The A.M. Food

I became one of those people I don't like this morning.
The ones that are out and about shopping at the very start of the day.
Yah.
>.<
That was me.

Why?
Well....it wasn't on purpose let me assure you.
But through a series of distracting events, I ended up taking my work phone home with me yesterday...and had to bring it back this morning. (18 hour vacation for that phone. Yay for it.)

Which left me up.
Awake.
Out of the apartment.
Waaaayyy to early in the morning.

But I didn't want to just go back to my apartment.
I wanted to be up doing stuff!
I wanted to find a cozy corner to just hang out in and peoplewatch/write/draw etc...
Cept I had no idea where to go.
As my usual spot of preference is school.
And on a Saturday...that just seems wrong to visit the College and hang out.

So I went a scoping.
And ended up doing a bit of morning shopping as well at the mall....where I ended up for a bit.

But the best news of the day,
Was that I was up and about.
Which meant.
I could try something I'd always been meaning to try.
What was this thing?

Taco Bell's Breakfast Menu.

Don't ask me why I've wanted to try it for a while.
It's just been one of those things where I saw it one day, and thought it looked really good.
And I just wanted to see if it tasted as good as it looked.

The only problem is....
If I'm not at work.....I'm never out of the house before 11.
Because I like to sleep in.
And unfortunately, fast food places like those of Taco Bell....do not serve breakfast at all hours of the day. (which is a shame....)
And since their breakfast menu ends at 11....
I've never gotten the chance to try their breakfast food.

Until today.
Because I was up and about before 11.
Because I had to bring back my work phone.
Because I wanted to not go back to my apartment.
So finally.
Finally.

I was able to go to Taco Bell, look at their menu and finally pick something out to order!

My choice? The A.M. Sausage CrunchWrap.
Which was basically a hashbrown, with sausage and eggs and spicy cheese all wrapped in a soft taco shell.
It sounded delicious, and the picture made it look delicious!
So I ordered it and promptly escaped the building to go eat my prize in a more remote location.
I.E. The mall....because I didn't want to go home yet.
And guys.....

It was delicious!
Seriously, it tasted better than my expectations which is a Wow surprise! sort of reaction.
I hoped it would be good, but for it to actually taste this good?

Oh, it's seriously made me reconsider my preference of not leaving the house before 11.
Because if I could get one of these like once a week...
Pretty sure I'd be in heaven. ^^

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

The Dream

I was at work, and things were a bit chaotic because we were moving our back rooms into a new location, one that was closer to the front of the store, and in a more noisy location, which I couldn't understand. To make it worse, this new 'room' seemed to be outside surrounded by trees yet at the same time was inside a room that was like a closet, but at the same time, I was sitting in a long narrow cardboard box with all the animals precariously placed inside and somehow this cardboard box was both a room that was able to protect the animals from the elements and yet it was just cardboard box that was chest high when I sat down in it to try and give some of our sick animals their medicine and it was out in the open so everyone could stare in and see what I was doing which I did not like. Because I feared that they would bother the animals, especially a young freckled boy in a baseball cap that had the aura of trouble around him....

Then the unholy tones of daylight pulled me away...
and I became myself again. :)

When

It's been a long while since I've picked up a book to read.
A couple of months it seems like at least. Not since Christmas time...
Not because I don't have any books to read.
I have a lot of them, most of them still untouched from Christmas.

It was just...none of them had yet grabbed my interest.
Yet, still once a week, after my Institute class,
I find myself going into Barnes and Noble.
Mostly just to see what books have come out in the last week.
See if there are any that catch my interest.

So far this year, I hadn't found any that I'd wanted to buy.
(With the exception of Brandon Sanderson's book Firefight but that was a need to buy not a want to buy.)

But this week, when I went into the store.
Not again expecting to find anything.

I browsed through the shelves.
And came across a book.

It had one of those looks...that just...sparked an interest. A cover that made me wonder...huh, what is this about?

So I opened the inside flap and read:

Maddie Fynn is a shy high school junior, cursed with an eerie intuitive ability: she sees a series of unique digits hovering above the foreheads of each person she encounters. Her earliest memories are marked by these numbers, but it takes her father's premature death for Maddie and her family to realize that these mysterious digits are actually death dates, and just like birthdays, everyone has one.

Forced by her alcoholic mother to use her ability to make extra money, Maddie identifies the quickly approaching death date of one client's young son, but because her ability only allows her to see the when and not the how, she's unable to offer any more insight. When the boy goes missing on that exact date, law enforcement turns to Maddie.

Soon, Maddie is entangled in a homicide investigation, and more young people disappear and are later found murdered. A suspect for the investigation, a target for the murderer, and attracting the attentions of a mysterious young admirer who may be connected to it all, Maddie's whole existence is about to be turned upside down. Can she right things before it's too late?

Admittedly, this inside flap didn't catch my interest at first.
I mean, I like crime shows on TV, and perhaps it was because I'd watched some earlier in the day that I got curious.
The first line of the last paragraph, about being entangled in a homicide investigation. That's what stopped me from placing the book back on the shelf.
How does she help? I wondered as my hand moved the book back to it's home.
I hesitated.
Pulled the book back to me.
It couldn't hurt to read the first page and see what style the author wrote in.

Twenty pages later, I realized I was still standing there at the shelves. So I left them in search of a chair to sit down in and continue reading.
80 pages later, I looked up to realize...
That the store would be closing soon, and I still had 200 pages to go to find out how this book ended.
Which meant.
Oh yah, I was totally buying the book, because I couldn't just set it back on the shelf and wonder what happens next.
I knew that I would finish it that night, (I am a quick reader, and I did do so.) But still, I bought it. It had me emotionally involved enough that I wanted to continue with it.

And so I bought it,
took it home,
and continued reading it.

Wow.
It's not often that a book can set me on such an emotional roller coaster journey.
But the way the author used her words.
She totally succeeded.
She could convince me to hate one character one moment, and in the space of a few pages make me like them and have sympathy for them. (also vice versa)
It was even amazing how she could quickly make parts of the book super creepy. (in the 'the murderer is going to kill you!' sort of way.)

Which made it difficult to fall asleep right after reading it...
Note to self, do not read crime solving books late at night.

And the best part of this book?
The fact that the ending of it didn't say "To be continued."
Yes!
It was a single, stand alone book!
Do you know how RARE that is to find nowadays? It seems like every book I pick up it says "Book 1 of such and such a series"

That doesn't mean that the book can't continue and become a series.
But the fact that it wasn't obviously made to be a part of a series was refreshing.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It was a quick thrilling read, something to excite me and get my own creativity juices flowing again. ^^

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Visualizing The Finish

Several years ago, my husband and I qualified to run the Boston Marathon.
The night before the marathon, in an effort to visualize what it would be like to complete the race, we went to downtown Boston about a mile from the finish line.
There in the quiet of the evening we laced up our running shoes and ran that last mile to the finish.
As we crossed the line we held our hands victoriously high in the air and pretended that we had won the race!
We imagined thousands of observers in the stands cheering for us.
The next day we ran the race.
Twenty-six point two miles (41.3 km) is a challenging distance.
There are hills that are called "Heartbreak" for a very good reason.
The entire time I was running those hills, I kept in mind that finish line and what it had felt like the night before to cross the line victorious.
That vision of the finish line helped me to finish that marathon in a pelting, cold New England storm.

Shrinking Violet

Oh how things have changed.

It's often not obvious to see how far you've come in a situation, until you remark on how you had been in the past, and the people with you now can't believe that what you say is true.

So this past couple of weeks, I've been training some new blood in the store.
Finally, I'm getting the people I need in our department so that we can actually run efficiently!
*celebration dance*

For so long I'd been working in a store that was majorly understaffed.
Not because he couldn't afford to hire anyone,
But because previous managers didn't think we needed to.
(Oh we needed to!)

But with a new head manager coming into the store,
Finally things are getting back to how they were when I first started working there.
Meaning,
There will actually be people in the store! Yes!
We have the coverage now (or will be getting it soon.) to get our tasks done but still be able to help customers as well.
Truly, we're not fully staffed yet, but even with the fresh additions we have so far, it's been a noticeable improvement.

In any case.
I've been training new people in my department.
And one such coworker.
Can be described as the "Shrinking Violet." short of personality.
Where it almost seems like if you look at her the wrong way she'll start quivering and be a moment from tears. She's quiet. Willing to learn, but very soft.

Basically how I was when I first started.
I was quiet, kinda had that hunched shoulder thing about me where I expected to be yelled at or make customers unhappy. I was the shrinking violet, happy to not engage with any customers at all if I could help it.

And my new coworker is the same way.
Though I am not concerned about it.
She'll come out of her shell with time.
It's rather overwhelming the first few days or weeks...even a month or so.
It takes time to get comfortable.

My manager mentioned this concern with me, that she was rather quiet and timid.
And I told him I'd been the same way when I first started.

lol, the look on his face told me he didn't believe me before the words came out of his mouth.

Yah. I don't look it now.
I'm confident, happy, able to engage with the customers.
Basically I'm totally opposite of how I first started.

The manager doesn't believe I was anything other than this from the beginning, but he didn't see me at the beginning. lol.

It's the same for me for every new situation I go into. I'm quiet at first and as I get more comfortable with the situation I relax and get more confident.

So I don't think we'll have any problems with our new coworker loosening up as she gets more confident in helping people. :)

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

A Day In Review -February 17th

Friday, February 17th 2006

-My Aunt and her oldest daughter came from Florida to visit, and we went to see the Wizard of Oz being performed at my High School. It was great and I loved it a bunch! Very well done.

Tuesday, February 17th 2009

-Had a cool experience in my Philosophy class this day where the Teacher was picking out two random papers to read and I totally predicted the names she would pick! John and Sheila. Totally crazy. After school I worked on cleaning my room and went to the bishoprics where I was called to serve on the Activities Committee.

Wednesday, February 17th 2010

-Today was a U sort of day for me. In that it started out alright, got worse, and then got better by the end. My classes started out well. Communications was halfway interesting, Sociology was awesome because my friend Kristen brought the teacher one of those ancient brick phones so he can answer it randomly when the cell phones go off in class. Business was a bore, and at lunch I found out that my apartment had failed our cleaning checks, neccesating a recheck next week. Which was irritating because I would have to keep my room all sparkling clean for that long and I didn't want to. I was really annoyed at my roommate Shelbie because she's never home, and didn't do her portion of the cleaning checks well enough. (I actually think I tried to do some of her tasks to save us which is probably why I was so irritated) and so that was why we failed.  I came home and took a nap to remedy my mood which did help a little bit, but ASL went well after the teacher stopped stressing us out about Tests we played roleplaying for Interpreting which was actually quite funny. I came home and watched the Olympics, and saw Lindsay Vaunn and Shawn White win Gold for the USA! Yay!

Thursday, February 17th 2011

-I walked to school today and learned new dance steps in my dance class. I ended up getting stepped on a few times by the guys...had Institute and met up with Dan for lunch. We had huge foot long hotdogs that the institute was offering for their Thursday lunch bunch. Don't think I'll get them again. After a while I went and took an Anatomy Quiz and took the Shuttle to and from the testing center and was picked up by Kikay up at the AB building so we could pick up some ink for our printer before we met up with our Writer's group. There was a relief society social, and afterwards hung out with Dan and his friend Chris -who dated Kikay a couple of times- and we ended up playing a couple of games after eating Chili.

Friday, February 17th 2012

-I didn't have much fun in school today because I'd found out I'd failed my Certification test and I disliked that some of my ASL teachers weren't as sympathetic about my "Failed Certification Status". I didn't want to be told that I should go take the Mock Test. (Why take a mock test?! It doesn't even help with anything when your peers are the ones who have to judge it and see if it went well or not.) I was able to cheer up a bit in a different ASL class because we got to Juggle! I also go tot show off because I was better than the teacher... ^^;; But I also got to help teach the other students as well, and I really liked that. The teacher in this class was more sympathetic when he heard I hadn't passed and he took me into his office and gave me a pep talk telling me that I wasn't a horrible person/interpreter and that he'd failed the test as well the first time and that he should have gone over what the testers were looking for before I went to take the test. Definitely more of what I needed to hear and it helped me feel better about myself which I really needed.
I did some Publicity stuff, and couldn't understand why my Cochairs had missed me last week when I'd been unable to make it as they had everything in good control when I got there. I think they were just not used to being in charge....
After I got home from school my Roommate Kahla made us Chicken Parmesan and Alfredo for Dinner. So good! Then Kikay and I went to the Floofies music concert thing at their High School. ^^ I liked it. Twas good.

Sunday, February 17th 2013

-Work went well enough this morning considering that it was a Sunday. >.< (boo hate working sundays.) I opened the entire department by myself as my coworker didn't come in until 11. I couldn't take a long nap like I wanted to when I got home though as I was again called by the Bishopric to meet with them and they gave me a second calling as Ward Missionary. I have no idea what that intels, but I'm glad that I wasn't called to speak in church! Though I do have to wonder why I got a second calling when others in the ward don't have any at all. (They probably forgot I had one already.) Had Church, then went to the Floofies afterwards to make cookies, and still so exhausted.

Monday, February 17th 2014

-Got a bit annoyed at work because my manager was being a bit over controlling again on how we're supposed to be doing things. Apparently when feeding the fish we're now supposed to feeding the bloodworms first instead of last. It makes sense as they're the higher protein so the fish that need it will eat more of it than if they'd stuffed themselves on flakes first, but still annoying to have to switch things up. At least my manager complimented me on how well I did the Bird Cages this morning. Yay :) I came home and took a nap and did a bit of writing/plotting.

Tuesday, February 17th 2015

-It was a bit weird at work today because I had a short shift, only 5 hours. I hardly ever get those, like...it's been a year I feel like since I've had a shift this short. Leaving work at 11 (with the department opened haha!) felt a lot like I was cutting out early. :S I should have stayed longer! Lol, though I wasn't scheduled past then. So weird. *shakes head* I dropped by the mall to grab myself some Taco Bell to get some 'red meat' into my system as I'd been suffering from some tense muscles and Kikay suggested that maybe I needed some more red meat there. I also dropped by See's Candies and got my parents some chocolates -the people there gave me samples to try! It was Awesome! Though I felt like I was totally stealing too. :S At least I bought chocolates so I didn't feel as guilty. :) I drove back up to my Hometown and ended up getting a nice dosage of TV (and a nap) for a few hours (I don't have a TV currently at my apt.) before I cleaned up the house for my parents and left them their chocolates on the bed before I went to the Dentist to get three cavities filled. >.< Bleh, they need to invent better ways to fix teeth than numbing and drilling. My mouth always aches afterwards. This time my whole upper lip was numbed soo that made for some interesting talking, though it was a bit easier than having the bottom lip numb. I dropped by back home to chat with Mom, and Dad for a bit when he got home from work. I meant to only stay for a little bit as I had an institute class to get to, but everytime I thought I should leave, I ended up continuing to talk and talk and talk and....missed my institute class. Lol. Oh well...I'm guessing there was a specific reason why I ended up not making it this time. Probably avoided a crash on the drive back home by coming later. So I'm not too shook up about missing it. :) I ended up at Barnes and Noble for a bit and actually bought myself a book! As I opened one up to see how it read and...100 pages into it later, I decided I better just buy it and take it home as the store would be closing soon anyways.... It's called When by Victoria Laurie. Kinda different from my usual taste in books, but I'm captivated by it. :) Now to get back to reading!!

October 2003 General Conference Saturday Afternoon

James E. Faust -The Sustaining of Church Officers

Boyd K. Packer -"The Standard of Truth Has Been Erected"
  • You have agency--"moral agency." You are free to choose your standards.
  • Before we came into mortal life, we lived as spirit children of our Father in Heaven. "All human beings--male and female--are created in the image of God. Each [of you] is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, [you have] a divine nature and destiny. Gender [male and female] is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose.
  • Nothing is more important to the Church and to civilization itself than the family!
  • "God ... will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."
  • I do not wish to offend the delicate feelings of you wonderful young people, but in your world awash with iniquity, you must be on guard.
  • There is great power in prayer. As a son or a daughter of God, you can, as Joseph did, pray to God in the name of Jesus Christ for strength.
  • Satan, with his angels, will try to capture your thoughts and control what you do. If he can, he will corrupt anything that is good. To him the Internet is just that--a net to ensnare you into wicked addiction.
  • In the Church, one is not condemned for tendencies or temptations. One is held accountable for transgression.  If you do not act on unworthy persuasions, you will neither be condemned nor be subject to Church discipline.
  • We do not set the standards, but we are commanded to teach them and maintain them. The standard remains abstinence before marriage and total fidelity in marriage. However out of step we may seem, however much the standards are belittled, however much others yield, we will not yield, we cannot yield. Obedience to the moral standard and observance of the Word of Wisdom will remain as requirements for ordination to the priesthood, for a mission, and for a temple recommend.
  • Satan cannot forever imprison you. You always hold the key of repentance to unlock the prison door.
  • If you, our youth, feel alone, remember there are millions of you in the Church now. Tens of thousands of you at this moment serve missions. You are a visible example, a testimony of the Restoration, even to those who will not listen to your message. Wherever you are--in school, at work or play, in the military--you are never alone.
  • Now words can be used as weapons against you. If they throw the word diversity at you, grab hold of it and say, "I am already diverse, and I intend to stay diverse." If the word is tolerance, grab that one, too, saying, "I expect you to be tolerant of my lifestyle--obedience, integrity, abstinence, repentance." If the word is choice, tell them you choose good, old-fashioned morality. You choose to be a worthy husband or wife, a worthy parent.
  • The whole Church may stand alone in defense of these standards. But we are not the first. Moroni, the last of his people, said: "I even remain alone. ... I fulfil the commandment of my father." Do not be afraid.
Robert D. Hales -Receiving a Testimony of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ
  • So it is for us. Some newly baptized members become discouraged about their wisdom and stature in the gospel--about what they do not know. They forget the obedient effort, gospel tutoring, and spiritual maturation that were part of Joseph's early experiences. Those who are longtime members should also remember that regular spiritual instruction and learning are required if we are to wax strong in the Spirit.
  • Every major even of the Restoration--the First Vision, the appearance of Moroni and the coning forth of the Book of Mormon, the restoration of the priesthood and the appearance of Jesus Christ following the dedication of His holy temple--was preceded by prayer.
  • People everywhere may feel the influence of the Holy Ghost from time to time in their lives. But only those who have been baptized and confirmed can receive the gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands by one in authority, which makes His constant companionship possible.
  • Retaining that companionship requires an earnest effort on the part of Church members. If we are not obedient to the laws, principles, and ordinances of the gospel, the Holy Ghost will withdraw. He cannot be with us if we are angry in our hearts, contentious with our companions, or critical of the Lord's anointed. He departs whenever we are rebellious, are immoral, dress or act immodestly, are unclean or profane in mind or body, are slothful in priesthood callings and duties, or commit other sins, for "the Spirit of the Lord doth not dwell in unholy temples."
  • Therefore we must continually repent, partake of the sacrament, be worthy of a temple recommend, and serve the Lord with all our "heart, might, mind and strength."
Shirley D. Christensen -The Clarion Call of Prophets
  • The clarion call of the prophets is as clear today as it ever was in the past, and the testimony of the prophets will continue to the very moment that the Lord Jesus Christ returns to reign in glory.
  • "And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his might storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall."
W. Craig Zwick -The Lord Thy God Will Hold Thy Hand
  • Hands are one of the symbolically expressive parts of the body. In Hebrew, yad, the most common word for "hand," is also used metaphorically to mean power, strength, might. Thus, hands signify power and strength.
  • To be in the hands of God would suggest that we are not only under His watchful care but also that we are guarded and protected by His wondrous power.
  • Every one of us needs to know that we can go on in the strength of the Lord. We can put our hand in His, and we will feel His sustaining presence lift us to heights unattainable alone.
  • We must trust in the Lord. If we give ourselves freely to Him, our burdens will be lifted and our hearts will be consoled.
  • "Trust in God .. no matter how challenging the circumstance. ... Your peace of mind, your assurance of answers to vexing problems, your ultimate joy depend upon your trust in Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ."
  • Here are four keys:
    • Learn
    • Listen
    • Seek the Spirit
    • Pray always
  • Just as little children trust each, each of us must have that same childlike, unreserved trust. We must all remember that we are sons and daughters of God and that He loves us very much. If we truly understand who we are, we will have an unfailing source of hope and comfort.
  • We can never complete "the race that is set before us" without placing our hand in the Lord's.
  • "To those [of us] who [occasionally] stagger or stumble, He is there to steady and strengthen." As we advance toward the finish line, He will be there to save us; and for all this He gave his life.
Dallin H. Oaks -Repentance and Change
  • The gospel of Jesus Christ challenges us to change. "Repent" is its most frequent message, and repenting means giving up all of our practices--personal, family, ethnic, and national--that are contrary to the commandments of God. The purpose of the gospel is to transform common creatures into celestial citizens, and that requires change.
  • A less serious worldly tradition that conflicts with gospel culture is the idea of upward or downward movement in positions. In the world, we refer to the up or down of promotions or reductions. But there is no up or down in Church positions. We just move around. A bishop released by proper authority and called to teach in Primary does not move down. He moves forward as he accepts his release with gratitude and fulfills the duties of a new calling--even one far less visible.
  • No group has a monopoly on virtue or an immunity from the commandment to change.
  • We say to all, give up your traditions and cultural practices that are contrary to the commandments of God and the culture of His gospel, and join with His people in building the kingdom of God. If we cease to walk in darkness, the Apostle John taught, "we walk in the light, ... we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin."
  • "Let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth."
Richard G. Scott -Realize Your Full Potential
  • Truly, as obedience and morality decline in the world, the Lord is sending more exceptional spirits to earth. As a body they excel the average capacity of their forebears. Their potential for personal growth and positive contribution is enormous.
  • With all my capacity I encourage you to discover who you really are. I invite you to look beyond the daily routine of life. I urge you to discern through the Spirit your divinely given capacities. I exhort you to prayerfully make worthy choices that will lead you to realize your full potential.
  • To share truth in difficult circumstances is to treasure it more. When you push against the boundaries of experience into the twilight of the unknown, the Lord will strengthen you. The beauty of your eternal soul will begin to unfold.
  • You are of a singular generation with exceptional potential. No wonder Satan wants to cripple that potential by tempting you to violate the laws of God. He knows that he has no power over a righteous individual. Yet he is a master at making sin appealing to the undecided.
  • Don't just listen to pass a test. Incorporate what you study into your life.
  • Remain worthy, When you really understand who you are, it is not difficult to resist Satan's temptations. Then he can't thwart the development of your true potential.
Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

Headache Woes

There are nights when I really struggle.
Struggle to rest.
Struggle to sleep.
Struggle to stay warm.
Struggle to relax.

Why?

Because there are nights when I get really bad headaches.
Ones where nothing at all seems to work on me until the early hours of the morning.

This one I had last night was one of the worser ones.
Where medicine didn't help it go away.
Drinking water didn't help it go away.
Heat packs didn't help it go away.
Sleep didn't help it go away.
and taking a Shower didn't help it go away.

Seriously, it was torture.
My neck and back were so tense.
My head ached.
It made my stomach all rolly polly.
And I was all shivery.
I hate it when I shiver.

It just proves how really unwell I am because I don't ever really shiver. I love the cold!
But with the headache I had last night.
Oh no, no tolerance for it at all.
It was like 73 degrees in my apartment,
and I was shivering like it was snowing!

Finally though, I managed to fall asleep, curled up on a heat pack on our couch in the living room.

Yay for the miracle couch. O.o
So odd, that every apartment I've been on that has one such couch, one where I can curl up on it, and walla, some sleep later and I'm all better.

Headache gone!
Finally.

>.< I hate getting headaches that are that bad.

Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!
