Fish Friends

I ended up buying more fish today after work.
As I've been aching to get some more smaller fish back into my 125 gallon fish tank because all the fish I have recently acquired are the larger varieties.
And I wanted more smaller fish.

So I decided to venture into trying guppies again.
As I tried them once back in the early beginnings of my tank....only to have them die quickly.

But the tank is older.
Hopefully a bit more established.
And the Red Tuxedo Guppies I've been watching for like the past couple of weeks have been doing really good. None of them have died and they're all happy and thriving.
So I took a risk and bought seven of them to place in my tank to see how they do.

*Fingers crossed* That this time around they live.
Though if they don't, then that definitely establishes that I shouldn't put guppies in the big tank anymore.

We'll see.

I also ended up adding in another Angelfish
As I was down to one, and I didn't want her to get lonely after her mate died.
And the one I got was being all aggressive to the others in the tank at work.
So I was hoping that he'd be okay with being in the big tank.
So far....the two of them tend to be ignoring each other.

Which makes sense because the new angelfish is like half the size of my current angelfish. *shakes head* lol He looked so big at work, but I'd forgotten how big my current one actually is.

*fingers crossed* They do well together.

I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Reorganizing

It's been something that's been grating on me since like...well November really.
And that's been the state of my room.

It's been forever since I've had it in a 'clean' state where there's no little piles of clutter anywhere and everything is clean and organized.

I mean I have cleaned my room more than once since November.
But there's always been something not done.
And a lot of it has just been like...boxes of things that I'd gotten from my Mom after Dad had us go through her things after her passing.

It's been stuff that I haven't really wanted to go through, look at, think of.
And so it sat in a pile in my room.
Like a dark reminder of that time.

At this point...yah, my room is still a mess.
But that's what happens when you go reorganize everything lol.
Mostly I've been seeking to put away the knickknacks that I don't want to have out anymore and reorganize where everything else goes.
Which means a lot of ring around the rosie.
And my room still looking messy.

But I've made more progress in my room than I have in months today.
So I'm rather proud of that.
Even hung up some posters I've been wanting to hang up for like a year now.
So yay me. ^^;;

But yah.
Still have a bit to go.
Mostly in reorganizing those remaining knickknacks I haven't gotten to yet.
And getting everything else off my floor.

That's the key really.
Get the things off the floor.

We'll see if I manage it tomorrow or not.
But at least I managed to be semi productive while suffering with a headache today.
So yay me. :D

Plus I've managed to incorporate things of Moms into my room so that they mesh in and aren't like this stark reminder. They're more comforting.
Soothing.
And it's nice to have a better energy in my room than there has been.

Price Changes

So for the first time in a while, I, with the help of a coworker, were able to finish opening the department, which left us enough time to help out in the stocking department.

In which the Manager wanted us to change some planners for products and animals in the store.

Specifically the Reptiles.
I needed to replace the price tags for all the animals to update those.

Which apparently we're going to be getting back in our Milksnakes?! Woot! lol we'll see if one actually comes in lol.

But another one we're getting is the Reeves Turtle.
Which is new. Haven't sold that one before. I hope we get one in as from what I've googled, they look pretty cool!

Once I was done with the reptile adjustments, the Manager had me put up new tags for the Bedding used for our Small Pets.

Which was...less fun >.< Because the strips gave me a papercut underneath the nail on one of my fingers. So very much less fun.

But I also was able to move the bedding about to make sure each type was in its proper location.
So yay me!

The manager was like "Because you're so amazing you get two candies!" XD lol as they were giving out candy right when I finished that project.
Woot!
Yay me. ^^;;

So yah it was fun. At least it kept me busy for the last hour of my shift.

Hanging Out

There's something relaxing about hanging at a friends house watching shows and just...well relaxing.

It's nice to go somewhere and just...chill.

And it's been a while since I've been able to go to another's house.
And relax.

It always feels like when I go somewhere else, that there's expectations, pressure.
Or you know...energy that is either depressing or antagonistic or unwelcoming.

And it's just hard to relax in those places.

So for the most part the relaxation has come when I'm at my home, usually with no one else near.

So to be able to go to a friend's home and just...chill.
Relax.
Have fun?

It was nice.
So.
Very.
Nice.

I Can Lift It :D

It's always interesting when I come up to the front of the store to help out with a carryout for a customer.

Because usually I get some sort of comment along the lines of: "Are you sure you can lift this?"

Which I usually shrug off with a smile because I know how skinny and young I look.
My arms basically look like skin and bones. Very little muscle.
And weighing as little as I do.

It's very understandable that customers are skeptical of my ability to lift the bigger bags of dog/cat food or the cat litter or the cat towers because they can be heavy. Especially that Cat Litter.

But I don't usually have an issues with it.
The heaviest thing is like maybe 50lbs? And I can lift that alright. If it's awkward like a fish tank then yes of course I need help with it because it's too long for me to carry alone.

Today though.
A customer asked for help with a carry out.
It was a some cat litter that they needed help with.
And at first glance I thought it was one of the 40lb ones.

Which makes sense as to why the customer would be skeptical of me being able to lift it.

The customer was like: "You have to be the smallest person in the store! Are you sure you can lift this? It must be like a quarter of your weight!"

Which at the time I just kinda smiled and shrugged. "Yah I got it."

And when we got out to the customer's car?
I easily lifted it from the cart into the trunk.

Only then seeing that it was 20lbs of cat litter instead of the 40lbs I'd been expecting.
*shakes head*
the "Quarter of my weight" made more sense now because yah...20lbs is like a quarter of my weight.
But seriously I'm not that weak.
I'm pretty sure almost anyone could lift a quarter of their weight. (unless told not to by a Doctor or they're like...really young or really old...)

So like...doubting my ability to carry 20lbs?
Yeesh.
Not that weak.

Overwhelmed

The past few days have been slightly more difficult with me in the 'handling people' arena.
I've just been getting more easily annoyed.
And it usually happens when issues I think have been solved....end up resurfacing and causing more problems.

And when said points that are brought up again and again like a dog worrying it's bone...
Its difficult to remain sympathetic.
Because like....Why does the issue need to be brought up now?
Why can't it be settled?
Why can't the decision be made?

And if the problem is brought up while I'm under other stress...
It's very difficult for me to handle it because I don't want to handle yet another problem.
I don't want to try and rescue another situation.
I don't want to try and mediate something.

So yah.
It's been difficult.
I've been too overloaded with stressors and problems that I can't fully solve and it's annoying.
So annoying.

Time Change

It's so weird.

I mean, I'm rather used to switching our church times at the beginning of the Fall Semester for the various colleges because I live in a college town and a ton of people tend to move back into the valley with the starting of the new school year.

For us, our time change shifted to an hour later.
Which is...less good for me as it's closer to lunch time now which means church ends like an hour later....and while it's extremely helpful in helping us get to church on time because we're all already awake and such.
But not good for Fast Sundays as I barely did okay with fasting at our old church time...the new time would mean fasting longer. *exhales*

But it's something that is tolerated and I can only hope that it doesn't end up switching to a later time.

However, the major difference this time change has is that we also switched what room we meet in for Sacrament and such.

To our benefit it's a room closer to the doors where me and my roomies end up entering through. So if we're running late, it's quite easy to just dart in the doors rather than having to weave through half the building to get to our room.

Still it's weird.
We've been meeting in that old room for like...three years now? Ever since I moved into the ward.
So to have us switch to a different room?
So weird.
So very weird.
But it makes sense as our ward hasn't been large enough to fill the room we were in.
So hopefully this new place makes the ward feel 'larger' even though the space is 'smaller.'

I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Cleaning Cleaning Cleaning

I ended up cleaning out 4 of my 5 betta tanks today.
One I took down completely because I'm looking to decrease the amount of tanks I have for bettas.
-Plus the filter stopped working and I'd already moved the fish to other tanks.

Two of remaining four I ended up doing a deep clean out of.
As I was switching out the rocks in favor of sand and also getting rid of all the empty snail shells within those two tanks before adding in more snails to help keep the tank clean.

The third tank I just switched out cartridges and added snails to them.

And the last tank, had a betta in it that's been lethargic for the past few days.
And upon looking closer at the filter, I decided that if it was working...it was barely working, so I'd bought a replacement filter to put into the tank in hopes that it would help perk up my betta.
I also added snails to this tank...and a couple of guppies.
Because I was hoping that maybe the presence of other fish in the tank would stir my betta into being more active.
The two guppies -pretty cobra ones with black tails are doing fine in that tank. Swimming all over the place.
Poor Mr. Betta isn't being that active.
And I'm not sure why. *exhales*

Hopefully with a water change, new filter, and some buddies in his tank this betta will perk up, but we'll see.

In any case.
I'm now down to four betta tanks (and my 125 gallon tank), all which are looking nice and clean and healthy now. So yay! :D

Glad I was able to get the energy to do that today. ^^;;

Hanging Out

My sister called me out of the blue today,
Asking if I wanted to go grab dinner with her.
As it's been a while since we've hung out just the two of us.

And she was in town and looking to avoid the rush hour traffic as she figured it would be better to wait and go eat food and hang out with me than to be trapped in bumper to bumper traffic.

Which I was all too happy to oblige as I we don't chitchat as often now that she's moved away.

So we ended up at a Favorite restaurant of ours, Texas Roadhouse.
Which was fun because we used that as our meeting place and managed to show up basically at the same time. Woot! No waiting for us lol.

And then after the dinner we headed back to my place, and ended up taking different routes to get home...but due to it being the dinner hour, there was still rush hour traffic on basically all the roads.
So we ended up getting home about the same time too. Though this time I was the one to beat her home lol.

But yah.
It was fun to just get out of the house for a bit, eat good food, and bond more with Kikay as it's been a bit since we've been able to chat chat. :)

Nom Nom Sugar

So, I'd just woken up from like a 2 hour nap.
Which is something I haven't really done in like...two months or so?
I've been keeping my naps shorter like 15-30 minutes most of the time because I've been wanting to write and focus on that and haven't been as...tired tired.

But I felt like I should probably take a longer nap today because I could afford to do so as I can stay up late if I want to.

In any case.
2 hours later I woke up again,
And checked my phone.
And noticed that there was a random email from Crumbl. A popular cookieshop in the area that has recently (like just last year) opened a location near us.

So for funsies I checked what cookies they were offering this week.
-As they sell six different types of cookies, but only 2 stay the same each week. The other four vary by the week.

And in this weeks' line up?

Was SeaSalt and Nutella.

Which was a cookie that my manager introduced me to last year around Octoberish?
As he brought a bunch of them for the store.
And it was delicious and I delightful and I loved it!
Like I don't usually go for nutella but in a freshly baked cookie?
It's the best!

And I hadn't had that cookie in like...a year.

So I dragged my roommates out of the house and off we went adventuring to get ourselves fresh baked cookies.

And the Nutella cookie was just as delicious as I remembered! Ahh.
So good.

I may go grab another one after work on Saturday because it probably won't be around next week.

A Visit

We had the DM come into the store today.
To do a much deeper walk through with the managers than they had done last week when we had the big big big visitors come in.

Which is semi irritating because the DM was just THERE last week. *exhales*

But at the same time it's a good thing.
Because my manager over my department has never, to my knowledge, done a walk through the department with the DM.
As they're usually off that day or come in after the DM has left. So any information on the walks through the department has been second hand.

So I figured it was a good thing to have my Manager finally present for the walk, that way they could see in person what the DM is expecting from the department.

Obviously my manager was nervous. Having not done the walk before.

Overall though it seems that things went alright.
They were still going through department stuff when I left.
So I don't know all that we need to improve on.

But I did hear a few tidbits here and there.

Like us needing to feed Bloodworms to the Fish every Friday after the new shipment comes in.

Which we had been doing, but I've been trying to order in new bloodworms for us to use from our store supplies...and guess what? They haven't sent us any for MONTHS. I keep trying and Nothing. *exhales* But the DM gave us permission to use bloodworms in the store to feed the fish. So yay there.

Then there was some little details about the fishtanks like needing floating plants for the angelfish tanks...which we did have at one point but they vanished.
Methinks a clueless coworker through them away. *exhales*
But I fixed that as soon as I heard we still needed them by having a manager write off some more plants and putting them immediately in the tanks.
And then apparently our small parrots need to have three toys instead of two. So I grabbed more toys to put into their cages.

I know there's a lot of other little details.
But I haven't found out what those are yet.
But at least my manager has a better idea of what is expected in the department.
So yay that.

Guess we'll see how it all turns out after that.

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

A Rude Message

*exhales*
I hate getting...stressful news in the morning.
Because like I've just woken up.
I'm ready to have a 'good' day.
And getting any sort of messages or notes that are less than....good....is stressful.
And often causes me to get a headache.

So yesterday I finished posting my 11 chapter fic right?

Well part of the posting process is 'tagging' people to let them know that you've posted the next chapter in the story.
And with Tumblr...that can be a bit hit and miss. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't but overall it works.
The process of tagging is relatively simple.
You just put the '@' symbol and then type in the person's username and walla. They're tagged!

But with this particular story.
The taglist got super long.
Like it would take me 15-20 minutes if not longer to tag everyone on that list.

But as a people pleaser I went a head and spent the time tagging everyone to make sure everyone was notified.
Which I have done for every single chapter.
And also have adjusted through posting each chapter to ensure everyone still got notified on said chapter.

And this morning.
I wake up to this message in my inbox of
"I loved the story but I wished you would have used the taglist so I could have read it as soon as it was posted."

Like.
What?
WHAT?
What do you mean "would have used the taglist?"
ARE YOU FREAKING BLIND?
I USED THAT TAGLIST
I SPENT A GOOD TWENTY MINUTES TYPING OUT THAT TAGLIST.
And upon double checking said list, did confirm that the individual was on the list and that I had tagged them.

So like. What do you mean?!
Like are you BLIND?
I clearly stated at the end of the chapter that I would be reblogging the taglist -because the taglist had gotten so long that people would only get tagged if I put the list in a reblog for whatever glitchy reason.

And I knew other people had been notified because they were getting results.

So like. The gall.
the selfish selfcentered gall to think that I didn't do the freaking work to get that taglist out to people so that they would be notified.

Nope nope nope.
Oh I was mad.
Upset with this person because like....even if the website messed up and didn't notify people -which happened in early chapters until I 'fixed' it.- I had made it clear numerous times that chapters would be posted on Mondays and Thursdays.
And I was consistent in that posting schedule. It might have been late in the evening by the time I finally got a chapter out, but by golly there was a chapter out every Monday AND Thursday.
So like you could have always checked my website if you didn't get a notification to see if I had posted the chapter yet.

But noooo I 'didn't use a taglist' because they didn't get a notification. XP
Like put a little effort into it?
Besides. I know it worked. The tagging system worked because multiple people commented that they had been tagged.
Soooo it's probably the other person's fault they didn't receive the notification. Whether they don't have emails hooked up to the site to get notified, or if it's a glitch on their end.

But yah.
I am still not happy, hours later, about how the reader stated that.

Like I've gotten messages before about issues with notifications. But none so passive aggressive and outright rude as this.
I didn't like it.
Though I did manage to stay pretty 'calm' in my response to them.
*exhales*

Not. Happy.
But hopefully it doesn't happen again.
And since the chapter is posted I don't have to worry about that particular taglist again until I decide to write and post a sequel I suppose. ^^;; lol.

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Finished

I just finished posting my second longest story today.
Coming in at just a little over 25k words.
It's been a project I've been working on since like...maybe September or so last year?

And it's been crazy.
The difference between posting this particular fic as compared to my first long fic.

As my first long fic was over 30k words and had to be posted all within one day because I was doing it for a Big Bang event.
And the rules for that big bang were the entire story needed to be posted on the same day.
Which was fine.
and I was rather proud of the fact that I managed to finish and post the story on my posting date last year.

But the major thing that I missed from posting it all in one go.
Was the build up.
The anticipation.
An entire story in one day means that the reader doesn't have to wait for updates.
But it also limits the amount of people who can see the story you posted unless you like reblog it like crazy afterwards.

And without the anticipation of 'when is the next chapter coming'
It also means that I don't get to add people to taglists. I don't have people wanting to know when the next chapter comes out. I don't get people following me and talking with me and sending me asks about the chapters.

And I missed that.

I thrive off of feedback from my readers and posting the story all in one shot limited my ability to adjust the chapter if it needed adjusting.

As that's one thing that I've found while posting multichaptered stories is that it gives me time to see what the readers are anticipating, to notice details I had glossed over and to see which parts of the story would need improvement.

Posting it all at once?
Yah you just gotta rely on yourself and hope you made good judgement calls on everything that happened.

And having only had the Big Bang Fic as my longest fic before this point....

I honestly wasn't expecting a huge reaction when I posted the first of eleven chapters.
As I've posted first chapters of multi-chaptered stories. But those stories are short usually under 5 chapters long.

This one was 11 chapters.
25k words.

And posting a chapter twice a week...that's still like 5 weeks of posting. Over a month. So there's a lot of time to build up anticipation in readers.

I just didn't expect such a huge response.
From the very first chapter....people were hooked. Wanting more. Excited for updates.
My taglist got super long.
Like over a page of names long.
It was crazy.

With this ONE story I had around 400 people follow me.
O.o
And that's crazy.
So crazy because previous stories usually get me like 5-20 people following me.
So to have 400 people.

It's huge.
I've never expected such a response.

But I'm grateful for the experience.
To see people's anticipation and their reactions to each chapter. XD lol.

And it was also great to help me make the story better.
As it helped me see things that were missing in later chapters.
And it gave me time to adjust them.
To make the story better.

Like I'm pretty sure I added about 6k words after I began posting the story.
As with each huge response I got.
Came the pressure of wanting to be better. To please the audience. To make sure I didn't disappoint them.

So like chapters 5 and on ended up going through major rewrites to ensure that the chapter was in it's best condition before I posted it. ^^;;

And it was so worth it.

It makes me a little sad that my Big Bang Fic couldn't have the opportunity to get a similar response because it was all posted in one day last year.

But writing is always about learning.
And I loved the learning experience of both.
And how I've grown from writing both long fics.

I can't wait for the next story.

^^;;
Hopefully the response is just as positive for the next fic as it was for this one. ^^;;

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

MY PEN

As a Writer, I'm rather particular about the pens I use.

Not as particular as some other people I've known.
Mostly if it writes well and smoothly, it's a good pen.

Which is a bigger deal for me because not all pens like left-handed people.
And being a lefty--finding a good pen can sometimes be hard.

In any case.

I found a good source of pens to use to write with.
From a rather unexpected place.

My Dentist.

As they have a cupholder filled with pens everytime I visit.
And everytime I'm there I ask them, if I can take one. Because I normally run out of ink in my pen about the same time I end up at the dentist again, so it usually works out as they usually say yes I can take it.

They're good pens. Write well. Last a while. The ink though changes between blue or black depending on the visit.

In any case.

I've taken to using them as my work pens.

Because in my department I have to have customers fill out some paperwork whenever they choose to buy an animal that isn't a fish.
And it's easier to keep a pen on me than to go hunt one down as pens disappear from the store quite often.
So if I always have one on me....I can never loose it.
--Until it runs out of ink really.

But yah, I'm rather partial to my pens.

But I'm used to giving these particular ones to customers and then getting it back.

Yet, earlier this week.
I had a customer come into the store looking to adopt a cat.

And from the first interaction...
The customer just....rubbed me the wrong way.
They didn't have a good energy to them and it was like nails on a chalkboard interacting with the customer.

They were very particular about the 'type' of cat they wanted. Which most of the kittens we had had just barely come in so I didn't have much information on them and had no idea some of the details and such.

In any case. The customer decided on one kitten that was a bit more cuddly than the others and had short hair, because the customer was adamant that the cat not have long fur.

-But didn't know enough about cats to realize that if a cat has short hair it will stay short haired.

However, there was a slight snag in that the customer needed to know the date of the rabies vaccination the cat had because they needed to fill it out on a form that their landlord had provided to get permission to have a cat in the place they were staying at. (Like an Emotional Support Animal)

The problem?
The kitten was too young to get the rabies. As they have to be a certain age before it's given.
Not a big deal because this particular adoption group provides a voucher that lets you take the kitten to specific vets to get the rabies shot for free.

But the customer would have to do that.
So they needed to call their landlord and check and see if it was still alright to have the cat even though it was too young for the rabies. --Though they were relieved to find out that they could go get the cat it's rabies vaccination the same day they adopted it as the voucher merely stated it needed to be given before the end of the month otherwise the voucher was void.

In any case, before making the call the customer asked me if they could borrow a pen.
I figured so that they could write on the paperwork they'd brought with them, or write notes and such from the phone call.

Having given my pen out to customers multiple times before I didn't think anything about letting the customer borrow my pen.

Until I handed it to them.

Because the customer immediately brought the pen up to their lips...and began rubbing the clicky end against their lips as they waited for the person on the other end of their phone call to pick up.

Again and again in circles they rubbed MY pen against THEIR lips.

Like.
EWWWW
Dearest Customer do you KNOW where that Pen has been?!
Do you KNOW how many different hands have touched that thing? Do you KNOW where it's been?
DON'T PUT YOUR LIPS ON A STRANGERS PEN THAT'S GROSS.

Plus, that was like one of my favorite pens and now it just felt like the customer had throughly contaminated it.

I said nothing.
Just watched with disgust as the customer did that and wrote notes and finally handed it back to me.

I made sure to thoroughly sanitize with hand sanitizer afterwards because EWW
I don't want to touch my pen when it's been on YOUR lips.
Gah.

-_- definitely didn't like that particular customer interaction.

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Another Note

*exhales*
There's something definitely going on with my coworker.
As they've gotten a lot more paranoid over things at work the past month or so.
And this past week have been driving me a bit crazy with all the notes being left.

Like I'd grown to expect the paranoia over reptiles and wanting them to be healthy and such.
But this past week before the Big Visit was paranoia over the bird cages.

And today.
It was Crickets.
Specifically the dishes we place the cricket water (clear jello cube things) into.

So I came into work this morning to find that said coworker had written a note Thursday evening at some point.
As I had worked Thursday morning, but left before they came on shift.

I didn't work Friday.
And so didn't see the note until today.

And the note basically said "We need to change the cricket water everyday as it's breeding flies like crazy."

Which in of itself, is a good policy to have.
And it IS actually a policy we have. It's PART of the opening procedure we have. You have to check the food and water and replace it as necessary.
Usually with the water I end up replacing it daily especially for the large crickets because they can go through it pretty quickly when we have a ton of them in there.

And guess what I had done Thursday Morning?
Exactly that.
I'd checked the crickets and given them fresh cricket water.

So the fact that my coworker possibly found maggots in there...is odd.
Since the water itself was fresh.

And that's why I got irritated.
Because I HAD changed the water.
I HAD done it.

And the note made it seem like I wasn't properly doing my job.

Because guess what? Since I'm basically the ONLY one who opens.
I'm really the ONLY one who consistently changes out the cricket water as I know it's not usually done on my days off because I come in after my days off to see the cricket water looking like it hadn't been touched.

So yah.
irritated that my coworker keeps writing notes about opening procedures because like....I KNOW THEM already. I KNOW what to do.

*exhales*
Yah.
I'm not in a good mood over that. Not at all.

I'll be watching the leaves.

Reading Woes

So this past month or so I've been posting chapters of a story I wrote online.
And the response to it has been far more than I ever expected a story of mine to ever receive.
Lol because of this story I've gained like nearly 400 followers.
And that's just crazy.
Because most other stories I've posted only gain me like 5-20 new people.
So to have almost 400 new people follow me over the course of a month?
Super crazy.

And there are times where I'm so confused as to why people like the story so much.
Like I like it because I thought the idea was cool.
But I've stared at my writing and the chapters so much....it's hard to see it as a reader would see it.
Hard to see why people like it.
Like I know it's good. But great? Publishing material?
Sometimes I have my doubts.

And then I read books that have actually been published.
And I realize.
I can write so much better than what I'm reading.

*shakes head*
I had that experience today as I actually sat down and read a book.
And it was a difficult story to get through.
And the only reason why I read the thing through to the end was because I'm stubborn and I'm trying to read more books than my family this year in an ongoing reading challenge.

But like the plot? The pacing? The story telling?
*exhales*
It wasn't up to my standards.
It felt like 'beginner' writing to me.
Like the plot was very "action by action" oriented. Where the author felt the need to go through every single moment of every single day.
And it's what I consider a 'beginner's' way of writing stories.

Because really you don't always have to cover every single moment of the day.
Just cover the important parts.
The parts that drive the story forward.

That's one of my main focuses on each chapter I write.
That there is a goal that needs to be met. That something interesting is happening in the chapter.
It doesn't always have to be some big crazy thing.
But just something interesting enough to keep your readers reading and wanting more.

And the book I just read?
Only managed to get to the interesting part like 180 pages in.
*exhales*
That's over halfway through the book.
The story before that?
Really could have been covered in half the pages probably.

But yah.

It's reading books like that.
Where I begin to see why people like my stories so much. Like reading my writing style.

So yah. ^^;;
Good to know that I can write better than some books that have been published.
Gives me more hope that I may be able to succeed if I ever actively go seek to get my stories published more officially with fancy covers and such. lol.

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

MisCommunication

It was a rough ending to my work day.
As I'd spent the last couple of hours trying to 'help' people that were being....well difficult.
Not difficult in the difficult sense.
But difficult in that there was like this 'wall' in our communication styles so it was hard for the customers and I to get our respective points across.

They knew exactly what they wanted.
But weren't able to communicate it in such a way that I could easily understand what they wanted.

Like a customer wanting to adopt a cat, but needing extra paperwork filled out that involved a lot of questions I didn't know the answers to and time wasted as they called various people to get the answers they needed, as well as accidentally filling out the paperwork for the wrong cat and gAH.

Then there were multiple fish customers in a row with filter questions that were difficult to answer.
Like one dude wanted a round undergravel filter but we didn't carry that and he knows we don't carry it and no one else carries it in the size he needed but he wanted us to carry it and what solution could I offer for him when we don't have what he wants....
His manner of speaking was soo....difficult to work through as I could tell our communication styles were different and I knew he knew what he was talking about but communicating that need was difficult for me to understand. *exhales*
Especially when he was convinced we carried the tank he had though the tank he was describing was ten gallons bigger than the one he pointed out on the shelf as being the 'same' one.
And like....idk.

It was hard.
I hate not being able to help people.
and it felt like the later part of the day was one failure after another in being able to help customers find what they needed.

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Coming In

I came in early to work today.
To help out the managers.
As we had one of the big big big bosses coming in.
Bosses that have the ability to fire people on the spot.
So like....there was a lowkey panic going on that the managers were going to get fired.
Unwarranted really. Because like....I've yet to see anyone get fired on the spot.

But yah. There was a lowkey panic going on to get the store ready for our important visitors.

So I came in early to make sure that my department was up to snuff.
All the i's dotted and the t's crossed.

And...

Our Visitors barely glanced at my department.

*exhales*

They were more focused on the Salon and the 'Numbers' this time around.
And the only numbers that really related to my department was our Pet Loss.
And that was lower compared to last year.
Sooo yah my department was good.

But it is kinda frustrating.
Do all this work.
Have all this stress.
Do all this cleaning.

To not have it looked at.

*exhales*

I suppose on the bright side it means that they couldn't find anything 'wrong' if they don't see it lol.

Still though.
It left me wondering why I came in early in the first place. *shakes head*

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.

Fish Trouble

*Exhales*
I know that my coworkers mean well.
And I do appreciate when they help me out. Because I'm far too used to working by myself and so getting help is usually appreciated.

But there are days where I just kinda wish I hadn't had the help, as I probably could have gotten things done faster on my own.

So today.
We got in two boxes of Feeder Goldfish.

One was a shipment of Xsmalls that had been supposed to arrive last week.
The other a shipment of Small and Large goldfish.

I hadn't had time to place them in their tanks though, focused as I was on other things.
But I did have time to check the smaller box and grab the invoice to confirm that it was the missing shipment from last week. Which it was.
And I left the paper invoice on top of that box with the intention to come back to it after lunch.

But during lunch, the manager watching the department for me put the goldfish out for me.
I'm not sure if it was their decision to do so or if they were told to do so by the Head Manager...

But in any case. They decided to put the goldfish out.....

Though to my knowledge....this particular manager had never worked in my department, had never put the goldfish out before.

*exhales*
And that's the problem right there.

They'd seen the first invoice I'd left on top of the box and had known that that box contained the xsmall goldfish.

So they placed all of those ones into ONE tank. When usually each size of goldfish has two tanks to place them in. So we usually split new shipments of goldfish between the tanks so as to not overload one tank.

But nope. Into one tank went the 600 xsmall goldfish.

But then the manager encountered a slight problem with the second box that contained small and large goldfish.

Why?
Because they didn't 'see' the invoice for that box.
Because I hadn't taken the paper out of it's little plastic packaging on top of the box yet.
*exhales* Who knew why my manager didn't notice the paper. Perhaps they just were sight blind to it because they hadn't needed to look for it before.

But instead of waiting to discover what fish we'd gotten in....
Like trying to find the invoice on the computer or looking at the box closer or asking another manager where to find the invoice.

They just basically eyeballed it.
And since the first box had constained Xsmall goldfish....
They assumed that the smaller fish in the second box were also Xsmall.
(Though we like never get two bags of the same size goldfish in together. It's really rare)
So they placed all the large goldfish into one tank.

And then placed the bag of small goldfish into the second tank of Xsmall goldfish.
Meaning 1200 xsmall goldfish were placed in 2 tanks.

*exhales*

So when I get back from lunch.
I discover that the goldfish had already been put into the tanks.
Which yay! One less thing for me to do.

But then my manager was like "Oh hey, I couldn't find the second invoice."

O.o Huh? If you couldn't find the second invoice...how did you know what fish to put in what tanks??

That's when I realized --after pointing out to my manager exactly where they could find the invoice....that 600 goldfish had been placed in the wrong tank.

Which meant I needed to fish them out and place them in their proper tanks.
And then needed to divide out the xsmalls so that they all weren't in one tank.
As well as the Large as well.

And i noticed while fishing out the fish.
That the white stones (some sort of ammonia blocker thing?) that come in many of the goldfish bags had also ended up in the tank.

So i went to inform my manager that we didn't want those in the fish tanks. (as they're supposed to be kept clear of rocks and things)

Which is when my manager then asked "How do you avoid that when you dump the bags in."

Dump. The. Bags. ....In?

You don't dump the bags of goldfish into the tank.
You place them in a bucket and then fish them out of the bucket so that the ammonia filled water wouldn't end up in our system.

As goldfish give off a lot of ammonia.

It's not like our fish shipments where you can dump the water in the fish bags for the regular fish right into the system.

No goldfish bags you don't dump that water in.

But my manager, not knowing different....did exactly that.

*exhales* I really hope we don't lose fish because of that.

But yah.
What was supposed to save me time....ended up taking me like twenty minutes to correct because the manager hadn't ever been trained on how to properly put out the feeder goldfish.

So yah.
Frustrating.

But hopefully....it won't happen again.
Hopefully.

I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Moving About

Moving Day!

Not for me though.

No, I'm sticking around for a bit. lol.

But moving day for my new roomie!! Woot!
And I'm more excited about this particular roomie because we've been like friends for forever!
And I'm looking forward to living with her again.
As our energies tend to be similar, and our interests are pretty similar, so we get along pretty well.
Plus she also more easy going, and I'm looking forward to have a more relaxed roomie to be around where I don't have to worry about getting on the wrong foot.

So yah!
I helped her move in, carrying boxes and such and even went to her old place to help her move a couple larger pieces of furniture since I had a larger car. :D

But yah...going into her old place was weird.
Because it was like one of those old pioneer houses.
And the layout of the house didn't make sense at all.
But made for a great place to explore lol.
The rooms connected weirdly, and there were weird features like...a sink in the hallways....and not in the bathroom where there was also another sink.
And my new roomie's old room had this door in it where you could enter and exit---if there were stairs. But there weren't. It was just a door in the wall with the outside ground like three feet below. O.o
So. Weird.

I couldn't explore much since I was helping her move things.
But it was one of those old houses where I would suspect there to be a secret room, or random staircases and I just wanted to explore....

Wouldn't want to live there though. :S :S :S That place had such the creepy 'old' vibe to it. :S
It wouldn't surprise me if it was haunted really lol.

I think my friend is excited to be away from the place.
Hopefully she likes living here.

I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Too Hot

So yesterday, I got my roomie a new betta fish as hers had passed away a couple of days earlier and she wanted to replace him.

Didn't think much about it after I gave her the fish, beyond the typical hope after I give people fish, that it doesn't die.

But then later tonight.
My roomie came to me saying that her fish was weird because he was swimming upsidedown.

O.o
Upsidedown....isn't a good sign.
Though usually when I see fish swimming upsidedown it's a swim bladder sort of issue.

So I came upstairs to check out the fish.

And found him upsidedown on the gravel, gills flaring rapidly as the fish struggled to breathe.

It was...odd.

So I had my roomie get a net so we could poke him and get him to move just so I could see how he was acting.

And he spazzed for a second before going back to the bottom....still upside down.

I don't quite remember what I did next.
But I did end up touching the side of the tank.

And it was very warm to the touch.
Warmer than it should be.

As even with a heater in the tank, the water usually ends up still feeling cold to the touch.
So the fact that the water felt warm....

Meant that the tank was probably far too warm for the betta to be able to survive.

As I've made that mistake a couple of times doing betta water changes where I'd made the new water too warm for the fish to be able to survive.

Which meant that I now had a solution.
The solution.
Cool down the tank.
Put the fish in cooler water.

So I had my roomie unplug the heater so it wouldn't be heating the water anymore.
And then I did multiple water changes in the tank.
Taking out a cup of water, putting in a cup of cold water, taking out a cup of water, putting in a cup of cold water, until I got the small tank feeling cooler to the touch.

The betta was still acting oddly when I left the room, but he wasn't acting as odd as he had when the water had been warmer, so at this point I'm just hoping that the cooler temperatures in the tank helps him to recover.

I think he will.
But time will tell.

I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

The AC

So we finally had a guy come out to look at the AC today.

Which it got delayed a day as he should have come yesterday--but you know it's summer and everyone seems to be having problems with their ACs as people are busy busy busy.

But in any case.
He finally showed up to see why our AC wasn't blowing as strongly as it should be.

And he's pretty sure that our coils in the AC unit need to be replacing as when he checked the utilities closet area...there wasn't cold air blowing where there should have been cold air. So he thinks new coils and possibly that we're low on Freeon or something.

But also, after looking at the unit outside, he gave us some rather....irritating news?

As like two years ago we'd had the AC go out on us.
And had the motor replaced in the unit so that we wouldn't die in the heat.

Only apparently.
The people who replaced the motor gave us a crappy one?
One that wasn't a good fit for our AC unit at least. And wasn't as good of quality (i.e. it would break down a lot faster than it should)

So the guy was like "We need to get you a proper motor that's actually right for the unit."
As he believes all three thigns, the freeon, new coils, and a better motor will help our AC unit run more efficiently and will help prevent there being such a noticeable temperate difference between the basement and the upstairs because there's a good ten degree or so difference between the floors.

Unfortunately.....we can't get the AC unit fixed until Monday. You know...gotta get all the parts ordered in and such.

But at least the AC is still at a point where we can still use it to keep the house semi cool---it's just not cooling down as efficiently as it should be.

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Moving Woes

It's definitely a week to be frustrated at the house it seems like.
*exhales*

As you see, we have a new roomie moving in in the next couple of days.
And since Fourth Roomie decided to move upstairs to the bedroom Kikay used to occupy---it meant she would have to move all her stuff upstairs.
Which she managed to mostly do over the course of a couple of days.
To the point where I was like "Oh hey! At this rate we may be able to help the new roomie out and have the room ready early so that she can begin in moving sooner than planned."

Only for the past TWO DAYS.
The roomie hadn't touched the last handful of things left in her old room.
And like I glanced inside and it was literally a bunch of odds and ends that could fit in one box and could probably be cleaned up in like maybe 10 minutes?

So it wasn't like she had a ton left to do to completely vacate her old room so then I could help Ash with prepping the room for our new roomie (i.e. vacuuming the carpets, washing the walls, moving furniture and beds in, etc) as she officially takes the room tomorrow and we wanted to have like a day or two to make sure everything was fine and nothing needed to be fixed or deeply cleaned before she moved in. (Though due to circumstances she can't move in until Monday, she still officially has the room tomorrow)

And so like yesterday to the roomie I was like "Hey I can help you move the rest of your stuff if you need to. Put it in a box or something."
--As she's been focusing the past couple of days on projects and school things....but at the same time she had so little left to do in the room that like...why hadn't she finished it two days ago?? *exhales*

And she said maybe I could help her tomrorow (today)
Which....
Ended up happening like towards sunset. XP

But I was just grateful she finally decided to take action and get the rest of the odds and ends out.
But annoyed because I was right.
It literally took 10ish minutes to gather everything up and get it out??

Like...why couldn't you have done this two days ago? So I could have helped out my friend moving in and had the room ready early so that she could start moving in like today maybe or yesterday and not Monday.

*exhales*
But Monday it is for our new roomie.

At least Ash and I managed to get the room ready and prepped so in case she drops by tomorrow (I doubt it, but just in case) she'll have the room ready regardless.

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

The Upstairs Heat

So we had something happen with our AC today....where the air suddenly wasn't blowing as strongly out of the vents as it had been.
Like the air coming out of it was still cold.
But for whatever reason it was barely there.
Like the faintest of faintest of breezes where you could really only feel the air coming  out of it if your hand was like two inches away from the opening of the vent.
Which is quite weak, especially when I'm pretty sure we could feel it from a good foot or so away if not further before now.

At this point I'm halfway thinking that something in the AC unit somewhere froze and that we just need to keep the AC off for a bit in order to let everything thaw out.
As I believe that that's something that can happen? Even in the heatwave we've been experiencing....

In any case.
We decided to keep the AC off for a while, and ended up informing our fourth roomie of this plan to not have the AC blowing because a) it's pointless if it's not really circulating air and b) would be a waste of energy and c) we don't really want to break it further if something is broken.

And I thought that she would take the news alright....like it meant the upstairs would remain slightly hotter.
Which it had been reading about 78.
So warm, but not as warm as it could have been.

But roomie kinda freaked out.
Saying that it was already 'too hot' and if we couldn't get the AC fixed soon then she would have to go sleep elsewhere for the evening.

Which yah....It makes sense. I think we all have difficulty sleeping well when the house is warmer than like 76 or so.

But at the same time.
There was literally nothing we could do.
We had gone through various possible solutions to try and fix the airflow and it wasn't working.
So the best thing we had until we could get professionals to come look at the AC was to not have it on.

*exhales*

I don't understand the freakout.
Yes I understand the dislike of heat. Cus I too don't like heat.
But the freakout doesn't really help any of us.
It's not like we were purposely trying to make the house unlivable.
Things break.
We get it fixed as fast as we can.
But sometimes that means a day or so with it potentially broken.
Like we're all suffering here.
Not just you.

XP
Ugh.
It just gives me flashbacks to the last fourth roomie we had because the AC went out on her too and she had the same sort of freakout about the heat upstairs.
*exhales*
Like if it's too warm for you upstairs....then just hangout downstairs?
It's a simple solution right there.

*shakes head*

I don't get it.

But I hope we get the AC fixed soon regardless because I would like just a bit of peace in the house for once.

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!
