You Okay?

It's weird....weird when people are observant.
I mean...I'm used to kinda sensing how people are feeling, being aware of if they're in a good mood or not, or if they're not feeling well. It's kinda an energy/aura/bubble thing.
But it's so weird when people do it to me.

Because I don't expect them to be able to.
I don't always show the emotions I'm feeling.
Especially at work.
I try to stay on the more...happy side? I mean, it's customer service all day, so you have to put on a mask of a "can I help you" sort of personality and smile and ensure the customers are having a good time in the store etc.

But either I'm letting my 'work mask' slip a bit more...
-Which I tend to slowly do as I get comfortable in the work environment or around other employees as I get used their presence in the store.

Or else my manager is actually more observant than I gave him credit for.

You see, Friday night/Saturday Morning I had another one of those headaches. (like usual) Surprisingly it wasn't a nuclear headache. Just one that hung out before I went to bed, let me sleep, and then was present when I woke up the next morning.
So hey...at least this particular headache was considerate in letting me sleep through the night.

And I was...alright when I went into work for the dreaded "all day shift" Where I go in just before the lunch rush and stay until just before close. (I hate this shift)

The headache had left me feeling a bit shaky. Weak-kneed really. I just wanted to sit down and not do anything.
So eight hours on my feet...definitely wasn't fun.

But I was holding up the act rather well I think.
Especially because my coworker went and got me a Dr. Pepper while she was out on lunch, which was amazing in giving me just enough energy to not feel tired. So yay.

but I was checking in with a manager.
And they were suddenly like "Are you suffering from another headache again?"

-Because over the past month or so I'd been a bit more vocal on when I'm suffering with a headache.

But beyond the one coworker I hadn't mentioned it yesterday at work. *shakes head*
So it threw me off a bit. Like...How did you?
So I was like "I had one that lasted the night, but it's good now."

And he said "I could tell. I mean, you're kind seem like you're in a "don't want to listen or talk to people today" sort of mood.

Mmmm
lol. Yah, kinda. I really just didn't want to be working my work shift but overall I was alright talking with customers.
But true. Very true. The less customers I had to deal with the better in my opinion.

It's just weird.
That somehow, my manager knew that I wasn't being my usual self yesterday. Because honestly, I thought I'd been doing pretty well. *shakes head*

lol. Ah well. It was nice to have the manager showing concern at least. :)
Still weird that they asked before I told them though.
Still very weird.

The Sickness Prevention

Do you ever wonder if we have certain issues to prevent us from getting other issues?

Like...I'm not one known for getting sick.
I have coworkers and friends and roomies who will often not go to class, or call out of work because they aren't feeling well.
And it often boggles my mind that they will skip out on school/work in order to stay in bed and recover.

lol like I've mentioned before, I'm rather stubborn, so even if I'm not feeling well....responsibility usually ends up chasing me out of bed to go to school (when I was in school) or to work, even if I probably should have stayed home in bed.
Mostly because when I get sick...it's usually just an annoying head cold. Nothing I can't work around.

But others actually do get rather sick. Beyond the colds and such. Things that have them laid out in bed for days at a time.

While me...I haven't really had that?
And I've been wondering why that is the case. Why do I not get as sick as other people around me?

And I'm like...is it because I get more headaches then everyone else around me?

I mean, I'm probably known for being the person who 'has a headache' more often than not.
*shakes head* It's not something I like dealing with. Because headaches are tedious and annoying and can knock me out for quite a while especially when said aching head tends to go nuclear leaving me unrested, sore, and just weak feeling in general.

But I've been wondering the past couple of days...
Is getting a headache my version of getting sick?
Like is getting a headache my body's way of preventing myself from getting seriously sick?
Because having a headache usually requires me to lay down, relax, and not do anything.
And most of the time people get sick because they've run themselves ragged and the body cries out for rest and time to get their energy levels back to full.

So is getting constant headaches my body's way of keeping me healthier? So even though I might get knocked out for the count for the evening, it's not for days on end like other illnesses would?

*shrugs*
It's hard to say for sure.
But it's an interesting different take on why I get them so often.

I'll be watching the leaves.

The Quirks We Have

Roommates always create such interesting dynamics.
Because each one isn't the same as the previous one.

Like you could get a roommate that's super paranoid about locking the doors.
Or another who can't stand to leave dishes in the sink for more than like an hour before demanding it be cleaned.
There's also the roomies that are hardly ever home.
Or the ones that are always in the living room watching TV.

So it's like...you get used to the dynamic of one roommate, how to work around them or with them to create a more happy environment.
And then they move out, and a new one moves in.
But you're used to the old dynamic, and so you do things because the old roomie had that particular quirk you needed to work around...
Only to find that the new roomie doesn't really care. It's not a quirk for them. It's not something that gets on their nerves.

So it's always a matter of figuring out the new dynamic, how to work with them to ensure that no ill feelings develop between the two of you.

This sort of thought has been on my mind for the past couple of days.

Because I've recently acquired a new roomie.

And it's been so weird to have her not be bugged by the things the old roomies was bugged with.
If that makes sense?

But because it bugged the old roomie and I've taken care to keep that thing from bugging the old roomie, it now bugs me a little bit when the thing isn't done because I've been diligent in not letting it be an issue between us. However, the new roomie doesn't seem to care about the thing at all. So now I'm like...do I still need to be caring about this little quirk that the old roomie didn't like having to deal with, or is it something I can just let return to my normal?
*shakes head*

I have no idea.
But it is jarring a bit lol.
Not in a bad way.
It's just weird how old roomies can influence your actions to the point where you continue doing the action even after they've left.
*shakes head*

Identified

When I was recently assigned to a conference in the Mission Viejo California Stake, I was touched by an account of their four-stake New Year's Eve youth dance.
Following the dance, a purse was found with no outside identification.
I share with you part of what Sister Monica Sedgwick, the Young Women president in the Laguna Niguel stake, recorded: "We didn't want to pry; this was someone's person stuff!
So we gingerly opened it and grabbed the first thing that was on top--hopefully, it would identify her.
It did, but in another way--it was a For Strength of Youth pamphlet.
Wow!
This told us something about her.
Then we reached in for the next item, a little notebook.
Surely this would give us answers, but not the kind we were expecting.
The first page was a list of favorite scriptures.
There were five more pages of carefully written scriptures and personal notes."

The sisters immediately wanted to meet this stalwart young woman.
They returned to that purse to identify its owner.
They pulled out some breath mints, soap, lotion, and a brush.
I loved their comments: "Oh, good things come out of her mouth; she has clean and soft hands; and she takes care of herself."

They eagerly awaited the next treasure.
Out came a clever little homemade coin purse made from a cardboard juice carton, and there was some money in a zipped pocket.
They exclaimed, "Ahh, she's creative and prepared!"
They felt like little children on Christmas morning.
What they pulled out next surprised them even more: a recipe for Black Forest chocolate cake and a note to make the cake for a friend's birthday.
They almost screamed, "She's a HOMEMAKER!
Thoughtful and service minded."
Then, yes, finally some identification.
The youth leaders said they felt greatly blessed "to observe the quiet example of a young lady living the gospel."

The Finger Injuries

So I cut my finger cooking Sunday night.
Why?
Because packaging is difficult to open and blades apparently like to slip suddenly.

It was nothing too major, more like a deep paper cut than anything. It bled a bit and then a Band-Aid made it all better.

However...mentally I was stressing.
Why?

Because I have work.
And this injury was on my hand.

And the last time I injured my hand and then went to work and scrubbed tanks...
I ended up getting this major issue in my left hand/arm with the lymphnodes swelling and an infection disease taking up residence and yah...still kinda healing from that. I haven't used my left hand to scrub tanks in nearly two years because of that.

And here I was, confronted with another cooking related injury.
Though instead of being burned I was cut.
Instead of it being on my left middle finger it was on my right middle finger.

And there's came my problem.

My hand has healed now from it's year and a halfish long issue.
But I haven't yet given that hand back the responsibilities of scrubbing tanks.
Because what if?

But now.
NOW.
My right hand is injured.
The hand that Does scrub tanks.

I really didn't want another issue to pop up from doing my job.
So I've taken precautions, and spent the last couple of shifts keeping a Band-Aid over the cut and my hand out of the water so that I greatly decreased the risk of any infection taking hold. Allowing the cut to heal a bit first before I attempted anything.

Which, today I did so.
I used my right hand to clean fish tanks today.
*deep breath*

Here's to hoping that nothing comes of that. That the cut has healed enough for it not to be an issue.
:)

A Reward

It's always a bit disconcerting to walk into the store first thing in the morning. Especially on a Monday morning...after you've been away from work for the entire weekend....to have the manager come up to you and be like "Hey! I got something to tell you!"

Unfortunately my first thought will almost always be "Uh oh, what wrong now?"
Lol Because that's how it is basically every time I don't go into work for a couple of days or longer.
Something usually goes wrong somewhere and when I get back I'm kinda the one expected to figure out how to make sure the problem is no longer a problem.

Which yah, there was a slight problem in that the manager over me had neglected to receive in some paperwork over the weekend and so our inventory was showing certain animals that we sell in the negatives. So that involved me needing to track down the invoices so we could receive in the shipments and get the numbers accurate again.

But!
No.
The first thing the manager wanted to tell me was....

That I got Employee of the Month!! :D
What?!

^^
It's definitely a positive way to start out the work week lol. That's for sure. ^^

Especially because...despite what a lot of people may think.
I actually don't get Employee of the Month that often.

In the Five Years I've worked at Starsmet...this is only my third time getting employee of the month.

Which boggles some people's minds.
As really I should probably be the employee of the month at least once a year lol.
*shakes head*
Truthfully I agree.
But it seems to be an every other year sort of thing. :)

;) Gotta give all the other employees a chance to feel amazing too you know. XD lol.

So yay!
I got Employee of the Month!
It feels really good actually.
To feel like my hard work is being appreciated. ^^

April 2016 General Conference -Sunday Morning

Thomas S. Monson -Choices
  • It has been said that the door of history turns on small hinges, and so do people's lives.
  • The choices we make determine our destiny.
  • If you do not know where you want to go, it doesn't matter which path you take.
  • May we choose to build up within ourselves a great and powerful faith which will be our most effective defense against the designs of the adversary--a real faith, the kind of faith which will sustain us and will bolster our desire to choose the right.
  • May we maintain the courage to defy the consensus. May we ever choose the harder right instead of the easier wrong.
  • As we contemplate the decisions we make in our lives each day--whether to make this choice or that choice--if we choose Christ, we will have made the correct choice.
Bonnie L. Oscarson -Do I Believe?
  • Do we sometimes become so accustomed to the blessings we have been given ... that we fal to fully comprehend the miracle?
W. Christopher Waddell -A Pattern for Peace
  • In our journey through mortality, as glorious as our intended destination may be and as exhilarating as the journey may prove, we will all be subject to trials and sorrow along the way.
  • The dial on the wheel of sorrow eventually points to each of us. At one time or another, everyone most experience sorrow. No one is exempt.
  • Our ability to travel this road in peace is, in large part, dependent on whether or not we too have a hard time thinking about Jesus.
  • Peace of mind, peace of conscience, and peace of heart are not determined by our ability to avoid trials, sorrow, or heartache.
  • Truth is found in the simplicity of a Primary song: "Words of a prophet: Keep the commandments. In this there is safety and peace."
  • However far we may wander from the path, the Savior invites us to return and walk with Him.
D. Todd Christofferson -Fathers
  • We believe in fathers. We believe in "the ideal of the man who puts his family first."
  • We believe that far from being superfluous, fathers are unique and irreplaceable.
  • The key for men is to be fathers. The key for children is to have fathers. The key for society is to create fathers.
  • For men, fatherhood exposes us to our own weaknesses and our need to improve.
  • Fatherhood requires sacrifice, but it is a source of incomparable satisfaction, even joy.
  • The Lord expects fathers to help shape their children, and children want and need a model.
  • Discipline in the divine pattern is not so much about punishing as it is about helping a loved one along the path of self-mastery.
  • Work and family are overlapping domains.
  • It should be noted that God Himself entrusted His Only Begotten Son to a foster father. Surely some of the credit goes to Joseph for the fact that as Jesus grew. He "increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man."
  • Despite our limitations, let us press on.
Quentin L. Cook -See Yourself in the Temple
  • We are all equal before God.
Dieter F. Uchtdorf -He Will Place You on His Shoulders and Carry You Home
  • If man can take the ruins, rubble, and remains of a broken city and rebuild an awe-inspiring structure that rises toward the heavens, how much more capable is our Almighty Father to restore His children who have fallen, struggled, or become lost?
  • There is no life so shattered that it cannot be restored.
  • God is fully aware of those who are lost--and that He will find them, that He will reach out to them, and that He will rescue them?
  • It matters not how you became lost--whether because of your own poor choices or because of circumstances beyond your control.
  • What matters is that you are His child. And He loves you. He loves His children.
  • Because He loves you, He will find you.
  • If you cannot muster faith right now, begin with hope.
  • If our faith does not change the way we live--if our beliefs do not influence our daily decisions--our religion is vain, and our faith, if not dead, is certainly not well and is in danger of eventually flatlining.
  • Obedience is the lifeblood of faith. It is by obedience that we gather light into our souls.
  • Obedience is not so much the process of bending, twisting, and pounding our souls into something we are not. Instead, it is the process by which we discover what we truly are made of.
  • The love of God fills our hearts, the light of truth fills our minds, we start to lose the desire to sin, and we do not want to walk any longer in darkness.
  • Obedience isn't a punishment but a liberating path to our divine destiny.
