185th Annual General Conference -Saturday Highlights

185th Annual Conference -Saturday Morning

President Henry B. Eyring
  • The Lord shall guide thee continually.
  • Fasting can help guide you in your decisions.
  • Failing to Fast/Give Fast Offerings is a sin of omission with a high cost. It will deprive us of many blessings.
  • Seek shelter within strong foundations to protect you from the winds/storms of life.
  • Part of your Fast Offering will be used to help someone, somewhere.
  • Fasting/Fast Offerings can heal and change hearts.
  • Ordinary Human beings can bring about Miracles.
  • Fast with others in your mind, it helps ease the process and makes it less of a struggle.
  • Fasting/Fast Offerings can change us for the better, remove evil from our hearts.
President Boyd K. Packer
  • Two ingredients of a successful marriage are a "cookie and a kiss."
  • The source of human happiness is having families. Having children. You can experience a fullness of joy in this way.
  • The power of procreation is the key to happiness, part of the Plan of Happiness.
  • Love grows only stronger.
  • True Love requires a Deserving and Everlasting Marriage.
  • Avoid situations where physical desire would take control.
  • Love is nourished by the company of children.
  • The spirit and the body are the soul of man.
  • Our passion is to be controlled.
  • Temptations are ever present, because the adversary is jealous to all those who have that power of procreations.
  • Satan seeks that all man be miserable like himself, do not let him succeed with you.
  • We can't escape the consequences when we transgress.
  • The power of procreation is between husband and wife, man and woman, lawfully/legally married.
  • Do not yield to temptation.
  • Every debt of transgression must be paid.
  • God is generous and merciful.
  • He who is repentive of his sins is forgiven and the Lord will remember them no more.
  • God is our Father.
  • No matter where we've been, what we've done, etc as long as we repent, Christ will atone for our sins.
  • You escape the bondage of sin by accepting the atonement of Christ.
  • Families that begin in mortality can continue into the eternities.
  • The Atonement is individual. It will work for you.
Relief Society President Linda K. Burton
  • Your spouse should bring you happiness, make you be the better you, be a confident, a close friend.
  • Life without your spouse will not be life.
  • Men, you have the Power of Priesthood to Protect your home and family.
  • Often the only defense you have will be that Priesthood. Do not let it waver.
  • You will never be released from the calling of being a Father (or a Mother.)
  • It must be difficult for men to live in a world that degrades and mocks Fatherhoods.
  • Fathers will always be needed, no matter what the world says.
  • Satan wants to make All Men Miserable Like Unto Himself.
  • Work to help the rising generation.
  • They lift me, and I lift thee, and we'll all ascend together.
  • Male and Female spirits complete each other, not compete with each other.
  • There is more happiness to be had when we can rejoice in others successes and not just our own.
  • Be less preoccupied with the endless "To Dos" that need to be done and focus on the beautiful moments that will only last a moment.
  • Pray to the Lord for help on how to find a spouse and to create a loving home.
  • Praise your companion. Thank your companion. Pray for them. Do not say hurtful things. Be sure to forgive and ask for forgiveness. Choose to be Happy. Do not always demand to be Right.
  • Guilt is to our Spirit what Pain is to our Body, a warning of danger and protection from additional damage.
  • Speak words of Kindness more often.
  • Lift the Men in your family. Lift the men you work with. Lift the men in your life to be better.
Elder Dallin H. Oaks
  • General Conference talks are assigned by the Spirit not by mortals.
  • What do we do with the Savior's Teachings as we go about our lives.
  • If your Faith does not have reason to grow it will falter.
  • Keep your roots in the gospel deep, so when the scorching light of trials do not make you wither and leave the Church.
  • Do not be converted to just the attractive characteristics of the church. But have roots in the gospel.
  • Have roots in yourself.
  • You must have firm and lasting foundations in Christ.
  • Stony hearts = stony grounds = stony disposition and life. Do not let your hearts be hardened. Increase your exposure to spiritual truths.
  • Do not deny yourself spiritual food during the sacrament by texting/talking/playing games. You are making yourself vulnerable to wither away when trials/temptations/ridicule comes your way.
  • Do not be a gifted pickle sucker.
  • Riches will not make you happy. We are all tempted by Money.
  • Do not focus on materialism. It does not make you happy.
  • Possessing riches is not Evil. But your attitude towards Riches.
  • Root of all Evil is NOT money but the LOVE of Money
  • The most subtle thorns that can choke our lives are the riches and pleasures of our lives.
  • Savor the things of God more than the things of Men.
  • God comes first. The World comes second, or even third or fifth, or ninety-seventh.
  • Do not have an "entitlement" view.
  • Do not be paralyzed by the future. Go forward in faith.
  • You have to be willing to offend, be willing to take the risk. Our commitment is supposed to be hard, impractical in the terms of this world. That's why life here on Earth is a Test, not a playdate.
  • There is a difference between living in society and being ingested in society.
  • The type of soil we experience depends on our own hearts.
  • Seek to be firmly rooted and converted to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Elder L. Whitney Clayton
  • Find the light and fight your way to it.
  • For everyone that asketh, receiveth, they only have to knock upon the door.
  • Do not insist on traveling alone in the dark. You have a light. Use it. Use your Faith. Take action. The light will always be nearby.
  • Choose to believe. Open your hearts to the divine realities of the Savior.
  • Believe in Christ.
  • God does not force us to believe. Instead he invites us to believe.
  • Put belief into action.
  • We choose to believe when we follow the teachings of Christ.
  • Jesus Christ is the source of light and hope for all of us.
Elder L. Tom Perry
  • Do not give up on marriage.
  • Giving up on marriage has brought much devastation.
  • Do not give up on yourself, over the poisonous mentality of temporary. Be revolutionary with the courage to seek out truth and love.
  • If all religious faiths and religions essentially agree on what marriage and family values should be, then why are we any different?
  • Family units = loyalty, strength, caring, etc.
  • Families go back before this earth was and will go forward into eternities.
  • Marriage and family ties can continue beyond the grave.
  • Our Marriage ceremonies eliminate "Until Death Do Us Part" replacing it instead with "For All Time and Eternity."
  • Having a family is the happiest way to live.
  • There is no other more efficient way to raise the next generation.
  • Public opinion shows that marriage is still the ideal.
  • No matter where we live or what our religious beliefs would be we share the same struggles, beliefs, hopes, and dreams for our families.
  • People are not better off when they are given the max personal freedom to do what they want, but instead are enshrouded in commitments to others.
  • The majority of the world believes that marriage should be between a man and a woman.
  • Marriage is the ideals of MOST People. We are not ALONE in this Belief.
  • Let your voice be heard among all the counterfeit lifestyles.
  • Let your voice be heard in sustaining the joy and fulfillment in your family.
  • Family is the center of life. It is the Key to Happiness.

Elder David A. Bednar
  • You should not be frightened, but remember the Lord, thy God, for he will deliver them.
  • The people can hush their own fears if they remember the Lord.
  • We can hush our own fears, when we believe in Christ because he is the only source of Enduring Peace.
  • The Peace of God surpasses all understanding.
  • We can be blessed to hush our fears, His doctrine provides purpose and direction in all areas of our lives.
  • The things that matter most can endure both in Time and Eternity.
  • Build upon the foundation of Christ.
  • Press forward with faith in Christ.
  • Even as we encounter difficulties and face the uncertainties of the future we can peacefully persevere and be blessed to hush our fears as we learn and live Gospel Fears and resolutely press forward on the Covenant Path.
  • Every man and woman will be accountable for his or her own sins in the day of judgment.
  • Godly fear is the beginning  of knowledge, the instruction of wisdom, a strong confidence, and the instruction of life.
  • The fear of the Lord is not a reluctant apprehension about coming into his presence, rather it is of the prospect, in his presence, about facing things as they really are about ourselves, and having a perfect knowledge of our rationalizations, ultimately we will be left without excuse.
  • If our desires have been for righteousness and our works good, then the judgment bar will be pleasing and our reward great.
  • Godly fear dispels mortal fears.
  • Our works and desires alone cannot save us, only through the atonement of Christ can all men be saved.
  • Godly Fear is loving and trusting in Him. As we fear God more Completely we Love him more Perfectly. And Perfect Love casteth out all Fear.
Elder D. Todd Christofferson
  • Marriage is more than love between you and your spouse.
  • Your love is your own personal possession, but marriage is a status and an office. That can be a link in the generations.
  • Marriage is what joins you together in the sight of god and man, not the love you hold for each other.
  • Love comes from you, but marriage comes from God above.
  • Can we be trusted in time and eternity with godly powers as we are now?
  • A family built on a marriage between a man and a woman provides the best opportunity for children to grow and learn, survive and flourish.
  • It has never been just about the love and happiness of adults.
  • It is when male and female become one in marriage that we obtain true meaning in becoming more like God.
  • Marriage is not a human invention, but is from God. It is big part of the plan of Happiness.
  • Do not ignore or abandon the obligation of Marriage.
  • Do not please the adversary!
  • Many things are Good. Many are Important, But only a FEW are Essential.
  • Everyone has gifts, everyone has talents, Everyone can contribute to help the future generations.
  • No one is predestined to receive less than what is available to all who follow God's Plan.
Elder Wilford W. Andersen
  • The joy of the dance will only be experienced when we come to hear the music.
  • If the children learn the dance moves of the gospel without hearing the music of the gospel they will begin to feel awkward.
  • Our children's happiness depends on their ability to hear and love the music of the gospel.
  • We have to align with the correct frequency in order to hear the music of the Spirit
  • We must ponder the path of our feet
  • Dissonance can't be corrected by criticism. Darkness can't go away by scolding it, but by introducting light.
Elder Dale G. Renlund
  • God cares a lot more about who we are and who we are becoming than who we once were. He cares that we keep trying.
  • The moment we decide to try again, the Atonement can help us.
  • It isn't the Holy Ghost that tells us that we're so far gone that we can't come back.
  • Be kind, patient, supportive, and understanding.
  • Allow others the space to correct themselves at their own pace.
  • If we don't try, we're just Latter-Day Sinners. If we don't persevere we're Latter-Day Quitters. And if we don't allow others to try then we're just Latter-Day Hypocrites.
Elder Michael T. Ringwood
  • Commence in your youth to follow the Lord and his Commandments.
  • Set a good example for others.
  • Set out to please others.
  • Set out to do right for right's sake, not for the praise of others.
  • Great Women and Men are always more anxious to serve than to have Dominion.
  • Seek to be truly good without Guile.
  • Find ways to consistently serve and uplift others.
  • Go out and do good continually.
  • The service that counts the most is usually only recognized by God.
Elder Quentin L. Cook.
  • Follow the sun across the sign to obtain the restorative energy needed to survive.
  • We flourish and become glorious despite the terrible circumstances that surround us when we follow Christ, truly he is light and life.
  • Stand firm and true and follow the Savior.
  • The role of the family is to bring us happiness.
  • Seek guidance in the Lord and decide jointly with your spouse on what to do with your family.
  • Provide consistency in the gospel with your family and they will always know what time it is at home.
  • The Church has never been stronger.
  • Remember the worth of souls is great in the site of God.
  • We reach out to Everyone.
  • Stand resolutely in righteousness. The atonement has the ability to protect you more than you can ever fully understand.
