Fish Crazed

Guys....
I really really want a fish tank.

An actual fish tank where I can have more than one fish swimming around in the waters.

You have no idea how close I came to buying just a smaller fish tank to set on an empty table in our kitchen, let alone wanting to buy that 125 gallon tank and set it along a nice big empty stretch of kitchen wall that has no other purpose save for that.

It's only the fact that my current apartment complex is against pets or fish tanks larger than a betta bowl that has kept me from making the leap. I do not want to be kicked out after all.

Yet it is so tempting.
Just to think about.

This week I've again been playing with different ideas on what fish I'd like in my fish tank,
And I've nearly come to the conclusion that I will need two giant ones. (Don't worry I haven't gone that far into la la land) One for goldfish so I can pick out all the fancy looking ones (comets and otherwise) and fill up that tank with patterns, and the other, of course for all the tropical fish I'd like to have.

Yes, such a dream I have. To finally see all the fish swimming together in one tank instead of in the store separated into multiple smaller ones.

For now though, it will have to remain a dream, one that I want to become a reality sooner rather than later.

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

The Dream

Our house was going to be set on fire, so my parents and family were hurriedly packing up the items we couldn't live without. Only there was a catch. We were going on a cruise, and everything we wanted to take had to fit into a single large suitcase. The rest would be destroyed. I struggled a bit as I had trouble deciding which stuffed animals I wanted to take with me as I had many, but I knew I could only save a few. Not to mention that I needed to pack clothes for the cruise, and other items beyond the stuffed animals, but I couldn't tear myself away from them, frantically trying to decide which ones I wanted to save and which ones could perish as I could get others in the future. Only when I realized that I had moved out and that most of my stuff was at my apartment did I relax and

have the unholy tones of daylight pull me away...
and I became myself again. :)

Smoldering

It seems like nearly every street I drive on in CollegeTown, I see lots under construction.
Construction of Apartment Buildings.
At least that's what it looks like.
What I hope it actually is.

Because I'm looking for a new place to move into once my current contract is up.

And what better place to move into than a new place that was just built!
Of course...said place has to be finished first....

I am hopeful that most of them will be completed when I have to leave my current place.
I'm also hopeful that one will be affordable to me. >.< As I already know of a few that are too pricy. *sighs*

But there is one apartment complex, that I do not think will be in my reach any time soon.

Why?

Because it was burnt down the other day. :(

It's thought to be arson,
A coworker told me she heard that there's some guy running around college town setting buildings, owned by a certain company he has a grudge against, on fire.
And this apartment complex I was looking forward to checking out....was one of them. :(

It was rather depressing to have driven by only a day or so before to see the strong framework rising from the ground,
only to come by the next and have only a single discolored concrete tower with blackened charred remains of wood piled up all around it.

All that hard work, months of construction, millions of dollars spent... for it to disappear in a matter of hours.
Due to a grudge by an individual.
*sighs*

I don't know if they plan to rebuild. I would assume so. Even with all the money gone... (maybe they had insurance?)

Still, it saddens me to know that there are people out there who set out to make others suffer because they are suffering themselves.
Hopefully they catch this perpetrator soon.

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

To Play The Violin

A story written by Karen Nolen, which appeared in the New Era in 1974, tells of a Benjamin Landart who, in 1888, was 15 years old and an accomplished violinist.
Living on a farm in northern Utah with his mother and seven brothers and sisters was sometimes a challenge to Benjamin, as he had less time than he would have liked to play his violin.
Occasionally his mother would lock up the violin until he had his farm chores done, so great was the temptation for Benjamin to play it.

In late 1892 Benjamin was asked to travel to Salt Lake to audition for a place with the territorial orchestra.
For him, this was a dream come true.
After several weeks of practicing and prayers, he went to Salt Lake in March of 1893 for the much anticipated audition.
When he heard Benjamin play, the conductor, a Mr. Dean, told Benjamin he was the most accomplished violinist he had heard west of Denver.
He was told to report to Denver for rehearsals in the fall and learned that he would be earning enough to keep himself, with some left over to send home.

A week after Benjamin received the good news, however, his bishop called him into his office and asked if he couldn't put off playing with the orchestra for a couple of years.
He told Benjamin that before he started earning money there was something he owed the Lord.
He then asked Benjamin to accept a mission call.

Benjamin felt that giving up his chance to play in the territorial orchestra would be almost more than he could bear, but he also knew what his decision should be.
He promised the bishop that if there were any way to raise the money for him to serve, he would accept the call.

When Benjamin told his mother about the call, she was overjoyed.
She told him that his father had always wanted to serve a mission but had been killed before that opportunity had come to him.
However, when they discussed the financing of the mission, her face clouded over.
Benjamin told her he would not allow her to sell any more of their land.
She studied his face for a moment and then said, "Ben, there is a way we can raise the money. This family [has] one thing that is of great enough value to send you on your mission.
You will have to sell your violin."

Ten days later, on March 23, 1893, Benjamin wrote in his journal: "I awoke this morning and took my violin from its case.
All day long I played the music I love.
In the evening when the light grew dim and I could see to play no longer, I placed the instrument in its case.
It will be enough.
Tomorrow I leave [for my mission]."

Forty-five years later, on June 23, 1938, Benjamin wrote in his journal: "The greatest decision I ever made in my life was to give up something I dearly loved to the God I loved even more.
He has never forgotten me for it."

A Day In Review - February 4th

Saturday, February 4th, 2006

-Today was my first time driving a car. It was a pretty good experience for me, even though my dad freaked me out everytime he grabbed the wheel to stop us from crashing. Luckily I stepped on the brake or we have crashed for sure. I only drove for about 15 minutes in my dad's truck, but already I knew I needed more practice as I would end up focusing on things that I shouldn't -like a cat crossing the road- instead of driving and noticing other people on the road. I also had the tendency to move over to the right whenever a car would approach me from the opposite direction. Apparently I didn't want any chance whatsoever of being hit. I figured I'd try a different car the next time, but I found the first experience very exhilarating. I couldn't keep the smile off my face being behind the wheel.

First Week of February 2008

- I was asked out on a double date with Tayclu with his friend Branmar. I said yes, we went to dinner at applebees and watched The Three Musketeers at Branmar's date's place. I had a great time. :)

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

- Through a series of events most of my college classes ended up getting canceled today. My first class was ASL and the teacher was taking two days to do tests and I'd already the test the first day (Monday) so I didn't have to come in today. Then my Anthropology classed was cancelled, I only found out when I arrived at the room. I didn't have an English class today, instead I was to meet up with my English Teacher in his office at 10:20 (easiest English class ever...we only met like..once a week it seemed like, the rest of the time it kept getting cancelled.) because he wanted to meet with the students one on one about their research projects. (I hate research projects, when I'm not given direction on what to research.) Then my history class was cancelled because the teacher's leg wasn't healing properly from her cat bite...so she had to go into surgery and will be out the rest of the week. O.o. So I ended up going to the language lab to do some ASL homework (and slipped on ice myself hurting my ankle again.) I met up with my roommate Ali a couple of times before my English meeting, afterwards for lunch and again about dinner time. I got a card in the mail from AT and UB today wishing me a Happy Valentine's Day. ^^ Then in the evening I caught a ride with Ali and Brad as they went to Institute so that I could go see the play NOSFERATU which is based off an old black and white movie about a vampire. It was a totally awesome play! They had the stage set up like an actual movie production so that we could see how they created all the scenes. They had the scenes below, then the cameras actually working to show you on a screen above what was actually being filmed. It was awesome to watch! I totally want to watch it again. (I still do...haven't yet, but still do.) I loved it. ^^ I met up with Ali and Brad afterwards and we dropped by Walmart for food shopping before going back to our apartment.

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

-I slept with my window open last night to cool me down and I woke up feeling much better. I think I may have the same thing as my brother where if I get too hot...I wake up. ( he ends up sleep walking.) I went to my Institute classes and ended up playing "Now Let Us Rejoice" for the first two classes. I also got a cookie, and once I got home I cleaned a bit of my room without being prompted. (call me crazy...I never do that. O.o) I went back to the school later on to watch 'Koyaanusagati' I think is how it's spelt for my sociology class. It was a mesmerizing movie lots of passing traffic and passage of time sort of scenarios. Also wrote a letter to my cousin Justin who was serving a mission in California at the time.

Friday, February 4th, 2011

-It wasn't a good school day for me, as I had to wake up early to do homework I'd forgotten to do, I had to take an Anatomy quiz and pay the testing center $3 to do so. (first time I had to take it on the late day) and found out that I had forgotten another assignment due as well. I met up with friends for the Friday Devotional before doing Publicity stuff and more school. At 7pm Dan picked me up for a date...only he'd left his car at a restaurant he'd eaten at earlier in the day with family and forgotten that he'd left it there until we were walking out to the parking lot to find his car. So we ended up walking up to the place (it was a mile or so up the road) before we went to Comedy Sportz which I thoroughly enjoyed. It's an improv show and was entertaining. :) We returned to his apartment to watch Gattaca. O.o interesting movie. And Dan and I finally established that we were dating which has me halfway excited and halfway panicking...

Saturday, February 4th, 2012

-I was woken up when my dad's friend Brian came over to go out to lunch with my dad. My Mom, Kikay and I ended up going to Michael's to pick out some fabric and thread that my mom needed to complete a cross stitch picture of Kandi and Biscuit (AT & UB's puppydogs) I did homework and worked on the Forest Story with my friend Jessva before Tercol came to pick me up for a date. We went and saw the play Noises Off. It actually was a really good play, entertaining and funny. :)

Monday, February 4th, 2013

- I went and saw the Movie Warm Bodies with my roommate Kahla. It was a good movie, not something I need to obsess over like Rise of the Guardians, but definitely an enjoyable movie. :) I read and wrote for most of the day before going Rock Climbing at The Quarry for FHE with our ward. Kikay and I survived belaying for each other and we had a ton of fun! :) We went with Kahla to Kneaders afterwards and I had to go to bed early this night for a 4 am wake up call. :S (not fun -meant that this was a time when shifts would start at 5 am in my department.)

Tuesday, February 4th, 2014

- I met a new coworker today at work. A stocker by the name of Tanner. (interesting note is that his last day was like a couple of weeks ago...he could have been here a year had he waited just a little longer...) I didn't get a chance to talk much with him as I was busy doing my own morning tasks. Later in the day I had a chance to talk to an old coworker Bri when she came in to grab food for her own animals. I spent a lot of the day reorganizing our freezer that holds frozen food for fish and snakes so that it was set to the picture plan they wanted it to be. I had an institute class, which I loved, and our ceiling in our apt nearly collapsed on us this night. Not really. But the people were having such a raucous dance party that the ceiling was literally moving up and down. :S scary!!

Wednesday, February 4th, 2015

-I came into work only an hour before our store opened, with my fellow opener only coming in half an hour before me, which needless to say....did not give us much time at all to get everything done that needed to be done before the store opened. It took me 2ish hours just to clean the cages and another half an hour or so for my coworker to put back everything that goes into the cage. And then...she left too soon having a short shift, leaving me by myself to try and complete other tasks...which became harder as there was a lunch rush of customers that kept me from finishing the last few tasks until right before my shift ended. :S So busy! Afterwards I met up with Jessva in college town for dinner which was wonderful. ^^ I love it when my friends visit me instead of me visiting them. It makes for a nice change. :)

I'll be watching the leaves.

The Dream

I was at a party, held in a friend's big backyard. It seemed like a party that was a cross of Relief Society and Popular girls. With one 'queen bee' lamenting the fact that she hadn't been asked to design this particular party (because her party designs create the most boring of atmospheres.) while another had done such a good job. It seemed to be a cordial affair, with young men there as well. There were odd statues, basically of precariously stacked dishes of different colors, I happened to notice that a group of the guys were playing with a football, and I saw that they had the intention to throw it at one of the piles of dishes to destroy the statue, so I moved quickly to that statue reaching up for the top dish to keep them from throwing it. Which worked, only....I ended up toppling the statue myself, sending dishes to shatter to the ground along with various food as well. I quickly dropped to pick them up, while the head boy somehow got on my nerves from his words. I basically snapped and threw the whole mess at him, including my shoes which he had managed to break both of them. People stared at me in askance at how over the top I was being, and warned me that this would ruin their view of me, and strain relationships, but I was too far gone in anger and frustration to care. The boy was singularly unimpressed as my attempts to hit him and slap him with the shoes were feeble at best, so I threw them at him and stalked off...

to have the unholy tones of daylight pull me away....
and I became myself again. :)

Sticky Rescue

We lost a snake.
How?
It escaped.
Slithered through a hole that had been unintentionally made at some point, most likely while cleaning the cage.
Gone.
For good.

So I thought.

I mean, we have a huge store, lots of nooks and crannies to hide in.
Lots of cracks to escape into the outdoors... (though less likely to happen in winter.)

In any case.
We had made plans to see if we could lure the snake back to us....
But due to business, we hadn't yet gotten around to it.

When, I got a call from one of my managers to come to the office.

Where he handed me a flat piece of paper.
One side sticky.
It was one of our vermin traps -that mostly catch loose crickets-
And stuck amongst all those crickets?

Was the snake.
The one we'd lost.
()_()
At first I thought it was dead.
It looked all flattened and squished.
But then I touched it, and the snake wiggled as much as it could under my touch.
He was flattened because his scales had stuck to the paper as he probably twisted to try and escape.

The guy who came to check the traps had found the snake, and had come to the manager to inform him of what he'd found.

If it were me, I would have assumed that the snake had died and left it at that.
But for some reason, my manager (who I wouldn't think would do such a thing) decided to inquire further. "What did it look like? Where is it now? Is it dead?"
As he had the suspicion, that if a snake was caught here...it had to be one of ours.

I mean....I don't think we've yet found a snake in the traps that wasn't ours....
(its also not often that we find snakes in the traps anyways...they don't get loose that often.)

The guy described the snake, explained that he'd thrown it away, and no...it was still ALIVE!
()_()
Why would you toss out a snake that was still alive?!?!!?

-of course...being in the pest business....it probably doesn't matter if it is still alive, it's caught, it's not going anywhere, and needs to be removed.

But really...in a petstore...you'd probably at least show the manager first before tossing it!

So the guy went back to the garbage and dug him out and gave him to my manager.
Which is where I came in.

My manager wanted to know if there was a way for us to get the snake unstuck from the trap.

Not by ourselves there wasn't.
Yet, I knew that we had freed other creatures (if you remember our leopard gecko that ran around the store for a year...) from these traps before.
It just involved....going to our vet.

I didn't know if he'd be able to help, as I remembered distinctly that he doesn't like dealing with reptiles...
But he'd freed our Gecko.
So I could only hope that he would be able to free our snake as well.

I ended up creating quite a stir in their portion of the store lol. Everyone wanted to see the snake stuck to the trap, wanted to help.
Which luckily, they could help. ^^

The vet took some mineral oil and a Q-tip, and started at the back of the snake ...
-leaving the head for last so that he wouldn't get bitten. lol (good plan...who knows how stressed he was. He definitely was cold from being stuck to the trap on cold concrete floors for a few days...)
...he squirted some of the oil next to the snake, and used it to detackify the trap enough to get the snake unstuck from it.

Slowly but surely, the snake was freed from the trap.
I ended up holding the snake as he was freed just to keep him from getting stuck on other parts of the trap.

And then.
He was free!
In my hands!
Free!

And looking none the worst for wear thankfully. ^^
Still I took him straight to the back to give a nice warm soak before placing him back in his home as he appeared to be fine enough, just needed a nice cozy spot to stay warm in. :)

As he'd only been missing for a week, and then, able to hunt crickets to his hearts content...so he still seems to be in fine health.

Yay for the rescue!! ^^
I'm glad we found him before it was too late. :)

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

April 2003 General Conference Sunday Afternoon

Boyd K Packer - The Golden Years
  • "With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding."
  • Like many of us, he concentrated so much on what people do that he overlooked what they are, a priceless resource of experience, wisdom, and inspiration.
  • We must teach our youth to draw close to the elderly grandpas and grandmas.
  • Young women: Do not be so very foolish as to miss this association with the older sisters. They will bring more worth into your life than much of the activity you enjoy so much.
  • Do you realize that some problems you worry about so much with the youth, and with others, could be solved if they would stay close to their fathers and mothers and to their grandparents, to the older folks?
  • "The way to get along in any important matter is to gather unto yourselves wise men [and women], experienced and aged men [and women], to assist in council in all times of trouble."
  • Value the old folks for what they are, not just what they can do.
  • Have you ever wondered why the Lord organized the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles so that the senior leadership of the Church will always be older men? This pattern of seniority values wisdom and experience over youth and physical vigor.
  • An adopted grandma can be found in Relief Society. And a grandpa will be found in the quorums of the priesthood. But all of the grandpas and grandmas are not in the Church.
  • We cannot do what we once did, but we have become more than ever we were before. Life's lessons, some of them very painful, qualify us to counsel, to correct, and even to warn our youth.
  • In your golden years there is so much to do and so much to be. Do not withdraw into a retirement from life, into amusement. That, for some, would be useless, even selfish. You may have served a mission and been released and consider yourself as having completed your service in the Church, but you are never released from being active in the gospel. "If," the Lord said, "ye have desires to serve God ye are called to the work."
Jeffrey R. Holland -A Prayer for the Children
  • No child in this Church should be left with uncertainty about his or her parents' devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ, the Restoration of His Church, and the reality of living prophets and apostles.
  • Prophets do not apologize for requesting unity, indeed conformity.
  • Parents simply cannot flirt with skepticism or cynicism, then be surprised when their children expand that flirtation into full-blown romance. If in matters of faith and belief children are at risk of being swept downstream by this intellectual current or that cultural rapid, we as their parents must be more certain than ever to hold to anchored, unmistakable moorings clearly recognizable to those of our own household. It won't help anyone if we go over the edge with them, explaining through the roar of the falls all the way down  that we really did know the Church was true and that the keys of the priesthood really were lodged there but we just didn't want to stifle anyone's freedom to think otherwise. No, we can hardly expect the children to get to shore safely if the parents don't seem to know where to anchor their own boat.
  • Some parents may not understand that even when they feel secure in their own minds regarding matters of personal testimony, they can nevertheless make that faith too difficult for their children to detect.
  • "Sometimes some parents mistakenly feel that they can relax a little as to conduct and conformity or take perhaps a so called liberal view of basic and fundamental things--thinking that a little laxness or indulgence won't matter--or they may fail to teach or to attend Church, or may voice critical views. Some parents ... seem to feel that they can ease up a little on the fundamentals without affecting their family or their family's future. But, " he observed, "if a parent goes a little off course, the children are likely to exceed the parent's example."
  • To lead a child (or anyone else!), even  inadvertently, away from faithfulness, away from loyalty and bedrock belief simply because we want to be clever or independent is license no parent nor any other person has ever been given.
  • Don't just assume your children will somehow get the drift of your beliefs on their own.
  • "A baby is God's opinion that life should go on."
Spencer V. Jones -Overcoming the Stench of Sin
  • Every decision we make, good or bad, carries an accompanying consequence.
  • At times, consequences of sin may appear to be very subtle to the sinner.
  • "Their countenance doth witness against them, and doth declare their sin to be even as Sodom, and they cannot hide it."
  • Each one of us has the Light of Christ, or a conscience. It constantly prompts us to choose good. Good choices yield good consequences. On the other hand, delaying repentance and continuing to commit sin is like continuing to kick the skunk. The stench will become stronger with each sin, alienating us further and further from God and those we love. Soon we could become like Laman and Lemuel, who, after continually making bad choices, became "past feeling" and could no longer feel the still small voice.
  • If the Spirit is pricking your heart to correct something in your life, know this: your soul is precious. Heavenly Father wants you to be part of His eternal family.
D. Rex. Gerratt -Follow the Instructions
  • "If all else fails--Please! Follow instructions."
  • Every person experiences many challenges in this mortal life. Each has personal agency to make choices that affect his or her progress. Good choices bring promised blessings, and bad choices always bring undesired consequences.
  • None of us are perfect, and we all need help. But we are not left alone if we are teachable, with hearts to feel and ears to hear.
  • First, we must have a sincere desire.
  • Second, we must have faith.
  • "Be not afraid of your enemies for I have decreed in my heart ... that I will prove you in all things.
  • "Our safety lies in the virtue of our lives. Our strength lies in our righteousness. God has made it clear that if we will not forsake Him, He will not forsake us."
  • The Lord admonishes us to search the scriptures and to follow the commandments.
  • He has promised that all His words shall be fulfilled, "whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same."
  • The Lord declared that "whatsoever they shall speak when moved upon by the Holy Ghost shall be scripture, shall be the will of the Lord, shall be the mind of the Lord, shall be the word of the Lord, shall be the voice of the Lord, and the power of God unto salvation."
F. Burton Howard -Eternal Marriage
  • Far too many marriages today end in divorce. Selfishness, sin, and personal convenience often prevail over covenants and commitment.
  • First, an eternal marriage is eternal.
  • It means that the marriage relationship is not to be frivolously discarded at the first sign of disagreement or when times get hard. It signifies that love will grow stronger with time and that it extends beyond the grave. It means that each partner will be blessed with the company of the other partner forever and that problems and differences might as well be resolved because they are not going to go away.
  • Second, an eternal marriage is ordained of God.
  • Third, eternal marriage is a kind of partnership with God.
  • If you want something to last forever, you treat it differently. You should shield it and protect it. You never abuse it. You don't expose it to the elements. You don't make it common or ordinary. If it ever becomes tarnished, you lovingly polish it until it gleams like new. It becomes special because you have made it so, and it grows more beautiful and precious as time goes by.
Dallin H. Oaks -Give Thanks in All Things
  • Commandments. They are directions away from pitfalls, and they are invitations to blessings. Commandments mark the path and show us the way to happiness in this life and eternal life in the world to come.
  • As someone has said, there is a big difference between 20 years' experience and 1 year's experience repeated 20 times. If we understand the Lord's teachings and promises, we will learn and grow from our adversities.
  • "We have learned many things through suffering. We call it suffering. I call it a school of experience. ... I have never looked at these things in any other light than trials for the purpose of purifying the Saints of God that they may be, as the scriptures say, as gold that has been seven times purified by the fire."
  • We should thank God for our adversities and pray for guidance in meeting them. Through the attitude and through our faith and obedience, we will realize the promises God has given us.
  • Let us give thanks for what we are and for the circumstances God has given us for our personal journey through mortality.
  • I also know that strength is forged in adversity and that faith is developed in a setting where we cannot see ahead.
Benediction -Gordon B. Hinckley
  • Seek to live closer to the Lord and to commune with Him more frequently and with increased faith.
  • Fathers and mothers, pray over your children. Pray that they may be shielded from the evils of the world. Pray that they may grow in faith and knowledge. Pray that they may be directed toward lives that will be profitable and good. Husbands, pray for your wives. Express unto the Lord your gratitude for them and plead with Him in their behalf. Wives, pray for your husbands. Many of them walk a very difficult road with countless problems and great perplexities. Plead with the Almighty that they may be guided, blessed, protected, inspired in their righteous endeavors.
  • Pray for wisdom and understanding as you walk the difficult paths of your lives. If you are determined to do foolish and imprudent things, I think the Lord will not prevent you. But if you seek His wisdom and follow the counsel of the impressions that come to you, I am confident that you will be blessed.

General YW Meeting

Susan W. Tanner -Steadfast in Our Covenants
  • "Ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men."
  • The Lord has promised us that He will not forget us because He has "graven [us] upon the palms of [His] hands." And our promise to Him is that we will not forget Him, for we have engraven Him in our hearts.
  • You should speak a little softer, act a little kinder, serve your siblings more selflessly, and appreciate and help your parents more openly.
  • Sometimes it is hardest in our own homes to be our best selves. It requires that diligent effort of "pressing forward."
Julie B. Beck -There Is Hope Smiling Brightly before Us
  • Every time you worthily partake of the sacrament, you have the opportunity to begin again and do a little better. It is like burying the old, unworthy part of yourself and starting over with a new life.
  • Because of the Christ there is hope smiling brightly before you, and you need not worry too much about sickness, death, poverty, or other afflictions. The Lord will take care of you. Your responsibility is to keep the commandments, feast upon the words of Christ, and stay in the path to your heavenly home.
  • "Welcome the task that makes you go beyond yourself, and you will grow."
Elaine S. Dalton -Press Forward and Be Steadfast
  • The Savior will help you see and understand the vision He has for you. You are His beloved daughters. He knows you personally and has a plan for your life. He has promised that as you live worthily, His Spirit will always be with you.
  • "Pressing forward" implies resistance. The scripture doesn't say walk forward, or move forward, or simply proceed forward. It says to press forward!
  • Your vision of your future will help you press forward.
  • "Moroni was a strong and a mighty man; he was a man of a perfect understanding. ... Yea, and he was a man who was firm in the faith of Christ."
  • "I want to marry a man like Moroni."
  • There may be some steep hills ahead, but our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, has promised to climb with you every step of the way. There has never been a more important time to press forward and be steadfast.
  • "Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ. having a perfect brightness of hope. ... Wherefore, it ye shall press forward, ... and endure to the end, ... thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life."
James E. Faust -The Virtues of Righteous Daughters of God
  • "Virtue is the chiefest beauty of the mind, the noblest ornament of humankind. Virtue is our safeguard and our guiding star that stirs up reason when our sense err."
  • May I suggest 10 virtues that each of you can pursue in your quest for excellence and happiness.
    • 1. Faith
  • In exercising faith, we become cheerful and optimistic, charitable and courageous because faith is the moving cause of all of these virtues.
    • 2. Honesty
  • You cannot be honest with others unless you are honest with yourself.
    • 3. Chastity
  • "Always remember that you can go much further on respect than on popularity."
    • 4. Humility
  • "Learn to say, 'I don't know.' If used when appropriate, it will be often."
    • 5. Self-Discipline
  • Habits of self-discipline formed while you are young will become part of the makeup of your character for the rest of your lives. The character thus formed from self-discipline will rise with you in the Resurrection.
  • The principle of work is part of self-discipline. Now, my dear young sisters, I have lived a good many years longer than you, but even back in Grandpa's time there was something to make you want to lie down and go to sleep--they called it work.
    • 6. Fairness
  • We need to be fair and compassionate in our dealings with other human beings.
  • If you will be fair to other people, they will more likely be fair to you.
    • 7. Moderation
  • It is well to avoid extremes in dress, hairstyles, makeup, conduct, speech, and music. Extremes may attract the attention of some, but they are more likely to turn off those you really want to impress.
    • 8. Cleanliness
  • "Be clean in dress and manner. ... The age in which we are living now has become an age of sloppy dress and sloppy manners. But I am not so concerned about what you wear as I am that it be clean. ... Be sure of your personal cleanliness."
    • 9. Courage.
  • Fear not, I am thee; oh be not dismayed, For I am thy God and will still give thee aid. I'll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand, ... Upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.
    • Grace
  • One woman can make a great difference for a whole nation.
  • It may be that your most significant everlasting achievements will be your righteous influence on others, that your divine feminine inner beauty and intuition will find expression in your quiet strength, gentleness, dignity, charm, graciousness, creativity, sensitivity, radiance, and spirituality. Enhance these sublime feminine gifts. They will make you appealing and even irresistible as you serve others as the handmaidens of God.

Special Satellite Broadcast for Children

Gayle M. Clegg -The Light of His Love
  • I pray that all children may feel and cherish the love of our Heavenly Father.
Sydney S. Reynolds -I Can Pray to Heavenly Father Anytime, Anywhere
  • I know that I can pray to Heavenly Father anytime, anywhere. I know He hears me.
Coleen K. Menlove -Show You Know
  • I want to talk about another way we show we know--by keeping the commandments.
  • Each day we are given opportunities to show we know how to be like Jesus and follow Him in faith.
  • Every time you keep the Sabbath day holy, you show you know.
  • Show you know by obeying the Word of Wisdom.
  • We respect our bodies by dressing modestly. We show we know how to keep the commandments and follow the Savior.
  • We show we know by living the commandment to love one another.
  • "There is a mighty strength that comes of the knowledge that you and I are sons and daughters of God. ... One who has this knowledge and permits it to influence his [or her] life will not stoop to do a mean or cheep ... thing."
  • The Savior taught us to love and do good to one another--even those who have different standards. These differences are no excuse for avoiding others or being unkind.
  • We show we know how to follow the Savior when we treat others with kindness and respect.
Gordon B. Hinckley -You Are a Child of God
  • I hope that every night and every morning you get on your knees and speak with your Father in Heaven.
  • I hope you will remember the missionaries of the Church as you pray.
  • If you really know that you are a child of God, you will also know that He expects much of you, His child. He will expect you to follow His teachings and the teachings of His dear Son, Jesus. He will expect you to be generous and kind to others. He will be offended if you swear or use foul language. He will be offended if you are dishonest in any way, if you should cheat or steal in the slightest. He will be happy if you remember the less fortunate in your prayers to Him. He will watch over you and guide you and protect you. He will bless you in your schoolwork and in your Primary. He will bless you in your home, and you will be a better boy or girl, obedient to your parents, quarreling less with your brothers and sisters, helping about the home.
  • And thus you will grow to be a strong young man or woman in this Church. You will also be a better member of the community.
  • Every man or woman who ever walked the earth, even the Lord Jesus, was once a boy or girl like you. They grew according to the pattern they followed. If that pattern was good, then they became good men and women.

No Longer Good

I noticed something interesting about myself.
In relation to food.

Though I suppose how I relate to food in general is interesting, picky eater that I am.

But in any case.
I've come to realize over the past week.

That at some point.
I decided subconsciously
That something isn't edible anymore.

I mean, I could eat it everyday before that point.
But at some point.
I'll just stop eating it.

Most of the time I think it's because I just get too busy with work and sleep and...well more of those two, that I don't have much time to eat, and I don't always want to snack on the same thing.
So it sits there.
Ignored.

Out of necessity at first.
But then...
Because some switch on my brain went off and was like "Uhoh! It's been three days since Sarnic's touched this, The food is now BAD DO NOT EAT!"

Literally.
It's how I feel.
I'll stare at something in the fridge, like some raspberries, or look at something on the counter, like bread....and think that it's no longer edible. Even when it still perfectly is.

*sighs*
lol. On retrospect, I suppose it's a good survival instinct to have.
To know when to no longer partake of certain foods.....

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!
