The Cup Talk

I had to give my new Roommate the Cup Talk today.

Why?
Because she likes to have a cleaner kitchen then has recently been kept by me and the other roommate.

...Yah....another clean freak in the works it appears.
Unless me and the other roommate manage to make her relax about the whole thing.
Which I don't know how likely that will be as for her, a clean apartment means less stress, while for me and my other roommate...a clean apartment means more stress...
So we're going to have to find a happy medium somewhere in there.

Starting with the Cup Talk.

It's a very simple talk.

I have a cup I use to drink out of.

All the roommate has to do is:

Not.
Touch.
It.

I don't care if they move my other dishes around, clean them, put them in the sink.
It doesn't matter.

But this particular cup that I use throughout the day.

Do.
Not.
Move.
Do.
Not.
Touch.

It stays where it stays.

Do so and I'm happy.
Move it and you'll get a rather annoyed Sarnic.

My roommate was less than enthusiastic about the cup talk.

"I like to have the counters clea--"
"And I like to have One. Cup. On the counter. I don't care what you do with the other dishes, this does not move."
"Well...so long as it has a designated spot."
I gesture to the counter space in front of the fridge. "It will be somewhere here."

"But...don't you want to rinse out the juice on the bottom of the cup, I could clean it out for you---"
"Do. Not. Touch. My. Cup."

It's a simple rule.
I will clean it when I clean it.
You do not need to clean it for me.
My cup.
Do not move.
Do not touch.

Simple.
I don't need things constantly washed.
Its too much wasted effort in my opinion.
Its worked for me.
It will still work for me in the future.
Don't touch the cup.
And I'm good.
Its a small thing to ask.

And therefore.
The Cup Talk came to pass.
I'll probably have to give it again when the fourth roommate moves in.
But for now.
We're all on the same page in that regards. :)

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

A Missed Opportunity

Recently, a member in Monterrey, Mexico, told me how the Book of Mormon changed his life.
As a teenager, Jesus Santos was impressed by the LDS missionaries he saw walking down the dusty streets.
He wanted to talk to them about their church but was told by a friend that you have to wait for them to contact you.

Many times he would got to the Church building and look through the iron fence at the missionaries and the Mutual youth playing games.
They seemed to be so wholesome, and he wanted to be part of them.
He would lean his chin on the fence, hoping that they would notice him and invite him to participate with them.
It never happened.

As Jesus recounted his story to me, he said, "It is sad.
I was a young man and could have served a full-time mission."

He moved to Monterrey, Mexico.
Nine years later he was visiting a friend across town when the missionaries knocked at the door.
His friend wanted to send them away.
Jesus begged him to let the missionaries talk to them for just two minutes.
His friend consented.

The missionaries talked about the Book of Mormon, how Lehi's family traveled from Jerusalem to the Americas, and how the resurrected Jesus Christ visited Lehi's descendants in America.

Jesus wanted to know more.
He was especially intrigued by the picture depicting Christ's appearance in America.
He gave the missionaries his address.
He waited for months, but they never made contact with him.

Three more years passed.
Some friends invited his family to a family home evening.
They gave him a copy of the Book of Mormon.

As soon as he began to read it, he knew the Book of Mormon was true.
Finally, 12 years after he first became aware of the Church, he and his wife were baptized.
So many years had been lost.
If missionaries had just talked to him, if the Mutual youth had just noticed a lonely teenager looking over the fence, if the missionaries in Monterrey had found him at home, his life would have been different during those 12 years.
Gratefully, member neighbors invited him for a family home evening and shared with him that book which has such great converting power, the Book of Mormon.

Today Jesus Santos serves as the president of the Moneterrey Mexico Temple.

The Dream

I was at work, and heard a customer exclaim "The Snake bit me!" I turned the corner to see that one of my coworkers had left the keys in the cages, allowing a customer to unlock it and open up the milksnake cage. Take it out. And it bit her. I went over there and locked the cage back up taking the keys, only to wonder...if the snake had been put back. I turned and the girl was still holding the snake! So I put it back...

Then the unholy tones of daylight pulled me away....
and I became myself again.

Another One Bites The Dust

Its frustrating how quickly things can go wrong.
Seriously.
In the space of a couple of hours, things can go from good....to bad.
Unexpectedly.

>.<

I'd gotten on my laptop briefly Tuesday Morning.
It had been working fine.
I got off rather quickly though, because my roommate's car had been booted,
and I didn't want to be around the potential emotional storm that that would cause.

So I left rather quickly.
To go food shopping.

And when I came back.
The storm had passed.
So I wanted to relax.
By getting on my laptop.
So I turned it on.
And it froze on the first prescreen before you get into the main desktop area.
So I turned it off.
Turned it back on again.
Got to the desktop before it froze.
Turned it back off and on again.
Got to the password screen.
It froze.
Off On
off on
off on
Again and again.
Until I got a message I did not want to see.
"Hard Drive Not Found."

But disappeared it had.
>.< And the only way to get it fix.
Is to have it sent out to a fix it place.
Where I won't know how much it costs me to fix it until they see it. But probably over $100 plus shipping fees. And if they can fix it for that price....it would be gone for 2 weeks. :( Also not good.

So I talked to a few other people, trying to see if there was anyway to just buy a new hard drive.
but no. It has to be sent out as its not a simple hard drive to fix. >.< Boo.

And so....I made the decision.
That I would just have to look for a new laptop.
As the one that lost its Hard Drive....had already had a hard drive crash on it once before like a month or so after I got it.
Which means in the nearly 3 years that I've had it....it's had the hard drive crash twice.
Not a computer I want to spend money on.
Who knows what would break next.

So now I'm looking for a new laptop.

I'm not totally left void of the internet though.
As you see....
I bought a little tablet laptop a few months ago.
(Which I'm using currently.)
With the intention to use it for my writings.
But the thing is small.
And the mouse pad is in the most annoying spot ever and is so sensitive that if my  palm brushes it at the wrong moment suddenly I'm typing four lines above where I was typing before.
So.
Annoying.
Definitely need a bigger laptop, where that isn't a problem.
As my hand is cramping from having to hold it in an awkward position so my hand doesn't brush that sensitive mouse.

In any case.
This.
This is why I have had Trust Issues.
Because the last few laptops I've gotten.
This is the exact reason why I've had to get a replacement.
Because the hard drive crashes.
I lose everything.
The first time was devastating.
I lost a lot of things.
The two laptops after that.
Not so much.
Because I have trouble trusting them.
For good reason.
Because about the point where I do decide that I can start storing pictures, and documents on the laptop itself
IT GOES AND LOSES THE HARD DRIVE!
Gah!
Do you know how many times I've had to reinstall ITunes because of this?
I feel like I hardly get through listening all the songs in my library before, surprise! Its gone and I have to reinstall and redownload everything >.< Ugggghhh!!

This time around I didn't lose much.
ITunes.
A few notes on stories I was currently working on.
Nothing that is a crisis if I can't have it.

but Still.
Its frustrating.
Can I just once get a laptop that doesn't crash on me?
Please?
I want the good old laptops that are made to last!
Not the ones that crash after a couple of years. >.<
So.
Frustrating.

So here I go.
Laptop hunting again.
Trying to find one with the needs I need to have (like a touch screen)
Within my price range.
So difficult.
I may have to wait for sales to happen...
Dunno if I can manage that long though....
We'll see.

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

A Day In Review - August 4th

Friday, August 4th 2006

-My Daddoo drove back up to Wyoming today after spending a week back home for work to help us some more with Organizing Grandma Retrun's home, deciding which stuff of hers we wanted to take with us back home.

Saturday, August 4th 2007

-The Parents were gone to Colorado for a week to celebrate the Grandparent Dirchi's 50th Anniversary with all the Siblings. Us kids weren't invited. With Meralto at camp, it was just Kikay and I home alone to do whatever we wanted.

Monday, August 4th 2008

- I did the usual stuff today, mostly on the internet, trying to distract myself from the fact that my book didn't come today. I went down to the HS again and helped my friends Kailie and Dirk move computers and tables. I saw my old P.E. Teacher and My old Chemistry teacher there. I used to think teachers had a life during the summer, but I can see where the rumor started in Elementary School that teachers live at the school. I mean...it's summer. And they're there! (granted school starts at the end of the month.)

Tuesday, August 4th 2009

-Today I did the laundry thing and hung out about the house with Patches (dog we're watching.) following me all over the place unless I was outside with the kittens. I signed up for my Institute classes once Mom got home, and went to Bird World after the Insulation guys came by to get paid for their job. I got a Betta to take back with me to college. He was unique in the sense that compared to all the (He was a brownishyellow color. I called him Dobby -he died right after I saw HP7part1. Coincidence? I think not.)

Wednesday, August 4th 2010

-Got up this morning and gusseyed myself up to go meet Taycl at Keva Juice. Surprisingly he got there a couple of minutes before me and I was five minutes early. We bought our own drinks and sat outside the shop and talked for an hour and 15 minutes about everything and nothing. After coming back home, Kikay got a text from Taymil asking if we wanted dishes. So we went up there to check them out and ended up watching a movie that Taymil had made called "Zucchini" At 5pm the family went to Boondocks for Mother Dearests work party. We played laser tag which wasn't fun because there were no good hiding places. We then went to check out a 3d rollercoaster thing and played in the arcade before we went back home.

Thursday, August 4th 2011

-I woke up today with the intention of signing up for Pottermore but it took me til 11 to find the clue that would allow me early access to Pottermore. Good news. I got in!! woot! I couldn't do much on the site because I had a meeting with one of my teachers at 11:30. but I got there on time. :) We talked for 5 minutes, he and another teacher have two ideas for internships I can do. One was to help out a person in the library, the other was to interpret for a guy training to be an Olympic athlete. The details are still fuzzy but we should know for sure in a couple of days which one I'll be doing. I went to the institute and met a nice girl named Amanda. I also learned how to reprogram the electronic board today there. That was fun. I came home and finished a comic I was working on for a friend.

Saturday, August 4th 2012

-Hung out most of the day, did dishes at the apartment and discovered that Kah had left a cooking pot full of spaghetti in the sink that was moist since water runs into the sink a lot. It was smelly and disgusting. Tiff and family showed up to pack up her stuff as she has to be out by Wednesday. Kikay and I briefly went to the Neffies around 10pm because they got a new kitten. So cute!

Sunday, August 4th 2013

-I had work in the morning today, which is pretty difficult on a fast Sunday, but I managed it. I got all the major opening done before I left to go to sacrament meeting as it wasn't that busy in the morning. For sacrament I chose to go to Kikay's ward as their time had switched to a time I could run over and back during my lunch break without too much travel time. I also wanted to see if they would put in a new Bishop since the other one had passed away last week. While the Stake Presidency was there for support, they didn't call a new bishop there. It makes sense. With it so recent. There wasn't a dry eye in the room for that Fast and Testimony meeting. :( I really didn't want to go back to work afterwards, but I did. It was slightly busy then but not bad. I got bit by another Short Haired Syrian today. >.< I think I startled him so he reacted out of fear. After work I dropped by Kikay's apt (as it was closer to work.) to rest before going to the Viewing of Bishop C. It was so weird....seeing his body. Seeing him so still. It was him...but wasn't him. The spirit had left. After Kikay, Tiff, Kah and I met back up at Kikay's to have a Thanksgiving Dinner. I made crescent rolls. We hung out til nearly 10pm and when I got home I ended up falling asleep on the couch for a couple of hours before moving to my own bed.

Monday, August 4th 2014

-Work itself went alright this morning. I came in at 8 and had to do the fish count because Sirch had the day off. That put us behind in opening the department by half an hour or so as it took me like 45 minutes to count the fish. Special coworker was in charge of bird bedding this morning and I figured out part of the reason why they take a long time at that task. They actually catches the birds and puts them in a temporary cage to clean the cages! That's not necessary. You just work around the birds, but they find it easier to clean without all the feathers and dust being kicked up. (True, but such a time waster.) They managed to done with cleaning the cages by 9, but still had to put all the branches and food/water back. I ended up doing most of the opening while coworker barely helped out it seemed like. "Busy with customers." They said. Basically the whole situation gave me a headache I couldn't get rid of. Before I could go home from work, I had to take a side trip to the store to buy food. Once I got home and stuffed the perishable food into the fridge, I crashed on my bed for 2 hours and woke up feeling much better.

Tuesday, August 4th 2015

-It was my day off work today. It was supposed to be a day of rest, but I woke up to a text from my Awesome roommate saying that our new roommate's car had been booted. She'd forgotten to put the sticker in the car and so the tow truck had booted her. I left to get food, first a Sausage Crunchwrap from Taco Bell, before buying food from the store. Came home to try and relax on my laptop....only....my laptop wouldn't work. Turns out...the Hard Drive had crashed. >.< Again. I talked to a couple of people, took it to a couple of places and....its gone. Hard Drive. Gone. To get my computer fixed I have to get it sent out for 2 weeks for an unknown cost because they wouldn't quote me a cost in the store until they got it at their shop. After taking it to an Uncle to see what he had to say...I basically came to the decision that it would just be better to get a new laptop. considering my laptop that just crashed had already crashed once before in the nearly three years I've had it...might as well get a new one....Ugh. So. Frustrated. It worked fine this morning!

October 2005 General Conference -Sunday Afternoon

Russell M. Nelson -Jesus Christ-- the Master Healer

  • "I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren." Willingness to serve and strengthen others stands as a symbol of one's readiness to be healed.
Robert D. Hales -Preparations for the Restoration and the Second Coming: "My Hand Shall Be over Thee"
  • "God gave me the faith, and afterwards the courage."
  • "The nature of God's word is, that whosoever read it, ... it will begin immediately to make him every day better and better, till he be grown into a perfect man."
  • In the Lord's service the path is not always easy. It often requires sacrifices, and we will likely experience adversity. But in serving Him, we discover that His hand is truly over us.
Won Yong Ko -Sacrifice Is a Joy and a Blessing
  • Sacrifices cannot be easily made unless we have the mind and the determination to make sacrifices that are needed.
Paul E. Koelliker -Gospel Covenants Bring Promised Blessings
  • As we are faithful in keeping our agreement, He covenants, or promises, to bless us, ultimately with all that He has.
Lowell M. Snow -Compass of the Lord
  • Life is full of many intersecting roads and trails. There are so many paths to follow, so many voices calling out "lo, here" or "lo, there." There is such a variety and volume of media flooding our personal space, most of it intent on herding us down a path that is broad and traveled by many.
  • By small means the Lord can bring about great things.
Elder Ulisses Soares -"Feed My Sheep"
  • The gospel of Jesus Christ is about people, not programs.
  • People will remain in the Church when they feel someone cares for them.
  • People are most receptive to our influence when they feel that we truly love them, and not only because we have a calling to fulfill.
  • It is not always easy to love people for what they are.
Dieter F. Uchtdorf -Christlike Attributes-- the Wind beneath Our Wings
  • God works by power, but this power is usually exercised in response to our faith. "Faith without works is dead."
  • God works according to the faith of His children.
  • We have to be careful that the center of our testimony is not located in the social dimension of the Church community or the wonderful activities, programs, and organizations of our wards and stakes. All of these things are important and valuable to have--but they are not enough. Even friendship is not enough.
  • The test comes in practicing what we proclaim. The reality check comes when Christlike attributes need to become visible in our lives.
Gordon B. Hinckley -Benediction
  • May we strive to walk in righteousness before Him.

General Relief Society Meeting

Bonnie D. Parkin -Sweet Moments
  • I believe that you too have been guided and helped as you teach, comfort, and encourage.
  • Yet as women we are pretty hard on ourselves! Believe me when I say each of us is much better than we think. We need to recognize and celebrate what we're doing right. Much of what we do seems small and insignificant--just a part of daily living.
  • Sometimes our lives take unexpected turns, and we have to move from "plan A" to "plan B."
  • "I don't think I ever felt true happiness in my adult life until I came to the conclusion that my worth as a person and as a daughter of my Heavenly Father had nothing to do with my marital status. At that point, I began to focus on my spiritual and personal growth and not on whether I was ever going to marry."
  • Age is not a barrier to becoming an instrument in the hands of God.
  • "If you live up to your privilege[s], the angels cannot be restrained from being your associates."
Kathleen H. Hughes -That We May All Sit Down in Heaven Together
  • All of us long to possess Christ's pure love, called charity, but our humanness--the "natural woman" in us--gets in our way. We get angry. we become frustrated, we berate ourselves and others--and when we do, we cannot be the conduit of love we need to be if we are to become an instrument in Heavenly Father's hands. Being willing to forgive ourselves and others becomes an integral part of our ability to have the love of the Lord in our lives and to do His work.
  • "I only do one thing for myself when I go to church: I take the sacrament for me. The rest of the time I watch for others who need me, and I try to help and nurture them."
  • In helping others we keep our own spirits alive.
Anne C. Pingree -Knowing the Lord's Will for You
  • "We have entered into this work in the name of the Lord. Let us boldly go forward."
James E. Faust -Instruments in the Hands of God
  • Take your challenges one day at a time. Do the best you can.
  • I fear you sisters do not realize in the smallest part the extent of your influence for good in your families, in the Church, and in society. Your influence for good is incalculable and indescribable.
  • You sisters have divine attributes of sensitivity and love for things beautiful and inspiring. These are gifts you use to make our lives more pleasant.
  • If you have done your best, which you usually do, your humble offering, whatever it may be, will be acceptable and pleasing to the Lord.
  • We all need friends. Friendship fills us with warmth and love. It is not confined to the young or the old, the rich or the poor, the little known or the public figure. Whatever our circumstances, we all need someone who will listen to us with understanding, pat us on the back when we need encouragement, and nurture in us the desire to do better and to be better.
Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

The Same Lesson

Its so sad its rather funny.

I've had the same lesson at some point in church for like the past month and a half.
Seriously.

I'm not even exaggerating.
It was first a talk in church.
Then a subject in relief society.
Then the Stake President spoke on it.
Then it was a Relief Society/ Priesthood combined lesson.
And another subject in like Sunday School.
And again.
Today.

I got the subject again. In relief Society.

Its so sad its funny.

Because I was telling others.
That even if I went to a different ward.
I would still manage to go to a ward that was giving the same lesson.

Guess what happened?
I went to my parents ward.

And got the lesson in relief society.
*sighs*
Apparently there is something that needs to get through to me that isn't....

Really though,
Giving me the same lesson multiple times in a row is NOT Helpful.
I don't like repetition. I like variety.

The one good side to getting it in my parents ward though.
Is that before hand, my Dad was in charge of the Sunday School lesson.
And he has a knack for giving us a spiritual high.
Really, its something I've been missing in my current ward.

The ward...has been a struggle to go to because I feel like they just focus on the negatives. Dragging me down when I really just want to be lifted up and spiritually edified.

And my Dad's lesson provided that. ^^ Which was great.
Because it made the repetitive lesson that followed more easy to bare.
I was able to listen with more of an open heart/mind.
Because I'd been uplifted. I'd been able to consider the lesson with more focus. Which allowed more spiritual learning.

Something I probably wouldn't have gotten in my own ward had I gone to that one.
*sighs*
Well... maybe this upcoming Sunday will be better.....

At least I had a good high this past sunday. ^^

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Why We Met Up

It was supposed to have a been a quick lunch out with my sister.
We were meeting at the local Farmer's Market to scope out and see if they had any Navajo Tacos, as she'd seen them there a couple of weeks ago, but they'd not been there last week.
So I thought, why not try again and see if they're there.
They were.
so we met up and had lunch there.
^^
So delicious.

In any case.
We decided to go to a couple other places afterwards.
And while we were driving to return to my car...

Her car started flashing lights on the dashboard.
Odd acronymns like TBC and ABS or something.
Flashed.
Disappeared.
Flashed
Disappeared.
And then turned on and stayed on.

Not a good thing.
It was random.
So I googled it on my phone.
Found out it was stuff that helped to keep the brakes from locking up.
and the flashing light...meant that that wasn't working.
Or it could have been a simple glitch from a loose wire.

Which meant.
Yes go find a mechanic right away.
But as we were going to pick up my car,
The brakes started seizing up.
Jerking us as we drove.

The brake lights came on.
Another light came on.

Basically, news to get off the busy main street and find a side road.
Thankfully.
Because I'd had trouble finding parking for the popular farmer's market earlier, I'd had to park on a side street.
So we pulled in a couple of cars behind me.
In order to figure out where we could go to get her car fixed.
Her car started seizing while we were there just with her foot on the brake. So she turned it off. While we figured out what to do.
But as we were doing that,
this car pulled up behind us, and backed into the driveway right there.
We were worried we were in their way, so Kikay went to turn on her car to move forward.

It wouldn't start.
Dead.
Completely Dead.

After calling a few people to figure out what to do, we decided to use my car to jump her car.
Which we did.
about that point we were doing that the two gentlemen from the house we were parked in front of came out.
To help us out.
They told us a location of a mechanic.
Took the wires off the battery.
I started to pull away.
And her car died.
So I returned to charge the battery for a little while longer.
This time the guys offered to follow behind us, to try and get to a closer mechanic than the one they had recommended.
We made it maybe a block down the street, before everything electrical in her car stopped working, and the car died soon after.

At this point, the older man of the two said that he had a battery charger thing he could pull out if we wanted to push the car to his driveway, it would take maybe an hour to give the battery a full charge where we then could get it to a different auto place even closer to us (which considering how quickly her car was dying...was a good thing.)
So we pushed the car back to the driveway.
And chatted with the two guys for a while before we managed to actually drive the 800 very tense yards. To a parts store.
Where the people there were able to test the Battery and determined...that yes it was going downhill, but the cause of Kikay's problem was actually the Alternator. Which was completely shot.
We were running totally on battery power,
and that wouldn't last very long.
Which meant we needed to go find a Mechanic ASAP. (Kinda frustrating as I thought these guys would be able to fix the problem. Not so.) And the people there gave us a name of a mechanic that they liked that we could go to.

So we drove to a rather sketchy looking part of town down by the highway.
-It wasn't actually sketchy, but just had that look because of all the cars and such that were around the yard that needed to be fixed.

Thankfully,
The mechanic there was able to fix Kikay's car within a couple of hours!
Woot that was a surprise! A good surprise.
She got a new Battery and Alternator.
and everything is running smoothly now.

But basically.
Its a good thing that I wanted to meet up with her.
That I happened to park in front of a house that could help us.
That the car didn't die on us until we were at our car.
That the Mechanic could fix the car quickly and without much expense.

All around. Blessings. Tons and Tons of blessings.
Who knew what would have happened had we not met up today, or where Kikay could have gotten stranded or when it would have happened.

Yay for blessings!

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!
