Returning to Hogwarts

It came out last night.

The New Harry Potter book!

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

Okay....so technically it isn't a book book.
It's a book of the script of the play that is now showing over in the UK.

But it's a new story!
A new set of adventures.
With both old and new characters.

And I have to say it was a ton of fun to read!

Just to visit the world again.
To get into the magic, to see how the characters have changed and grown.

And what new problems have arisen.

And wow.

All the twists and turns and unexpected things that happened?!

It was crazy!!
I really wish I could see this in person.
Because just from reading it, the play sounds amazing!

I'd love to see it turn into a full length movie.
Or even an actual book with more details and scenes and the like.

I loved it.

I loved it so much that I managed to read the entire thing in like 2 hours. :) lol.

325 pages. in 2 hours.

I mean, it's in script formant. So it's actually a pretty quick page turner. ^^

I can't wait for more people to read it,
So I can talk to them about it.

Because I thoroughly enjoyed going on that adventure. :)

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

The New Bed

I don't like last minute change of plans.
Like....you have one way you think things are going to go.
And then....something blind sides you...and you end up having to do something completely different than you wanted to do.

That's what happened last night.
Just after midnight.

I was planning to stay up a bit.
As I could because I didn't have work in the morning.
Which meant I could let my night owl self fly free.

And then I had to go check my mail...after midnight.

When I should have been asleep.

I guess it's a good thing I did.

Because what did that Email say?

It was from my apartment complex, saying that they would be coming into the apartments at 9am in the morning tomorrow.
Which since it was after midnight. Meant. Today.

What were they going to do then?
They were replacing all our old beds.

With brand new ones.
Not just like a new mattress.
But also completely new frames.

Which is super cool.

But in order to do that....
We have to have everything off the bed.
Everything out from under the bed.
And the floors completely clear.

Because the frames were going to be so massive....
That they would need to be built within the room.

And guess what?

My bedroom met none of those requirements.
>.<

So Instead of relaxing the evening hours away doing what I wanted to do.

I had to go through my room.
and pull everything out from under the bed, and clean my floor, and make sure most of my stuff was off my bed so I could easily pull it off in the morning when they came.

*exhales*
It was a good thing I was already in the process of moving out of my room.
-Since I have my new place already and I can move stuff in there.

Because otherwise....there would be very few places to place the stuff I'd stuffed under my bed.

In any case.
I managed to get everything organized and away from the 'construction' area.
finishing....at like 4 am.

-Granted I was distracted for a couple of hours as a tv series I'm watching decided to have like seven cliff hanger episodes in a row....

But I got it all clean!!
And I got to go to bed!

And.....then they woke me up at 9:37 the moving guys.

>.< Because apparently they don't realize that people like to sleep in a bit on Saturdays.

They came into the apt, and proceeded to move everything out.
Box spring, frame, but they left my mattress there for now, as the new ones hadn't yet arrived.

*shakes head*
It's crazy.
The new beds are MASSIVE!!
Like, super tall.

-As they went with ones that you can fit drawers in underneath.
(though the drawer part won't arrive for a few more days wither.)

But it's like climbing a mountain now to get on my bed.
:S
You can't just come into the room and flop.
No you have to jump and then flop.

You see here's a Before Picture:

And this is the After Picture:

This thing is crazy huge!!
Honestly I feel like it takes up the whole entire room. O.o

And sitting on it?
It feels like I'm either Queen of the World, over looking all my subjects.

Or a sacrifice set upon an alter.

It's weird.
Sleeping on it is weird.

It's so high up.

It's basically a bunk bed in all reality.
There's just no bed underneath, though you could probably have someone sleep underneath it with no issues.

So crazy.

I'm kinda glad that I'm moving out.
So that I can be on bed closer to the ground.
But this will be fun for the next couple weeks for sure. ;)

I'll be watching the leaves.

Party Time?

....Why do I get a bad feeling about this??
You know you're not going to find the answers you need in there right?

()_() Oh.

I guess I shouldn't have judged a book by it's titl---Hey! WAIT A SECOND?!?! WHERE DID ALL THESE BABY CHICKS COME FROM IN THE FIRST PLACE?!?!
....I'll have to get to the bottom of this mystery another day.....  For now.... PARTY TIME!!

True Giving

In much of the world, we are entering upon unsettled economic times.
Let us look after one another the very best we can.
I remember the story of a Vietnamese family that fled Saigon in 1975 and ended up living in a small mobile home in Provo, Utah.
A young man in the refugee family became the home teaching companion to a Brother Johnson who lived nearby with his large family.
The boy related the following:

"One day Brother Johnson noticed that our family had no kitchen table.
He appeared the next day with an odd-looking but very functional table that fit nicely against the trailer wall across from the kitchen sink and counters.
I say odd-looking because two of the table legs matched the tabletop and two did not.
Also, several small wooden pegs stuck out along one edge of the worn surface.

"Soon we used this unique table daily for food preparation and for eating some quick meals.
We still ate our family meals while we sat on the floor ... in true Vietnamese fashion.

"One evening I stood inside Brother Johnson's front door as I waited for him before a home teaching appointment.
There in the nearby kitchen--I was surprised to see it--was a table practically identical to the one they had given to my family.
The only difference was that where our table had pegs, the Johnsons' table had holes!
I then realized that, seeing our need, this charitable man had cut his kitchen table in half and had built two new legs for each half.

"It was obvious that the Johnson family could not fit around this small piece of furniture--they probably didn't fit comfortably around it when it was whole. ...
"Throughout my life this kind act has been a powerful reminder of true giving."

Rocks Online

It's no secret, that I enjoy collecting different stones/crystals.

The Gem Faire whenever it comes into town is my favorite local thing to go to. :)

But they only come to town like three times a year.

And the last Gem Faire was a couple of months ago.

Yet, recently I'd been wanting to get more stones.

Enough that I'd been looking at the different rocks that Amazon offers.

But I was wary of getting anything off the Internet.

Because picking out a rock is based on if you like the look of it. The feel of it. the price of it.

If you order a rock online....
You basically just get whatever they send you.
And you may not like what they send you...
So you'd basically waste money....
Which I don't like doing. Y_Y

Still.
I was looking for fun.
And came across this particular orb called a Bloodstone.
It's a greenish shade jasper stone that has red splotches in it.

The legend is that when Christ was stabbed, and his blood dripped to the ground, it became the bloodstone.

And it's used as a protection stone. To stop bullying that's emotional and physical. But can also bring courage and strength to the person wearing/holding the stone.

Which I felt I needed right now.

But I didn't want to buy a stone online...
So I made a mental note to try and find one next time I was at the Gem Faire, or if I got a chance to check out those rock shops.

However.
I kept thinking about it.
Kept looking at the picture online.
Kept thinking about it some more.

And decided to test the waters.
And buy the stone.

Just to see how well the online shopping would do in grabbing a stone for me.

I have no idea if the people who sell the rocks just grab one and send it off.
Or if they take a moment to consider which rock would be best to send to this mystery owner.

In any case.
My stone arrived the other day. :)

I opened it at the mailbox.
So I could be the first one to see it and not have it exposed to the energy in the apartment.

And it's soo pretty!!
It has some nice red splotches to it.
Though it's not as green, it's a greyish shade more.

But I love it!!
It looks great, feels great, and was for a good price. :D lol

So this time.
It went well ordering online.

I may just do it again.
We'll see. :)

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

You Must Have!

There I was.
In church.
Catching up with a couple friends of mine that I hadn't seen in a month.
Mostly because we kept missing each other.
They'd be gone.
I'd be gone.
I'd be gone again.

But finally we were able to actually be in the same place and the same time!
And what did we discuss?

Cookies.

Mostly in that they'd stayed up waaaaay too late to make these Reese's cookies.
And somehow it got onto the topic of me and my sister's 'famous' chocolate chip cookies.

To which one friend was like.
O.o "I don't think I've ever had them."

And my thought process was.
()_() WHAT?!?!
No. No you've had them!
We make these cookies all the time, you've had them at some point!

But then I was talking to Kikay, and she was like "Well....maybe they haven't had them. I haven't made them in a while."

And I was like. NO. They've had them!! With all the Sunday dinners we've done together, they must have had them at some point for dessert.

But my friend was positive that they hadn't had them.

Which got my brain a running.
With the concept that I would make the cookies!
Then take them over to my friend, to have them try it.
So they would know for sure if they had them or not.

That's exactly what I did.

I got all the ingredients together.
Made the cookies.

Took them over to my friend's place.
To their surprise. lol.
And gave them a plate of cookies.

And the result?

My friend still says that they haven't had the cookies before.
O.o
o.O

.....I'm still absolutely positive that they have. It's just been a few years probably......

In any case.
At least they were delicious!! lol :) And my friend liked eating them, so even bigger bonus. :)

Yay for random efforts. ;)

October 2010 General Conference -Sunday Afternoon

L. Tom Perry -The Priesthood of Aaron
  • "I am not overly pleased with worldly conditions that you and other young men are inheriting as you assume your role in moving toward manhood. While those of us who are older have been of an age and position to influence the world, I believe that we've greatly failed you in what we have allowed to conditions in the world to become. This places you in a position where many of those with whom you must associate have not been reared with an understanding of or respect for traditional values. Thus, peer pressure becomes much more difficult and extreme.
  • The flip of a switch right in your own home has the potential of destroying within you a sense of what is right and what is wrong.
  • The more things change, the more they stay the same--except for technology.
David A. Bednar -Receive the Holy Ghost
  • These four words--"Receive the Holy Ghost"--are not a passive pronouncement; rather, they constitute a priesthood injunction--an authoritative admonition to act and not simply to be acted upon. The Holy Ghost does not become operative in our lives merely because hands are placed upon our heads and those four important words are spoken. As we receive this ordinance, each of us accepts a sacred and ongoing responsibility to desire, to seek, to work, and to so live that we indeed "receive the Holy Ghost" and its attendant spiritual gifts.
  • "Tell the people to be humble and faithful and [be] sure to keep the Spirit of the Lord and it will lead them right. Be careful and not turn away the small still voice; it will teach [you what] to do and where to go; it will yield the fruits of the kingdom. Tell the brethren to keep their hearts open to conviction so that when the Holy Ghost comes to them, their hearts will be ready to receive it. They can tell the Spirit of the Lord from all other spirits. It will whisper peace and joy to their souls, and it will take malice, hatred, envying, strife, and all evil from their hearts; and their whole desire will be to o good, bring forth righteousness, and build upon the kingdom of God. Tell the brethren if they will follow the Spirit of the Lord they will go right."
Larry R. Lawrence -Courageous Parenting
  • "Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid."
  • Challenges and temptations are coming at our teenagers with the speed and power of a freight train. As we are reminded in the family proclamation, parents are responsible for the protection of their children. That means spiritually as well as physically.
  • "Parenting is not a popularity contest."
  • "Sometimes we are afraid of our children--afraid to counsel with them for fear of offending them."
  • Young people understand more than we realize because they too have the gift of the Holy Ghost. They are trying to recognize the Spirit when He speaks, and they are watching our example. From us they learn to pay attention to their promptings--that if they "don't feel good about something," it's best not to pursue it.
  • It's so important for husbands and wives to be united when making parenting decisions. If either parent doesn't feel good about something, then permission should not be granted.
  • Brothers and sisters, if your spouse doesn't feel good about something, show respect for those feelings. When you take the easy way out by saying and doing nothing, you may be enabling destructive behavior.
  • "When morality is involved we have both the right and the obligation to raise a warning voice."
  • I have always believed that nothing really good happens late at night and that young people need to know what time they are expected to come home.
  • There is a great deal of wisdom displayed when parents stay up and wait for their children to return home. Young men and women make far better choices when they know their parents are waiting up to hear about their evening and to kiss them good night.
  • Courageous parenting does not always involve saying no. Parents also need courage to say yes to the counsel of modern day prophets.
Per G. Malm -Rest unto Your Souls
  • The thoughts that we dwell on inside our minds, the feelings we foster inside our hearts, and the actions we choose to take will all have a determining impact on our lives, both here and in the hereafter.
  • A helpful habit is to lift our vision daily in order to maintain an eternal perspective of the things we plan and do, especially if we detect a tendency to wait until a future tomorrow to do what we know we should pursue while we have our present today.
  • In our day-to-day actions, it is often the small and simple things that will have a long-lasting impact.
  • When we learn to handle the small and simple daily things in a wise and inspired way, the result is a positive influence that will solidify harmony in our souls and build up and strengthen those around us.
Jairo Mazzagardi -Avoiding the Trap of Sin
  • We must be alert because small choices can bring great consequences.
  • "Arise early, that your bodies and your minds may be invigorated." Those how go to bed early wake up rested, with the body and mind invigorated and blessed by the Lord because of obedience.
  • We must be alert not to let sin grow around us.
  • If we sin, we must look for help quickly because alone we cannot escape sin's trap, just as the proverbial fence post cannot free itself. Someone must help us get rid of the deadly embrace.
Mervyn B. Arnold -What Have You Done with My Name?
  • "A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold."
  • When you remember your names ... ye may remember their works; and when ye remember their works ye may know how that it is said, and also written, that they were good.
  • "Therefore, my sons, I would that ye should do that which is good, that it may be said of you, and also written, even as it has been said and written of them.
  • "While [we] are free to choose for [ourselves], [we] are not free to choose the consequences of [our] actions. When [we] make a choice, [we] will receive the consequences of that choice."
  • Our kind, wise, and loving Heavenly Father has given us commandments not to restrict us, as the adversary would have us believe, but to bless our lives and to protect our good name and our legacy for future generations.
M. Russell Ballard -O That Cunning Plan of the Evil One
  • Lucifer knows our "hunger," or weaknesses, and tempts us with counterfeit lures which, if taken, can cause us to be yanked from the stream of life into his unmerciful influence.
  • Lucifer will not voluntarily let go. His goal is to make his victims as miserable as he is.
  • Brothers and sisters, stay away from any kind of substance that may trap you. Even one sniff of something or one pill or one drink of alcohol can lead to addiction.
  • Now, brothers and sisters, please don't misunderstand what I am saying. I'm not questioning prescription medications for those suffering with treatable illness or great physical pain. They are indeed a blessing. What I am saying is that we need to carefully follow the doses prescribed by doctors. And we need to keep such medications in a safe place where youngsters or anyone else cannot gain access to them.
  • Remember, brothers and sisters, any kind of addiction is to surrender to something, thus relinquishing agency and becoming dependent. Thus, video-gaming and texting on cell phones need to be added to the list.
  • Jesus said, "I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."
Thomas S. Monson -Till We Meet Again
  • Though we are far removed from many of you, we feel of your spirit and send our love and appreciation to you.
  • We live in a troubled world, a world of many challenges to the best of our ability, to learn form them, and to overcome them. Endure to the end we must, for our goal is eternal life in the presence of our Father in Heaven. He loves us and wants nothing more than for us to succeed in this goal. He will help us and bless us as we call upon Him in our prayers, as we study His words, and as we obey His commandments. Therein is found safety; therein is found peace.

I'll be watching the leaves.

Back Already??

I've always been close with my family.
My siblings, my parents. I get along really well with them.

To which....many people find weird.
O.o
Apparently you're not supposed to be on good terms with all your family members.
From talking to other people, it's like you have one good family member that you're super close with.
And then the others....not so much.

But....it's not like that with me and my family.
We all (now that us children are grown and out of our 's/he's touching me!' phases) get along really well. We have a good time spending time together.
Like to get together.
Hang out.

Do family things.

So whenever I get the chance to drive up to Hometown and spend time with family.
I always try and stay as long as possible.

Like...I'll drive back to collegetown towards midnight 'as late as possible'

Because I like being around my family.
And I like spending time with them.

So it boggles my mind.
When others are like.
"Oh yah....I just saw my family for an hour or so, before coming back."

And I'm like....why?
Why not stay longer if you can?
I mean you made the effort to drive up, why not hang around and spend more time with them??

I dunno.
I mean, I understand people don't all have the same family dynamics.

And I tend to like being home as it's a more positive energy zone than my current place. So I want to stay in the good energy zone with my family for as long as possible before heading out away from that.....
So maybe that's why it boggles my mind.
Because I'm not currently in a place that I want to return to.
So the thought that people actually want to return to their homes quickly after going to visit family would make sense.

Maybe I'll understand....
Or maybe I won't. lol.

Still.
I'm grateful I have a zone that I can go to where I get along with my family members. ^^

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.

Blinded by the Light

Major guilt trip happening right now.
Which is annoying.
Because 1. Nobody got hurt. And 2. Its not like I can go back in time and change anything.

It was just like...Emotions went on high alert as I was halfway terrified for my life.

Why?
Well...
It was my fault.

I nearly caused a car accident. T_T

So.
It was evening time.
Sun not yet at the horizon, but it was setting.

And with the roads where I live....
If you drive along certain roads.
You totally get blinded by that sun when it hits the right evening angle.

I was out driving.
Heading to a friends house to watch a movie.
And I'd just pulled onto the street in front of her place.
There was a car behind me.
So I pulled over to the right side of the road in preparation to make a U-turn so I could park in front of her place.
The street in front of me had been clear. As in, I hadn't seen any cars coming.
Glanced in the mirror, and saw that the car behind me had turned into a driveway behind me.

So I thought my way was clear.
So I swung out in the middle of the road to make that U-Turn.

All I remember is that the Sunlight was super bright.
Then there was this long HOOOONNNKKKK of a car horn.
Which startled me.
As the road had been clear!!
I looked widely around.
Looked to my right and saw this fancy white corvette type car. like a foot from my car.
Laying into the car horn like there was no tomorrow.

I panicked.
Like "CRAP!! I gotta get out of the road!!"
And I was like. I have no idea if anyone is behind me.
And backing up at this point felt like a bad idea.
So I completed the U-turn, as I figured that that was the fastest way to get out of the white car's path.
But instead of buzzing around me flipping my the bird or whatever angry drivers do nowadays.
The white car stayed behind me.
I signaled with my blinker, that I was pulling off.
Which I was. Since this happened in front of my friend's place.

And this white car with this Domino's Pizza delivery sign on top pulls up next to me. :S
There's this guy in the car.
Gesturing angry like the "What in the world were you thinking!! Did you not see me?! I could have hit you!!"
Which luckily he didn't and I didn't.

Because someone was paying attention to the road. -_-

I gestured in apologies, mouthing I was sorry, but he wasn't leaving.
So I rolled down my window.
And in that terrified girly apologetic voice I was like "I'm sorry! So sorry! I didn't see you!! I'm sorry. The light blinded me. I didn't see you!"
Which with the repeated apologies seemed to calm him down a bit.

And with a handful of more apologies.
He drove off.

Probably thinking "Stupid girl drivers." Or something like that.

But honestly.
I had no idea he was there.
He really came out of nowhere for me.
It had been like what...5 seconds? Between pulling over to the side of the road, checking my mirror, and then attempting that U-Turn.
I didn't see him. At. All.

luckily he saw me.
Because with the sun in my eyes. I probably would have never seen him, nor known that he'd been there had he not gone crazy with the horn.

Thankfully....he probably thought I was a young inexperienced driver. Fresh to college or whatever. (as I look rather young for my age)
So he hopefully won't think much more on it....hopefully.
fingers crossed right?

*sighs*
In any case.
We're both safe.
Both cars undamaged.

But I can't help feeling guilty about the whole thing.
Even hours and hours later.

Because it could have been a lot worse.

And it's that "What if." scenario that has me feeling guilty about the whole incident.

Not a great way to end the day for sure....

Note to self: Watch out for Delivery guys. They can appear out of nowhere.

I'll be watching the leaves.

Santas On The Run -What Do Santas Eat?

I went into the kitchen and what did I see? A box of cookies where they shouldn't be.

I got closer and to my surprise. Saw the Santas trying to get inside!

They didn't take a bite or a single peek. NO! They had to go and eat ALL my favorite treats!!

Then I noticed one alone. So I looked around to see...

More Santas eating MORE of My Cookies!!

I thought it would end with the last of my cookies, but then... the Santas demanded MILK of me!!

Ha! There's no milk here! It upsets my poor Tummy. :S ....They were not happy at all with me.

They went to the fridge despite my cries....
 Oh....

They found the roomies' milk I tried to hide.

*sighs* Alright stop staring at me, I'll go and ask my roomies.

My roommates were in a giving mood today. So the Santas got their desired milk, Hooray!

Happy Santas. Happy Me. ....now if only they would go buy me more cookies....

Along the Track

Elder Graham W. Doxey, who once served in the Second Quorum of the Seventy, told me of an experience.
His mother, who was later a counselor in the Primary general presidency, also told me of this experience.

During World War II, he was in the navy posted to China.
He and several others went by train to the city of Tientsin to look around.

Later they boarded a train to return to their base, but after more than an hour, the train turned north.
They were on the wrong train!
They spoke no Chinese.
They pulled the emergency cord and stopped the train.
They were put off somewhere in the countryside with nothing to do but walk back to the city.

After walking for some time, they found a small pump-handle car, the kind that the railroad workers use.
They set it on the rails and began to pump their way along the tracks.
It would coast downhill, but it had to be pushed uphill.

As they came to one steep downhill slope, they scrambled aboard the car and began to coast.
Graham was the last to get aboard.
The only place left for him was in the front of the car.
He ran alongside and finally climbed daboard.
As he did so, he slipped and fell.
He was bouncing on his back with his feet against the car to keep from being run over.
As the car quickly gained speed, he heard his mother's voice say, "Bud, you be careful!"

He wore heavy military boots.
His foot slipped, and the thick sole of his boot caught in a gear of a wheel and stopped the car just one foot from his hand.

His parents who presiding over the East Central States Mission at the time, were sleeping in a hotel room.
His mother sat up at about 2:00 in the morning and awakened her husband: "Bud's in trouble!"
They knelt by the bed and prayed for the safety of their boy.

The next letter he received said, "Bud, what's wrong?
What happened to you?"

He then wrote to tell them what had happened.
When they compared times, at the very time he was bouncing along that track, his parents were on their knees in the hotel room half a world away, praying for his safety.

These experiences of promptings and prayer are not uncommon in the Church.
They are part of the revelation our Heavenly Father has provided for us.

Boxes VS. Books

One of the hardest thing about moving.
Is packing stuff into boxes.
But not only putting everything in a box.
It's all about putting everything into a box and being able to pick it up and carry it afterwards.
Putting everything into a box and being able to lift it without all the contents falling out of the bottom. :S

It's harder than it looks.
Especially when it involves packing boxes.
Honestly, it would be so simple to just stuff everything into one box.
But....books have a weight to them.
And it would be like lifting a small car if I tried to lift five shelves worth of hardback books.
:S

So it's a matter of dividing it out, spreading it between multiple boxes, and then finding lighter things to stuff into the boxes with the books so that you can still carry it, and don't end up carrying a half empty box around when moving.

It's a trial and error thing.
I packed up five boxes of books.
Only three of them managed to make the journey to the new place without the books falling out the bottom.

But hey, that's good odds for me. :) Three boxes successfully moved. Two boxes that needed to be reorganized and lightened.
Not bad. Not bad at all.

Of course, I still have a million other things that I need to move about.
But this was a start.
And a good reminder....
That I need to go slightly lighter when putting stuff in boxes. :) lol

I'll be watching the leaves.

Watching Movement

So, I went and saw The Secret Life of Pets today.

It was one of those movies where I was curious on how it would turn out.
Because it could be a great movie, or it could be a hohum movie.

It was a nice middle ground movie as it turns out.
I liked it a lot, no slow parts, no looking at my watch to see when it would be over, enough drama and curiosity to keep me interested and eyes on the screen. lol.

But the main thing I liked about the movie?

Was how accurately the animals were portrayed.

Which may be rather odd...once you think about it.

But considering that I work in a Petstore, and I'm constantly around animals.

I really enjoyed how accurate they were.
I mean....besides the talking parts. lol.

But the movements of the animals. Their behaviors, their reactions to things around them.

It was just really cool and intriguing to watch. ^^

To see them act like animals in real life would. :) I liked it.
A lot. :)

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

October 2010 General Conference -Sunday Morning

Henry B. Eyring -Trust in God, Then Go and Do
  • God knows you individually. He sends messages of encouragement, correction, and direction fitted to you and to your needs.
  • "I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them."
  • God does not rule in nations, but He is mindful of them. He can and does place people in positions of influence who want what is best for the people and who trust in the Lord.
Boyd K. Packer -Cleansing the Inner Vessel
  • "The Lord is voting for me, and Lucifer is voting against me, but it is my vote that counts."
  • Agency is precious. We can foolishly, blindly give it away, but it cannot be forcibly taken from us.
  • There is something very liberating when an individual determines of his or her own free will to be obedient to our Father and our God and express that willingness to Him in prayer.
  • We raise an alarm and warn members of the Church to wake up and understand what is going on. Parents, be alert, ever watchful that this wickedness might threaten your family circle.
  • We teach a standard of moral conduct that will protect us from Satan's many substitutes or counterfeits for marriage. We must understand that any persuasion to enter into any relationship that is not in harmony with the principles.
  • Some suppose that they were preset and cannot overcome what they feel are inborn temptations toward the impure and unnatural. Not so! Remember, God is our Heavenly Father.
  • "God ... will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it." You can, if you will, break the habits and conquer an addiction and come away from that which is not worthy of any member of the Church.
  • To legalize that which is basically wrong or evil will not prevent the pain and penalties that will follow as surely as night follows day.
  • Regardless of the opposition, we are determined to stay on course. We will hold to the principles and laws and ordinances of the gospel. If they are misunderstood either innocently or willfully, so be it. We cannot change; we will not change the moral standard. We quickly lose our way when we disobey the laws of God. If we do not protect and foster the family, civilization and our liberties must needs perish.
Jay E. Jensen -The Holy Ghost and Revelation
  • I have come to find solace and direction from the Comforter, another role of the Holy Ghost.
Mary N. Cook -Be an Example of the Believers
  • "We should never permit ourselves to do anything that we are not willing to see our children do. We should set them an example that we wish them to imitate."
Dallin H. Oaks -Two Lines of Communication
  • Our Heavenly Father has given His children two lines of communication with Him--what we may call the personal line and the priesthood line. All should understand and be guided by both of these essential lines of communication.
  • The personal line is of paramount importance in personal decisions and in the governance of the family. Unfortunately, some members of our church underestimate the need for this direct, personal line. Responding to the undoubted importance of prophetic leadership--the priesthood line, which operates principally to govern heavenly communications on Church matters- some seek to have their priesthood leaders make personal decisions for them, decisions they should make for themselves by inspiration through their personal line. Personal decisions and family governance are principally a matter for the personal line.
  • Some members or former members of our church fail to recognize the importance of the priesthood line. They underestimate the importance of the Church and its leaders and its programs. Relying entirely on the personal line, they go their own way, purporting to define doctrine and to direct competing organizations contrary to the teachings of prophet-leaders. In this they mirror the modern hostility to what is disparagingly called "organized religion." Those who reject the need for organized religion reject the work of the Master, who established His Church and its officers in the meridian of time and who reestablished them in modern times.
Thomas S. Monson -The Divine Gift of Gratitude
  • "When you walk with gratitude, you do not walk with arrogance and conceit and egotism, you walk with a spirit of thanksgiving that is becoming to you and will bless your lives."
  • 'He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those who he has."
  • "Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parents of all others."
  • "The grateful man sees so much in the world to be thankful for, and with him the good outweighs the evil. Love overpowers jealousy, and light drives darkness out of his life."
  • "Pride destroys our gratitude and set up selfishness in its place. How much happier we are in the presence of a grateful and loving soul, and how careful we should be to cultivate, through the medium of a prayerful life, a thankful attitude toward God and man!"
  • The English author Aldous Huxley wrote, "Most human beings have an almost infinite capacity for taking things for granted."
