Waiting

There's something quite distracting about anticipation.
Like...especially when you don't know when the thing is going to happen.
Just that it might...today...at some point.

Like it makes it hard to focus on anything.

It's hard to focus on writing, on blogging, on socializing.
Because you're just...waiting for the thing to come to pass.

And as it grows later in the day....with nothing happening....it's like.....disappointing.
Did you just waste the day for something that isn't actually going to come today?
Were you sitting there waiting for nothing?

Thankfully.
That wasn't the case today.

But still.

I need to work on better distracting myself from the thing when they come around so that I can get something done on those anticipation days lol.

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Dating Frustrations

There are times where I feel rather shallow.
But at the same time...why is it wrong to want to be with a guy that is physically attractive to you? Is it that shallow?
Possibly not.

Yet at the same time I feel that way.
Whenever people try and set me up with guys.

Because it seems like every. single. time. I get set up with the same 'stereotype' of guy that I'm honestly not attracted at all too.
And why am I set up with them? Because they're 'nice', they're 'funny' they have an 'excellent job' or 'are really smart'

Which yes.
I want all those too...

But at the same time....
It makes me feel...worse? Worse.
To be set up with these guys that aren't attractive.

Like...idk how to explain it.
But like...are others taking into consideration how I feel? What am attracted to? What I look for in a guy?
Or are they just like "Oh no, Sarnic is still single! Let me think of the first SINGLE guy I can that MIGHT have like one quality that meshes with her and try and set them up!"

Just. Please.
No.

No.

Yes I'm single.
That doesn't mean I'm desperate to marry the first guy who drops into my lap.
No there's more to that.
Are we attracted to each other? Are we able to connect mentally? Emotionally? Can I feasibly talk to this guy every single day and not feel like we've run out of topics?

I mean, I'm looking for my best friend.
Someone I want to be around. Someone I want to be seen with. Someone I can talk to about the stupidest of subjects or the deepest of philosophies.

And it's just...
Hard.

Hard to continually get set up with guys who don't fulfil any of those qualities.

What does that say about me?
What does it say about how others view me?

Especially if I've told them mul-ti-ple times that what type of guy I'm searching for....and it gets ignored.

It's a blow to my self worth too...like am I just here to 'be the trophy wife' because that's how it feels like. Am I here because others don't think I'm as pretty? Because that's what it feels like. And it's hard for my self worth. My self confidence to feel like I can't measure up to the 'cute' guys the 'attractive' guys.

Granted. There are some that I won't ever be in the same circles with.
But at the same time...why can't it be that I can get set up with someone that is 'cute' for once?

*exhales*

This is why I hate dating.
Hate getting set up with people.

Because it just seems to nail it in deeper every time.
That no one really knows me that well.

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day.

A Hiking Adventure

I hiked the Y today.

A hike I haven't done since like...my first year of College.
I don't even remember who I hiked it with...though I'm pretty sure it was my favorite roommate of that year.

Not sure though.

In any case.
It's been a good ten  years since I've made that hike probably.

And the only reason why I chose to venture in that death climb was because a friend in my current ward had the goal to hike it like...twelve times this spring/summer before she leaves.

*shakes head*

So crazy.
But I like hiking.
And again, I haven't done this particular hike in like 10 years.
So I figured...maybe it would be a better hike this time around.

As what I mostly remember is my burning lungs and the twists and turns.

Whelp.

That part hasn't changed much.
I mean we are climbing the side of the mountain.
Which means an uphill climb the entire way.

So yah, my lungs and legs still burned.
But it was still a fun hike lol.

Adventurous too because it was stormy today.
And by stormy.
I mean snowy.

Like there was no snow in the valley, but the Y was covered, and as we climbed up the side the snow became more apparent and deeper, and the clouds overhead were sprinkling snow over our heads.

Lol so the hike was a bit more treacherous this time around, trying to climb in snow isn't always the easiest when it's steep.

But we made it to the top! Woot!!

And the best part?
My friend wanted to throw a snowball from the top of the Y.
And like, the snow was a good six inches deep or so.
So we both grabbed handfuls, made a ball and threw it as far down the snow covered mountain as we could.
Which is when we made the fun discovery.

The balls....roll.
So. The next snowballs we threw, we tossed to see how far down the hill we could get them to roll and how big they would get.

Thankfully, but also slightly disappointedly, the snowballs didn't follow the cartoons and get exponentially bigger. Nah. They were still pretty small when they would finally stop rolling.

Still though.
It was a ton of fun watching them roll.

and made the burning hike to the top worth it in the end lol.

Dunno when or if I'll try it again, but it was nice to revisit that hike and see if it was as intense as I remembered it being.

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

To Get Away

I need a vacation.

I can tell.
Why?
Because usually about the time I realize I need a vacation is about the time that I start getting more irate at my coworkers.
Like things just bug me faster and get on my nerves a lot quicker.

And this week I've basically reached that point where I just get this flash of irritation whenever one of my coworkers speaks.

Like today. Where a coworker was like "I thought we weren't supposed to have guinea pigs in the bottom cage."
Which really, is a valid concern. As we usually have Chinchillas in that bottom cage.
But because we weren't getting a Chinchilla in this week and we'd sold our other one, I chose to move the Skinny Pigs into the larger cage to make them more visible to customers.

But yah. There would be a concern if we had a Chinchilla expected to come in.
Right now though? Nah it's fine.

I know what I'm doing.

I guess the frustration just stems from people questioning me. Like. Guys. I know what I'm doing. Been doing this job much longer than the rest of you under-a-year-lings.

*exhales*
So yah.
I need a vacation.
Time to step away and have a break from the scene.
Get away from people, from the job.

I mean, I took a small vacation in January.
But at the same time, I was still in the area, just not at work.

So it's about time that I just...went somewhere different.
Somewhere out of state.
Just to get away from it all.

Thankfully though.
I only need to survive like another week.

As I timed my vacation plans rather well.

So looking forward to getting away for a bit.

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Why?

So work has been going through a purge of sorts.
In regards to the product we sell.
Where our clearance items have been going 'Penny" which means that they ring up at $0.01.

And like...it would be great. If we could sell those penny items.

But no. If something shows up at as a penny we're not allowed to sell it to the customer, and if we can't use the item in the store or donate it to our adoption groups....it gets thrown away.

Which sucks really.
Because like....that's a lot of perfectly good product that just gets...destroyed and tossed in the trash.
It's such a silly system.

Like. Okay.
No customers bought it.

But does it seriously need to be just thrown away?

Like why can't workers take these items for their own pets?

Or at least give them first dibs?

I mean if the items are just going to be thrown away.
Why not give your workers who work for you a chance to take the items instead?

*exhales*

Corporate Greed probably.

Such a stupid thing.
Such a very stupid thing.

Waste totally useful things. Destroy them. Throw them away.
And like....someone could have found a reason to have that.

*exhales*

I don't get it.
And it's frustrating to watch it happen.
Like we already have so much garbage on the planet, why purposely create more? That's not eco friendly at all.

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Barriers?

I happened to come out from behind the fishwall at the same time a customer was passing by heading to the cricket podium.
Figuring she'd either need help with crickets or with catching fish, I followed her and watched as she slammed a jar of water on the podium and started to walk away...supposedly to search for someone I guess as I hadn't heard of anyone needing help over the radios.

But before she got too far I asked her if she needed a water test.
-As that's usually why people bring in random jars of water into the store.

I was correct.

But while I was testing the water.
The customer asked me:

"When did you put the barriers up?"

O.o ?? Barriers?
I had no idea what she was talking about.

So she clarified.
"The security barriers on either side of the doors. Why did you put them up? Are you having problems in the store?"

Oh.
OH.

The little barrier things that stand on either side of the door that will beep if you try and steal products from the store.
(They've never gone off so I don't even know if they work at all.)

Now knowing what she was talking about I was like "Those aren't new. They're a couple of years old at least."

We've had them for a while. I don't know exactly how long...but probably 2-3 years is my guess.

The customer was like. ()_() "Really?! Why haven't I noticed them before now?!"

*shrugs*
No idea lady. No idea. I mean they're right there.

And the only reason why she noticed them?
"Must have been because you had a security guard standing right there. Has there been trouble in the store recently?"

Again I look over to the front doors to see this 'security guard' and tell the customer. "That's the manager."
Who had shaved his beard and does, upon looking at him from that prespective, appear like one of those macho bald headed security guys. lol.

But no. He's just the manager. No security guard needed. *shakes head* He just happened to be standing nearby when she walked in as the door to grooming is also right there.

In any case.
I got her water tested, told her how to fix the issues she had, and sent her on her way.
^^;;

Cookie Cookie

It was Salon Appreciation Day today at work.

Which...is interesting because I don't know if we ever had one of those before.
Maybe we did...and I just didn't realize it?

Who knows.

I only know it was today though because the manager said it was and that he was getting the groomers donuts.
But would also get some for us in the Core store.

As there were like...three of us lol. Me, the Cashier (who is a groomer too) and like the managers.

In any case.

When the manager went out to grab the donuts he came back with something completely different.

Giant cookies from a local cookie company.

And the type he grabbed had Nutella drizzled on top of a sugar cookie and a nice big glob of it inside the cookie as well.

The best part?
The made the cookie fresh.
So when the manager handed one to me.
It was warm.
The Nutella gooey and soft.

It was delicious!! lol

And the first time I've actually had Nutella I think.

Like maybe I had some before.
But if I did it didn't leave an impression.

I can see why people like it so much lol.
It is good.
Especially in the middle of a sugar cookie! :D

A Hard Celebration

We went to Sizzler tonight.
Kinda like a...celebratory thing?
Ish?
I mean...it was my parents anniversary on Wednesday.

So it would make sense that Daddoo would want to do something kinda...to like...idk...celebrate is the wrong word. But mark the occasion?
Which mark the occasion he did by telling us a couple good news things that has helped to relieve some of the uncontrollable stresses in my life. So yay!

But it was....hard.
Hard being at Sizzler.

Because we went there as a family you know?
Like the last time we ate there had been with Mom.

And it didn't help at all that the waitress sat us in the exact same location that we'd sat in the last time she'd been with us for dinner there.

The empty sixth chair was felt all too strongly as we tried to keep the spirit up and talk and laugh and such.

But still.
It's hard.
Hard to go places that we'd go to all together.

It will probably get easier in time.

But all the firsts....will be hard.

Like tonight was.
Eating here for the first time since she passed.

I miss her.

A Headache Spike

I think I finally reached the burnout point of an extremely social week.

I mean, usually I do work, and church, and maybe one social outing.

But ever since Pie Day I've had plans practically every day.

Which normally is rather draining to go do the social things.

But surprisingly I was pretty energized after most of those interactions lol (besides work which is always tiring lol)

But today.
I think I hit the wall.
Too much energy spent, not enough regained, and probably a lack of sleep.

As I ended up with quite the major headache today.

Which sucks.
Because today was the Vocal Point Concert.
And I really wanted to enjoy myself there.

I tried what I could to get the headache to go away before the concert started.
Meds, food, a nap.

No avail.

I had a headache through the entire thing.
*exhales* Not fun at all. Especially when the headache spiked to the point of making me feel sick.

Thankfully I was able to stick it out.

And I did love the concert.
Loved the songs.
Loved spending it with my siblings.
Enjoyed just the entire Vocal Point energy that leaves me happy and giddy for the rest of the evening lol.

I've missed hearing their voices in person.
So I'm glad I was able to make it!
Even if the headache did it's best to make the experience difficult. XP

Rocks Rocks

I went to the gem faire today.
Like I do every three or four months or so.
(Though I'm going to miss the next one. :( Sad day.)

Compared to last time (where the power went out and it ended up with a creepy vibe)
It was a lot of fun and still as crowded, which was rather surprising to me.
Because like...the place was practically filled up again.
Which more booths! Woot!
More potential places to spend money.

And it's kinda...interesting.

But like nearly every time I go to that place I end up buying like a bracelet or a small stone pretty much off the bat to wear or put in my pocket.

Kinda like a...protective stone I suppose?
Something to help with the energy swirling around, so that I can focus and such.

Today it was a yellow bracelet. One of those $2 ones that are splayed around at least half a dozen tables throughout the faire.
I don't know what kind of stone it is.
Or if the yellow is natural or just a dye or something.
But I liked it.
Made me happy.
Bright Yellow does an excellent job of bringing the cheer.
So I got it and wore it around the rest of the gem faire.

Lol though.
Like most things I get to wear at the faire...
It's probably going to end up somewhere in my room....

But maybe I'll wear it more often now that I realize I usually don't...we'll see.

Broken Updates

Sometimes I hate updates to things.
As recently it seems like anytime something updates....it breaks the thing.

For example.
My phone.
The past day or so.
It's been getting unreasonably hot.
And the messaging system....is glitching.
Like I'll send a text....and it just vanishes into the void.
And the messages are like "Oh, you didn't actually look at this text you haven't yet looked at it. It's unread."
No like I read it! I tried to respond and you didn't let me respond!

So it's a matter of exiting out of texting and then going back in to try again and to double check with a shorter text that I can actually send it out before writing a longer text because I don't want it to be a waste of time. *exhales*

I hate updates.
Pretty sure it's an update to the phone somewhere sometime because the thing is always updating things that caused a glitch in texting to make my life difficult for the next forseeable future.

Hopefully it's a temporary issue. Because otherwise texting people -which I do all the time- is going to be a trial and a half.

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.

Morning Injury

Work got a bit of an auspicious start today.
In that I had a chance to follow in my Daddoo's footsteps and play nurse to a customer.

You see.
We have these automatic doors right?
Ones that don't open unless we turn the switch to allow them to automatically open?

Well.
We can also control how they open.
In that before the main store opens, but grooming is open we often have the switch for the door set to "Stay closed for people trying to enter, but opens for customers trying to leave the store."

So.
We had a customer come to the door this morning, and instead of ringing the doorbell (as no one ever sees the doorbell) they pulled the door open themselves, as we had left it unlocked since grooming customers were coming in.

Most of the time customers just throw those doors wide open if they decide to try and open them for themselves.
A handful do try to close the doors behind them though, leaving them how they were when the customer showed up.

This customer who came into the store was one of the latter people.
He opened the doors, but decided to also close them as well.

Only.
We had the switch on. Where the doors would automatically open/close for customers leaving the store.

Well.
The mechanics kicked in.
And the doors automatically closed.
On the poor guy's finger.

And it wasn't a simple "AH MY FINGER GOT SMASHED!"
No.
Dude was bleeding like crazy.
Got blood all over his pants poor guy.

He came up to us and was like "I'm bleeding I need a bandaid"
So I was like "Let me see."
I saw the blood and was like well shoot that is a lot of blood. So I directed him to the papertowels nearby on the cleanup station we have (for when puppies make messes in the store) while I ran to the office to grab the largest bandaids I could find.

it wasn't that large.
And when I got back the wound looked even worse.
Still. I put the band aid on and was going to call it good.

But the manager decided that we probably needed to make it better than that.
So we found some medical gauze in the first aid kit as well, and wrote off some medical bandages we had on the shelf (as puppies get hurt too) as well as grabbed some first aid ointment we had.

In the meantime the customer had dropped off their dog...and we had him go wash his hand off so that we could get pictures of the injury.
-As we weren't sure if we were liable for the customer getting hurt so took pictures to be on the safe side and grabbed his information.

And yah. It wasn't pretty.
He had like nice gash on the tip of his finger right under the nail.
Honestly...it might need stitches though idk if you can do stitches on that part of the finger.

In any case.
The dude wasn't handling the amount of blood (nor possibly the pain he was experiencing) very well, so he sat down and I took initiative and helped to apply the ointment and wrap his finger in gauze and bandage.
He was also looking a little pale. And his daughter asked if we had a water bottle.
Which I had one stashed away in my locker for situations like this (it hadn't been opened yet) and went and grabbed it as well as a granola bar to help him out.

Dude seemed alright when he left the store -after the manager also provided him with an icepack.

Still I feel for him.
It was quite the injury. :S

I'm glad I was able to help how I could though. ^^;; He was grateful that I helped treated his finger as he wasn't in a state to do so. ^^;;

I'll be watching the leaves.

Creepy Van

So this past weekend there's been a creepy van sitting in front of our house.

Which we've worked really hard to keep said creepy van from sitting in front of our house after last years fiasco of the creepy van sitting in front of our house unmoving for like two straight weeks. (owner must have gone on vacation or something.)

As it was around Spring Break that this happened last year.

And currently...it's Spring Break for one of the Colleges in College town.

So when like...on Friday? Maybe Thursday?
When we saw the creepy van parked in front of our house.
We just collectively groaned.

But didn't think much of it.
Because after last year's thing where the Van nearly got towed because geez who owns a sixty's creeper van with velvet curtains on the inside and leaves it in front of a girls' house?
(Some college dude that's who.)

Then the van didn't move at all over this past weekend.

Which only set our ire burning higher.
As like rude much?
Like who just parks randomly in front of a stranger's house for days on end??

(some college dude that's who?)

Like it wouldn't have been as much of an issue if you know like...we'd been asked.

But it's super creepy having this creepy oldies van sitting like an eyesore in front of our house.

Especially since like the house next door is for sale...so like why not put your creepy van in front of the empty house if you're so into leaving things to look sketchy??

In any case.

I spent a good portion of work today fuming.
Because yes creepy van was still outside when I left this morning for work.

Going through how I could approach the house that we know the owner lives in and ask them to politely move the van without saying directly "Or else we will get it towed."

Because like...what do we do if the roommates of said owner of creepy car are like "Oh, dude's gone for the week, didn't leave the keys for us, nothing we can do."

*shrugs*

Thankfully.
I didn't have to find out.

Because when I came home, the eyesore had finally vanished.
So wherever the dude was this past weekend, he was obviously back.

But yay!!
Creepy van is GONE!!
At least from being in front of our house.

Lol I made sure to park in that empty spot just to make sure he couldn't come back to that spot.

I'll be watching the leaves.

New Pet!

So last night I got a text from an acquaintance in the ward.
Acquaintance because our conversations have lasted like maybe an hour in total in the time I've seen them around?

In any case.
We had exchanged numbers a week ago.
With the plan to go hiking in the next couple of weeks.

But out of the blue they texted me in the evening.
Asking about Fish care.

As they'd just gotten a betta fish from a wedding reception.
And wanted to make sure they were taking care of it right.

Because they'd thought you could just keep the fish in a bowl, but then they'd heard things about filters and tanks and....just wanted to know what to do to keep the betta alive as they'd never had a fish before.

So I gave my usual spiel with bettas lol.

As they can do alright in bowls, but that would mean more work for you, the human, as gallon sized bowls need to be changed once a week. Anything smaller would need to be like twice a week.

But if you wanted less work for yourself and a happier fish then you would get a tank with a filter.
As the filter would mean you'd only need to do a water change once a month and a partial one at that, instead of a full water change once a week.

After talking a bit more.
We decided to meet up after they got off of work today.
So that I could show them everything they'd need for their betta fish.

However this morning, they changed it to tomorrow night...
And then like an hour later texted to say they were coming soon to my work (as I was already there working) because they had a longer lunch.

So when they arrived I helped out. :D
Woot!

We got everything that the betta would need and I answered more questions and sent them on their merry way.

Didn't think I would hear back from them again tonight.

But a couple of hours ago I got a text asking if I was still awake and home.

Which I was.

I mean 9pm is still pretty early in the evening to my mindset.

In any case.
They wanted to know if I could come over and help them put the betta in it's new tank.
As they didn't want to do anything wrong.

So I agreed.

Lol and with a bit of wiggling with the net that I brought along.

I managed to get the fish into the tank! Woot!

He was pretty still at first, getting used to being in the larger space than the betta cup he'd been transported in.

But was perking up as I was leaving.

*fingers crossed* that he does well for my wardie.
As I always want first time fish owners to succeed.

I'll be watching the leaves.

A New Game?

You ever have those crazy ideas where you're like. "I wonder how far or long this will go?"

Yah had that tonight while watching movies with the roomies.

As we have this habit of quoting other lines from other movies that relate to the movies we're watching.

And I had the thought come to me.
Like...

What if we made it a game?

Where we would watch a movie, and if any of us quoted another movie, we would then switch over to that movie and start watching that one until we quoted yet another movie.

So like watching Aladdin we would quote Swan Princess which eventually led to us quoting The Princess and the Frog.

And maybe you'd start the movie at the point you quoted? *shrugs*

But like.
I think it would be fun to try one night.
Just to see how many movies we could get through and how long it would take us to reach the end of any movie. ^^;;

It would be a fun challenge to take up when we have the time to lol.

Deal?

I can see why people like shopping in clearance sections of the store.

I mean. Finding things that used to be $$$ and are now selling for $?
Yah. There's a bit of a thrill in being able to save money.

And my work is no different.
I often try to wait until things or animals (mostly fish) go on sale before I purchase them so I can save a bit of money.

With the current crappy fish sales happening in the store though....I haven't been able to do that since like...Halloween of last year.

In any case.

My Daddoo had been wanting a new air pump for the new tank he'd set up at home.
So I told him I would get him one.
Though I was waiting for them to go on sale....
Which hadn't happened in like...forever. *exhales*

And then, today I noticed them.

The Clearance section.

Like. I remembered that we had air pumps there as I'd noted them before Daddoo had said he needed one.

So I wandered over to see if any good ones were still there.

And there was.

One in particular caught my eye.
It was an airpump that would be good for up to 100 gallons.

And like normally it was around $50.

But the clearance tag.
Had it for $15.

()_()
That's like...idk 75% off?
So like A great deal!! :D

So I snatched it up, happy that I was able to get my Daddoo a great pump for a low price....

And then I went to register.

Where it rang up at half off instead. So around $25.

*exhales*
>.>

But I wasn't going to let that slide.
After all, the tag on the shelf said that it was $15.

So after a quick doublecheck to make sure I wasn't crazy.
The cashier changed the price for me.
As it was a pricing error on our part. Soooo we would match that price since it said it was that price.

^^;;
Yay.
lol

It was a good day for savings really.

I'll be watching the leaves.

Vision Test

It took me far longer than it probably should have.
I mean.
They're my eyes.
And my headaches.

So I figured I would probably put two and two together.

But no.
Not really.

*shakes head*

So. It's common knowledge that I get a lot of headaches.
Though recently it's increased like...12 fold?
To the point where I count the days I don't have headaches rather than the days I do have headaches.
To the point where there's like maybe a week in a month where there's not some ache somewhere in my head.

It used to be like 5 or 6 a month....

So something has obviously changed.

And I'm sure a lot of it is just stress based.
As I hold my tension in my shoulders and that travels up into my neck and therefore into my head.

But in any case.
Back on point with the eyes.

I had a revelation like a month ago.
After I was suffering from yet another headache behind my right eye.

That I suddenly wondered.

If it was my contacts causing the problem.
As often I would get headaches pretty soon after putting them in in the morning, like within an hour or so after arriving to work.
-Though not always.

But my headaches always got a little better if I took my contacts out....

In any case.
Like 8 months ago I had gone to see the eye doctor for the annual checkup but also because my eyes were bugging me like crazy.

Where it felt like one eye was working harder than the other.
Where it felt like they were constantly fighting each other and not working together.

And after a bit of trial and error and testing of different strength combinations.
I decided to strengthen the prescription in both eyes by one step.

Which is like the first time in 10 years that I made the decision to increase the prescription in my eyes.

And like it seemed to be working fine.
I mean I still had headaches, but I've had various stressors in my life for like...the past forever it feels like. (I need less stressors in my eyes)
So I kinda just put it from my mind that my headaches could possibly be caused by my contacts.

But I was like. Maybe the strength in my right eye is too strong as that's where most of my headaches are located.
-They used to be more behind the left eye.

And as I stated in a previous blogpost (I think?)
I figured I could just call the eye doctor get a trial prescription for my old prescription in my right eye and just try and see if that would help.

Doctor didn't like that. (I thought it was rather clever lol)
As it had been 8 months.
So today I went in to see him.
Just to check out my eyes and see how they were doing.

Overall.
They're doing just fine. ^^;;

But after doing the exam and all the tests and such with distance and close reading and everything.

The doctor decided that my left eye would definitely benefit by going a step down back to my old prescription so it wouldn't be straining as much.

The right eye?
Still up in the air.
As I feel less strain when wearing the old prescription...but my far vision isn't as clear unless I wear the current prescription.

So for the week I'm trying both eyes on the old prescription strength. To see how that feels.
And I still have the current prescription contacts available to me if I decide that the right eye doesn't like the weaker vision and isn't playing nice in working together with my left eye.

I can't really use today as a judge though.
Since I usually end up with a headache after the stress of doing the eye exam.
And further stressful factors of the entire day....meant that I definitely wasn't headache free today at all. *shakes head*

So we'll have to see if the week helps decrease those....
….Of course not having more stress piled on me would be helpful in accurately judging how my eyes are doing. *exhales*

I'll be watching the leaves.

Pie Day Meet Ups

So today was Pie Day right? 3.14.

But apparently today was also "Remember Sarnic exists day"

Because I had a simple plan.
Very simple plan.
Of go to work. Come home and maybe rest for a bit and then head up to my Dad's for the night.

But then.
In the middle of work.

I get a text from a friend.
Asking what my plans were for the day.

A friend that I haven't seen in a few months.
And haven't really texted recently either.
So I was like. O_o

But since the friend lives up by my Dad's place I was like "Oh I'm heading up your way! Maybe we can do something tonight!"

…..to find out that the friend was actually in my neck of the woods down here in Happy Valley for the day and wouldn't be getting back home until later in the evening.

So I was like...."We could do something down here?"
Because while I had the plan to go up to my Dad's after work, I didn't have a specific time that I needed to be there by as I'd made no firm plans up there yet.

But the friend had already had plans for in the evening.
So instead they dropped by work to say hi!!
Lol and we made plans to meet up for dinner tomorrow since both of us wouldn't be working and would be in the same city.

And I was like "Well that's random."
But went back to work.

Only for ANOTHER friend to text me a couple of hours later.
Another who I hadn't spoken too really in the past month or so.

And they wished me a happy Pie day and wanted to know what I was up to.

*shakes head*

So I told them the general "Work and then go up north thing."

While they were like "Yah I have school until this time, but I do have a small break about the point you get off work so maybe we can meet up and grab pie or something?"

Or something lol.
I don't like pie.

But I figured if the universe was wanting me to hang out with someone today before going up north.
I thought I'd humor it and go ahead and make a plan.

So once I was off work, I dropped by the University to pick up my friend and went to this little Brazilian place because my friend had served a mission in Brazil and said this place tasted just like the food that they had there.

So we went there to have the food.
-No pie.
But the food there.

And I do have to admit that it was tasty food. XD lol. And a good visit with my friend.
Will probably try it again. XD

But yah.
Pie Day.

Who woulda thought that people would want to hang out with me that day?

*shakes head*
Still rather confused about it all lol.

I'll be watching the leaves.

Enjoy the day!

Fulfilling Dreams

I got to watch my uncle fulfill one of his dreams last night.

This particular uncle (since I have many) has played in many concerts with many orchestras and symphonies and such.

And my family would often go to his performances when us kids were younger to watch him play trumpet and listen to the music and such.

But it's all been more localized amateur level I guess?

In any case.
He got an invitation to play with one of the more renowned Symphony Orchestras in our state.
Which is like....one of "The" Symphony to get into and play with.

And they had extended him an invitation to play with them for one night.

Which as my Aunt explained to me.
It was kinda like an audition process?

Where the symphony invites people from around the state to come play with them to basically see if they could potentially be subs (in case some of their players get sick) or maybe even join them if someone leaves the symphony, etc.

So yah. Audition!

But it was open to the public so we went to see them all play.

And it was fun.
Fun watching my uncle play and see him so excited and talkative about it all once the concert was over.
It was great. ^^;;

Lol he's basically like "I never need to play again this is a dream come true!!"

So excited for him and I'm glad I was able to be there to watch him play and listen to the orchestra. ^^;;

I'll be watching the leaves.

Losing the Moment

So a couple of Saturday's ago.
We had this semi weird incident at work.

Where a gentleman had come into the store...probably within the first hour or so of us opening, and had been talking to our cashier about adoptions, when he suddenly was like "Where's my Light? I had a light!"

...I'm guessing Lightbulb?
Which customers do come into the store for reptile lights and aquarium lights so it would make sense he would come into the store with one.

Only.
He hadn't come into the store with a light.
The cashier told him so.

They had a bit more conversation before the customer wandered off deeper into the store.

Which is when the cashier asked a manager over the radio if they would go check in on the guy and see if he needed help because he 'seems a little lost.'

So the manager dutifully walks over and finds the customer in the back of the store and asks what he can help the customer find.

To which the customer stated that they were looking for the 'plumbing department'

….We don't have a plumbing department.
Like I doubt the fish filters would be considered "plumbing"

The manager instead directed the customer to the Lowes a couple of stores down from us.

But it was still odd.
Like how can you walk into a pet store and think you're in a hardware store?

We watched him leave and head off towards Lowes.

And didn't think much more on it.

Until around lunch time?
I looked outside and noticed a cop car parked in our parking lot.
And it was odd because the stalls are parallel to our store. And the cop was parked perpendicular to the store. Facing us. So like he was taking up three parking spots.

Weird. But cops do weird things.
But again I glanced out.
And there's now another unmarked car sitting next to the first cop car.
An unmarked police car?

And a little bit later. Like another ten or fifteen minutes I look out...
And there's like a group of officers with two more police cars gathered in front of our store talking to somebody in a white car that was parked right next to the entrance doors.

We had no idea what was going on.
One cop came in and asked if we had cameras to the parking lot...which we don't.

So we were thinking that maybe someone had had their car broken into? Or been hit in the parking lot?

But it was quite the police presence for one car. Especially with no lights flashing and the officers kinda just standing around talking to the driver.

Which eventually the driver got out of the car....

And it was the dude from earlier.
The one looking for the plumbing department.

O.o
Had his car got broken into?
Like in the end the cops took a couple pictures and like wrote things down and then left.
Leaving the customer with his car. And the guy left like ten minutes later....

But we heard from some people checking out in line.
That apparently the guy had been making a nuisance of himself over at the Lowes.
And that the store had called the cops on him because of it.

Which left me wondering...what had happened over there?

I figured I'd never know.

But.

Today while checking out a customer in line.
And she mentioned she worked at Lowes.

So I was like "OH hey! What happened with that weird person?"

She was like "We get a lot of weird people...."
So I clarified. "The one where you had to call the cops on because he was acting weird a couple weekends ago?"

And she was like OH. I KNOW THAT GUY. I MISSED MY LUNCH THAT DAY BECAUSE I HAD TO GO THROUGH THE SECRUITY CAMERAS WITH THE COPS.

Because apparently.
The customer had gone over to Lowes FIRST before coming to our store.

He'd parked in their parking lot. Wandered around and shopped and bought stuff. Left the store. Got into his car and drove over to our store.

Where he then had the incident with us.
And he apparently went back to Lowes on foot.
Did even more shopping.

And when he walked out of the store.

He couldn't find his car.

He wandered the parking lot like crazy (so the cameras prove) trying to find it before basically saying "It's been stolen!"
(I guess he didn't remember he'd parked in front of our store?)

And so the cops were called in for the missing vehicle....

Which may be why the cops were staking out our store because they'd found the car and were waiting to see who would come claim it? -Just my theory there.

And all the while the Lowe's employee was going over the security camera footage with the cops -because Lowes watches their parking lots unlike us- and showed them proof that he'd gotten in his car and drove away---

So like.
I'm not sure what happened with the customer.
But something wasn't right....
Like I wondered if he suffered a moment of short term memory loss or something?
Or I suppose drugs or something could be a factor too
But something happened to make him forget like the 15 minutes or so that was his journey to our store and back to Lowes....

Hopefully he's okay....

But I am glad to know the other half of the story too. As that makes a lot more sense really...

Helper Bee

I had to deal with a lot of cranky/needy/difficult customers today....
Which honestly I wonder if the time change was part of the reason why people were so...off today.

But at the same time.
I also had the weird experience of a lot of people being grateful for my help.

Like I get it once or twice usually in a day on good days.
Gratitude for me helping them.

But today it had to be like a dozen times that I had customers say some variation of "Thank you for your help!" "That was really helpful." "Wow, I've never had so much help here before. Thank you."

Which is an....interesting juxtaposition really for me.
Because on the one hand...I wasn't doing anything different.

I try to help out as much as I can.
And that does include like...telling you everything I know and actively trying to seek a solution for you most of the time.
Instead of just pointing and going "It's over there."

No. If I know answers and such I will talk your ear off about things lol.

And then on the other hand....it makes me wonder what kind of help my coworkers are giving, especially when customers go "I've never got this much help in ____ before."

Of course, my coworkers and I have different skill levels depending on which area/animal we're talking about.

In any case.

It was rather gratifying, especially after dealing with difficult customers, to have people be grateful for the help I provided them and vocalize it.
As it really did make the job a bit easier today, knowing that people were actually happy that I was giving them so much information on things. ^^;;

....Why?

I wonder about my coworkers a lot.
Mostly in the 'what are they thinking' sort of fashion.
Because honestly I wonder sometimes what goes on in their heads.

So this afternoon, like right after lunch.

I get a text from work.

Where apparently my coworkers decided that they needed to treat the fish system for Ick, but they weren't sure how to do that with the turtles now integrated in the fish system (as we'd moved them into one of the tanks recently)

And their solution had been to take the turtles out of the tank while the entire wall was being treated.
Which left them with the dilemma of "What do we do with the turtles now?"
Because we don't have a spot for them on the endcap as that's why they'd been moved to the wall.

Like...they could place them in a temporary tank we have for when we have to take reptiles off the floor. But they're healthy.....
So in the middle of their dithering they decided to text me to see what I would do.

And I...just had to shake my head.
As like...I'm pretty sure the lockline -the device that brings water into the tanks-for the turtle tank is one of the new ones that has a 'twisty' knob on it that allows you to decide how much water can enter the tank. Which means you can completely close it off so no fresh water comes into the system so that the fish can be treated along the wall without the turtle tank being affected.

But since the turtles were out of the tank system I could only assume that they'd already treated the tank....so closing the lockline wasn't an option.
The next option was to place them temporarily into our Feeder Goldfish tanks as we have two empty ones at the moment and that system is on a different water thing, so unless they treated that separate system as well....the turtles should be fine.

But then the text conversation continued in "Hey coworker treated with this chemical, two cup fulls, but the water still isn't blue...."

….Which was when I demanded a picture of this 'ick' solution.
Because...the only chemical that turns the water blue is one of the 'stronger' chemicals that only a manager should handle and use as it can stain the fingers blue as well and it's not good if it spills....
But it's also not used to treat ick most of the time.
It's used as a general cure sort of thing.

But THEN
Before sending me the picture of the chemical -which was the chemical that only a manager should be handling.
The next text message came in saying that they were treating because the snail tanks have a bunch of worms in their tanks.

-Which...seeing worms in the tank isn't a major concern as I believe most of them are bloodworms that somehow managed to hatch from eggs that may have somehow managed to survive the freezing process (yes its possible)
But also. We have two different snail tanks.
The one with our mystery snails in it isn't connected to the fish wall at all and so you'd have to treat the tank individually because no water from the wall flows into that tank. It's isolated.
But if it was the Nerite snails...then yes that would be on the fish wall.

BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY.
The blue chemical DOESN'T TREAT WORMS.
So like they weren't even properly treating the tanks in the first place.
Because Ick isn't worms. Ick is white spots on the fish.
Worms are more than often parasites.
And therefore should be treated with a parasite guard.
Which in our store comes in tablets that you toss in one per tank.
And to make sure it doesn't go into other tanks you would again, close the locklines to keep water from flowing in until the tablets dissolved.

Which I told my coworkers.
And they came back with "but there's worms in the Koi tank as well and that doesn't have one of the new locklines."

….First the snails and now the koi....*exhales*

I was like "Then while you're feeding the fish, treat those tanks." Because we turn off the entire fish system when feeding the fish to give the fish a better chance of getting food before it's swept away in the current. No current allows the tablets to dissolve and not immediately be taken to other tanks....

Like seriously....it seemed like such common sense to me.
But apparently isn't. *exhales*

So I told them how to treat those tanks and mentioned that since the water hadn't turned noticeably blue that it should be fine putting the turtles back in their tanks.

And then I discovered when I came in later in the day....
That my coworkers had completely taken apart the filter in the mystery snail tank so it wasn't even working properly...
And that there was a tank in our wall that actually had ick.

*face palm*

Can I just....be done with my coworkers today.
Because it's just....just frustrating.

Like I applaud that they were trying to take initiative.
But if you've never done something before....I would have probably checked in with someone experienced (and on the clock) first before attempting anything I've never done before because like....I'd want to avoid doing something wrong...

As it is.
Tomorrow sounds like it's going to be a day of complications.
Oh the joy.

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!
