Come Out Come Out

Neon Tetras are annoying.

Why?
Because they hide all the time!!
Like. I put you in my tank so I could see you schooling.
But are you schooling where I can see you?
No.

*exhales*

I suppose that is the downside to putting a lot of decorations in my tank.
It gives my fishies more places to hide.

And considering I have two breeding pairs of angelfish that like to chase other fish away from their egg laying locations...
It makes sense that a lot of the smaller fish will hide away from them.

Still.
I was hoping with the redecoration of my tank.
And adding in like 20 more neon tetras.
I would at least see them schooling around the tank more.

Because really, when they do come out their blue and red coloration is Sooo pretty and vibrant and I love to see it!!

But currently, they only seem to venture out of their hiding places when I feed them.
Otherwise they lurk i the shadows and hide behind the decorations in the back of the tank.

Which foo.
>.<
At least I have some rasboras and danios to provide a bit more smaller movement to my tank.
I just wish there was a bit of that blue color swimming around more too.

>.>
*fingers crossed* that the Neons will decide to be more social....soon.

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Water Pump Down (Continued)

So, to continue the story from yesterday, now that I've actually been to work and seen the problems and stuff....

Apparently last night, towards the end of the work day,
Our fish system began flashing a red light and randomly turned off.

-We have a small Red-Yellow-Green light device above the fish that is visible on the floor that allows us to see at a glance how our system is doing.
So...Flashing Red? Not a good sign.
That means trouble.

The manager on duty was like. O.o Well...that's not good.
And they turned the system back on but didn't seem to have any more issues for like...half an hour.
But then, it shut off again, turned back on, and suddenly...the manager could smell a burning scent.

Which...last time that happened, it was because on of the motors that power one of the pumps had burned out. Aka. Died. Aka Needed to be replaced.

In any case, the manager in charge was like. ()_() AHHH!!!!
And called my manager (who is in charge of the department and works with the fish system) for help.

-Which now makes sense why the manager knew about the problem because I knew he hadn't been scheduled to work that evening.
So it makes sense that he was called in to check it out and such.

Well...fiddling with it....didn't help at all. And like...the system was now leaking and such.... :S Nothing really could be done to fix it after an hour.
And after about the same amount of time talking to the Solutions Center on the phone...
It was decided that it would be best if the entire system was shut off.
Letting it rest and such.

Which was basically when my manager contacted me about the situation and asked me to look at in the morning and see if it was any better or not.

So this morning I came in.
To see that the system had indeed been completely shut off.
Which...was bad news for our Feeder Goldfish as if there's no flowing water....it gets pretty stagnant in there really quickly. :S Yikes.

-As usually when we turn the system off, it's just off. We don't use the "Completely Off" tool as regular "Off" will turn off the water flowing to the main fish system, but leave the feeder goldfish system up and running so water is continually flowing within it.

So first step for me.
Was to move the fish system from "complete off" to "off" so that I could see if the goldfish part of the filtration was working.
Which thankfully it was.
Otherwise it could have been really bad for them....

In any case, once I established that that was flowing.
I turned on the rest of the system just to see what was up.

and Yah....
No water was flowing into the main fish system.
Even though it was on.
There was a huge leak above the sump (where water runs through the filter cartridges)
And I could see that two of the three pumps weren't quite working.

So I turned that part off.
:S Because there was no point in it being on if no water was running through the pipes anyways.

And yah....
Thankfully, maintenance was able to send out a guy quickly.
So by like 10 am we had a guy back there looking at everything and figuring out what was wrong and such.

Needless to say....our system is old and cranky.

The end result?
A) He fixed our Fluidized Bed that wasn't working.... (hadn't realized it wasn't working. Manager said it doesn't ever really work properly)
B) One of the connector pipes leading to Pump 3 cracked, so the pipes were sucking in air instead of water to the pump which...makes it difficult to work when it's meant to be run with water.... So the connector needs to be replaced but at least the pump itself seems to be fine.
C) Pump 2. Completely dead. It burned out. So it needs to be replaced as there's nothing that can be done to fix it. Unfortunately...the part is more than likely going to take a week or two to arrive. :S Yikes.
D) A couple of the relays burned out. -the thingies that talk to the pumps to tell them to turn on and off and such- So those need to be replaced and most likely got fried when Pump 2 burned out and Pump 3 began sucking air instead of water. *exhales*

So all in all...
Yikes yikes.

At least the maintenance guy was able to get the system up and running again.
He unplugged Pumps 2 and 3 so there would be no issues with them trying to run.

So we have ONE pump working its hardest to get water flowing into our 80 someodd fish tanks.
Which means the water flow isn't that strong, but at least the tanks have access to fresh water.

We've also been advised to turn the system off as little as possible until the other two pumps can be fixed. As the constantly turning on and off of the system could be more strain on the remaining pump we have. (Good thing it's like...brand new right?)

But hey....at least we have flowing water.
So Woot!!!

Hopefully we can get priority so that all the parts we need will come in sooner rather than later.
Because having our fish system limping along....not fun.
It's also very stressful.

*fingers crossed*

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Water Pump Down

Well, tomorrow is going to be interesting at work.
I was notified earlier that our fish system is down.
*exhales*
Which is...not good.
I mean, it's not something new.
We had our fish system go down...well like 6 months ago? Possibly?
I don't know, it feels like it was recently but time moves weird in the pet store world.
But one of the fish pumps had burnt out.
One of three.
We got it replaced.
Easy fix.

Well....apparently, sometime this afternoon, after I left work...
The other two pumps decided that now was their time to burn out too.
And with two of our three pumps down....
Water isn't being pushed through our fish system.
Because one pump isn't strong enough to do ALL the work.

So for at least the night...
Our system is going to be off.
So no flowing water.
*exhales*
Which isn't always good....because you know....the fish need to have flowing water in order to get a constant supply of fresh oxygen and such.
:S Hopefully with the system down....
The fish will be alright with no running water.
*fingers crossed*

They apparently have someone coming down to look at it tomorrow.
But if parts need to be ordered in... :S Last time it took like a week or two for a new pump to arrive.
And that was when just one was down.
....
I really hope that they arrive faster this time around....
Or there's a good temp fix that we can use in the meantime.
Because letting the water just sit for a week or two...is not going to bode well. :S

Here's to seeing how things look in the morning. :S

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Hold on a Sec

There are times when it really bugs me to be late to things.
Like. I get stressed out if I end up being late when I planned to be on time or even early.

Which makes going to church with the roomies hard.
^^;;
As they aren't always ready to leave when I'm ready to leave.

And on days when I'm more antsy about being on time, I usually end up driving separately.
Because being late...bothers me. Especially if I had planned to be on time.

Today was one of those days...where...I wasn't quite bothered.
I hadn't gotten enough sleep, so when my alarm went off to get ready for church.
I seriously debated about rolling over and going back to bed.
Because 830 church is way difficult to get to. I don't even know why that time exists as a 'start' time for church. *shakes head*

In any case.
I managed to get ready and be ready to leave with plenty of time to get to church on time.
The roomies? Not so much.
lol waking up early is hard. lol.

And the time was clicking away.
So like I usually do I was like "Okay, I think I'm going to head out" cus I usually do that. Leave before them.

Only when I opened the garage door to leave....
I saw the snow on the ground.
More had fallen overnight.
Leaving the cars out there covered in snow.

And I hesitated.
My car was fine, having been in the garage.
The others...not so much.
I mean, one's car was dead...so that was an out.
The other's covered in snow...meaning more work....
And mine...fine.

It didn't feel right to leave....
So I didn't.
I went back inside to wait for my roomies to finish getting ready.
Figuring that if we ended up missing sacrament in church, then we could just wait for a different ward's sacrament to start and take it there.

So for once, I wasn't feeling stressed out about being late.
Which is rare for sure.

But being more relaxed...it made the drive to church more enjoyable with the roomies. Laughing and chatting and such.
And thankfully, we got to church...late...but just as the opening hymn was finishing. so like...we didn't have to stress about that either. So yay!! :)

Yay for a potentially bad morning ending up being a really good morning. ^^;;

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

The Receipt Saga

Okay. I get the problem.
Where you can set something down or put something somewhere and think "I won't forget where this is." Only for like not even two minutes later for you to be wondering where you put the thing. It's even worse when you put something down without realizing you put it down because you were distracted and then can't remember what you actually did with it.

I get it.
It happens.

But that still doesn't mean it isn't extremely frustrating to deal with at work.
Like the time a customer came up to me saying that he'd set down a bag of goldfish somewhere and couldn't find it. That was a 'fun' search of the store to try and get to the fish before they died. -Luckily we found them.

Today...
I had a woman bring in some dead fish and her receipt.
Not a big deal. Happens all the time. (unfortunately)
However, the first problem with this customer was that the receipt she had given me was one day over our guarantee...but only had like half of the dead fish listed on it.
"Are you sure?" She said. "I swear the other two were on it."
"Yah. You have a platy a pleco and two tetras listed here...but not the betta or the molly you bought. Is there another receipt?"
To which she was like "Yah! I know I had it! I thought I gave them both to you!"
Cue her digging through her humongous purse to pull out a large wallet that is stuffed full of receipts.

Which....Why? Why so many receipts? Why do you need to keep Walmart receipts? I still have never fully comprehended it.
In any case like five or six minutes into searching her purse and finding nothing I was like. "Okay I can go find an Ipad and search for it there."
-As we can look up receipts if you used your membership at the register -aka your phone number-
So I walk away, get around the corner before I hear the woman calling for me.
So I come back and she'd finally found the other receipt.
But guess what?
That receipt is over the 14 days by like another week.
So technically I could have said "Sorry I can't return your fish" because if it's over the guarantee I can do that.
But I'd just spent 10 minutes with this woman as she dug through her huge purse to find it. And I was feeling generous like....I didn't want to waste both of our time.
So I was like "This is over our guarantee but I'll make an exception this time." And so I marked up both receipts handed them to her directly saying "You'll need these at the register so keep them handy." or something along those lines.
And me being the helpful me that I am, I grabbed another receipt she'd pulled out and said "I'm putting this one in your bag because you don't need it." and proceeded to place it in her bag before adding. "I'm going to take care of the dead fish, just let me know when you're ready for me to get you more."
Because she'd decided that she wanted to get replacement fish, but hadn't decided on what to get.
I proceeded to do other tasks, namely catching myself some fish for me to buy because I had no other customers needing help at that moment and I was off soon. And I was like, might as well catch my own fish while waiting for this customer to pick.

But I ended up going to clock out before she'd decided. So my coworker ended up helping her.

And I'd come back to the fish wall. Now wearing a coat over my uniform, with my hair down to disguise the fact that I worked here so people wouldn't ask me for help.
I'd already bagged up my fish, but I was debating about whether or not to buy some female bettas to put into my 125 as well.
So while I was looking at all the colors.
I overheard my coworker talking to the woman. -as I had informed my coworker before I left to clock out that the woman had returned dead fish, I'd marked the receipts, and she just needed replacements when she was ready.
My coworker was like: And my coworker marked your receipts correct?
The customer responded with: "Yah, she took them up to the register for me."

*record scratch*
I did what now?
No I didn't!
So I responded with just that. "No I didn't. I handed them to you!"
No surprise that the woman looked at me a bit confused -not in obvious uniform anymore- like 'who are you?'
She got it quickly enough though.
"You said you were taking them up to register one." she told me. "You just gave me this receipt, but you held onto the other two." She held up the receipt that I. ME. I. had put into her bag AFTER I'd handed her her other receipts.
"No, I gave you your receipts, but that one in your bag, and then I took your dead fish away. I never went up to the register. You have the receipts."
"Nu-uh. You held onto them. You took them to the register."
"Ma'am" I said shaking my head. "I never went up to the register for you, I just took your dead fish, but I didn't take them up to the register, but I can double check I didn't put your receipts with the dead fish."
Because geez this woman was confident that I had kept her receipts even though I had known I hadn't. I don't hold onto pieces of paper without reason. I make sure to give receipts back because guess what? The customer needs them at the register. *shakes head*
Still I checked. But yep. No paper with the dead fish.
"Have you checked your pockets?" I asked the woman when I returned.
She was like "It would be IN my Purse!"
And I was like "Did you check your pockets?"
and she did the typical 'pat the pockets, stuff her fists in for like half a second and pull them out and go' "Nope not in there!"
"I'm sure I heard paper rustling in there, check again." was my response. Because I would not be proven wrong. They had to be in her pockets.
"That was just my keys." the woman shot back.
Didn't sound like keys to me but whatever.

^^;; About this point my coworker was like "How about we just go look up the receipts at the register" And took the customer and her fish up to register 3 to have the cashier there look up the receipts.

At this point I was irritated and frustrated and not at all in the mood to try and pick out betta fish anymore.
So I too grabbed my fish and went up to the registers.
And I saw my coworker marking a receipt so I was like "You found them?"
"Yep!' was her response.
"Cool. It was these four fish that she brought back dead." I told her listing off the fish because my coworker wouldn't know which ones I had marked returned.

And it was weird, because the customer, instead of standing by my coworker in the lane where she could then return the dead fish and buy the new fish...she was standing in the next lane over, hovering over the cashiers shoulder, watching my coworker mark the receipts.
O.o
Such a weird place to decide to stand.

However, there was a problem with one of the receipts. In that my coworker had printed off a wrong one. So the last two fish weren't on either receipt.
But before we could look up that last receipt.
The customer suddenly moves, leans over, and puts two receipts on the counter.
The missing ones.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I KNEW IT!!!

I looked at her and was like "See! I told you you had them!"
Like literally I said something like that...which probably wasn't the best way to go about that, but like I KNEW IT. I KNEW IT. She HAD them and they were probably IN HER POCKET like I TOLD HER THEY WERE. and AGGGGHHHHHHH

But I was like "great you have the receipts. You can come around" -since she was still standing BEHIND the cashier- "and the cashier can help you out." Because the fish were already at the register and so were the receipts.
So problem solved. Customer helped.
Therefore, I, still holding my own two bags of fish, went back to register one to be helped up there.
Only I glanced over and saw the customer right next to me. To which I was like "Your fish are on register 3" where she'd just been standing.
She was like "But you're holding my fish!"
*deep breaths* These are MY fish. Your fish are on register 3.
Like why would I take your fish lady? I'm not ON THE CLOCK anymore. *shakes head*
She was like "Oh." and went back to register 3.

Gah.
Just GAH.
Such a trial customer to go through.
Like how? I don't get it? How could you not realize you had the receipts the entire time? How could you not see that your fish were still on the register and not with me?

*shakes head*
Like I said...I get that people set things down without thinking about it or realizing it. So I get it.
I also get that customers don't always bring their glasses with them (which is still so weird) so that they can see things clearly.

But this...was just a weird and frustrating interaction overall.

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!
