Noise Noise Noise

I don't know if campfires will ever smell the same way again.

I mean they will.
But I don't know if they'll always have the same connotation as they had before June.
When the fire nearly took our house.
Before this summer.
When our valley has been plagued with smoke from multiple forest fires burning in the mountains.

It's smelt far too much of smoke this year.
That's for sure.

And more of it was added to the air today.
When a fire in the valley below us broke out.

I was only alerted to it because I could hear the sirens.
Sirens that continued on and on and on.

With it getting louder with more police cars and sirens joining in.

It lasted for like ten or fifteen minutes these sirens.
Far longer than they should for a car accident.

So. Something serious was happening.
I walked out onto our balcony.
And saw the smoke burning near the road I usually take to go to work.
>.>
I couldn't be sure.

But I think the fire was happening by one of the construction sites. Or in one of the construction sites.
I'll have to see if I can see anything tomorrow when I go to work.
--though considering it will still be dark....I probably won't see much.

Definitely a tense moment.
Watching that smoke.
Listening to the fires.
Smelling that campfire smell of wood burning.

*exhales*
It's definitely going to be a while before I stop getting tense over that scent.
Stop looking over my shoulder wondering if the flames will be at the foot of the house again....

*shakes head*

Don't. Ask.

Saturday's are the hardest days for me to work.
Not because it's the weekend.
But because of all the customer service I have to do.
There's more people in the store.
More rushes.
More energy I have to expend towards talking to people instead of doing tasks like cleaning or something.
So by the end of the day.
I'm tired.
Drained.

Usually it hasn't been a big deal to work Saturdays.
I mean, they switched me from working evenings to mornings.
Which has been great because evenings are far more draining.

But recently.

….Because I've had to go home a couple of times due to major headaches making it difficult to...well stand up straight and talk to people....

One of my managers has taken to asking me, on Saturdays: "Do you have a headache today?" "How's your head?" "No headaches today?"

Which is what happened today.
And usually I don't have a headache when this question was asked.

>.<
So I answer. "No! I'm good!"

Only guess what?

Yah like an hour or two later an ache developed behind my eyes, turning into a full blown headache towards the end of my shift.

*exhales*

Basically.
People need to stop asking me if I have a headache.
Because I feel like it triggers my brain to go "Oh. I don't! I should shouldn't I?" And WHAM headache. >.< Gah.

I mean.
It's other things as well.
Just the general overall stress of dealing with people for almost 8 hours.... it drains.

But I really wish I could get through a Saturday shift without getting a headache.
As it feels like the last couple of months that's all that's happened every Saturday. XP

I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Staggering About

I think I might have gotten a spider drunk.

You see.
I went into the bathroom this morning.
And saw the creepy crawly scuttling around the baseboards, then onto the garbage can...then onto the toilet before crawling onto the floor headed straight for me.

There was no way I was having the creature anywhere near me.
And I had no jar handy to trap the thing.
(No I wasn't going to squash it.)

So I grabbed the nearest thing at hand.
A bottle of scented spray.
Aiming it at the creature.
I sprayed him a good six or seven times, convincing him to move away from me and in the opposite direction.

And the poor creature.
He made a good effort.
But after scuttling like two inches from me.
The poor creature began to wobble.
It's legs struggling to hold it upright as it swayed to the right and to the left.
Walking like a man who'd had too much to drink.

:S I felt rather bad.
Wondering if I had killed it then and there as it half curled up, straightened to walk, took two or three steps, before curling up again.

It ended up crawling over to the toilet again, and around it. Vanishing from easy view.

:S So I don't know if I ended up killing it or not.

But I do feel bad for the poor thing.
I hadn't meant to dizzyfy it like that...
Only to get it away from me. :S

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Two Years

So for the past two years. I've been having to consistently hear the same statement at least a dozen times a week. If not more than once a day from customers.

They'd get my attention.
Point upwards and go: "There's a bird loose in your store."

Which. Makes sense. You don't want a loose bird in a store because a loose bird means a bird you can't exactly sell.

Only.
This wasn't one of our birds.
And there was more than one of them in the store.

You see we occasionally have wild birds end up stuck inside the store because they somehow got stuck inside our trucks and when we open up the trucks to get our product....the birds seize their chance at freedom...and fly into our store.

Most of the time, when we end up opening the big back door to take out our trash and such, the birds fly out on their own.

But occasionally...they choose to stick around.
We once had like an entire flock of ten or so that got stuck in our store (added to over time, not all at once) and we had to call in a company to capture the birds and release them outside for us.

In any case.
About two years ago.
We ended up with two sparrows in our store.
Wild ones.
They came in just before winter hit.
And therefore, chose to stay inside where it was warm and there was an easy source of food and water with no prey threat instead of venturing out into the cold harsh weather.

When spring came....we expected them to just....leave.
Only they didn't.

For TWO YEARS. those birds have been in our store.
And I've often wondered why we didn't just call that company to come get the birds like we had before.
Because they obviously weren't leaving.

I mean, we managed to catch one like six months ago, tossed it outside....and it flew right back in. *shakes head*

Which meant we were constantly dealing with them chirping over our heads and pooping over everything and....of course....having customers come tell us that there was a bird loose in the store.

*exhales*
Honestly....if the customer noticed within 15 minutes of being in the store that there was a bird loose....surely the people who WORK there would realize just as quickly. I mean...I'm in the store five days a week for up to eight hours a day.

I KNOW there's birds in the store. I got it.  I see them flying around all the time.
It's not like a loose hamster or snake in the store that hides in dark corners until the people are gone and then come out.
The birds are noisy, visible, and constantly landing nearby.
We know there's birds there.

And time and time again I would have to explain. "They're wild birds." yadda yadda yadda.

TWO YEARS.

And finally yesterday, a company showed up to capture the birds and get them out of our store.
-They only managed to catch one of the two, so they'll have to come back--

But the reason why they were only called now?

Because we got a new Head Manager.
As the old Head Manager didn't want to call the company and spend the money to get the birds out of the store.
So instead that HM chose to tolerate constantly cleaning up after the birds and the messes they made and discounting products because they'd been soiled by said birds....instead of calling the company to come get them. FOR TWO YEARS.

The New Guy?
Not so much.
He was like "I want them gone by next week."
*shakes head*

It's gonna be weird though.
To not have them flying overhead.

>.>
Though I suspect once the company comes and gets the remaining bird....
That we'll probably end up with more in the store in the next month or so. *shakes heads* lol it will be just our luck really.

Guess time will tell. ^^;;

I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Waiting to Redecorate

It's all a matter of patience.
And really, some days I can surprise myself with how patient I can be.

Like...for example.
For at least a month...maybe two now...possibly three.
I've been wanting to redecorate my fishtank.

Nothing major....I mostly want to take out all the plants and clean them up a bit...and get rid of the ones that have become too grimy...and then put in new plants....specifically ones that will light up underneath a blue light so that it will 'glow in the dark.'

The desire's been around for a while, ever since I got new lights for my tank (when one burned out) that allows me to now have a blue light. And since I found that some of my plants within already light up underneath this blue light.
I wanted to add in more so I could have a decorated tank both under white and blue lights lol.

Which would also mean I would be buying more Glofish to put into my tank as well.
So there would be both fish and plants to look at when the blue lights come on. :D

Only....Glofish are some of the more pricey fish.
So I was waiting for them to go on sale before buying them.
Which. This month they did go on sale!

However...
>.>
Illness struck my tank.
In the form of odd wounds on the side and fungus on the body.

That's taken three of my fish in the past week....but also took fish earlier in the month as well. Before I went on vacation.

And I don't want to add in fish while the tank is going through a die off.
And I don't want to add in new decorations because sometimes the chemicals can change the color of the decorations.

So I want the tank to be healthy before I venture forth in my plans of redecorating.

But...it's definitely frustrating.
To have this plan.
Only for fish to get sick.
Only to go on vacation.
Only for more fish to get sick.

*exhales*
Not sure what's going on.
But hopefully after this round of treatment finishes, I'll be able to get my tank looking all shiny, bright and happy again. :D

Wish me luck. :D

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

On My Own

It really shouldn't bug me anymore.
I mean.
I knew it was going to happen.
As it usually happens whenever my manager is scheduled to open with me.

Things just end up not working in my favor....
Meaning the manager doesn't help out in the department even though he's scheduled to help out because other 'more pressing' issues come into play.

It was just one of those days where I found it to be more frustrating.
Mostly because I knew we could have had the coverage needed....if the schedule hadn't been so skimpy in my department this week.

I mean from 11-130 today there were only THREE of us in the store. Me, a manager, and the cashier.
Which if the manager was playing Sales Coach.
That meant that I would be the one who would be in charge of a) helping customers find things b) answering the phone and c) backup cashiering.

Which isn't a big deal.
WHEN I HAVE AN ACTUAL SECOND OPENER.

but today was Small Pet Bedding change day.
The Longest bedding change.
Like on a good day with NO CUSTOMER interference it would take like 3 hours to do.

Me. I started the thing at like 7:30 in the morning. And didn't get it done until like 1:30ish?
Because of customer interference. That's SIX Hours.

And I STILL had to finish opening the rest of the department.
Because despite the manager's good intentions of actually being in the department for the 2 hours he'd been scheduled to help out with....
He only ended up helping out for like...15 minutes?
Because he was the only manager in the building for that first hour he was in my department.
Which meant he needed to be present on the sales floor, and go help with manager related issues -i.e. when the cashier needs a manager override. Plus he'd been doing Stocking before switching over to my department, and was 'finishing' up things there.....

*exhales*
Really.
I shouldn't be annoyed.
I'm quite used to opening the department by myself.

But frankly. I think it just bugs me when I'm expecting help...and then I don't get it.
Like if  I know for sure that I'm opening by myself, then great. All's good. Because I can plan for it that way.

I mean, I probably would have been fine with it today as well. Because it's a consistent enough issue that the manager won't be able to work in the department when scheduled that I plan for it to happen that way.

Except today it wasn't as nice. For the simple fact that there were only 3 of us in the store.
I hate feeling short handed.
And I definitely felt short handed today.
*exhales*

Yah...stressful day.

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Calling an Ambulance

It started with a simple text from my brother.
I was in the middle of doing the bedding change -working on cleaning the dishes and such- when I felt my pocket vibrate.
I pull out my phone to see my brother asking if I knew Mother Dearest's work number.
Which since it had changed recently (like a year ago) I didn't have it memorized, though I had saved it in my phone.
So I sent him the number.

And didn't think much more of it.
Beyond "Huh. Wonder why brother needs her work number?"
-Honestly it was probably because he tried her cell and couldn't reach her.
But then again it was like...why does brother need to talk to mom?

It seemed like a weird thing. Especially since it was only 10 am. I'd thought my brother would have been in the middle of work....so really there wasn't a reason to need her number....

-Turns out he wasn't at work as he had a doctor's appointment.

In any case.
Three minutes later he texts back. "Are you sure that's it? She's not answering and Dad is heading to the hospital."

()_()
Wait.
Hold. on.
WHAT?!?!

Pause while my brain catches up.

-I was like "Yah, that's her number unless it changed again. WHY IS DAD HEADING TO THE HOSPITAL!"
And I tried calling Mom then and there to see my luck with it.
-I had the luck. She picked up. And I was like "DAD'S HEADING TO THE HOSPITAL AND BROTHER'S TRYING TO CALL YOU!"
And she was like "Yah, I know. Our Neighbor is picking me up to take me to the hospital."

At the same time Brother was like "Dad's hip stopped working and he can't move."

()_() WHAT?!?!

-As like a month ago, Daddoo had gone into surgery to have his hip replaced.

So automatically I was like !!!!!!!! AHHH!!!
Because if his hip wasn't working was he paralyzed? Was he broken? Was he going to lose his leg?!

-You know the writer sort...we automatically jump to worst case scenarios when dealing with the unknown. ^^;; lol.

But yah.
I had a bit of a breakdown back behind the fish wall because like...I didn't know how bad it was.

Brother was only able to say that Daddoo couldn't move his hip anymore and that they were calling an ambulance to take him to the hospital. And since Brother was in town he'd go right over as soon as he was done with his own doctor's appointment.

So like... AHHHH
Calling an ambulance?
It had to be serious.

-Yet when I texted Daddoo...he was able to text me back with more coherency...which helped to assuage my fears. Though I was still like "Why are they taking you via ambulance? What's wrong!"

It was another hour before Mother Dearest texted Kikay and I to say that Dad had dislocated his hip.
Aka the ball had pulled free from the socket.
And it was bad in the x-ray I later saw.
Like the ball was above the socket, not just slightly pulled away, but nearly sitting on top of it. :S *shudders*

Thankfully. They were able to pop his hip back into place -after placing Daddoo on strong pain meds so that his muscles would relax enough to be able to do so- which means he didn't need to do surgery or anything. *sigh of relief*

But it was definitely a tense day at work because I was worried for Daddoo the entire shift and such.

And as soon as I got off work -by this time the parents were home from the ER- I called then and there in the parking lot of work to get the story. To hear what happened.

Apparently Daddoo had been sitting on the porch and moved wrong. -He'd been sitting too low for someone recovering from hip surgery- and screamed so loud that it brought the neighbor across the street dashing over to his aid.
Dad was in so much pain he couldn't move.
So the neighbor across the street, darted next door to grab that neighbor and together the two of them were like "Do we move him into the van? Can we move him into my van?"
But they decided he was in too much pain to do so. So they called the ambulance and as soon as it showed up, my next door neighbor was darting to her car to go drive to my Mom's work to pick her up. (as Mom took the bus into work today)

-Which Mother Dearest was in the middle of meetings when all this was going down. So she looks at her phone, sees a few missed calls, texts them back that she's in the meeting and gets my neighbor's text of "I'M COMING TO GET YOU! HUSBAND IS HEADING TO THE HOSPITAL!"

So yah Mother Dearest was like "GOTTA GO!" to her boss and left.

At the same time Kikay too was in meetings for her work, and didn't answer her phone until I texted her saying that Daddoo was heading to the hospital and she was like ().() WHAT?!

So yah....we were all in a bit of a panic mode today.

But thankfully Meralto was able to get to the hospital, and gave Daddoo a blessing.
And the doctors were able to easily get him sorted out and such, as apparently it's something that does happen on occasion to people who are at this point in recovery from hip surgery when they're Daddoo's age. And that if it was going to happen...this would be the point it would happen. :S

Thankfully, Daddoo is doing well now.
Feeling basically as good as he did before he dislocated his hip.

But yah...stressful day in the Dirchi household.
I'm glad it all turned out well though.
*sigh of relief*

That's definitely one way to start out the week. *shakes head*

Why Do I Try?

There are times when I wonder why I try.
Because like...it feels like it often ends up that I get the short end of the stick.

*exhales*
So. I haven't been in the best of head spaces the past couple of days.
Just...a lot of stress, expectations, uncertainties and the like have got me down.

So when I woke up today to go to church.
I nearly decided to not go. To not be around people.
Because usually the best way to get my 'energy' back and a 'pep' back into my step...is to go be a hermit for a while and hide out in my room to recharge my batteries.

But.
I did go to church.
Because I hadn't been in the past couple of weeks due to being on vacation.
So I figured it would be a good thing for me to go.

It wasn't bad.
Until I sat down that is.

You see, me and the roomies usually sit in the back when we come in. Each of us has our reasons. But mostly...we like sitting in the back. lol.

Except our new roomie.
She likes to sit closer to the front.
Which is where I like to sit on occasion. Because occasionally I like to feel like a part of the crowd.

Today.
Me and the other two roomies were late.
Our new roomie had gone earlier and already sat down.
Towards the front. Like she tends to do.
Sometimes we join her.
Sometimes we don't.

Today, the other two roomies beelined it for the back.
Which would have been my inclination as well.
Except I saw our new roomie sitting by herself.

So I decided to sit by her instead.
Which ended up putting me nearby a guy.

I didn't think much of it....for like thirty seconds
As I was focused on saying hi to my roomie and you know...singing and listening to people speak and such.

But then I noticed....the dude next to me....was moving his legs.
Like you have that nervous jumpy foot sort of movement of the legs.
But this dude. He was doing a different motion. Of spreading his legs then bringing them together before spreading them again. Repeating it over and over.

It was....a visual irritant to me. Also an auditory one as well as I could hear the movement too.
I figured it would be fine.
That it would stop.

It didn't.
I mean, he ended up switching to twitchy leg halfway through, and then going back to the swinging of both legs.
And I ended up with only like a ten minute window of peace where there was no visible irritant bugging me.

But overall...
It was an hour of torture for me, sitting there.
*exhales*

Because the dude was just giving off a weird vibe, and I already wasn't in a good place, and visual and auditory irritants were rather sensitive to me apparently and yah....

I was tense. I was irritated.

And it wasn't like I could just lean over to a complete stranger and go "Stop moving."
Because really...it wasn't something that should bother other people.

*exhales*
I nearly got up and left halfway through. Except he stopped right when I was planning to leave.

But yah.
It wasn't...a good day for me.
I mean...I was trying to be nice and sit by the roomie so she wouldn't be by herself...and I was rewarded by getting irritated at another person nearby....
*exhales*

I ended skipping out on the rest of church because I definitely didn't want to deal with anyone else today. No bad energies. No irritating noises, movements, scents...whatever.

I just...went home and shut myself in my room.

Which has helped immensely.
Yay. :)

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Dot. Dot. Dot.

It's been one of those blah days.
Like...it didn't start that way.
No. Today at work was probably slightly stressful all things considered.
With it being a Saturday and all.

So it was constantly helping customers and finding things and....well being social.

I suppose then....I'm just drained.

I've been giving too much of myself.
...and not getting enough of a reward back to keep my energy levels back.

Which has left me just....feeling meh.
Apathetic?
I don't know.

I just don't want to do anything. Expend any more energy.

So here I sit.
Staring at a screen.
Until my energy comes back...at some point.

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.

In the Dark

There was a Gem Faire today!
Which...honestly I debated about breaking my streak of going to said gem faire and just staying in bed....because yah. Headache had me down. Silly thing. Must be the smoke in the air or something.

In any case.
I was like: "NO! I will do the thing!"

So Kikay and I headed into the next valley over to go look at all the pretty rocks and sparkly jewelry and the other random assortments of odds and ends that are also there.

And wow.
The place was the jam packed with booths.
Like the past two or three times I've gone.
There haven't been as many booths.
So there's often a set up of tables and chairs in either the back or the front of the room for people to sit at and such.

Not the case here.
There was no room at all for tables and chairs. It was rows and rows and rows of booths.
Seriously, I don't remember it being so big.

But it was exciting because that meant more things to look at, more potential things to buy! :D lol.
So it was fun to see the regular vendors. But nice to see other booths set up that hadn't been there before.

In any case.
Kikay and I were nearing the end of our browsing. In like the second to last/last row of tables to look at. We'd kinda gotten separated. Like. I think she was one row over from me. And I was in the middle of a larger booth looking at all the rocks and such.

When the power goes out.
There are no windows in the room.
A couple of sellers still had lights on.
But overall...the place was in darkness.

And you could feel the uncertainty fill the room.

I mean...this has never happened before.
So it was like "Is this....a bad thing?"

Me? I was like: "Oh, the power's out. But look! I have my phone and it has a light! Therefore I can continue looking at the rocks with my flashlight. Go smart me!"

I only did that for like 10 seconds though.
Before paranoia set in.

Like.
The power is out.
Am I in danger?
Is something 'bad' about to happen? Like a shooting?
Because shootings are so prevalent it feels like nowadays (which is unfortunate.) Was it now my time to experience one in person?

So I shut off my phone light.
Looked for the nearest exit.
Wondered where Kikay was....because she wasn't next to me. Was she near? Was she far? Was she safe?

But.
The power turned back on. No issue.
And you could hear the huge sigh of relief given off by people. A trickle of laughter echoing around the room like "Whew, look it's nothing bad! We're good!"

So it nearly was like..."Okay! Time to return to shopping!"

Until someone spoke over the intercom. Telling venders to turn off some of their lights.
-As vendors all have bright lights over their products to make all the various gems and such sparkle.
Why did they want those lights off?
Because currently the building was running of generators.
And having too many lights on....would overwork the system and shut off the entire building again.
And if that happened....they would have to evacuate everyone out.
As a safety measure. Because you can't really hang out in darkness.
They later were like "Lock up your valuables vendors because if the power goes out...there's nothing we can do."

In any case.
Kikay and I found each other and stuck close together for the rest of the time.
We found a spot to talk, go over what we wanted in the gem faire.
-As we browse first, making note of what we want to buy. (me I take pictures to remind myself) and then go through and decide what we really want and what we don't.
So we picked our chosen items.
Went to the first vendor.
And the power went out once more.
Only temporarily but the dude over the intercom system was like "Okay all vendors we need all your lights off now." etc.
So. Not knowing how much time we had.
I bought my things, went to the booth Kikay wanted, bought her thing, went to another booth that had items I wanted...and then we left.

Overall. Not a bad experience.
It was just....kinda weird. There was a weird atmosphere in the building after the lights went out.
Mostly because...we had no idea why they had gone out.
Had the building blown a fuse because there was too many vendors in the room? Moreso than normal? Was it an outside issue like a car accident had knocked out the power to the building and surrounding area? Was it a plot to steal a bunch of gems?

Dunno. We never found out for sure.

But yah. It's interesting where the mind goes when the power goes out and uncertainty sets in.
Like. Where's the exit? Where's my sister? I have a flashlight good.
But also it's like "What items did I really want and I would be sad to not get?" Which made it easier to narrow down choices and such without as much dithering because you knew there was a potential time crunch. If the power goes out...you might not be able to buy the thing so hurry and go buy the thing.

Still though.
Odd experience.
I'm glad it turned out okay though. :)

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Accidentally Good

So our new DM came in to visit yesterday.
I didn't see much of her as she hadn't gotten around to visiting my department before my shift ended.

But my manager told me that the visit went really well.
And was really positive.

-lol though honestly it probably went 'well' because the DM is new and therefore is easing into her duties and such.

But in any case.
One thing of note in our department.

Was that in our New Arrivals room...where we...well keep the new animals in the store for a probationary period before we put them on the floor to sell... the DM had noticed that a lot of the tags had been 'updated' to say Arrival Date: NA Bring to the Floor: RTF ASAP.

And she got so excited.
Because apparently....a new thing that we're supposed to be doing.
Is that once the probationary period is over with. We should be updating the tags so that they no longer say when the animal came into the store.
So instead of being like: Arrival Date: Sept 20th  Bring to Floor Date: Sept 23rd.
It would say Overstock. Arrival Date: NA Bring to the Floor Date: NOW or ASAP or something like that.

But she was excited because we were like the only store to implement this new policy. No one else was doing it.
As before. We just left the dates on the cages. That way we can tell which animals have been here longer than others and make sure they're brought out in a timely fashion. (you know when room opens up on the floor.)

lol...the funny thing is....
We had no idea about this new policy.

No. When I had written those tags...
It was because I was transferring animals that had been in our sick room into the overstock room because they were now healthy and we could sell them.
Hence me labeling their tags as NA and RTF ASAP

And the only reason why I moved the animals is because I didn't want the DM being like "Why do you have animals who are healthy in your sick room?"

But hey. ^^;; Whatever makes the DM happy! lol.
So yah.
Overall our visit went great! It was mostly minor notes of "check this policy" "check this other policy" "Oh double check cus I think this policy changed."

Which is a nice breath of fresh air really.
To have positivity in our visits.
As I feel like the last few by the old DM were...tainted? Idk. It just...always had a bit of a 'we're all about to get fired because the store is totally horrible" blah blah blah sort of feel.
But in this particular visit. It was more upbeat. More positive.
And honestly. I think that's what the store needs right now. :)

So Long

It was one of my manager's last day at work today.
Which was semi depressing.
Because he was one of my favorite managers in the store.
Had a fun positive sunshiney attitude that just was infectious.
I always enjoyed opening with him and such.

But I could understand why he chose to leave.
There was a lot of pressure in position.
The typical a lot of expectations but very little time or manpower to accomplish those expectations scenario.

*exhales*

In any case.
Knowing that the manager often felt under appreciated.

I brought in Rice Krispies for him as a farewell token.

Which I had no idea if he'd like them at all. lol. I bought them on a whim when I was grocery shopping yesterday, and debated about taking them in or not.
-I nearly didn't because I wasn't feeling good with a headache and such.
but I chose to.

And handed them to him when he opened the doors to let me in.

Lol Apparently he loves Rice Krispies. ^^;; Who knew? lol.

I'd halfway expected him to share them with everyone.
But nope.
They went into the office and stayed there for him to snack on throughout his last shift. haha.

^^;; So yay. I'm glad I was able to grab him something he liked. :D Hopefully he has a good time at his new job. *fingers crossed*

Back to the Crazy

It's always interesting to return to work after a vacation.
Mostly because I'm always curious to see how well worked survived with me not there.

Lol usually the verdict is that I was 'sorely missed' while I was gone.
Because I am usually the main force behind keeping the department running.

And it's easy to see what falls by the wayside and such.

Like the fact that the lock on the door to our bird enclosure is once again broken.
*exhales*
Seriously.
Is it that hard to tighten the little nut on the screw so it doesn't come apart?
Apparently so.

Because I know I've told multiple coworkers....

Yet that lock still manages to break whenever I vanish for longer than like...three days. *shakes head*

I'll honestly be shocked the day I come back from vacation to find it still in one piece.

Lol though at least this return there were no major major changes.

However there are unwelcome ones.

Like the fact that I'm losing three coworkers within the next couple of weeks.
Or the fact that our district manager is visiting tomorrow.

….*exhales*
Why couldn't she have come while I was on vacation?
I mean, this DM is new. So I've only seen her once before. Therefore it's probably a good thing to be around when she's here so I can get an idea of what sort of things she's expecting to see in the department (as each DM has their personal preferences)

But at the same time. I'm ALWAYS there when the DM comes to visit.
For once or maybe three times.
I'd love to just not be there when the DM comes in.
I'd love to be away from the stressed environment and the tension and the vibrating energy and all that jazz that just...wears me out because people are freaking out.

Which considering the DM comes in like every month....I really don't see why they're freaking out every single time.
*shakes head*
In any case.
The 'freaking out' for this visit so far as been more on the downlow. Which is good.
But still.
I'm not looking forward to tomorrow.

I'll be watching the leaves.

A Farewell

My oldest fish died yesterday. :(
Bloody Baron was his name. A betta fish that was white with red spotting on the tail.
He lived to be like 4 maybe even almost 5 years old.

Which is rather old for a betta.
I think the longest I've had one live otherwise has been like...two years?

So to have him live 4 years?
Like wow.
I mean, I got him in my first year at my last apartment. Which I lived there for two years. And I've been in the 'new' place for two years now.
So like....It's crazy.

He was such a good little fishy.
And I'm rather sad that he died while I was on vacation.

But at the same time. I wasn't surprised when my roomie broke the news to me.
He'd been acting 'grandfatherly' for a month or so now.
Getting a bit skinnier. Getting a bit less wiggly. Having to make more of an effort to get up to the surface to grab the food. I could see the signs.

Still doesn't make it any easier though. Y_Y

You were a good fish Bloody Baron, and already I miss seeing you in your little tank. Y_Y

A Scheduling Error

I figured it was going to happen.
I mean....who comes back from vacation on a Monday?
It's just...not normal lol.

But that was how the vacation had been planned out.
So I dutifully requested my vacation time.
Including tomorrow.

But was I surprised when I looked up my schedule online yesterday to see me scheduled to work tomorrow?
*shakes head*
Nope.

After all the store's been in a bit of an...well uproar.
As we've had our head manager leave, and our new HM is pulling double duty trying to work between two stores currently until they find a new manager to replace him at his original store.

Sooo I'm not surprised the little detail of me being still on vacation tomorrow was forgotten.

But it still didn't make me happy to see it on the schedule.
After all...I'm not even in the state currently lol.
As we will be spending all day tomorrow returning home. Yay roadtrip :P

So.
I contacted my manager and was like "Hey....you scheduled me to work Monday....I asked for that day off as I'm still on vacation then."

I wasn't mad. After all our VP has been under a bit of stress recently with people quitting and hiring new coworkers and such.

And VP was like "Ah! My fault! I'll get it covered!"

…..Knowing my store....and my managers....they don't always remember things.

So today I checked in again. To make sure the shift was covered.

As I really didn't want to get a wake up call early in the morning from the manager on duty asking me why I hadn't yet shown up for work because they didn't know I wasn't able to make it.

Thankfully the VP manager responded back with: "Yah! We gotcha covered! You're good!"

WOOT! sweet relief!

Kinda.

Because like two minutes later he was like "Umm...I think we have you covered, the other two managers were supposed to do that. I'm texting them now to see if they did."

:S :S :S
ummm….okay....cus like....I really don't want to leave the department hanging.
As for the last little while, I've been mostly scheduled by myself Monday mornings.
So if they'd planned on me to be there that day...and kept to scheduling me by myself....I wouldn't have been surprised if no one would have come in until at least noon.

Thankfully.
Half an hour later.
The manager checked in again to tell me that my shift was covered.
So woot! :D

Crisis averted. ^^;; lol.

Writing Writing Writing

It's been a rather productive week for me. Writing wise.
I managed to finish like four different stories.
-Three of them were already partially written and I managed to get over my writer's block regarding them. Woot! The other one I wrote in like two days. So double woot! :D

Ah. It's been so amazing.
To be able to complete a handful of the mountain of writing projects I've been working under lol.

Which means....I'm not too surprised that I haven't been able to write the past couple of days.
Part of it may be from switching locations as we left the place we'd been staying at for the past week to spend the weekend elsewhere.
The other just might be....a bit of burn out. I've been going so much recently in regards to writing.
That my brain probably needs a couple of days to rejuvenate and regain the creativity and drive to read and edit and finish the things.

*exhales*
It's frustrating to stare at stories and just....have nothing work.

So I'm totally looking forward to my brain kicking back into gear. lol.

Haired

I discovered today that my brother knows how to do hair.
*shakes head*
It's not something I had thought he knew how to do.
But no. He knows how to French Braid and such.
lol. Because he learned how to do it so he could braid his wife's hair.

Which is like the sweetest thing!

And he's rather good at it.
So when he asked if any of us wanted him to do our hair.
I jumped at the chance.
Just to see how he did.

lol Unfortunately my hair wasn't wet. So the French braid didn't really work.
but he did just fine braiding my dry hair in a normal braid.

So yah.
My brother braids hair.
Go figure.

A Different Place

It's been rather different. Staying in the Phoenix area for the past week or so.

The major difference being the heat. :S :S
I think it was over 100 degrees the entire time we were in town.
Which is. HOT.
How can people choose to live in such a hot place??
I don't get it.
My cold self recoils at the thought. lol.

So you can bet that I'm excited to return home where the temperatures should be around 20 degrees cooler.
Only....my state is currently on fire. Again. The valley inundated with smoke. Sooo idk if I actually want to be returning home to that anytime soon. :S

In any case.
The other major difference would be the mountains/hills in the area.

Because the city has grown so large. That the place has like a dozen and a half different freeway systems to get you places (and the GPS never took us the same way twice it felt like) but the cities...they surrounded these large hills. Like. You'd see these large monoliths of volcanic rock reaching for the heavens. And completely surrounding the thing would be civilications.
It was weird. Like having it happen once? Okay. Interesting.
But the valley has tons of these singular mountains/hills that are separated from the main range and they're all surrounded with houses. Many of them have houses on them as well.

It's just...crazy.
To see a city that big.
To see that type of view.

Cool though.
Weird.
But cool.

I'll be watching the leaves.

An Odd Placement

When it comes to Petroglyphs.
I always imagine them on the sides of large rock surfaces.
Usually on the side of sandstone cliffs or on boulders bigger than a car. Things that...can't easily be moved.

But today, my family went to visit the Deer Valley Petroglyph Preserve.
Where I was told there were there are over 1500 different petroglyphs all together.
Which...
Confused me.
Because where we were standing?
Wasn't a place that had these nice big flat sandstone surfaces.
No.
Everywhere I looked there was volcanic rock. Basalt.

The mountains/hills all around us were covered in various sized boulders of the stuff.

And that's where the petroglyphs were.
Carved into the sides of various boulders that made up one of the many large hills in the area.

O.o

It was weird.
Because even though I knew a lot of those rocks were bigger and heavier than any one human could move.
The whole thing seemed so fragile.
I mean one wrong stone removed and a ton of different rocks could come tumbling down destroying or obscuring the symbols left on their surfaces.

*shakes head*
Though considering those petroglyphs were from 700-1500 years ago....
I suppose there's not much fear in having those rocks move. lol.

It just was a different sort of set up than I was used to.
Still very cool (even though the place was super hot) to see.

I'll be watching the leaves.

Eight Years Later

*shakes head*
You know...I know my blogaversary was coming up.
Was even planning to post on the day of my blogaversary about the blogaversary….
And then I went and totally spaced it until two days later. lol.
Ah. Vacations. Time just passes by so quickly while you're on them. It's hard to keep the days straight.
Especially when you're in a different time zone than your home zone.

In any case.

Happy Eight Year Blogaversary guys!

Can you believe I've been keeping this blog going practically daily for 8 years?
Cus I can't.
Like wow.
It often feels like I started this only a year or two ago.
Not eight.

It's crazy.
It's amazing.

Gone A Searching

It's been a while since I've consciously actively looked at Yu-Gi-Oh cards.

I mean. I have a deck I created a long while ago that I have been playing more recently due to the sibs getting back into the card game again.

But like, going out to game stores to look through Yu-gi-oh cards with the intention of buying some and such?
Hasn't happened in a while.

And really, today I was only humoring my siblings by going because I was the only one with access to our car lol.

But wow.
That place had a ton of cards. ()_() My sibs tell me that there were like 20 boxes of them.

And we only went through like....five. :S yeesh.

So.
Many.
Cards.

It took us hours to get through one large box.

-We each took a box.
-Each told everyone what we were looking for.
And then went at it. lol.

It was fun.
Though stressful.
Our eyes got sooooo tired from looking at card after card after card after card.

*shakes head*
But fun!
I got a bunch of new cards I'd never seen before.

….And now I need to figure out if I want to take apart my current deck... :S :S
Or maybe just create a new one.
Yah....I'll probably see if I can create a new one. ^^;; lol.

Switched

So it's become kinda a tradition when we go on vacation as a family, we each take a night to make a meal.
Lol and my 'traditional' meal I've taken to making is my famous Tacozanga because most of my family members don't get to eat it that often.
Even at home...I don't make it more than like...every third month or so. ^^;; lol.

In any case.
I chose to make my tacozanga again for this trip.
Even with the slight change in ingredients as specific brand names weren't sold here that I usually get.

I figured it would go over well.
And it did! Woot!

lol but not without a slightly major hiccup.

As I put in Mexican style Rice-Roni as one of the layers.
Which involves pouring in a seasoning packet once the rice has been browned and water added.

So when the time came.
I grabbed the seasoning packet.
Opened it.
And poured it in.

Only to realize once I was about to toss the packet into the trash....
That I'd poured in the wrong seasoning.
*face palm*

I also had a packet of Taco Seasoning on the counter, for the taco meat.
And had grabbed that, not thinking, instead of the rice-roni seasoning I should have.

So I had a great "well now what?" moment, watching the seasoning dissolve into the water.
Like. Would I pour the water out and start a new with boiling water and just save the taco seasoned water for when it came time to add it to the taco meat?

Nah....lol I actually didn't think about that until later.

No, my solution was to just roll with it.
I kept the rice in the taco seasoning.
And saved the rice-roni packet to pour onto the taco meat.

I mean...both would end up in the same dish.
So hopefully that would mean the flavors would end up tasting somewhat proper even if they were placed on the wrong.

And it worked!!
The family didn't notice a difference. Thought it tasted just as good. ^^;;

Lol yay for things working out in my favor! :D

I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Outta State

Shopping is so weird when you're in a different state.
Like the stores aren't set up the same.
Nor do some of the stores you usually shop at exist in other states.
And grocery shopping?

It can be difficult.
Because like you go in expecting to get all your usual stuff.
Only to find you can't find the brand names you're used to.

Which then means you either a) have to try a different brand and hope it tastes the same or nearly as good. or b) You end up leaving without getting what you wanted.

*exhales*
Not fun for picky eaters like me, for sure.
As my tastes can be rather particular.

Still...overall I managed to find most of what I needed....
Hopefully the things I had to compromise on won't taste weird when I finally make them. ^^;;

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
