Reflected Colors

Have you ever worn a shirt that just seemed to....invigorate you?
Where you're like "Yes! This color shirt was exactly what I wanted to reflect today!"
or "This color makes me feel (insert word here. ex. Confident, relaxed, cheerful, at peace)"

I think we tend to do this on a minimal level everyday whenever we do get dressed.
"What do i want to wear today? How about this one!"

Yet some days...
I put on a shirt.
And I feel like I'm putting on a whole new person.
Whether I feel more confident or perhaps calm and peaceful.
Its usually a feeling that helps me get through the 'supposed to be stressful' day. :)
Somehow or another, its like the color of the shirt I chose to wear
helped me be a better person.
I looked through the world in a slightly different light.
Perhaps I smiled at more people.
Or I was able to give a speech easier,
Or I was more willing to help out someone
or volunteer for a task that usually I wouldn't volunteer to normally.

Whatever the case...it seems like more options...different options open up to me because of a certain color or type of shirt I chose to wear today. :)

I think that shirts can.....have the opposite effect as well.
"I'm wearing this shirt because I'm angry, because I don't want people to look at me, because I'm in mourning. because.....because....well you can fill in the next blank."
I do know that the way we dress does influence how people treat us.

Yet it seems much more noticeable when I wear a shirt that just.....feels right for today.
Things just seem to go well because of how I chose to dress. :)

Perhaps there is something to the idea of "You are what you wear."
;) okay i think the real thing is "you are what you eat" ....but I"m not talking about food at the moment ;)
You are what you wear, how you dress and act because of that style of dressing influences how people treat you.

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.

Enjoy the day!

The Dream

I was on the case, trying to solve it.
I was in a truck. In farm country.
Driving with this cowboy...who I didn't entirely trust.
We stopped by a corn field.
I was supposed to be working it.
But I had been absent.
So the son of the cowboy had been working the field all day.
Dressed in an outfit I always wear.
-It looked like Michael Jackson's Thriller costume. Red jacket and pants.
The dude didn't look too similar to me.
He had darker skin and black hair in an Afro styling.
But it was similar enough to me that from far away he could pass as me.
Anyway. He wanted to come help me out.
But we had a problem...I still needed to have an 'alibi' be there working the field when I wasn't.
Soo....the man from bicentennial man. He had shiny blue/silver metallic skin. Dressed up in crazy black hair and red clothes and waved the three of us off with a big grin.

We came to another house...and start poking around.
And then....I started getting shot at.
nothing hit me.
I don't think the guns had actual bullets.
but we had a merry chase around the farm there.

Until the unholy tones of daylight pulled me away....
and I became myself again.

And that
is why the fox never came home. :)

Hyper Hazy Focus

I had one of those headaches last night.
Where I knew that it didn't matter when I went to bed.
I would be waking up in the middle of the night
with my head aching worse.
I was right.
In the fact that I did end up waking up in the middle of the night
with my headache still there.
It wasn't that much worse then I went to bed with.
So that wasn't an issue.
What was the issue was that my stomach wasn't feeling all that great.
As well as the random pains that have been popping up in the past couple of weeks.

Methinks that the stress of school is getting to me
In ways different from the last couple years of school.

Anywho.
I find it rather....funny in a...non funny way what I tend to focus on when I wake up
with these 'middle of the night' headaches that will be gone by the morning when I have to actually get up.

I might have mentioned this before.
But my mind tends to...be hyper focused in a detached hazy sort of way on some random topic I had talked about earlier in the day.
Lately this subject has been an anatomy related subject.
Since that class has basically taken over my life. lol.

Unfortunately, this past week.
We've been focusing on the Digestive System.
Yep.
That means....
the area that has been bugging me for the past couple of weeks.
Coincidentally...that's how long I've been on the digestive system.

Now its just a matter of deciding if there is actually something wrong with me...or if its all just in my head lol.

Anywho...I woke up for the middle of the night wake up.
And my mind was focused on the Digestive system.
Trying to name different parts and what they did, etc.
Its funny to me because its like I'm in two minds at that point.
The one that is awake enough to do the physical tasks and to say "hey brain stop thinking that."
And the other part of my mind that is still hyper focused on it in that hazy way where it won't stop.
So I end up dozing off with a mixture of "next day" "anatomy" and "weird" dreams flowing through my brain.

Needless to say. Its a love hate relationship.
I'm always curious to see what my brain will focus on this time when I get a headache.
but I really don't like getting the headaches because I feel off kilter for the rest of the day.

In either way.
I find it rather interesting how I can be hyper focused on a random topic in the middle of the night.
But in a hazy....still dream like type of way. Where I'm awake....yet I'm not awake.
I wonder if this only happens when i wake up in a certain stage of the sleep cycle.
Perhaps I'll have to look into it.
If there is an area where the brain is active, but not dreaming.
Hmm....

At a Glance

I walked to school today.
In the wind.
And saw through the glass.
Leaves stuck in a corner.
Then a breeze struck up.
And away they went.
Twirling and swirling
in a cyclone circle.
Until.
They once again fell to the ground
Waiting
For another whirlwind to come their way.

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Water for the Leaves

I had the opportunity to do something different.
Take a chance.
and get slightly messy.

What was this opportunity?
I was able to water the house plants.
I did it as a favor to my sister.
But it ended up being a moment of laughs for both of us.
Because...
well.....I had trouble getting the water to the plants. ;)

It first started with the cup. It was just a regular coffee mug.
And apparently...when your lips aren't sipping the liquid....
and you're just pouring it out.
The water tends to drip....in large amounts.

Now...somebody less stubborn then me....
probably would have switched to a different cup.
Once they realized that it would drip every time the cup when horizontal.
Not me.
:)
I wanted to see if I could pour the water onto the soil without spilling it elsewhere.

Needless to say.....I didn't succeed.
But my sister an I got a good laugh out of it. :)
Especially at one point where I tried to water a plant from above.
And the water just bounced off the leaves of the plant and poured....
yep everywhere except where I wanted to go. The soil.

So what was the lesson learned here?
I have to be careful how and where I give water to my plants.

It almost seems like there should be a gospel principle in there somewhere.

You have a cup....that's not perfect, but you think that it will do the task needed just fine.
However, the cup...is inadequate for doing this task it wasn't made for doing.
Perhaps if I was watering a big area of dirt instead of a bunch of small pots...the cup would have worked just fine.
But a cup specifically a mug...is meant for drinking....by people. Where our lips can soak up the liquid and barely let a drop escape.
It also doesn't help to try and water plants with a wide brim mouth....when the areas where you can reach the soil....are rather small. With leaves covering alot of the soil its hard to find the right spot to drip the liquid in without some of it catching on the leaves and...spilling elsewhere besides the soil.
It definitely doesn't work to just pour from overhead. The leaves will catch it all and direct your precious liquid elsewhere.
Instead you need to go to the side with a cup that can water plants without spilling in order to saturate the dry soil with moisture so the plant will continue to grow.

So what is the gospel principle?
There is a way, a time and a place to accomplish your task. :)
The way....using the right cup
The time.....how fast you pour the liquid
A place....where you decide to pour the liquid.

I don't know....i want to relate this ideal to
preaching the gospel
to doing community service
to growing a testimony
To being open to others aid.

Things like that....
Yet I'm not sure how to explain it. :)
Oh well ^^
Perhaps this was just meant to be a simple blog post about giving plants water.
And how....
difficult it can be to do so if its not done 'right' ;) lol.
Ha. At least I went into the task with the right mindset.
so that when the water spilt everywhere instead of getting frustrated.
I started laughing because it was funny and it helped to cheer up my sister. :)
That's where it counts I think.
Being able to make other people laugh even if something goes wrong.
That means...something actually went right. :)
Just not where you were expecting it to be.

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

181st Sunday Conference Highlights

Congratulations to me. :) I'm more awake for part two of the Conference Highlights.
So this time while highlighting quotes and things. I'll probably add in my own thoughts as well. :)

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf
-Don't wait for a giant miracle, take small baby steps instead.
Basically, it was a 'go and do' statement. Don't just sit there waiting for things to go right in a flash of blinding light. Instead act. Go searching for the miracle, take the steps that will set up the situation where a miracle can occur.
-It would be wise to turn down the volume on worldly noise.
We're often too connected to the world through electronic devices so that our world is hardly ever silent. Take the time to enjoy the quiet and get in touch with the spiritual volume that is much quieter then the world's noise, however its more soothing as well.
-Hearken unto the promptings of the spirit and then be eager to follow them.
I have a problem with this...getting the prompting to go and do something, and then I talk myself out of following it because I have other needs that I think are more pressing, so if i do follow the prompting its usually with reluctance, or when I feel there aren't pressing needs upon me to be somewhere else.
-Study out your problem first, then ask for guidance.
Look at your problem from all angles. Look at the pros and cons and have a decision in your mind then ask the Lord to see if this is a good decision or if there should be something that should change first.
-The voice of wisdom can come from trusted family and friends.
-Don't think only of yourself, you might miss a powerful experience that can help out others as well as yourself.
-By helping answer someone else's prayer you can also get your prayer answered.
-Don't only open your mouths but also use your hands to pass God's message to others. But also spread God's message at the appropriate moment and time so that it will be more widely accepted.

Elder Paul V. Johnson
-No pain or trial that we experience is wasted. It will build us up, strengthen us and open our hearts if we stay faithful.
-You won't be the same (after a trial) you will become stronger (if you keep the right attitude)
-In order to see the view you must also make the climb.
You can't rely on others for forever to tell you what they see. At some point you need to go and do. climb the mountain so you yourself can see the view.
-A particular challenge prepares us for something important that will happen in the future.
-Put your trust in God during your trials and he will support you.

Elder H. David Burton
-Help people help themselves learn the principles of self reliance.
-Distinguish between your needs and wants and move forward accordingly.
-Fly to the relief of a stranger.
          Look out for others.

Sister Silvia H. Allred
-Reach out to others so that they might be strengthened.

Elder David A. Bednar
-The spirit of revelation is available to every person who was baptized and received the holy ghost.
-Shun the tools of the adversary because these tools make it hard for the soft spirit of revelation to be heard.
-God doesn't need to send an angel to give us revelation, instead he will send the Spirit to give us comfort and purge our doubts and fears over time.
-You are normal in receiving Revelation, just keep pressing onward steadfast in faith.
-We can receive revelation without recognizing exactly when we received that revelation.

I liked Elder Bednar's talk. He used two analogies within the talk.
One of walking into a dark room and flipping on the light and light suddenly coming into being.
And the other was the gradual almost imperceptible light of the rising sun how you don't notice at first that the dark is fading into light.
He used these two metaphors to show the two different types of revelations we can receive.
We can receive it all at once. (Turning on the light)
Or gradually over time. (The rising sun)

President Thomas S. Monson
-Temples are more then stone and mortar.
-Most of us don't have to suffer great hardships to go to the temple. So set aside the time to visit the temple regularly.
-Always have the temple in your sights. Have a picture of a temple in every room of the house.
-"I wanted their feet on the shovel"
(He was referring to the ground breaking of the Rome, Italy temple -my favorite temple that hasn't been built yet.) I think this statement could also refer to the thought of "I want you also to be involved in the work of building my kingdom."

Elder Richard G. Scott
-Express love and gratitude often and in many different ways to your spouse or loved ones.
-Righteous love is the foundation of a successful marriage.
-Cause good traits to flower for your spouse and children.
-Marriage is a good setting to overcome selfishness.

Elder D. Todd Christofferson
-He that can't bear divine chastisement isn't worthy of God's kingdom.
Divine Chastisement can come for 3 reasons.
            1. To call us to Repentance.
            2. To refine and sanctify us.
            3. To redirect our path
-Don't resent the things that help us put on the divine nature of god.
-If you're in a position to correct people for their betterment, and you refuse to do so...you're being selfish.
-Much of our chastisement should come from within ourselves. We should learn to be self correcting. (in a non-detrimental type of way)

Elder Carl B. Pratt
-The lord remembers those who pay tithing faithfully
-You can pay tithing for being blessed with a good life during a time of struggle.
This was from a story where a father had earned 100 pesos in a time where money was scarce and bartering was common. The wife decided that since they had been able to survive during this time of trouble off of their animals and gardens that they would give the 100 pesos as tithing in gratitude for how well they were doing. A while later after the Father took a job to guide a wealthy man on a trip to the mountains he was given a bag of coins basically as a 'tip.' Those coins totalled up to exactly 100 pesos.
-Pay tithing regardless of poor finances, that is when we are being tested in our faith.
-Don't delay in paying your tithing. Pay it ASAP, its easier that way.
-Paying your tithing is a matter of having faith in the Lord.
-Just because you pay your tithing with money, that doesn't mean you'll always be blessed in return with money. But you will be blessed in other ways. The Lord's richest blessings are spiritual

Elder Lynn G. Robbins
    -Be begets Do.
-Discipline should not be done in anger.
-Ask the child what they learned from their mistake.
-If you punish with the sword, it only focuses on punishing the behavior.
-Never let failure progress from an action to an identity.

I'll admit....this talk went over my head. I'm planning on reading it again when I get the chance because the topic...was a little confusing it was "Be begets Do" and that somehow tied in with 'how to discipline your child' in a good way.

Elder Benjamin De Hoyos
-Set aside the time to rescue those who have been alienated.

Elder C. Scott Grow
-Never give up on your children.
     -The atonement is always available.
-He heals the innocent who suffer because of the bad choices of others.
-Seek forgiveness from those who have wronged. Forgive others for wrongs done to you, Forgive yourself."

Elder Jeffery R. Holland
His talk was on how and why the people chosen to speak at conference give the talks they do.
-With rare exception no one here is assigned a topic.
      -Earnestly seek the Lord's direction.
-There will be something in this conference for everyone.
-The Church is not a fast food outlet. You can't always have it your way.
The church isn't easy, you'll have to work, not just ride on  people's coattails the whole way.
-Most of the audience listening in to the talks....(some talks dealing with specific topics like pornography, adultery, addictions, etc)...do not have to apply the warning calls that are meant for the few. Most of us are really good.
-One way or another God will have his voice heard.
-Do not let anything get you down.
-We will lighten your load anyway we can.
(Talking to President Monson and how the members of the church love him and want to help him in anyway possible.) This can also apply to our view points of others. If you see someone struggling help lighten their load. In return they will also lighten your load in some way, sometime in the future, in unexpected ways.

President Thomas S. Monson
-Our Heavenly Father is mindful of us.
-Be an example of honesty and integrity wherever you go.

And those are the highlights of thoughts I had from conference today. :)

They're Modern Too

Today during the Institute Devotional at my school.
One of the speakers showed a series of pictures
of people and family from around the world...well the Europe/Asia area.
And it just struck me.
How similar it is.
The scenery, the mountains, the forests, the fields.
Even the people.
It looked like places I'd been too before here.
Sure when pictures of the cities came up on the screen...
It did look pretty foreign.

But otherwise....it looked a lot like home.

I think its really easy to extrapolate and imagine 'foreign countries'
As these places not at all similar or I'll admit it, as modern as here where I live.
Its a silly misconception to have.
Yet I have it in my brain.
Mostly because, when I've heard of other places...
Its usually been in school.
In a history class.
Which automatically tells you....that since its history...its old...and not modern at all.

I think if I paid more attention to the news.....I would see alot of info on war....but I think I would also see more of 'modern' cities, then the less then modern ones I have stuck in my head.

But anyway. I was struck by how Modern everything was in the pictures.
And I realized.....we're basically all the same....we have the same wants and needs.....
And that I need to get my head out of the past and into the present.

Plus I need to travel around more and see that the rest of the world isn't stuck in the past just because I only learn about the world in a 'past' state.
Yah...the world is modern Sarnic and its getting more modern every day.
Just keep that note to myself in the back of my head and I won't be so surprised next time.

Until you next read words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

The Dream

I was in my bedroom at home searching through my bottom draw, looking for shirts to pack.
I couldn't wear specific ones because They would find me.
But I just seemed to only have Christmas type shirts. Which was odd, because it was like July.
I was packing to run, to hide, to get away, to not let them find me.

And....that's about all I remember.
I had to blend in and hide or something.....
