185th Semiannual General Conference -Sunday Highlights

Sunday Morning Session

President Thomas S. Monson
  • Let your light Shine via: 1. Examples in Word 2. Conversation. 3. Charity 4. Spirit 5. Faith 6. Be Pure.
  • Be dedicated to the work of the Lord.
  • Let your light so shine before men. That they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in Heaven.
  • Be an example of the Believers in all things.
  • Let us speak to others with love and respect. Keeping language clean, and avoiding harmful comments.
  • Look out for others and help lift their spirits. Bring hope to the hopeless and strength to the weak.
  • Look for opportunities to serve others to lift them and ourselves.
  • Honor your agreements.
  • Let the light in your eyes continuously shine.
  • Faith becomes the anchor to our lives. Faith and Doubt can't exist in the same mind at the same time.
  • Our minds should be filled with uplifting and enobleling thoughts.
  • Stand out from the world. Be different. Stand up and be confident in your beliefs and standards.
  • The world will get darker. Let your light get brighter. Stand up even if you stand alone in a crowd.
  • Our opportunities to shine surround us each day. Don't miss being able to be a light in others lives.

Elder Ronald A. Rasband
  • I stand all amazed at the love Jesus offers me.
  • All calls to serve in the Church come from Christ.
  • You may not be able to walk in someone else's shoes, but you can stand tall on their shoulders, learning and growing from them.
  • Leave a good legacy for your posterity to follow.
  • Let your faith and testimony give strength to others faith and testimonies.
  • Reach out to your fellow men in love.
  • Mothers are the earliest source of testimonies. Let your children learn from your feet the love of Christ and his Gospel.

Elder Gary E. Stevenson
  • Be the sunshine in and off the life of others.
  • You can each be uniquely different, but still be able to harmonize in your beliefs and testimony.
  • Act on the will of the Lord.
  • The Lord will qualify those who he calls.
  • Anchor your faith in Jesus Christ.
  • Be the sunshine in the life of others.
  • Be the sort of spouse that can stand tall and support your significant other in their trials and callings in life.
  • We may live in perilous times but also in the Fullness of times.

Elder Dale G. Renlund
  • Being called o serve a mission isn't about you, but being able to serve in the Lord's work and to his children.
  • Look to comfort others who need comfort while you too are in need of comfort.
  • The fullness of gospel is proclaimed via the weak and simple to the ends of the world.
  • Look on the positive side of things.
  • See others through a parent's eyes. Only then can we comprehend the worth of a soul.

Elder Russell M. Nelson
  • Be filled with Love, Truth, and Pure Faith.
  • Be stalwart. Show strength and courage.
  • Women of this dispensation are distinct from the women in other dispensations, because this dispensation is different from others.
  • Much of the growth in the last days, will come because the women of the world will be drawn in large numbers to the church.
  • Women in the Church are seen as distinct and different in Happy ways from Women of the World.
  • The Brethren need the Women's strength, wisdom, leadership in these last days to help keep the church strong.
  • Be a Woman of Strength.
  • Speak with the power and the authority of God.
  • Be organized
  • Teach fearlessly your beliefs and convictions.
  • If you quit now. Others will have to painfully learn what you already know.
  • Whatever your calling, whatever your circumstances, we need your insights, and inspiration. Speak up!
  • Do you realize the scope of your influence when you speak when directed by the spirit?
  • Brethren cannot duplicate a women's unique experience and strength. We need your strength.
  • Help raise a sin resistant generation.
  • Nothing is more crucial to your eternal life than your own conversion.
  • Step forward. Take your rightful and needful place in your home, community, kingdom of God. More than you have before.
  • I Bless you women to rise to your full statute and the full measure of your creation.

Elder Gregory A. Schwitzer
  • Music can be an extension of your voice and feelings.
  • I am a Child of God. And he has Sent me Here.
  • Don't be afraid to speak against others who have disagreeing opinions.
  • Hearken to my Words. Bear a straightforward testimony.
  • Stand up. Powerfully witness God's doctrine and his Church. Something will change within us. His countenance will shine upon us.
  • He will be on our right and our left and within our hearts.
  • Angels will bear you up when you stand up for your beliefs.
  • True disciples desire to inspire the hearts of men. Not just to impress them.
  • Often it is not convenient or comfortable to stand up for Christ.
  • Speak with clarity.
  • Have courage to speak boldly against the world.
  • Don't let the Great and Spacious building grow in size.
  • Don't become part of the World's Culture.
  • Do not succumb to the World's beliefs.
  • Those who mock try to drown out the simple doctrine of the church.
  • God is our loving heavenly Father. Jesus Christ is his son. Gospel is restored. The evidence the Book of Mormon. Path of happiness is through Families. It will be a familiar melody to us for we learned it in our Premortal life.

Elder Claudio R. M. Costa
  • You can find much in the stories of Jesus that can help you as you go through this life.
  • Have the desire to be a Better Person.
  • What does it mean to Always Remember Him? Remember his premortal life. Creating the World. His Birth. He teachings. He Died for Us.
  • Remember all that He went through physically, mentally emotionally, in order to give us a chance for Eternal Life.
  • The Sacrament is a time for Heavenly Father to teach us about the Atonement of his Son Jesus Christ.
  • Ask, nothing wavering, and you will receive.
President Henry B. Eyring
  • Increase your desire and determination to claim the gift of the Holy Ghost.
  • We can, if we live worthy, Always have the Spirit of The Holy Ghost to be with us.
  • The Holy Ghost helps to warn us to resist the temptation to do wrong.
  • With the Holy Ghost. Good becomes more attractive. Bad becomes less compelling.
  • We live in a time where even the wisest will have trouble seeing truth from deception.
  • Blessed are they who have not seen yet still believe.
  • Revelation is safer than physical proof.
  • Lies can be presented to us at any time. If we keep the Spirit with us, we will never doubt or be in darkness.
  • Never let your Testimony falter, dwindle, or fade, Keep it up. Maintain it constantly.
  • Plant the seeds of Faith and Belief. Care for them. Don't let them wither and die.
  • Whatever it is. Do it.
  • God will send his Spirit to help you in your trials, tribulations and yearnings to do better.
  • No matter how tired you are. Always do as the Spirit urges. Bear your testimony.
  • Only through the Holy Ghost can we see people and events as God sees them.
  • Put your trust in that Spirit that leadeth you to do good.

Sunday Afternoon Session

Elder D. Todd Christofferson
  • Church safeguards and publishes God's revelations.
  • The Church is the creation of Him in who our Spirituality is Centered.
  • The Church is Simple in its Doctrine and Gospel. It can be taught in any culture on any continent and be understood.
  • One can't fully achieve progression when you work in the Spirit of Isolation.
  • Christ is the author and finisher of our faith.
  • Join in Faith. Teach and Edify each other.
  • We are all imperfect. We often test one another with our personal idiosyncrasies.
  • Every single person is important in the Church.
  • In the Church we are ALL on the SAME journey.
  • Repentance is individual. But Fellowship on the path is for everyone.
  • In the Beginning, the Church was the Family.
  • If one believes there all roads lead to heaven then there is no need for ordinances or covenants.
  • The Church is the Kingdom of God on the Earth.
  • With the keys of the kingdom, the apostles of the Lord can define what is good and what is bad for the Kingdom of God.
  • Call upon the Lord that His Kingdom may come upon the Earth that the people there can receive his Gospel.
  • May the Kingdom of the Earth bring forth the Kingdom of Heaven.

Brother Devin G. Durrant
  • Save money each week. Doesn't matter how much. Be developed the habit. You will benefit from it.
  • Ponderize a scripture each week.
  • The Primary purpose of Ponderizing is the give your Thoughts an uplifting place to go.
  • We can't accept the Status Quo when it is filled with darkness. We must Fight Back.
  • Don't be deterred. Hard is Good.
  • Please don't hesitate to include people of others faiths in your spiritual thoughts. They too are looking to be uplifted.
  • Scriptures can be like friends you can rely on in times of need.
  • Elevate your thoughts.
  • Exercise your Faith. Discipline yourself, and Do it!

Elder Von G. Keetch
  • You may not know why the Barrier is there, but it is for your benefit.
  • Don't be too critical of the Barrier. Its the only thing keeping you from being Devoured.
  • The Barrier can offer protection, safety, and peace.
  • A path that may look popular, fun, and exciting...may be more dangerous than you realize.
  • Avoid the Dangers. Set a Course in your life that is Safe from Spiritual Predators and the Gates of Sin.
  • Trust. Even if you don't understand why. Trust.
  • We grow and gain the most when we put our Trust in the Lord and follow His way.
  • God can make of us than we can make of ourselves.
  • It is not enough to just go through the motions. We're not making deposits. It's a plan of action.
  • The path to happiness may lead you through pain and hardship. But in the end, it will be worth it. You'll be rewarded.
  • God wants us to be Happy, Safe, and Blessed. He establishes Barriers to Protect us through life.

Sister Carole M. Stephens
  • To be Safe: 1. Trust God 2. Trust Jesus 3. Trust Holy Ghost. 4. Trust His Prophets
  • What must be done to convince us to remain fastened in our seats?
  • If ye Love me, Keep my Commandments.
  • We can choose to see Commandments as limitations. But they are actually a manifestation of his love and concern for our safety.
  • There is a law upon which all blessings are predicated. If we obey we receive the blessings, even when mistakes happen.
  • Love the Lord with all thy heart, soul, and mind. Love your neighbor the same.
  • Pray to the Father and he can give you comfort, truth, because you ask, because you know Him.
  • When you're filled with Doubt and Confusion, the Holy Ghost will be sent to help lead you back to safety.

Elder Allen D. Haynie
  • Sometimes Boys Dig Holes.
  • We don't start our planning to get covered in mud, but sometimes we end up that way.
  • Don't choose to remain dirty. Get yourself clean!
  • Become clean, so we are not left outside our Father's house.
  • Renew your Hope. Try one more Time. You are not Forgotten.
  • The path is not easy. Things that are worth it in the end rarely are.
  • On the day of judgement we can't hide in a group. We'll have no one else to blame but ourselves. But Christ is on our side.
  • Remember in whom you have trusted. Have hope.

Elder Kim B. Clark
  • Do not walk with Christ for just a single season, but always.
  • The time you may live in is dangerous. But you can have eyes to see and ears to hear to know how things really are.
  • Have Joy in the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Our time is a Dangerous time of Great Evil and Temptation. Go Rescue the Wounded. Stand in Courage. Build the Kingdom.
  • We do not have to be perfect, but we need to be good and getting better.
  • Life may get hard, confusing, painful, and discouraging. Through the Holy Ghost the light of the Gospel will cut through it all.
  • The Lord Jesus Christ works in our lives.
  • Why are you worried? I know you. I'll take care of you. Get yourself ready.
Koichi Aoyagi
  • We are warned that disasters, wars, countless difficulties, but do not lose faith. Things happen for a reason.
  • You may have to deal with physical and mental pain in your life, but it is for your growth and benefit in the end.
  • Your problems will be resolved. If not in this life, in the next.
  • All these things will give you experience and will be for your good. Go on your way for God is with you.
  • The test of loving God, is not to see if we can endure difficulty, but if we can endure it well. Turn your heart to God.
  • Love God. Have Faith in Him. Put your Trust in Him.

Elder David A. Bednar
  • Isn't it wonderful? To have a head of the Church that is mature and isn't blown about by every change in the wind?
  • When you cannot do what you've always done, then you only do what matters most.
  • The limiting factors can become your greatest strengths. Or help you find your strengths when they weren't clear before.
  • We can expect senior leaders and will be older and spiritually seasoned men.
  • The mortal limitations of men affirms the divine influence that works through them.
  • These men are not spared from affliction, but are blessed to press forward violently while suffering with/in affliction.
  • The human shortcomings/imperfections are faith promoting.
  • O Be Wise! What can I say more?
  • Cast out negative feelings of spite, anger and revenge.
  • If it is the truth, and I testify that it is. Then the work we are engaged in is the most important work.
  • Come what may and Love it!
  • Family is the center of life and the key to eternal happiness.
  • Families begin in mortality can be together in the eternities.
  • We came to mortal life precisely to grow from trials and testing. Actively come unto Christ. We can endure.
