of this check yesterday! It's more difficult because Zizz is gone on vacation. So we had to take over her tasks as well. (I'm not about to let her fail because the apartment complex dropped the ball on informing us of this before she left.) And when I say we....I really mean me. I did nearly all her tasks. Another roommate did a little bit of her kitchen duties...but the rest...all me. *sighs* It really should have been more of a team effort on that. >.< Especially considering that Zizz and I helped out the other when she wasn't there for the last cleaning check!! >.< Grr. In any case, I grabbed Wendy's and once I got home from work I found Yater in a hyperventilation state due to her computer being ancient and cranky and not downloading things. Tried to soothe her by giving her fries and talking with her, but she found more comfort from Sejei who knew people who could help her out. We ended up going to Rita's -an ice and custard place- to get 'ice cream' there. I ended up getting a watermelon ice with some chocolate custard (tastes like ice cream.) before we came back to the apartment. I spent the next three hours cleaning up mine and Zizz's tasks....I really hope she can find everything when she gets back....

A Desire to Jump

Harry de Leyer was late to the auction on that snowy day in 1956, and all of the good horses had already been sold.
The few that remained were old and spent and had been bought by a company that would salvage them.

harry, the riding master at a girls' school in New York, was about to leave when one of these horses-an uncared-for, gray gelding with ugly-looking wounds on its legs--caught his eye.
The animal still bore the marks that had been made by a heavy work harness, evidence to the hard life he had led.4
But something about him captured Harry's attention, so he offered $80 for him.

It was snowing when Harry's children saw the horse for the first time, and because of the coat of snow on the horse's back, the children named him "Snowman."

Harry took good care of the horse, which turned out to be a gentle and reliable friend--a horse that girls like to ride because he was steady and didn't startle like some of the others.
In fact, Snowman made such a rapid improvement that a neighbor purchased him for twice what Harry had originally paid.

But Snowman kept disappearing from the neighbor's pasture--sometimes ending up in adjoining potato fields, other times back at Harry's.
It appeared that the horse must have jumped over the fences between the properties, but that seemed impossible--Harry had never seen Snowman jump over anything much higher than a fallen log.

But eventually, the neighbor's patience came to an end, and he insisted Harry take back the horse.

For years, Harry's great dream had been to produce a champion jumping horse.
He'd had moderate success in the past, but in order to compete at the highest levels, he knew he would have to buy a pedigreed horse that had been specifically bred to jump.
And that kind of pedigree would cost far more than he could afford.

Snowman was already getting old--he was eight when Harry had purchased him--and he had been badly treated.
But, apparently, Snowman wanted to jump, so Harry decided to see what the horse could do.

What Harry saw made him think that maybe his horse had a chance to compete.

In 1958, Harry entered Snowman in his first competition.
Snowman stood among the beautifully bred, champion horses, looking very much out of place.
Other horse breeders called Snowman a "flea-bitten gray."

But a wonderful, unbelievable thing happened that day.

Snowman won!

Harry continued to enter Snowman in other competitions, and Snowman continued to win.

Audiences cheered every time Snowman won an event.
He became a symbol of how extraordinary an ordinary horse could be.
He appeared on television.
Stories and books were written about him.

As Snowman continued to win, one buy offered $100,000 for the old plow horse, but Harry would not sell.

In 1958 and 1959, Snowman was named "Horse of the Year."
Eventually, the grey gelding--who had once been marked for sale to a low bidder--was inducted into the show jumping Hall of Fame.

For many, Snowman was much more than a horse.
He became an example of the hidden, untapped potential that lies within each of us.

Parking Lot Experience

There's always a first time for everything.
Today I experienced one of those firsts.

As I chose to head down to the College today,
To hang out, to write, to see if there were any people around that I knew.

But first, it was a matter of finding parking.

I'd known that there were a lot of students at the school. Had heard crazy stories about the parking.
But today I experienced it first hand.
I have a parking pass to the Institute parking lot.
Or lots. As there is one close lot and then a second further lot that is commonly referred to as "outer darkness."
In any case. I drove down to the school that morning, not expecting to find any spots in the close parking lot as that usually stays full from 8-12pm unless you time it just right. And I hadn't timed it right at all.
So after a quick glance about to see if I actually had timed it right...I headed to the second lot.
Expecting it to be full...
But still expecting there to be spots left.

There weren't. ()_()
For the first time, I saw the outer darkness parking lot completely full. O.o Say what?
Wow.
Just wow.
Definitely we have a ton of Institute students around this time around.

Thankfully about that point when I was realizing that I wouldn't find a spot.
I received a text from my roomie, asking if I wanted to go grab donuts with her.
So I gladly went and did that.

and returned later in the day to the school to hang out and relax. Luckily coming at just the right moment to get a spot in the close parking lot. ^^ Yay! :)

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

April 2006 General Conference -Sundary Afternoon

M. Russell Ballard -Creating a Gospel-Sharing Home
  • Our love for the Lord and appreciation for the Restoration of the gospel are all the motivation we need to share what gives us much joy and happiness. It is the most natural thing in the world for us to do, and yet far too many of us are hesitant to share our testimonies with others.
  • If you are truly motivated by love and testimony and gratitude, you will quite naturally do all that you can to assist the Lord in "[bringing] to pass the immortality and eternal life" of our Father's children. In fact, it would be impossible to keep you from doing it.
  • Gospel-sharing homes are very ordinary. They may not always be spotlessly clean nor the children perfectly behaved. But they are a place in which family members clearly love each other, and the Spirit of the Lord is felt by those who visit.
  • A gospel-sharing home is not a program. It is a way of life. Creating a gospel-sharing home means inviting our friends and neighbors into the ongoing flow of family and Church activities. As we invite our friends to join us for these activities, they will also feel the Spirit.
  • Creating a gospel-sharing home does not mean that we are going to have to dedicate large amounts of time to meeting and cultivating friends with whom to share the gospel. These friends will come naturally into our lives, and if we are open about our membership in the Church from the very beginning, we can easily bring gospel discussions into the relationship with very little risk of being misunderstood. Friends and acquaintances will accept that this is part of who we are, and they will feel free to ask questions.
  • A gospel-sharing home is not defined by whether or not people join the Church as a result of our contact with them. Our opportunity and responsibility are to care, to share, to testify, to invite, and then to allow individuals to decide for themselves. We are blessed when we have invited them to consider the Restoration, regardless of the outcome. At the very least, we have a rewarding relationship with someone from another faith, and we can continue to enjoy their friendship.
Richard G. Scott -Now Is the Time to Serve a Mission!
  • Children are best taught gospel truths in the home where instruction can be adapted to the age and capacity of each child. In the home the whole armor of truth is tailor fit to the individual characteristics of each child.
  • "Worthy single women ages twenty-one and older ... may be recommended to serve full-time missions. ... These sisters can make a valuable contribution ... ,but they should not be pressured to serve. Bishops should not recommend them for missionary service if it will interfere with imminent marriage prospects."
  • You will never regret serving a mission, but you most probably will regret not serving if that is your choice.
David R. Stone -Zion in the Midst of Babylon
  • Evil is coming toward us, whether or not we have an early-warning system.
  • Too many of the people of the world have come to resemble the Babylon of old by walking in their own ways, and following a god "whose image is in the likeness of the world."
  • All too often, we are like puppets on a string, as our culture determines what is "cool."
  • We can create the real Zion among us by limiting the extent to which Babylon will influence our lives.
  • "The world is too much with us."
  • We have always been entranced by tales of courage of those who faced fearsome odds and overcame. Courage is the basis and foundation for all of our other virtues; the lack of courage diminishes every other virtue that we have. If we are to have Zion in the midst of Babylon, we will need courage.
  • Make no mistake about it: much of Babylon, if not most of it, is evil.
  • We do not need to become as puppets in the hands of the culture of the place and time. We can be courageous and can walk in the Lord's paths and follow His footsteps. And if we do, we will be called Zion, and we will be the people of the Lord.
Robert S. Wood -Instruments of the Lord's Peace
  • The first casualties of human wrath are truth and understanding. James counseled that we be "swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God."
  • We need to raise the level of private and public discourse. We should avoid caricaturing the positions of others, constructing "straw men," if you will, and casting unwarranted aspersions on their motivations and character.
  • "Whenever your politics cause you to speak unkindly of your brethren, know this, that you are upon dangerous ground."
  • "This is not a militant church to which we belong. This is a church that holds out peace to the world. It is not our duty to go into the world and find fault with others, neither to criticize men because they do not understand. But it is our privilege, in kindness and love, to go among them and divide with them the truth that the Lord has revealed in this latter day."
  • We cannot afford to be caught up in a world prone to give and to take offense.
  • We can give our opinions on the merit of the situations as we see it, but never let us become a party to words or works of evil concerning our brothers and sisters in various nations on one side or the other. Political differences never justify hatred or ill will.
H. Bruce Stucki -Prayer, Faith, and Family: Stepping-Stones to Eternal Happiness
  • "As we offer unto the Lord our family and our personal prayers, let us do so with faith and trust in him. ... If any of us has been slow to hearken to the counsel to pray always, there is no finer hour to begin than now."
Joseph B. Wirthlin -The Abundant Life
  • First, they drink deeply of living waters.
  • "The Lord has not given us the gospel that we may go around mourning all the days of our lives."
  • The gospel of Jesus Christ is not a religion of mourning and gloom. The faith of our fathers is one of hope and joy. It is not a gospel of chains but a gospel of wings.
  • The second quality of those who live abundant lives is that they fill their hearts with love.
  • The third quality of those who live abundant lives is that they, with the help of their Heavenly Father, create a masterpiece of their lives.
  • No matter our age, circumstances, or abilities, each one of us can create something remarkable of his life.
  • There is a spark of greatness within every one of us--a gift from our loving and eternal Heavenly Father. What we do with that gift is up to us.
  • Create of your life a masterpiece.
  • The abundant life isn't something we arrive at. Rather, it is a magnificent journey that began long, long ages ago and will never, never end.
  • Who knows of what we are capable if we only try?
Gordon B. Hinckley -Until Again We Meet
  • May our labors in our many Church responsibilities be not burdensome, but rather may they bring joy and satisfaction.

General Young Women's Conference

Susan W. Tanner -"I am the Light Which Ye Shall Hold Up"
  • Good home life often goes unrecognized. It might be easier to "arise and shine forth, that thy light may be a standard for the nations" rather than that your light may be a standard for your own families. Sometimes others don't see us doing good, sharing our light in our individual homes. It is basic human nature to desire and seek praise and attention.
  • Good works should not be done for the purpose of receiving recognition.
  • Homes are also private places, so unfortunately, we often let down. In our homes and with our families we sometimes become our worst selves with the people who matter the most in our lives.
Julie B. Beck -You  Have a Noble Birthright
  • You are in a season of your life when you are making some of your most important decisions. Because you are being bombarded with so many incorrect messages about who you are, you need some additional guidance. You can learn more about your life and mission on earth and the light that is in you by preparing to receive and then studying your patriarchal blessing.
  • You are never too young to start learning about patriarchal blessings. I am glad I received my blessing before I was too heavily influenced by the confusing and incorrect messages in the world. I came away from that experience with the comforting assurance that the Lord loved me and knew me, and from that day onward I began to think more often in terms of eternity than popularity.
  • Your bishop and parents can help you decide when the right time is for you, because the age and readiness are different for each person.
  • Just like the early Saints, you can regard your patriarchal blessing as your own "personal scripture."
  • That each patriarchal blessing is inspired, "personal revelation from God." Each is "a star to follow, ... an anchor to our souls." They reveal our capabilities and potential.
  • Our blessings are a "[paragraph] from the book of [our] possibilities."
  • Because a patriarchal blessing is not meant to be a  prediction of all that will occur in the life of the recipient, we should seek and follow the guidance of the Holy Ghost to receive greater understanding for our course in life.
  • When we know how we are and what we are supposed to do, it is easier to make important decisions about education, careers, and marriage. It is easier to shine our light in our families, with our friends, and in all other places.
  • When you know who you are and what you should be doing with your life, you don't want to hide your light.
  • Your patriarchal blessing should inspire you to make changes in your life when they are needed. It contains promises that you can receive only through your faithfulness. If you are not faithful, you cannot plan on your blessing being fulfilled.
Elaine S. Dalton -It Shows in Your Face
  • You are making a difference.
  • Your very nature reflects your divine heritage and destiny. The fact that you were born a girl is not by chance. Your divine characteristics will be magnified as you lead others and arise to your divine potential.
James E. Faust -Your Light--a Standard to All Nations
  • Sisters, don't be afraid to be different in our century!
Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!
