Meeting the Point

It takes a lot for me to approach people I admire.
You know, those famous people, authors, artists, singers, actors.

It's hard to convince myself to approach them.
Even if they're letting other people approach them.
Like they're sitting at a table signing autographs.

Why?
Because I know they see so many fans already....
That I don't want to intrude on their time. Have them have to deal with another admirer. Have yet another person tell them they're amazing, that what they've done is wonderful, that they love all that they do.
They're probably really busy already, I don't want to intrude on their time.

And then....I'm rather shy already.
Most people don't think that of me.
But when I'm first brought into new situations.
I'm really quiet. I'm not one to approach others, especially when I really admire them, when I want our first meeting to go well...if I ever really talked to them at all.
I want the experience to go well.
I don't want to just feel like an unwanted pest. Someone to tolerate.

So for years, I've gone to Vocal Point concerts.
yet, I've never had the gumption to meet them. To stand in line after their concerts to say Hi.

Last night, that changed.

I went to the Vocal Point concert last night.
It was great, awesome. ^^

And afterwards, like always they went to a table to sign and talk to those who wished to do so.
Once again, I stared at them.
Trying to convince myself to stand in line....the chance was taken away from me as a friend I came with needed to go home.
As this time, I'd been trying to convince myself that this time. This time I would get in line.

But on the way home, I got a message.
That some people I'd been thinking I'd meet up with -friends that I'd only known online who'd come into town for the concert as well.- were actually there.
I wanted to meet them.
So after dropping off my friend I turned the car around and went back to the concert.
And found the people I sought. ^^

We talked for a bit and they asked if I'd met the guys yet.
I told them no. That I'm too shy to approach them and talk to them.

But they insisted that I be introduced. So they took me to the Director of Vocal Point.
Mckay Crockett.

Former member of Vocal Point, also member of Hudson Lights whose concert I went to last week.

And they were like "Hey! Mckay! Do you know who this is?!"
He gave me that look of 'I'm trying to place your face.' as he smiled big and wide and gave me a side hug and said "Of course I do!"
-Having never spoken to him before this point I had high doubts that he actually knew who I was.
And my online friends were like "This is one of the Super Blog Helpers from that TMTP Blog from a couple of years ago!"

lol they were really excited when I started to follow them on Twitter. I'm basically a connection to the past and the present is how they put it.
In any case.
I had an awesome talk with Mckay! And to my surprise. He actually knew who I was. He'd seen me on Social Media. He knew my name as Sarnic Dirchi!
He even knew that I'd gone to his Hudson Lights concert! And he had been so disappointed that I hadn't dropped by to say Hi afterwards. O.o

It was soo crazy.
And Mckay made it feel like I wasn't a burden, wasn't like the millionth person he'd talked to that day about the concerts. It was a good feeling, that he seemed to genuinely want to talk for a little bit.
 
And insisted himself that I go and talk to the members of Vocal Point, that they would be glad to talk to me.
Soo...I found myself in line, but I didn't want to appear without anything to sign, so I looked at the prices of things, thought I could get a poster, and asked the guy who was packing up the merchandise if I could quickly buy a poster.
And to my surprise, he just handed it to me and said "Take it. You've waited in line long enough."
O.o
Wow. ^^'' Free poster!! Woot!!
 
I got to talk to a couple of members of vocal point, my online friends again explaining who I was, before Mckay called out that it was picture time.
O.o Picture time?
He asked who had a camera.
And being the helper I was, I pulled out mine to use.
And he was like "Great! Go stand in front of them."
O.o Wait what?!
And before I knew it, I was standing with all of Vocal Point around me, smiling at my phone as Mckay took pictures of us all.
I got my picture with Vocal Point?!
 
Can I say that I was in heaven at that point? Because it sure felt like it. The guys had talked to me, I hadn't felt like a nuisance, I'd gotten a free poster, and it was all amazing!! ^^
 
I'm glad that my online friends were able to help me out and give me this positive and treasured memory. ^^

The Dream

I was at work, trying to get ready for holiday shopping at a Target type of store, making sure my department of clothes and such were all in order so my boss -a big dark skinned woman known for wanting everything to be perfect- wouldn't get mad at me. Then randomly there was a picture of my Grandma Retrun (Mom's mom) And my mom came up to me and told me to go look at the picture again and I did, and Grandma who'd been facing forward, was now facing a different direction. She'd moved! And when she realized we'd seen her move, she turned back to how she'd first been positioned, but then Mother Dearest touched her portrait like an ipad and she could manipulate the photo so Grandma would turn whichever direction she wanted and she could go full body or just her head in this. It was crazy....

Then the unholy tones of daylight pulled me away....
and I became myself again. :)

A Day In Review -March 6th

-My Mom had been in the hospital for a few weeks at this point. And she'd just been moved from one hospital to another to do some more tests to figure out what was going on with her lungs.
Young me wasn't into giving detail at this point, but it turns out that somehow fluid had gotten between the lungs and the lining that protects the lungs, and some of it had hardened. Mom had to have multiple chest tubes put in to try and drain that fluid. During this time, Dad was basically in charge of raising us three kids, but got help from our ward/neighbors. They provided dinner for us nearly every night which was really appreciated and helpful. :)

-I got new glasses recently/ frames and everything, and I'm not liking them at all. I've been getting headaches, because the way the glasses sit have been creating a fishbowl effect for me where the walls wobble whenever I move my head. I've been told to wait a week to adjust, but I don't want to. (The way the glass is made in the particular frames I picked out was different from my original glasses, and they tried to keep the original curvature I think....so we had to fix it in order for me to wear them without getting the fish bowl effect.)
I'm also continuing working on driving lessons as well. I drove through my first yellow light the day before, and drove in the dark for the first time as well. It's also been snowing, which means the parents aren't as keen to let me drive. :(

-One of the girls in my ASL class brought cookies today just because it was Friday. My Anthropology class passed without incident. Had a meeting with my English teacher and he called the paper I was working on "Provocative." Had history and Institute Devotional. I went with Allison and Kristin to Ali's Physical Therapy. I grabbed dinner afterwards and waited for my friend Kailie to come down to visit as she's staying for the weekend. ^^ She's currently a senior in High School. So I gave her a tour of campus and we spent time chatting and watching movies. :) Also, tonight Ali's boyfriend Brad proposed to her at the SLC temple. ^^ Awww! My roomie is getting married! (Weird to think Kailie is now married with two kids. O.o. lol Ali is also married, she just has one kid.)

-I had a headache when I woke up today, either because I was woken up abruptly or I slept too late. In any case I went to the Eye Doctor with Kikay. My left eye has gotten slightly worse since I last came in. :( We met Mom and Meralto as we were leaving as Meralto had a eye appointment then. I had a date with Brandon B. He showed up fresh from giving plasma right about lunch time. We stayed at my place for a bit so that Meralto and Mom could come home so that they could meet him. After they came home, Brandon and I went bowling and I impressed him because my first turn I got a strike! We ended up playing two games and then we went to his home where I met his family. (so weird since this was like our second date. I don't think I had a third with him.) We watched an episode of Psych (I think he introduced me to the show.) before we grabbed food at subway and drinks at Keva Juice. We went back to his place and watched more Psych. After the episode I saw that it was 5pm (our date had started at noon) So I was ready for it to be over, but no he wanted to spend more time with me, so he ignored my wanting to go home signals (or just didn't see them.) We ended up talking on the couch for like another hour, and then asked if I wanted to go for a walk. We ended up going to a park nearby and played and goofed around there for a bit. (that lasted like half an hour to an hour) and we came back.....to his place to play a game. Gah! That lasted for another hour so it was 8pm and I reminded him at that point that I had to go shopping for food which FINALLY ended our date! If that hadn't worked I would have texted my mom (secretly) to send me a text in a few minutes to say I had to come home. He took my home and hugged me good night and we made plans for another date next Friday...( oh so I did do a third date? huh.) By the time it was all over (who does an 8 hour date?!?!?) I had a headache from the stress of it all. I went food shopping with Daddoo after telling the fam about my date. overall I liked it, but didn't like how long it lasted.

-It was Stake Conference today, spent the day doing a whole lot of nothing afterwards then went to a CES fireside with L. Tom Perry. Dan came back from Arizona this night as well and I was 'seriously glad to see him' We ended up watching Batman Begins with my roommate Tasha and Dave.

-I woke up really wakeful at like 7am this morning, but instead of being productive and maybe trying to write, I dozed back off until my alarm went off. I walked to school. In my criminal justice class we went over a test. I got 88/90. Just missed one question. Had my two institute classes, then for my Publicity committee we had a meeting but mostly played Swedish twister. :) I won one of the rounds. ^^ Yay! Came home and at 6pm went on a date with a guy named Bryant (met him at the institute, he was on my committee for a bit.) to Noodles & Co. Didn't like the food there at all. And Bryant just talked the whole time again....which bugged me. I'd like to have a guy who wants me to talk as well....

-I dropped Kikay off at school and headed off to the other college where I spent time drawing and writing and of course waiting to see if Vocal Point would show up and sing -as they have a tendency to sing between classes right before or after their class is over. They did! It was great to hear them sing so close and in person. ^^ I even got a flier from one of the people McKay. Awww silently fangirling. I went with Kikay fencing that night, but spent the time writing until she got off work there, then we went to 7 peaks to join our ward there in ice skating. :) That was fun but rubbed my ankles a bit raw. :S

-I spent the morning reading with a brief excursion outside to meet up with the parents as they were on their way to Las Vegas for a Nascar race. (Funny, they're in Vegas right now in 2015 too..) They were dropping off stuff for me to give to Kim (she was in class?) Then I went to work from 2pm-7pm, which was a surprisingly short shift (5hour shifts are short for me.) It was nice though as it allowed me more time for reading but too short as I wasn't able to get the tanks I was scheduled to clean done. :( I spent the last hour of my shift on the register because a coworker didn't show up. >.< ugh. Hate it when that happens.

-I had an early morning shift this morning at work, and my feet totally felt it today. (I had a 10hr shift yesterday) I had a new greenie coworker in this morning with me so I was able to teach them how to do our fish shipments, I think they'll catch on quickly. They already knew were most of the fish were which was awesome. ^^ The rest of the day went by slowly, there weren't many people in the store for my shift, though I jumped on register constantly enough to make it seem like it was more busy. I came home for a bit to relax, and then at 7:30 went with a friend Mirleki to the BYU Vocal Point Concert. ^^ Awesome! Totally awesome. The guys are amazing everytime. ^^ Seriously it's like a little bit of heaven. And it got even better. A couple of my Twitter friends had come to the concert as well, so I went back after dropping of Mirleki (who loved the concert too.) to finally meet them in person. ^^ Then, they took me to introduce me to members of the group and their director! ()_() oh man. It was awesome to actually finally speak to them. You have no idea. I've been to many a concert, but haven't ever been brave enough to stand in line to meet them and I was able to do that tonight! ^^ And since I got there later once the main line died down and tried to buy something for them to sign....I ended up getting a free poster. ^^ Awwww!! PLUS I got my picture taken with them!! ^^ Totally. The. Best. I'm still on a high from it. ^^

A Cracked Vase

A doctor named Rachel Remen tells a true story about a handsome, young football player who loses the feeling of love that light brings.
His life had been good, with friends and an athletic body.
Then he got cancer in his leg.
His leg had to be cut off above the knee.
Playing football and receiving fame were now things of the past.
He grew angry, making his life dark and confusing.
It was hard for him to know who he was.

Doctor Remen asked this young man to draw what his body looked like.
He drew a simple sketch of a vase.
Then he took a thick, black crayon and drew a deep crack down the vase.
It was clear that he believed his body was like a broken vase that could never be made useful again.
This was not really true.
They made him an artificial leg so he could walk.
But his heart felt so dark that his body wouldn't heal.

Then he talked to some people who had problems like his own.
He understood their feelings.
He started to help other people feel better.
A light came into his own heart, and he started to heal.

He met a young lady with similar problems.
Her heart was filled with shadows.
When he entered her hospital room for the first time, she refused to look at him and lay in bed with her eyes closed.
He tried everything he knew to reach her.
He played the radio, he told jokes, and finally he took off his artificial leg and let it drop to the floor.
Startled, she opened her eyes and saw him for the first time as began to hop around the room, snapping his fingers in time to the music.
She burst out laughing and said, "If you can dance, maybe I can sing."
They became friends.
They shared their fears and helped each other feel hopeful.

In the young man's last visit with the doctor, he looked at his old drawing of the vase with the crack in it and said, "That picture of me is not finished."
Taking a yellow crayon, he drew lines going from the crack to the edges of the paper.
He put his finger on the ugly black crack and said, "This is where the light comes through."
I believe he meant that dark and difficult experiences help us to feel the light from Heavenly Father's love.

The Dream

My parents were remodeling their home. Mom was trying to create a third bedroom where there had only been two before. She wanted there to be three bedrooms there, for each kid. (Somehow the parents bedroom was added into the mix...so four bedrooms?) The first we all saw of the changes were the switch in windows. There were more windows then there had been before. We came into the rooms....and they were small. Like walk in closet size. There was basically room for the bed and that was it. It halfway looked like the rooms in a cruise ship. We kids went in trying to make the best of it. The beds were elevated, so we needed a ladder to climb up (which meant there was storage below) and the shelves...were odd, it was a crisscross pattern above the bed. My mom was seriously disappointed, she wanted to make everything better...and it seemed like it had only gotten worse. She tried to see if they could expand out the rooms a couple of inches, but that would move the building off the current foundation. She also was questioning the builder's tastes as they decided to have the microwave above the bed, above our heads when we were sleeping, which seemed....dangerous....

Then the unholy tones of daylight pulled me away...
and I became myself again. :)

Where'd This Come From?

I happened to look down at my hand today,
And noticed a red mark there.
Right below my fingernail bed.
A mark that hadn't been there earlier in the day I was pretty sure.
At first I thought it was just something stuck to my hand, a piece of fish food, a marker mark, something that I could remove.
Only touching it...
There wasn't anything on the surface.
So I took a closer look.
And realized,
That the red mark I was seeing,
Was blood, pooling just under the skin.
O.o
What the?
It seemed like such an odd place to get a blood blister....

And I really for the life of me can't recall slamming my finger into anything,
Or hitting it.
Or doing anything at all to warrant this oddness.

That's not totally surprising though,
As I get so busy and stressed at work, that I just go into auto pilot and quickly forget when I hurt myself, or don't even realize I have hurt myself until much later when I've had a chance to relax.

This appears to be the case here.
Still...
It's weird.
What would I have done to make blood pool just below the surface of my skin? Right by the nailbed?
No idea.
Really, I have no idea.

It Came, It Fell, It Disappeared

So there I was at work.
It was cloudy outside,
Like it had been for most of the morning.
So I wasn't thinking much about it beyond the fact that I hoped it would convince people to stay home so I could work on my morning tasks.

I saw my replacement walk in to the doors. Looking all dry, if bundled up.
Which meant the weather was still 'good.'

Then.
I happen to walk past the windows of our store like two minutes later.
O.o
Snow!
It was snowing!
Like thick heavy snow that made it seem like it had been snowing like that already for an hour or so.

It was surprising.
And I double checked with my coworker when they got on the floor.
And they said that it hadn't been snowing when they walked in.
O.o
So my coworker had just missed the storm!
Lucky!

Even crazier, was that when I got off like half an hour later,
There was already a good inch or so of snow coating everything.
It fell hard, fast, and actually....stuck!
To the point that my car had a little bit of trouble getting out of the parking lot and driving.

It looked like it was going to last forever!

It didn't. Not even an hour later, it had stopped.
And by the time I got done with my errands....the snow that had stuck to the ground was already melting.
Creating a flood of water in the parking lot.
Nice deep puddles everywhere.

And a couple of hours later...
It was all gone.

No snow anymore.

I'd been so excited!!
I wanted it to stick for a few days!
And here it was....already gone. *sighs*

Hopefully I can get another snow storm before spring truly hits.
Because honestly, this winter hasn't existed at all! *sighs*
at least not where I am.

Keys Keys Keys

We had a lesson in Relief Society today.
Talking about the Priesthood, and Priesthood keys.

I admit, I wasn't paying too much attention to it...I'd heard most of it before and had read the talks given. Plus the mind just didn't want to focus on such a topic today.

But then, the teacher did something to catch my attention.

She pulled out a little hand out to give to all of us.
And on the paper, was a metal key.
Most of them looked like those old keys that used to go to houses.
(In reality they were keys from the Michaels' craft store. So new, but made to look old.)

The reason why this caught my attention is....

I love old keys. ^^

I have a soft spot for the ancient looking things.
Probably because I enjoy history.
And old looking keys just feel like they would have a history to them.
The stories they could tell if they could talk.
What did they unlock?
Who held them?
For how long?

Old Keys are awesome. ^^

I loved being able to pick one out.

.....Though it was difficult to not just abscond with the lot of them...

Looking at it just makes me smile. ^^
