I had to give my new Roommate the Cup Talk today.
Why?
Because she likes to have a cleaner kitchen then has recently been kept by me and the other roommate.
...Yah....another clean freak in the works it appears.
Unless me and the other roommate manage to make her relax about the whole thing.
Which I don't know how likely that will be as for her, a clean apartment means less stress, while for me and my other roommate...a clean apartment means more stress...
So we're going to have to find a happy medium somewhere in there.
Starting with the Cup Talk.
It's a very simple talk.
I have a cup I use to drink out of.
All the roommate has to do is:
Not.
Touch.
It.
I don't care if they move my other dishes around, clean them, put them in the sink.
It doesn't matter.
But this particular cup that I use throughout the day.
Do.
Not.
Move.
Do.
Not.
Touch.
It stays where it stays.
Do so and I'm happy.
Move it and you'll get a rather annoyed Sarnic.
My roommate was less than enthusiastic about the cup talk.
"I like to have the counters clea--"
"And I like to have One. Cup. On the counter. I don't care what you do with the other dishes, this does not move."
"Well...so long as it has a designated spot."
I gesture to the counter space in front of the fridge. "It will be somewhere here."
"But...don't you want to rinse out the juice on the bottom of the cup, I could clean it out for you---"
"Do. Not. Touch. My. Cup."
It's a simple rule.
I will clean it when I clean it.
You do not need to clean it for me.
My cup.
Do not move.
Do not touch.
Simple.
I don't need things constantly washed.
Its too much wasted effort in my opinion.
Its worked for me.
It will still work for me in the future.
Don't touch the cup.
And I'm good.
Its a small thing to ask.
And therefore.
The Cup Talk came to pass.
I'll probably have to give it again when the fourth roommate moves in.
But for now.
We're all on the same page in that regards. :)
Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!
