The Road to a Job

Summer was ending.
But the stress was building.
Until one day it hit a breaking point.
A phone call of concern in the morning
had me basically in tears for the rest of the day.
For it was the last straw in my barely held together composure.
I didn't know what to do.
I was stressed out to wits end.
Money. Bills. Responsibilities. Expectations. Self Confidence.
It got to me.

But...with a phone call for help.
A willing drive.
and a weekend away from collegetown
and doing some hard tiring work
helped to restore me a bit.

Things though...didn't seem to start rolling until I got a father's blessing for the 'school year.'
Though I didn't have school it is custom to have my dad give us all blessings for the coming year.
I don't remember much.
But the key thing that stuck out to me was "Be Anxiously Engaged."

It stuck out to me because that was our Institute's Kikay's first year here with me in Collegetown.
So I was like "Huh. I should go to institute!"
Though...I doubted myself because...well....I didn't really see how that would help and I might have misinterpreted the meaning.
But I basically took it as a sign that I should....go ahead and play at being a 'pseudostudent'
Basically I would come up with a schedule that would have me out and about around people at the school.

I was hesitant to act upon it thought. This thought to sign up for institute.
because I don't like making a commitment and then having to back out or choose between the first plan and the new plan.
So I told myself that I would sign up the Saturday before school started.
Yet, earlier in the week... a day or two after my dad's blessing...
I confided my thoughts to Kikay about signing up for institute.
I had looked online and seen what classes were being taught when and had already picked out the ones I wanted.
So Kim told me "Why don't you sign up now? I hear they're closing classes when they get full."

lol Of course panic set in
()_() WHAT!?! THEY'RE CLOSING CLASSES OH NO!
So her words needless to say spurred me into signing up for classes days earlier then I was planning on.
Ha and I had the thought "Watch I sign up for classes and presto! Instant call for a job offering!"
;) See my sarcasm, but I half believed it too lol.
I mean its pretty typical that when I make my plans....other plans come up. So I was hoping that this would be no different.

:D
It wasn't. ^^
That Friday afternoon. The Friday before school started. I got a call.
I was a bit hesitant to answer the phone....
as I'd been getting calls from numbers I didn't recognize....but they hadn't been job offers.
Plus I was in the middle of a meeting.
But I took a chance and answered the phone.
"Hello?"
"Hey is this Sarnic?"
"Yes."
"Hey this is Toc from Starsmet you turned in an application at the end of last month are you still available for a job interview?"
*ahem* Excuse me while I pick up my mouth from the ground.
"Uh...yah! yah" (Processing and trying to figure out what he was saying...as I was trying to think what applications I'd put in at the end of last month since I didn't hear the name right away."
lol I wonder if Toc thought I was a ditz...I was just so surprised that it actually was a call for a job interview.
In any case I got an interview for the next day in the afternoon.

hehe I was pretty hyper after that.
I was in the middle of being critiqued as well.
But I couldn't let the critiques get me down.
JOB INTERVIEW JOB INTERVIEW!!!! WEEEEEE!!! lol

On the other hand.... I was trying not to think too much about it...as I didn't want to stress myself out to the headache point about this first interview of mine.
I mean....what sort of questions do they ask in interviews?!? I couldn't think. Couldn't remember the mock interviews I did in like 9th grade.
So I tried to think of it as a 'first test' concept.

The first test concept is this:
It's the first test that your teacher gives you of the semester. In most cases you haven't had this teacher before, so you don't know what their testing style is like. They can tell you what they expect and the style of testing (abc/essay/tf/fillintheblank) but until that first test the teacher gives you....you really don't know how/what you need to study.
At least it's that way for me.
So I went to the interview with that thought in mind. It's a first test. This is to see how they ask questions and what sort of questions they ask.
Though I did do some research on Starsmet just in case they asked me questions about the company...I mean they could right? :)
I at least needed to know enough about Starsmet to answer the "Why do you think we should hire you question."

It got harder the closer to my interview it got....Idk who's idea it was to do an interview in the afternoon...I mean it's like 1:30 church on a Fast Sunday...you can't eat until after the block... lol :) meaning I couldn't relax til after the interview.
So for added comfort I read my conference talks and said a prayer right before I left that I would have a calm heart and a clear mind.
And off I went.
I met up with Toc after wading my way through the throngs of people. Whew. Busy busy.
Sat down and talked with him.
Making sure that I kept my feet/legs uncrossed and my hands in my lap but not folded.
-that's hard for me.
But I made the conscious effort to appear open.
I was kinda thinking of my internship a year ago actually :) How to present myself in a confident manner.
In any case we got through the interview and Toc said. "Well I have Reth here as well. Let me get you an interview with her while you're here."
-Reth would be the manager in charge of me for the position I'm in. Toc is like vp bossman. :)

A flutter of hope quickly shuttered.
Two interviews in one day?!
Well that means I passed the first test right?
Confidence is growing.
Plus I'm now on the second test! Second interview second test.
Which means some questions will be the same and then there will be new ones more specific to the job I applied for as she is the manager over me.
That meant I had a moment to think over my answers again.
Though mostly...i just said whatever came to mind first lol.

I liked Reth alot. She and I connected a bit during the interview process :)
My favorite random question she asked was "Can you do dishes?"
"Yes."
"Like, by hand."
O.o "yes. I don't like it but I'm willing to and know how to do it." lol -after all I didn't grow up with a dishwasher in the house.
Funny....that's the one chore I avoided as much as possible....and its a chore I'll have to do alot here at Starsmet.

My other favorite part was when she asked "Do you have any questions for me?"
...obviously I avoided the "How much money will I make" questions.
So I went for something more store related. "What's your favorite part about working here?"
followed up by "Oh, which one is your favorite?"
She was like "wow...these are really hard questions...I'm used to asking these types of questions but I haven't really thought about it."
lol ^^;;
It was fun, and I was a bit more relaxed with Reth.
Though of course there's always that "Ugh! I should have said this instead" moment after the interview was over.
But.
I must have done something right.
Why?
Because I got another interview!
This one set for Monday morning in the am before the store even opened.
The first day of school.
Dun dun dun.
I had actually forgotten that it was the first day of school because....well I'm not 'offically' a student anymore. I just signed up for institute classes :)
In any case.
this interview was with the boss man. Dun dun dun.
Cinres.
So monday morning came.
I got up.
Did my read the conference talks and pray like crazy routine and went to the interview.
Again. similar questions asked by Cinres the bossman
It was the Third test.
lol I think my favorite answer was when I was able to use the store's motto to help me say why I wanted to work here and why I thought why I would be a good empolyee.

And then he said the magic words. "How would you feel if I paid you this much an hour?"
()_() We're talking about money? OOOO.
"You said you can work these hours."
"Yes."
and there it was.
I was in the system!

I had done it!
Passed!
I had gotten a job!! ^^
Ooo the excitement.

First day of school and I had gotten a job!
But first....a fourth test.
The drug test.
Which I had 24 hours to take and a 48 hr to 2 week period to wait for the results.

I went to my institute classes first before the drug test.
lol I shouldn't have any reason to worry about the drug test.
But theres this paranoid side of me where it's like "Oh no I took Advil last night and what if its in my system still and causes me to fail the test?!?! The horror!" ;) I wasn't going to take anything for granted that I would pass...even though i would pass. :)

And I did :)
So I came back in a couple of days later.
Got all the paper work government stuff done.
And walla!
I have a job!!!
^^

It's so exciting and nerve wracking and I keep telling myself that its like a new way of going to school....or like my internship only different lol :)
I just keep finding comparisons to things I already know so I don't feel totally out of my depth. :)
It seems to be working.

And you want to know what the most exciting thing was?

lol.

That I had brown shoes...and I thought to myself. Self I need to get some khaki pants the tan colored ones to match those brown shoes.
Since I've had those brown shoes on my first day of college...and wore them like once maybe twice never to wear them again so they're in like mint condition. And it would save me from having to buy black shoes...use what I have right? lol :)
So I got myself some tan colored pants and a collared black shirt.
Went to the job interview and realized.

I was wearing basically their uniform. (this connects to my color thoughts post a few posts ago)
^^;;

It's just rather....a blessing I suppose. That subconsciously I was picking out work clothes...that would work for the place I would end up getting a job at.
It's a sign.
Sarnic WORK HERE!

haha ^^

I feel so blessed right now. :)
It is very true. The darkest hour comes just before the dawn.

But I also think it's super true that if you put the Lord first, he will provide a way.

If I hadn't gotten a father's blessing where the priesthood was used.....would I have got the job?
If I hadn't signed up for institute.... would I have got the job?
If I hadn't chosen to read conference talks before my interviews to get the spirit and calm myself... would I have got the job.
I I hadn't prayed...would I have got the job.

I really don't know.
But I feel strongly that because I did make the effort. I was blessed for it.
And I'm really grateful for the blessing of this job as it takes weight off my shoulders that has been hanging around all summer.

I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Gee, I Wish....

Choices. They surround us everyday. And yet, in many cases the choice is easy. You want to do this. You want to do that. But then there are days where you think....which is more important? As well as...which one is more fun? Or even maybe...should I be responsible? Depending on the option and what you deem to be the top reasoning factor....well the choice is made. :)
Take for example this conference talk :)

On a Saturday night in a ranch home kitchen, where a boy who has just answered the telephone nervously approaches his mother with a question: "Mom," he says, "Bob is on the phone. He and his dad and Tom and his dad are going snowmobiling and shooting tomorrow morning, and they want to know if I can go with them."
The mother seems startled at the question and uncertain as she answers.
(Later, she explains that she was strongly tempted to respond sharply to her boy, reminding him that he had duties on Sunday morning, that in their family they went to church together, and that when Dad returned later that night he would not consider such a thing.)
But instead, she says to her son, "Richard, you are twelve years old. You hold the priesthood. you are president of the deacons quorum. I am sure Dad would want you to make up your own mind and answer Bob yourself."

The boy goes back to the telephone, and the mother goes to her room and prays that their son will give the right answer.
Nothing more is said about the matter, and on Sunday morning the lad and his parents go into town to church, park in the lot across the street, and are crossing, arm-in-arm, when a pickup truck passes.
Two men and two boys are in the seat, snowmobiles in the truck bed, guns slung in the rear window.
The boys wave to Richard as they pass.
He pauses a moment and says, "Gee, I wish..." The mother catches her breath a bit, and then Richard finishes: "Gee, I wish I had been able to talk Bob and Tom into coming to priesthood meeting this morning."

The mother, telling the story, thanks the Lord for this choice lad and his personal decision to do the right thing.
And then she weeps freely as she explains how important that was to all of them.
You see, their son was killed in a farm accident that week.

I Forgot To Eat Today

Reading.
It's a wonderful pass time isn't it?
:) lol some days I wonder why I ever go through my lull periods and don't pick up a book for months and months.
Because when I come back to reading....
I just forget to do anything else :)
I can get so caught up in the stories that I forget to eat.
^^;;
Forget to do anything really.
My attention is on the book.
On the goal of reading to the end.
To find out what happens.
After all....
I'm into mysteries
and what is any book but a big mystery?
Sure the plots could be predictable.
but unless you've read the book before (like I'm doing at the moment)
You don't know what is going to happen.
And unlike with tv shows....
I have no temptation to read ahead, or check online for information.
But like tv shows or ....information you've read ahead of time.
Re reading a book isn't that bad either.
As its like visiting an old friend.
Remembering some events clearly,
but being taken by surprise again by things you've forgotten.
It's alot of fun.
And always a mystery ;)

Back to the book!!! :D

The Dream

there was a battle going on between two rival schools...blue and red....but it was like the students were part of the same school...they just chose to wear different colors....or it was more like the town was divided in half some with blue and some with red but everyone went to one school. So it was a bit...crazy trying to stay on my side while every one seemed to be after me....

Then the unholy tones of daylight pulled me away....
and I became myself again. :)

Give Me Your Heads!

In the words of Wreck it Ralph:
"When did games get so violent?"

The other night I was exposed to a new board game.
It's called "Shootin Ladders" or something like that.
The premise of the game?
The gingerbread men from Candy Land have escaped their game and have taken over the board game Shoots and Ladders.
Your goal? To be the last man standing.
Every player has a gingerbread man that moves within the boundaries of the Shoots&Ladders game. Along the way you can pick up ammo, gear, and weapons in which you use to attack the other gingerbread on the board -by rolling the dice.
You roll the dice to move and also to find out which part of the body you attack.
Each die has different candies on it which represent the legs, arms, chest, and head.
If one part gets hit three times -say the left leg- then the opponent who hit you gets to tear away the paper ginger bread man's left leg in your position.
Once all of your pieces -legs, arms, chest, and head are gone you loose and the person who takes your last piece gets everything you had gear/ammo/weapons.
The last player on the board wins the game. :)

Apparently there are other ways to play. Like Capture the Flag. Or Heads (where you try and collect the most ginger bread heads), or Free for all (what I played) There are many variations.

In the end... I won the game. :)
Heh...some days its helpful to be the quiet one as people tend to forget that you're also playing. ;) lol

Still I have to wonder....why are games getting so violent?
I mean the relatively peaceful game of Shoots and Ladders has been morphed into a warzone for gingerbread men.
Strange. So strange.

I'll be watching the leaves.

The Dream

Kikay and I were going from apartment complex to apartment complex as she was searching for a new place to live. We were along a 'beach' font with water and sand, but the water even though it had waves was just like a big pond with a small island in it. We went into various apartments/ sorities but Kikay was unhappy with most of them. We went into one apartment that was full of knickknacks and foreign items from different countries. The girls seemed nice enough though I wasn't that impressed with the situation, Kikay seemed like she was wanting to go live there when her contract was up. I climbed up to a balcony area in the apartment and found a kitten there. I was stroking it and the director liked what he was seeing and wanted me to continue petting the kitten while he filmed it. It was a bit odd that I was suddenly in the movie. Things weren't all sunshine and daisies as I was under a 'contract' and had to do what I was told to do. It seemed like i was being made to do the movie against my will when...

the unholy tones of daylight pulled me away....
and I became myself again. :)

April 1991 General Conference Saturday Afternoon

Ah. Labor Day. A day without work. A day to rest for most of us, and what could be more relaxing then reading some conference talks? Or at least a few highlights from them. :)

Wilford G. Edling -The Church Audit Committee Report

Russell M. Nelson -Listen to Learn
  • Learn to listen, then listen to learn.
  • "I do a greater amount of good when I listen to my children than when I talk to them."
  • To rule children by force is the technique of Satan, not of the Savior. No, we don't own our children. Our parental privilege is to love them, to lead them, and to let them go.
  • The time to listen is when someone needs to be heard.
  • Parents with teenage youth may find that time for listening is often less convenient but more important when young people feel lonely or troubled. And when they seem to deserve favor least, they may need it most.
  • Children honor your parents, even when they cannot give a satisfactory explanation for their feelings.
  • Even with normal hearing, some couples seem not to listen to one another. Taking time to talk is essential to keep lines of communication intact.
  • Gratefully we thank God for a prophet to guide us in these later days. But many turn a deaf ear to his teachings, oblivious to his prophetic position.
  • "We do not lack a prophet; what we lack is a listening ear."
  • "It would not hurt us, either, if we paused at the end of our prayers to do some intense listening--even for a moment or two."
  • Of course the greatest trial I have is that I cannot her, but I have so many blessings I cannot complain.
  • Carefully listen to learn from the Lord through the still small voice--the Holy Spirit-- which leads to truth. Listen to learn by studying scriptures that record His holy mind and will. Listen to learn in prayer, for He will answer the humble who truly seek Him.
Earl C. Tingey -Redemption of the Dead
  • "When the servants of the Lord determine to do as He commands, we move ahead. As we proceed, we are joined at the crossroads by those who have been prepared to help us."
  •  "It is as though someone knew we would be traveling that way. We see the invisible hand of the Almighty providing for us."
  • Yes, the invisible hand of the Almighty is providing for us, and we should live and act to merit a continuation of His help and blessings.
Rulon G. Craven -Prophets
  • The members of the Twelve strive to live according to the promptings of the Spirit. They speak their mind. However, they are also good listeners and speak when moved upon by the Holy Spirit.
  • These men, from my close observation, live close to the Lord.
W. Mack Lawrence -Sunday Worship Service
  • I hope that each person who attends will be welcomed at the door.
  • We should feel wanted, valued, and accepted at these meetings. No one should feel like a stranger.
  • There are many ways to find joy in sacrament meetings.
  • First, come with an attitude of worshipping the Lord.
  • Number two, teach your children the significance of the worship service.
  • "Little children do have words given to them many times, which confound the wise and the learned." They can be very sensitive to the Spirit.
  • Number three, sing enthusiastic praises to God.
  • Number four, when you speak to the congregation, include scriptural references, your testimony, and the Savior in your talk.
  • Don't be afraid to include your personal feelings about the Savior, his gospel, and instances when you've felt the Spirit.
  • We should not feel pressured to say things that do not truthfully express our experiences. We should not be ashamed of what we do know, whatever stage our testimony may be in. Share it with others.
  • And finally, remember the Savior as you partake of the sacrament.
Francis M. Gibbons -The Savior and Joseph Smith--Alike Yet Unlike
  • While we honor and revere Joseph Smith as the Prophet of the Restoration and seek to emulate his qualities of character, we adore and worship the Savior. That adoration is shown at each sacrament service when we covenant to take upon us the name of Jesus Christ, to always remember him, and to keep the commandments which he has given to us, that we may always have his Spirit to be with us.
Richard G. Scott -Making the Right Decisions
  • I realize that as with watches, there are differences in youth. Some need to be wound up, while others are automatic because of important decisions already made.
  • I commend you who are automatic, who have committed to be true to the Lord and to live by faith when you cannot see the end from the beginning. When faced with choices, you select the path consistent with the teachings of the Savior. I know you are sometimes criticized by those who call you fanatical, who cannot understand why you don't do what the crowd does. Hold fast to your principles.
  • Your quiet, uncompromising determination to live a righteous life will couple you to inspiration and power beyond your capacity now to understand.
  • The first principle: Place the Savior, His teachings, and His church at the center of your life. Make sure that all decisions comply with this standard.
  • Upward growth occurs in cycles that build upon each other in an ascending spiral of capacity and understanding. They are often not easy, but they are always beneficial. As you walk the paths of righteousness, you will grow in strength, understanding, and self-esteem. you will discover hidden talents and unknown capacities. The whole course of your life may be altered for your happiness and the Lord's purposes.
  • The next principle: Recognize that enduring happiness comes from what you are, not from what you have.
  • When the things that you acquire are used as tools to help others, they won't rule your life.
  • And now the last principle: Stay morally clean.
  • When you find yourself in the battlefield of life, don't change your standards; don't abandon them no matter how you feel, no matter what pressure is applied.
  • Love, is defined by the Lord, elevates, protects, respects, and enriches another. it motivates one to make sacrifices for another.
  • Be surrounded by true friends who accept you the way you are and leave you better because of their association.
  • Consistently live the truth you already know.
  • You will learn that the restraints provided by the teachings of the Lord actually form a platform to greater freedom. If they are hurriedly dismantled in the misuse of increased personal choice, there will result binding chains of transgression.
  • Go to your Father in Heaven. He wants to help you, but because of your agency you need to take the first step.
  • When all the challenges pour down on you, you will have a quiet inner feeling of support. You will be prompted to know what to do. You can live in a world of turmoil and great challenge and be at peace. you will be inspired to know what to do and to have the power or capacity to do it.
  • As you live high standards publicly and privately, and even under great pressure adhere to them, you raise the vision of others, helping them realize more of their divine capacity. like a worthy magnet, you will draw others to a higher standard of life.
  • The power of your worthy example is increased as you help others caught in the web of transgression and guide them into a harbor of safety where there is parental strength and priesthood inspiration, where they can repair through repentance the strained and damaged parts of their character.
  • Many yearn to overcome transgressions that bind them to a path they really don't want. While public actions denounce any desire to change, privately they want to change but don't know where to begin. Be that saving influence in their lives. Help them.
  • We operate on light and need a constant renewal of that light. If we drift into a path where there is darkness, it can be extraordinarily difficult to come back. You will not have that challenge because you will live in the light of truth.
Joseph B. Wirthlin -Peace Within
  • In the scriptures, peace means either freedom from strife, contention, conflict, or war, or an inner calm and comfort born of the spirit that is a gift of God to all of his children, an assurance and serenity within a person's heart. The dictionary definition states that peace is a state of tranquillity or quiet, freedom from disquieting thoughts or emotions, and harmony in personal relations.
  • The value of peace within our hearts cannot be measured. When we are at peace, we can be free of worry and fear, knowing that with the Lord's help, we can do all that is expected or required of us. We can approach every day, every task, and every challenge with assurance and confidence in the outcome. We have freedom of thought and action, freedom to be happy. Even those incarcerated for lengthy periods of time as war prisoners can be at peace in their own minds. many of them have learned from their captors that they cannot deprive them of freedom to think, even when the most harsh limitations are imposed. Few, if any, blessings from God are more valuable to our spiritual health than the reward of peace within. In modern-day revelation the Savior said, "But learn that he who doeth the works of righteousness shall receive his reward, even peace in this world, and eternal life in the world to come."
  • Despite dismal conditions and in the world and the personal challenges that come into every life, peace within can be a reality.
  • "These things I have spoken  unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."
  • No man is at peace with himself or his God who is untrue to his better self.
  • "Like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest. ... there is no peace, saith ... God, to the wicked." If we damage or violate our conscience by ignoring it, we can lose that gift because we no longer are sensitive to it. We will be beyond feeling, beyond the influence of that Spirit.
  • One habit that prevents inner peace is procrastination. It clutters our minds with unfinished business and makes us uneasy until we finish a task and get it out of the way.

A Strange Visitor

So there we were doing a game night.
When I saw some strange furry type insect walking on by.
It looked like a spider.
But a fuzz ball as well.
As I could only see the body.
The legs were so skinny.
I lost sight of the creature in the midst of the game.
As I couldn't find a glass jar quick enough before it disappeared.
But at the end of the night.
When everyone was gone.
I found a jar.
Saw the bug on the wall
And trapped a creature that looked like this:

What is this creature?
A "House Centipede"
Who woulda thunk it. :)

The Dream

I was sitting on the couch in the living room in front of the window of my neighbor's home. My cousin Steph and her daughter Cas were on the couch with me as well. We were talking about this and that but I got distracted with what was outside. The sky had gotten super black and cloudy. Like there was a big storm was hanging over us. But I wasn't as focused as that, as it looked like the mountain was on fire. It was glowing bright red and I could hear sounds like fireworks sizzling through the air. And things were sizzling through the air, sparking like a sparkler in reds. These lava colored objects came flinging from the sky into our neighborhood. One of the things landed on our neighbor Riva's front porch and basically bounced back and forth in her doorway threatening to cause fire which would be bad because her house was stocked full of paper products and it could go up in flames at any moment. One of the men...either my dad or Duane dashed over there to put the fire out as more debris landed in our yard. One huge ball of what looked to be roofing tiles landed against the bushes of the red brick home we were in and started a fire that needed to be put out as well. Cousin Stephanie was in a panic because her husband Aaron had taken their little boy down the street to watch all the action and she thought that they were in danger. The 'storm' passed quickly enough and we all ventured outside to see the damage. Wires wrapped in rocks were found in the trailer between the neighbors and my parents home. A couple of the lamp posts outside our yard had been totally severed by the debris and fallen to the pavement. Throughout the whole incident I was trying to figure out why it had happened. Everything looked like what a volcano would toss out of its exploding top, (but looked like pieces of homes) but there were no volcanoes nearby. I also had the thought that maybe Mom was right when she said years ago that all the homes on the hill above us were going to burn, yet when I looked up to those hills there was nothing out of place. It looked like the homes hadn't been touched. I got distracted though as another danger faced us. Attacks. But it was like a game as well where you were the werewolf and you needed to attack as many people as you could to keep them safe and alive. If you didn't many people would die. So I ran about scratching people so that would live, but I ended up becoming a target of some government organization. I was walking on rollers with saws on them that were chopping wood trying to not get chopped. I asked if I could come down repeatedly but the boss guys kept telling me no. Finally I ignored them and jumped away from the blades and ran. I grabbed a couple of guys clothes and rushed into a guys bathroom a few hallways away...with a guy in there but he was in a stall so I took a different stall and changed my clothes and made my appearance look more boyish. I had short red hair that I covered with a cap and wore a heavy green jacket. I met up with Freddy and a couple of my other friends to go to our classes where I chose to sit in the back where I wouldn't be recognized as easily though it was difficult to find a seat as many of them were mashed together so you would have to climb over others to get to your seat. Freddy was suspicious of me as I didn't look exactly like our old elementary friend John, but there wasn't much I could do. After class ended I took off running to lose the guys who were after me. I skidded into my bedroom grabbing what I could in preparation to leave our home and it was difficult to decide what I needed to take with me and if our house was destroyed what I wouldn't mind leaving behind. I had already packed a bunch of stuff into my small green bag earlier so I was wandering around my room checking to see if I missed anything. I grabbed up my green cased scriptures, a couple other odds and ends and while I was rearranging the stuffed animals on my bed and on the floor picked up the small stuffed Dalmatian I had named Lucky which also had a smaller stuffed animal attached to his collar. I put them in my arms and stared wistfully at the rest of the stuffed animals as I wish I had room to take them all when...

the unholy tones of daylight pulled me away....

I Was Just Thinking Of You

You haven't talked to them in forever.
Months.
Maybe years.
And yet....one day they pop into your thoughts and you wonder what they've been up to.
Later on in the day you're just walking along and happen to glance towards a person.
You stop in surprise.
It's them!
They're right there. No warning at all. They're just there.

So there I was.
Walking to school.
And I just had this random thought.
"Hey....Elise would sometimes stop and pick me up and drive me to school before she went on her mission...huh I wonder when she'll get back."

Later on that day I was heading out of the institute building to run some errands.
And there she was.
Chatting with another in the hallway.
I was like "Hey! You're back! I was just thinking about you on my walk to school!"
lol we had a nice conversation and went our way.

Then...the other day.
I was again hanging out at the institute.
And I happened to look up
And see Bro Kauff walking by.

You don't see that everyday...mostly because he's teaching across the country now.
And I hadn't seen him for a year.
-lol back a year ago I had had the thought "I wonder if Bro Kauff is doing okay." And there he was in the hallway. :)
This time around...it was opposite.
He told me that as he walked into the building he thought of me and thought that seeing me would be a 'slim to none chance'
And there I was. :D hehe ^^

It was super cool because I could have missed him.
As there was a luncheon going on and I had been invited to go into eat and meet people there.
But I had misheard and thought only five people could go in, and there were six of us.
So I hung back as I'd gone to the luncheons before, so I was giving the others a chance to eat.
Returning to my comfy chair I happened to glance to my right like five minutes later and there he was! :)
To think...if I had gone into the luncheon I may not have seen him.
He was around for a bit...but I think the chances would have been 'slim to none' if I'd gone into the luncheon when I did.

Do you think that if you randomly think of a person that you haven't seen or talked to in a while that its a hint... "Hey you're going to see this person today."
I think it is.
As I've heard of other people saying that they also had thoughts of people...and then seeing them.
And if you don't want to see that person...perhaps its like an advanced warning system.
So that if you don't want to encounter the person you randomly just thought about...perhaps you need to go elsewhere, or stay where you were....
Who knows.
Twas an interesting thought though. :)

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

The Dream

I walked into my bedroom and saw a faint figure on the bed that looked like Woody from toy story. I reached down to touch this ghostly figure and it disappeared. Thinking it was strange, I saw another woman like figure on the bed but she too disappeared. Totally freaked out I left my bedroom, but before closing the door I looked back at my bed at the Woody doll ghost was there again. I crossed the hall to my mom's room in our old trailer and was going to tell her what I'd seen but there was something hanging from the ceiling. She was sitting there cross stitching and the thing was distracting me. the creature was a tiny bat. It was cream colored and puny like the size of a large spider, which I thought it was at first because it was hanging from the ceiling by one clawed foot on a sticky stretchy string like those sticky hand toys kids play with. I grabbed the bat snapping its connection with the string. My mom freaked out when she saw it wondering if it had landed in her hair. I held the creature in my hands thinking it was actually rather cute. The animal was weak but I was trying to convince it to fly when my dad came into the room and took it from me. He walked over to the fish tank in the aquarium and dropped the bat now turned into a fish inside. I reached into the tank to get it out and suddenly it was like I was playing a game where I had to catch the fish in the tank and toss them out of it so that they could be eaten. I needed to get all the fish out of the tank to win. I was finding it to be a bit easy to do this so I went over to a different tank and pulled out a mini tiger fish that looked like a plecausomous and put it into my tank as more of a challenge because I could get bitten. I played with the tiger shark for a while stroking its back as it swam by to get it to trust me. I also caught a couple more of the other fish with my hands before finally grabbing the tiger shark. I had gathered quite an audience at this time and many of the people were unhappy that I caught the tiger. They thought it should stay in the tank. There was one particular woman who didn't want the shark to die and listed various reasons why, but I kept thinking to myself that it was going to die anyway, though I did have second thoughts myself about what I was doing. The party ended without a clear idea of what I'd done with the tiger shark. Most of my extended family was still around and they were talking about having a family BBQ. We had pulled into the parking lot of a tire shop (a bike shop in real life) outside of Kmart so that we could discuss plans on where to go for the BBQ. I was sitting in the back seat of the trailblazer with a girl that kinda looked like Fluffy/Mandie/Laura depending on when I looked at them. I was eating jelly beans that were watermelon and bubblegum flavored. The girl saw the back on the back seat and took a few for herself offering them to the cousin sitting in front of us. She had pulled most of the purple jelly beans -grape flavored- from the bottom of the bag that my dad had given to me. I told her that next time she should ask me if she could have the jelly beans as they weren't hers to share and I didn't have many left. I heard a honk from behind us then, but didn't think much of it...but I did look back and saw a silver car trying to get into the parking lot and our trailblazer was blocking the entrance as we had pulled in and stopped out of the road. So I pulled our car in further closer to other family members with trailers so that that car could come in and do business as the tire shop. There were also a bunch of cousins that I found annoying running about from both sides of the family laughing and making a nuisance of themselves, screaming and slapping hands of the adults as they ran by. Finally we decided to have the BBQ at my parents home. We drove there arriving in bright sunshine that made everything look really green. i pulled into the left side of the driveway next to the fence that lead to the backyard. We got out and our cat Flare jumped out as well. I was looking around for the dogs as we had been gone for a long time and I was worried that they hadn't fared so well. Sadie happily came trotting out from under the trailblazer to sniff at Flare. Flare looked exactly like our previous cat Carmen and I noticed the similarities while they sniffed each other and rubbed against each other in a friendly greeting which was a surprise. It was light heartening as Sadie and Flare hadn't gotten along that well before this point. I got distracted then as my mom commented that Grandpa Dirchi was a trouble maker. I was confused because I didn't see him as a trouble maker, but others pitched in to agree saying that it was pretty obvious that whenever he would tell stories of his youth he would make himself seem like he was doing everything to help others. But the phrases that he used hinted that he had been the one 'getting into trouble' and being mischievous. Basically he would talk in such a way that if you weren't listening you would think he was a good boy, but if you listened carefully you could see that he was a trouble maker. I actually thought that it was cool that my grandpa would do mischievous things when he was younger when....

the unholy tones of daylight pulled me away....
and I became myself again. :)
