It Keeps Changing

There's always that concept of nothing changes.
Traditions will always remain the same traditions.
Even though you know there's this 'nebulous' change that will happen as you get older.
As your siblings get married.
As they have their own kids.

Traditions have to change and alter to adjust for the new family dynamics forming.

But it's always seemed like this sort of event was always in the nebulous future.
Somewhere sometime distant...things would alter.
But not yet.
Not this year.

However.
It was this year.

As our tradition was usually to open christmas presents first thing in the morning.
Like 6 or 7 am we'd be up and ready to open presents starting with the stockings and such.

But this year.
Since both my siblings have inlaws to visit.
That ended up changing.

My siblings went to see the in laws first. And open presents there first.
Which meant that Daddoo and I would have to wait until they were done in order to open presents from everyone.

It was kinda weird to start opening presents at like...1130.
And to not get done until like 1pm.

It feels like the day ended far sooner than it should have because of that lol.
Because we weren't opening presents as early in the day.

I mean the past handful of years we'd been opening presents in the later morning. Like around 8 or 9 instead of 6ish.

But still.
Weird to start presents so late in the morning.
Especially when you see so many people already done lol.

However, I can see how that will become the norm really.
A glimpse into the future.

Where the siblings and I are all married, with our own kids.
And celebrating Christmas with our spouses and kids first.
Then heading off to Daddoo's home in the afternoon or evening to exchange gifts and open them there.

It's weird to think.
I mean it's just been our core family for so long.
That it's weird to realize that soon enough we'll be meeting at Daddoo's for the evening instead of the morning.
That we'll only be hanging out for a little bit instead of the entire day.
That we'll have our own family traditions starting with our own spouse and kids.

It's weird.
So weird to think about.

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!
