Better Housing

I don't always understand why people try to get a 'cheap' pet for their kids.

Like parents come into the store expecting to spend Ten...maybe twenty dollars to buy the pet and maybe a container to keep said pet in.

And don't think beyond that.

It's like they don't get the concept of owning a pet.
Like the fact that it's not a toy.
It's a live animal that has to LIVE in the container you choose to keep it in.
Weather it's a small cage or a gallon bowl...

There are people who want to go as small and cheap as possible.

And I don't like it.

Like if you're only getting a pet to try and make your child happy....you shouldn't be getting a pet.
You shouldn't be getting a pet with the attitude of 'it will die anyways' and such.

And many potential pet parents...should do a bit more research so that they know what they're getting into before attempting to come to the pet store with their kids because they'll end up leaving disappointed.

Like today.
I spotted a mother and her son staring at the reptile cages with a critter tote in hand.

The large critter tote?
Yah. Meant to only be a TEMPORARY container.
Like. You basically use it for traveling or as a feeding place to put your reptile in to feed it.
It's not meant to be a permanent home.

Especially for lizards.
Because they need heat and such to survive well.
And since the critter totes are made of plastic....a heat lamp isn't good to place on top of them.

Plus there's food for the lizards.
Live. Bugs.
And you gotta keep those bugs somewhere.

Plus there's the lizard itself.
The boy was wanting a lizard he could play with.
Yet had been looking at the green anoles which aren't really a playing pet because they're fast.
They're also slightly more work because they need a higher humidity.

So there went the Mom's plan to "buy a $3 lizard."
Because like you need a good cage.
And if you get the kits and such that's usually $70-$150 in of itself to get everything.

Not an inexpensive pet at all.
At least in the beginning.

So I ended up showing them a couple other lizards and tortoises that might better suit the child, as well as guinea pigs because they could be considered an 'easier' animal to take care of.

But yah....

Parents should probably take more thought into the pets that they want their children to have...because trying to get the smallest cheapest things possible...is only going to end up with trouble later on and an unhappy pet.

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Too Cold!

Sometimes I wonder at customers....like what they're thinking.

I had a customer come into the store today with a bird cage.
The birds still within.

Which usually means an animal return.

Except one of the birds within....was dead.

The customer was returning the birds because they'd bought four within the past two weeks....and three of them had died.

And the living one...that was stuck in the same cage as it's dead buddy...
Wasn't looking much better.

The bird was all puffed up and such, which puffed up birds when not sleeping is never a good sign.

Of course the customer wanted to know what was wrong.
Like why did they have three of their four birds die?!!?

-Me I was also concerned why they decided to bring the dead bird IN the CAGE?! Like why not wrap it up in a box or something? Why subject the live bird to the stress of having his dead buddy still in the cage?!

The live bird itself wasn't looking much better.
All puffed up and semi-lethargic in it's movements.

I've seen the birds puff up like that before when they're not feeling well.

And knowing how cold it's been recently...
I asked the customer.

"How warm are you keeping your home?"

They didn't understand at first. So I changed the question. "What temperature is your house at?"

They told me they were keeping their house at 64 degrees.

*exhales*

There is the likely culprit right there.

Animals, especially smaller animals like birds and lizards and hamsters...don't do well in cooler temperatures. Like bigger cats and dogs and people can.

That's why we recommend keeping the animals in the seventies.

Because too cold and they can get sick and die. Too hot and they can again get sick and die.

So the birds that this customer had?
Probably got too cold, maybe caught some sort of illness from being too cold, and died from that.

As we recommend not keeping birds in drafty areas for that very reason.

So after telling the customer to go warm up their house I took the birds -to isolate the one that was still alive and get it to a vet, and take care of the deceased one.

Thankfully our vet that sees birds was in today.
So I was able to take the bird over quickly so we could see if there was anything wrong with him.

Though I'm still leaning towards the bird being too cold.
Because even in the little time in our care the parakeet already was looking better in the warmer environment.

So hopefully this parakeet makes it.
And hopefully the customer makes their house much warmer if they decide they want the parakeet back if it recovers.

Guess we'll see.

I'll be watching the leaves.

Where's the Meds?

*shakes head*

Gotta love work chaos.

So yesterday I took a Guinea Pig to our vet because we'd finished the meds first prescribed to him....but weren't seeing any improvement.
Therefore I took him in for a recheck to see if there was anything more we could do medicinal wise to help clear up the issue.

But in typical fashion....because I got distracted training the new guy yesterday....
I didn't get an update on the guinea pig before I was off.

Which meant that the closing manager and my coworkers were left to get the guinea pig and any possible meds....

Except when I came in today....I noticed there were no new meds or notes on the charts that he was to be given meds.

But the last time this happened....it was because my coworkers had placed the medicine in the wrong spot and not written anything on the chart and I only found out we had meds because I decided to go double check with the vet...like three days later....*exhales*

So to be more proactive, I went straight over to the vet's desk as soon as they came into the store to check and see if the guinea pig had been prescribed more meds.

Turns out he had.
But I hadn't seen any in the back.
And after double checking everywhere I could think of...still couldn't find them.

So I went back to the desk to get the medicine again.

Only...when the recepienst pulled up the medicine listed and then asked the Techs in the back about it...
Apparently the medicine is given for diarrhea....which was not a symptom this guinea pig had.
So I had to wait a while longer while the front desk called the vet (he was off today) at his home to double check that he'd prescribed the right medicine.

He had.

And it turns out, that the medicine had never been picked up yesterday as things got too hectic...though the manager in charge had paid for them.

*shakes head*
Good thing I'm around to double check....
Hopefully this new batch of meds speeds the guinea pig's progress. *fingers crossed*

Training Again

It's been a while since I've trained someone in the department.

I mean, the last couple of hires we've had come in...I didn't really get the chance to train because I missed most of November at work, as well as the newbies being scheduled opposite shifts from me...so I couldn't do the usual training I tend to do when getting new people in the department.

So admittedly it was kinda weird to look at the schedule today and realize that I would actually have a good chunk of time to teach the guy about the department.

Which training is something that I hate/love.
Because like I enjoy teaching others and sharing knowledge and such.
But I usually end up with a shadow for a week or so lol.
Plus my throat tends to get sore from doing so much talking for hours at a time while teaching.

But overall...I think the new guy is going to do well. He's given off a good first impression at least. So there's something there.

Plus!!
I got word today that one of my old coworkers who left like a year and a half to two years ago is coming back!! So yay!! I'll have another person in my department, and I won't have to train her as much because she already knows things!! Yay!! lol.
Mostly it will be updating her on policy changes and such.

So I'm actually kinda excited currently.
Because for the first time in a while I'll be able to feel like my department is back to being fully staffed instead of you know....just barely hanging in there.

Because we'll be able to have more openers with these new people coming in, so hopefully that will mean less shifts with me by myself....but we'll see. ^^;;

Relaxing

It's nice having a friend to hang out with.
You know the sort where you don't have to 'do' anything.
Where you're comfortable enough with each other that you can just chill on the couch doing your own thing while a movie plays...and still have a good time.

All too often, with most people I spend time with...I feel like I have to be more active that we have to 'do' something.

So when I get the chance to just...relax and be myself where we both do our own things together....
It's nice.
So nice.

It was a great way to spend a Sunday for sure.

Covering the Cost

It was a simple enough plan.
Grab tickets and meet up with a group of people to go see a movie.
Simple.
There were four of us going.
And we were ordering the tickets online.
And I say we I mean me.

As I didn't know when or if I'd have time to go in person to grab the tickets.
And like we wanted good seats for the movie right?
Plus everyone would pay me back that was going that I didn't know.

So easy.
Four of us.
I would be paid back for half the tickets.
No big deal.
So I bought the tickets.

Except....plans never go according to plan right?

Right.

This morning my friend got the text.
One of the others couldn't make it.

No big deal.
I had roommates and such I could bring along.
So I asked if one of them wanted to come.

And figured I wouldn't ask them to purchase the ticket.
After all, I was basically asking them last second to come and ensure that the seat didn't go to waste.

And the third individual was still going.
So would pay me back.
So not a total loss.
Paying for 3 of the 4 tickets.

….Except that last person....cancelled.
Like 40 minutes before the show started.

Which meant....
I pulled in my other roommate.

And like...I was in the same boat there.
How can I ask someone to pay me back for a ticket when they hadn't had the intention to go until I called them to ask if they would.

So yah....
Basically treated everyone to a movie out.

Which was great.
I enjoyed the time and the company.

But now that I'm home....
I just....

I feel drained again.
Feel like I've given a lot....but haven't received a lot in return.

I mean. One of my love languages is Gift Giving right?
So buying tickets and spending the money.
Isn't that big of a deal in my mind.
Because that's how I show love.

I just....idk. I'm just kinda left meh right now.

But yah.
Note to self for next time I do this.
I'm only buying tickets for people I know....and are confident won't bail at the last moment.
Because this was stressful. *exhales*

A Quiet Drive

I spent a couple of hours driving around Happy Valley today.

You know. Just making loops along familiar roads, briefly exploring roads that I've always wondered where they went and finally finding out the answer.

Just...driving.

Why was I driving around?

Because my friend who's visiting from out of state, was at the temple.
And she needed someone to watch her baby boy for her while she was there.

So I volunteered to do so.
As I love her baby.
He's like the cutest thing ever and such happy baby.

But at the same time.
I was rather nervous to do so.
Because I've never watched someone so young before.
And like...I didn't want to mess things up.
And those carseats and stroller bucklers are a pain to put together and take apart and like... :S :S :S

What would I do if the kid started crying?!?! Ah!!!

But.
The main hope was that the baby tends to fall asleep if he's in the car driving around.

And as luck would have it.
He was tired today.
and fell asleep on the ten minute drive over to the temple.

So the hope and plan was that if I kept driving around....he would stay asleep and therefore I wouldn't have to do anything besides drive lol.

Of course in case he did wake up I was prepared for that too. With a place to go, toys to play with, snacks to munch on and of course the diaper bag.

So yah.
My heart was kinda in my throat for those two hours I was driving around.
Hoping that the sun wasn't shining too much on the baby.
Hoping that it wasn't too hot or too cold for him.
Warily watching the crazy drivers around me to ensure I didn't get into an accident.

About an hour and a half into the drive....he woke up....because I'd been still for a little too long.
But thankfully, after a couple of coos and some gentle reassuring from me and purposely driving on smoother roads that went faster for like twenty minutes...
He fell back asleep.
And stayed asleep until after I picked up my friend from the temple.

So yay!
Success!!

Lol so while it was kinda stressful....
I did enjoy driving around.
I've always loved doing so actually.
So having an excuse to just kinda meander through town and such was fun.
And a different way to spend the afternoon. :D

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Finally Visiting

So a while ago. Like...idk six or seven years ago?
They announced that there was a new mall that would be built downtown.

Kinda modeled after the Gateway mall that was our first experience of an 'outdoor' mall growing up.
But this new mall. City Creek would be different.
In a different part of town.
With both indoor and outdoor shopping.

And I was like "I should go check that out!"
You know...when it was finished and such.

But as things tend to go with me and going places....

I don't usually go.

So yah. The place has been open and functioning for years and years.

And like. I had no idea where it was or what it looked like.
I just remembered that there was a creek flowing through the mall.
Because I read a news story about it ages and ages ago lol.

So when my friend who was visiting from out of town was looking for something to do...
I suggested going to the mall to check it out.

Because again, I've never been there.

Lol which is kinda pathetic.
But you know...a lot of people live near famous/popular places and never go to them.
So it's not that weird.

But still kinda pathetic considering my friend who now lives on the East coast has been there and I haven't.

So we went on an adventure to explore!!
And explore we did the mall.

Definitely an interesting experience.
And I'm glad we went today instead of tomorrow or the next day because I liked that it wasn't that crowded.

Of course.
In typical mall fashion.
The place was like 95% clothing 4% Jewelry and 1% other.

And I typically only have interesting in that 1% lol.

Still it was nice to wander around and finally see the mall and see what it looks like...

So yah.
Adventure! :D woot lol.

Lost and Found

Okay.
So you know how yesterday I made the most amazing discovery in my car?
Where I found out that the seats lay down flat?

Well.
Today I needed to like...put everything back together as I need my car all put back together tomorrow when I'm hanging out with a friend as we're driving all over the place.

And in getting the tank in the car yesterday, I needed to move all the random stuff that was in the back of my car up to the front of the car to make room.
Which meant I needed to move all the stuff in the front of my car back into the back of my car.

And in the process get those backseats back in their proper upright positions.

So. Once I'd moved everything and was preparing to get the seats back to normal.
I noticed something on the floor.
Where the bottom part of the seat usually rests.
The part that has probably never seen the light of day before yesterday lol.

And like there's a bunch of random stuff there, old candy wrappers and feathers and pens and such that I probably should have cleaned out....but didn't.

However, I saw something dark brown glimmering in the light.
And reached out to grab it.

And made an even more wonderful discovery!!!

You see....like....five years ago? Maybe six or so.

I went to a gem faire in the next valley over.
And while there discovered this awesome smokey quartz that's a little bigger than the size of a quarter and was round...but also was super clear!
Like it's rare to get quartz that clear...especially smokey quartz. Because there's always so much patterning within the stone and such.

But this rock?
You could use it as a magnifying glass!
Like you can read words and everything!

It's awesome!

Only.

At some point, while I was living in my last apartment complex (like 3-4 years ago)
I misplaced it.

Like I feel like it was while I was up visiting my parents for a bit...and sometime in that visit.
I misplaced it.

I had it.
And then I didn't.

But like it was a while after the fact that I realized I hadn't seen it.

Only I'd assumed that it was just somewhere in the apartment, probably lost in my room as it's usually in an organized chaos sort of state.

So I figured it would reappear when I moved out of the place. Got everything packed up and looked under every stick of furniture to make sure nothing was left behind.

It didn't show up.

And I kinda just decided it was lost at my parent's house as where else would it be??

Mostly I forgot about it.

But funnily enough, I'd been thinking about the stone just the other day.
Remembering it's clear brown quartz color and wishing I had it as I haven't been able to find anything like it.

And what did I find in my car?!
THAT ROCK!!!

AHHHHH
I was so excited. Am still so excited!!
I found the rock and it's the best and ahhhh!!!

Yah. I'm so happy. :D

Laying Flat

I made this most amazing discovery in my car today.

It's considered even more amazing because like...we've had this car since I was like ten years old.

In any case.
I was seeing if I could fit a tank and its stand into my car because I was helping my brother out.
And like...for the longest while I figured the seats could only go down at an angle and not lay completely flat.
Which made getting the tank into the car rather difficult. Because I was confident I could fit at least one thing in my car...but both?

And then like the guy helping me get the tank into the car to take up to my brother was like "Well don't the seats fold all the way down?"
I was like "Nope!"
And he was like "That's weird. Because it looks like they do."
And with a bit of fiddling and feeling around in the seams of the backseats, he found the tiny straps that you pull that lifted up the seats out of the way so the back could fold all the way flat and I was like like....()_() over this discovery.

Do you realize how much easier moving things is when I have that much space?!?!
SOOO Easy!!
It makes the car so much bigger on the inside, like I have a lot more room than I thought I did and it was amazing!!!

So yah.
Proud discovery moment lol.
It only took like 18 years. *shakes head*

Three Clicks

There was this guinea pig in our ISO room that we've had back there for like three weeks now.
Because he was being treated for a case of ringworm.
Which usually takes 2-3 weeks if not slightly longer (depending on how bad of a case it is) before the skin heals and the fur grows back.

And this guinea pig had finally reached the point where I deemed him healthy enough to go home.

So when it was a little bit later in the morning (as people don't like being called at seven am)
I punched in the phone number that had been given as a way to contact the owner and waited for the caller to pick up.

Surprisingly, they picked up only after a couple of rings.
But there was a slight pause before the woman on the phone was like "Hello?"

And I was like "Hi! My name is Sarnic from Starsmet--" I don't even know if I got through the whole spiel of I was looking for "So and So" or not.
But there was a click.

And I looked at my phone to see that the woman had hung up on me.
O.o

Huh?
Like wouldn't you want to stay on the line if you heard it was your petstore calling? Like especially when you have a guinea pig you brought to us so we could treat him and bring him back?

So I called right back.
You know...in case the line accidentally had been disconnected.
-As that does happen on occasion, the phone call drops.

And it rang once...picked up and the person on the other end immediately hung up before I could utter a word.

….
I was almost ready to give it up for the day just then.
Because like...if the same number calls you twice in a row you'd think you'd want to pick up and listen?
Because like scam callers don't call you multiple times in a row.

Though my brain was wondering at this point, because I'm a writer and I've seen a ton of crime shows...
If the woman thought I was someone trying to take her man away from her.
As the name on the paperwork was a guy's name.
But a woman kept answering.

The thought was halfway confirmed when I called for a third time and the woman picked up saying 'Hellooooooooo?"

So I was like "Hi, I'm calling for So and So is he there?"
And she was like "He's my husband, how can I help you?"

-Key word there was "Husband" aka. "He's mine."
*rolls eyes*
-Yes I could be making this up, but she seriously sounded possessive over the phone.

So I was like "This is Sarnic from the Starsmet, calling in regards to the guinea pig that was dropped off to us. As he's ready to be picked up."

Her attitude changed completely after that.
"Oh! I was just going to come in today to ask about him!"

"Yah, he's healthy and ready to be picked up."

"Great! I'll be in as soon as I can depending on how bad the roads are." (it snowed heavily today)

It was a couple of hours later when she showed up with husband and kids in tow to get the guinea pig.

For which I was glad that they were able to have a happy reunion.
Though I do still wonder why I had to call 3 times before I could actually get what I wanted to say across. *exhales*

Cloud Cover

I was worried I wouldn't be able to see it.
As we're under a winterstorm warning right now.
Because a major snow storm is 'supposed' to hit us sometime tonight/tomorrow.

And the sky has been pretty cloud covered for most of the day.
So I was a little less than hopeful that I would be able to see the Super Blood Wolf Moon Eclipse tonight.

Which was a pity because like I always enjoy looking at those sort of events because they don't happen that often.

But!!!

Despite the heavier cloud cover earlier in the day.
As the time of the eclipse approached, the clouds cleared and the stars came out and I could see the moon!!!

So I was able to watch the entire event (though I ducked in and out of the house as it was a little chilly outside)
And see the moon turn red and the bright white fade and come back and it was just awesome!!

So grateful I could watch the event. :D

Proactive

I find it easiest to do things when I'm in my work uniform.

I mean...since I spend like 8 hours a day in said work uniform...doing work and such and being proactive.

It makes sense that if I need to do something....I'm more likely to do it while still in 'work mode' as I call it.
Because once I switch to comfy clothes....it's time to relax and chill and you  know....not do anything crazy lol.

So when my roomie texted me right before I got off my shift, for help in some chores.
I was in work mode.
So I was like. Sure. Why not? I can totally do that.

Plus, I'm trying to be a good roomie as my standards of cleanliness aren't as high as other people's. So I usually rely on them for when things get 'too bad' and clean appropriately. Because like...their definition of bad is often my definition of 'yah its still clean. We're good here."

In any case.

Once I got home from work, I made sure to stay in my work clothes just because it helps me keep the mindset of "do this and clean that" a bit easier.

Thankfully it was only like a fifteen  minute process to get my half of the chores done...

And then I could relax, change, and go eat dinner lol.

So yah.
I tend to be more productive in work clothes.

Love?

For the past little bit I've been reflecting on Love Languages.

You know. The quality time, acts of service, gift giving, words of affirmation, and...touch?  I think the last one.

Yah.
Just been thinking on it.

Mostly because I've been realizing....that how I show love....isn't quite how I want to be given love in return?

I mean...

Just thinking about how I show love to others....it's usually in giving gifts, sometimes using words of affirmation, but also spending quality time with them.

Which is big because like....I have plans and things I want to do. So sacrificing time to spend with a person usually means I care about them a lot.

But at the same time...
I'm not quite sure what sort of love I want to receive back.

Which since I don't know for sure....
Makes me think that I don't often get it. *exhales*
Which is kind of depressing when you think about it.

I mean. Probably the most common love language I get back is words of affirmation.
But like....not enough? I love talking with people, but sometimes they don't want to talk when I want to talk....

And I love gift giving....but I rarely get gifts back....so is that something I actually need myself as a show of love? Or is it more of what I like doing to show love to people?

Because honestly.
I feel quite content to be by myself doing my own thing.

Which isn't a bad thing.
And I honestly need some 'me' time away from people and responsibilities and worrying about others in order to recharge and relax.

But like....what love languages do I actually need? Which ones help me out? Which ones make me feel better?

And I think....
It might be the touch one.

I mean as a child my parents always said I was quite the cuddler.
And whenever I came home I loved spending time curled up between my parents with them on the bed as we watched shows and tv and such.

But like it's the main thing....that you don't really get.....in college town.
You're away from family.
More often away from friends.

And like touch just doesn't happen.
Even with close friends....I haven't really had the sort of friendships where one just sprawls all over your friend and you're in constant contact and such.

So like....I do wonder....
If that's the main component of love languages that I'm missing.
That I need.
Just to be held by someone you know.

*exhales*
Some days it's like a painful ache in the shoulders, something I can physically feel.
A need to just curl up against someone else. Rest my head on their chest, listening to their heart beat and lungs breathing and feeling their arms wrapped around me.....

So I'd like to think that I need more touch in my life....

But at the same time...it has its own draw backs.
Because I can be rather sensitive to people's energies.
So even if I crave a hug, they don't always help if the other's energies aren't jiving with mine.

Which has made the past couple of months more difficult I think.
Because my usual sources of comfort and hugs....
Have been emotionally effected.

So yah.....I'm surviving off of substitutes now I think. Heat packs being the main one.
But like the other love languages. Trying to give more quality time, words of affirmation, gift giving.....in hopes that I'll be able to get a  little bit of love language back.....

Not sure it's working.
But I'm trying what I can.

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Rain

I hate driving in the rain.
Seriously.
I love watching it pour and come down and such.

But Driving in it?
No I'd rather drive in snow any day.
Because at least with snow you can see where the previous driver has been.
But rain?

Not so much.

And it was pouring like crazy earlier today.
Super heavy deavy downpour like buckets being dropped over your head.
and like....
I had to drive in it.
In the dark.
And it's horrible.
Because the lines here don't show up in the rain.
Not well at least.
So the water on the road is just reflecting the lights of the cars and yah...

I hate driving in it.

Where's the snow.
I want that. It's so much easier to deal with.

Until you next see these words;

Grooming Error

It's definitely a week for odd phone calls at work.

This morning, half an hour before the main store opened, a customer called demanding to speak to a manager.

Which it has to be something quite upsetting to call before the store opens.
Like...who's awake at this hour? (you know besides us workers)

So the customer had to either be someone upset from last night.
Or else it was someone having issues with grooming as they're open a couple of hours before the main store.

It was an issue with grooming.

Apparently the customer had called like a week ago because she wanted to get her cat groomed.
And she's apparently been to our sister store before, but its been like a year or so.
But our system had no record of her.
Which is odd because it shouldn't matter which store of ours you go to, all stores should have access to customer grooming records.

In any case.
Because they had no record.
(Maybe in an update they lost it?)
She went through the whole process again giving all the necessary information and making sure that she'd have the rabies vaccination and such up to date.

Only.
She called this morning....idk why? Maybe to double check the time her appointment was.
Only to find out that she still wasn't in our system. That they had no scheduled appointment for her today.
Even more importantly.
Our Cat Groomer....does not work today. So there would have been no reason to schedule an appointment today because no one would be there to groom the kitty.

So understandably the customer was upset.
Didn't like the attitude the groomers took with her.
Upset at the whole situation.

So my manager did what he could to assuage her. Offering a free groom and such and promising he'd look into the situation.

-Because it's really odd that they'd put her in the system and yet not have her in the system.

Though he was wondering if this customer was trying to scam us.
As it's quite common apparently (sadly) for grooming customers to try and get a free groom out of us.

But it was the fact that she had put all her information in the system that had us both confused.

So I was like "Maybe she accidentally called our competitor?"

I mean, people mix up our stores all the time.
They will be in our store and tell people on the phone that they're in our competitor's. *shakes head*

So, I suggested to the manager that he call our competitor.
(as they've called us before to check in when customers are complaining on things)
And see if their grooming department had her scheduled with them.

The result?

They did.
She'd somehow managed to call and schedule an appointment with our competitor without realizing it.

Which she was confused about as well when my manager called her back to explain the situation because "I don't even like them!"

Needless to say, she was a bit embarrassed that she went off on us when we hadn't been at fault.

Though I do hope she was able to have a good experience with the other store getting her cat groomed.

Sand No Go

It took me a while to remember her.
This customer on the phone.
A rather upset customer on the phone.

Who had bought one of our tanks like two weeks ago to move her fish in.
And one of us in the store had told her that it should be fine to put sand in the tank and that her fish wouldn't have any issues.

-Which I seriously hope that wasn't me....I mean I don't usually recommend sand. But still....I probably wouldn't have thought there would be an issue.

In any case.
Apparently she'd set up the tank, put the sand in then put the fish in....

Only to have the fish she'd had for like a year or so in a different tank....die within the same day she put them in the new tank.

O.o
She was blaming the sand.
And in the heat of the moment...I could see why she would be concerned.
Though later in the conversation I began to wonder if her issue hadn't been the sand in the bottom of the tank, but instead adding in too many fish into a brand new tank too soon.

Because putting fish in a new tank can be stressful.

But in any case.
The customer was blaming the sand and saying how her husband was furious because those were "twenty dollar fish" in those tanks.

And now no longer wants anything to do with the fish or any of the tanks and wants her to return the tank ASAP.

-Which was why she was calling in the first place.
She wanted to know what our return policy was to see if she could actually return the tank.

She could.
The minor hiccup being that she needed to have the receipt to prove that she bought the tank from us.

She wasn't sure she would be able to find it.
So I ended up looking it up and was able to find it just in case she couldn't find hers.

The main hiccup being?
She paid almost the entire thing in cash.
And she wanted to know if she would be able to get cash back for that return.

:S

Even though the tank was on sale when she got it...it's still well over $100 in cash that she was wanting us to just hand out.

We would much rather put it on the Debit card that she used for part of the purchase.

Only....she couldn't.
Why? It was no longer an active card because she'd had to close the account after fraudulent charges were charged to her account.
*exhales*

Thankfully she still had the card, so we just needed her to bring it in to prove that she was the one who'd paid for it so that we could give her the cash back. Because again. It was a lot of money.

In any case.
By the end of the conversation I had placed the customer.

I'd been the one to help her get the tank.
Though I don't recall if I helped her with the sand or not.

But she'd been in the store once before.
Having wanted to get a 60 gallon tank at the time, but she wanted the stand that our Display tank (when we had a fully set up 60 gallon fish tank running) was sitting on.

Which I told her we couldn't do....

and then like two weeks after that conversation we got word we were getting rid of the display fish tanks. *shakes head*

In any case.
I really wanted nothing further to do with her after I hung up the phone.
Because I remembered the last two experiences with her.
And hated them.

Because her energy is not a good energy to be around.
It's a bit too chaotic.
And it's not helped that she has two kids that have the same type of energy and are either running around the store like they've been hyped up on a store filled with candy, or else are constantly tugging at your shirt and arm and touching you to get your attention.

So yah.
I didn't want to see her or deal with the kids or any part of the transaction.

Which thankfully she said she would come in after I would be off work.

Unluckly though....she showed up four hours earlier than expected. :S :S :S

Yeesh.

However, I was still lucky in that I was in the middle of bringing out new birds to the floor so I was stuck in the bird enclosure getting everyone into their new homes while the whole return was happening.

So yay for avoiding the chaotic energy!!

*exhales*

Definitely more stress than I wanted to deal with today though. *shakes head*

Shoulda Fixed Them

Customers are interesting creatures.
Especially the ones who happen to call the store with a question.
As they usually feel like they need to give you this whole long unnecessary background story on why they are calling and the situation leading up to why they are calling before getting to the point of asking the question they want me to answer.

Sometimes it's easy to head them off.
Other times you just have to wait until they run out of steam to then ask them what they need.

In any case.
I had a customer call the store today who spoke....rather slowly

Like....every word.....had.....to.....be......thought about.....before.....she could.....say.....it.

Which made like a two minute conversation expand out into like a fifteen minute ordeal.

The question itself was pretty simple.
The woman had some cats she no longer wanted and wanted to know if we would take them.
Which we don't.
We only go through specific adoption groups with our cats and dogs so the people wanting to rehome their animals need to contact them first.

Only that wasn't how the conversation started.

No the woman launched into a very long explanation on how her daughter -who was living at her parents with her husband at the time, had gotten a cat, but never got her fixed.

-So I was like. Oh, She wants to get the cat fixed.

No that was like two years ago? A while.
And the cat still has never been fixed.
And the daughter divorced her husband and moved out in the meantime.
Leaving the cat.

That wasn't fixed.
And because the cat hadn't been spayed.
The parents now are dealing with not one. but TWO litters of kittens.
One set being like 8 months old and the other is like 8 weeks old.

Which....

By this point I'm wondering why they didn't just go get the cat fixed because you know...that's probably the easiest solution.

The reason?
a) It's their daughter's cat. (but she no longer lives there) and
b) They're on a fixed income the parents because they're retired and living off of social security.

Which makes sense that you have to watch your budget and such...
but there are plenty of clinics around that will spay/neuter pets for reduced prices in order to keep what was happening at this customer's house from happening.

But no the customer didn't want to get the cat fixed.

Didn't want to spend the money.

But she also didn't want to keep feeding the cats either.

And was coming across another problem.
Where the first litter of kittens has become mature.
And now they're trying to breed with each other.

-The lady sounded so scandalized on the phone that the kittens would try and breed with their siblings.

*shakes head* I mean...yes? They can do that.
Which is why you either separate them or you know....get them fixed.

But yah the customer didn't want to do that.
She just wanted someone to come get her cats before she ended up with twenty, no forty, no seventy--no a hundred and fifty cats!

(She kept upping the anti every time she repeated herself.)

Which yah...you don't want to keep the cats together and keep them breeding because that's how you get an out of control population of cats.

So I ended up giving the customer the numbers of our adoption groups so she could contact them.

And hopefully they'll be able to help her out. *fingers crossed*

A Little Prodding

*exhales*
Sometimes I wonder what I get myself into.
Though to be fair, I didn't think anyone would respond.

So like, it's no secret that I write.
I've had the goal to write at least one fic-one story- a month and post it online.

But on Friday...I just wasn't feeling that inspired.
Like...I wanted to write, but my current writing projects were being more daunting than I was able to handle.

So while scrolling through Tumblr I saw a prompt ask list thing.
Where you reblog it and people can then send you prompts from the list for you to write a short story about.
(Ha. Short. Ha.)

And since I wasn't being productive otherwise (mostly because I was fighting a headache and looking for a distraction)

I reblogged it basically saying "Hey send me one, I need a distraction."

Though from past track records.
Reblogging those things works like...once every six reblogs.
And it was like my first time reblogging a writing prompt ask thingy.

So like...I didn't know what to expect.

As I'm known occasionally as a writer there.
But I'm not famous famous in the circles I wander in lol.

So needlessly I was surprised to get not one, but TWO writing prompts from people.

And like. ()_()

Agh.

The full realization of how much trouble I was in hit pretty hard. lol.
Though funnily enough I was up for the challenge.

As writing can go one of two ways.
It's easy and I get it done in like a day or two....
Or I struggle hard core and it takes months to write out five chapters.

The first prompt.
Easy.
Wrote it in a day.
But I ran out of time for the second prompt....

Which is bad because usually after a 'good' day of writing....I usually end up with like two or three days where for whatever reasons (like evil headaches) I can't write or don't have time or you know...problems.

Yah that's what happened here with that second prompt.
Ran out of time, encountered more headaches and yah....
Still working on that second prompt.

But the good thing about said writing prompts, is that it gets me to write a bit faster.
Because I know that there's someone waiting to see what I've written.
And I don't want to leave them hanging for too long.

Therefore. I write a bit faster than when I'm writing a story that no one (besides my confidant) knows I'm writing. ^^;;;

Lol so pros and cons to the writing prompts things.
Pros. I WROTE!! woot!!

Cons....I delayed my other projects I shouldn't be delaying. Oops. ^^;;

I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Cage Cut

It seemed like a simple enough thing.
A customer was trying to see if a bird cage she was interested in buying had all the pieces inside as the box had been opened.
So the customer was trying to see if the cage had been bought previously and returned.

So me, being helpful, pulled the cage and such out of the box to show her that it all looked to be brand new. The perches were still tied together, the bottom of the cage still in its wrapping.
So more than likely the box had just been opened and not used.
-Probably because another customer had wanted to do the same thing this customer was doing.

In any case, once I'd established the cage was good.
I went to put everything back in the box.

And while putting the main part of the cage away...
My fingers...idk slipped?
And a rough edge of the cage, possibly one of the hooks or something, caught my fingers on the way down.
Scratching them.

Which the first two fingers just have faint gouges in them. Nothing major, a couple layers of skin peeled away.
But the last finger, my ring finger...
Didn't fare as well.
Nope it took a second.
But blood began welling in the cut.

Only I was still working with the customer, trying to get the cage put away.

Thankfully we managed to get everything back in the box, and I could excuse myself before it got too bad.
And managed to get a band-aid on my finger so I could keep the wound protected while I continued working.

But yah.
It does make doing things rather difficult. *shakes head* Finger wounds are rather annoying to deal with when I need them for like...everything.

Whodunit?

I spent most of the day watching Season 2 of Castle today.
Mostly because I didn't have a lot of energy to do much else since I woke up with the migraine I went to bed with. *exhales*
So I was left a bit more drained than usual just because...it's hard to find the energy to do things when your head is pounding away.

So I turned to a distraction.
And mysteries are a great distraction.
Trying to figure out who did the crime, what their motive is, see if you can figure out the culprit before the people on the show do.

It's great.
Though really I do just enjoy the reveal.
So I don't always actively seek to point fingers and figure out the culprit.

Still. It's a great way to distract the brain from the stressors that had my muscles tense to the point it made my head ache.

It really makes me want to write my own mysteries lol.
I even dabbled in it a little bit today when I was feeling better.

But yah...probably need to practice a bit more with setting up crime scenes and witnesses and such before I can call myself a mystery writer lol.

An Attempt

I brought home a bunch of pest snails today.
A variety of trumpet and pond snails to be exact.

Why?

Because my bettas like to eat them.
Particularly Mushu the betta in my corner tank that I have.
Which is rather unfortunate as his tank needs to most help when it comes to algae control.

And snails do a really good job of eating algae in my betta tanks, keeping them nice looking.

Only it doesn't work so well when the betta eats all the snails. *shakes head*

I'd actually brought home snails already earlier this week, dividing them up between the different betta tanks around the house.

Only I'd noticed that Mushu had already gone to town on his.
So I made an effort to put a boatload ton of snails in his tank.
In the hopes that there would be so many he wouldn't be able to hunt them all.

Not sure how well it's working currently as I can hear the occasional ping of him attacking yet another snail.
But I'm crossing my fingers that the snails will succeed in cleaning up the algae in the tank before Mushu has them all for brunch.

I'll be watching the leaves.

Lights Out

Occasionally in the store we would get customers who would comment "It's rather dark in here."

Which always confused me.
Because...no it wasn't?
I mean the lights were on.
We could see everything.
It wasn't dim at all.

But apparently....that's because I never knew anything different lol.
Or else the six years I've been at my work was long enough to forget what 'real' lighting is.

As our new head manager managed to get approval to replace all the lightbulbs in our ceiling that were out.

Which I knew we had some lights out. I mean we've always had some lights out.

After all...we can't just climb up a ladder to reach the ceiling to change out bulbs. No. The ceilings are way too high.
So it wasn't anything I really paid attention to.

But our new head manager did.
Noticed how 'dark' it was.

Even though I thought we had plenty of light.

Nope.

Apparently we had 129 lightbulbs that were out in the store. ()_()

Which is a lot when you think about it.
Though I think that's only like...maybe a third of our lightbulbs? Maybe a fourth?

I have no idea. Each hood thing holds like 8 lightbulbs (those long tube lights) And almost every single hood thing had at least one if not more bulbs out.

And for the past day or so.
This guy has come in for a bit (until his cool moving lift ladder thing runs outta battery) to get up to the lights and replace them.

And wow.
It's so bright in the store now.
Like seriously.
It's a huge difference.

I get it now when people say the store was 'dark'
It actually was.

I mean not dark dark.
But yah. It's like comparing evening light with noon light.
You can still see. But the noon light sure gives you a lot more detail and clarity than the evening light would.

Unfortunately we still have like 20 more bulbs that need to be replaced. -as the dude's ladder thing died and needed to be recharged.

Still though. I look forward to seeing the entire store with full lights.
Because the 3/4ths of the store that does is so bright right now.
It's weird.

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!
