183rd Semi Annual General Conference Highlights part 2

Okay! Day Two of catching up on what work made me miss! Here we go :D

Sunday Morning

President Henry B. Eyring
  • Heavenly Father has made each of us unique. Not all of us have the same experiences, or the exact same families.
  • It's rather hard to give advice on how to be happy when there are so many different experiences.
  • Accept and magnify every calling offered to you in the church. That is one of the keys to having happiness in the family.
  • To reject a calling can put us, and our families, into mortal peril.
  • Be equally yoked in marriage.
  • It will take the help of God and time, to polish us for eternal life.
  • God has devised means to help each of his children.
  • There must be justice, but the opportunity of mercy will be given, yet it won't rob justice.
  • There is joy guaranteed for the faithful.

Elder Dallin H. Oaks.
  • It's not a question of rather we have other priorities, but what is our ultimate priority?
  • We are a family centered church.
  • The ultimate treasure on earth and in heaven is our children and our posterity.
  • The United States now has its lowest birth rate in it's history.
  • Low birth rates can affect the longevity of cultures and of nations.
  • The traditional family is starting to become the exception instead of the rule.
  • The role of fathers appears to be diminishing in the world.
  • God loves all of his children everywhere.
  • We respect others of other believes.
  • We are hopeful others will be equally respectful to our believes and how they influence our lives.
  • Look to God's law for our Standard of Behavior.
  • Civil laws don't change God's laws and his commandments.
  • Courage not Compromise brings the smile of God's approval.
  • Have Courage to Stand for what you believe in.
  • Never deviate from our paramount desire: to achieve eternal life.

Sister Bonnie L. Oscarson
  • Don't trade membership in the church for worldly promises.
  • It is possible to have a testimony of the gospel without living it. Don't do this. Become truly converted.
  • It will take time, effort, and work, but it will be worth it.
  • Exercise faith and live the Gospel Principles.
  •  We are often guilty of expecting the reward without having to work for it.
  • You have the primary responsibility for your own conversion.
  • When  you are converted, turn and strengthen your brethren.
  • Stan in Holy Places.

Elder Richard J. Maynes
  • It is important to remember that the spiritual strength we develop will help us as we go through this mortal life.
  • The challenges we face, if faithfully endured, will be for our benefit.
  • A testimony, like your body, needs to be in shape in order to endure.
  • You must become the rock that the river can't wash away.
  • The gospel doesn't give us immunity from death, but victory over it.

Elder Richard G. Scott
  • Father's are responsible to provide protection to their families.
  • Breaking a covenant with the Lord is never justified.
  • Satan will try to use our memory of any previous guilt to try and lure us back into his influence.
  • Fortify the weak areas to create strength.
  • You can defend your family faithfully without compromising your spiritual well being.
  • When the Lord speaks of weaknesses, it's always with mercy.
  • Repentance isn't punishment, it's the hope filled path to a more glorious future.
  • Don't be a 15-minutes-a-month-home/visiting-teacher. Become a real friend to them.
  • Give freely of your time and your attention.

President Thomas S. Monson
  • When the pathway of life takes a cruel turn, at times there appears to be no light at the end of the tunnel, surrounded by the shattered hopes and disappointed dreams, we feel abandoned, heart broken, alone We forget frequently that the heavenly virtue is acquired through patience.
  • Should we rise or should we falter?
  • We need to endure to the end.
  • Remember Job.
  • Job kept the faith. Will we do likewise?
  • Let us remember that others have passed the same way, endured, and then overcome.
  • I will not fail thee nor forsake thee.
  • Sadness and Suffering are Universal.
  • Don't dwell on what is lacking. Be grateful for your many blessings.
  • Difficulties allows us to change for the better.
  • Good Timber does not grow with Ease.
  • In trees and men good timber grows.
  • Whether it is the best of times or the worst of times, He is always with us.
  • May we have a commitment to our Heavenly Father that doesn't ebb and flow, but stays constant.
  • We truly need him every hour. Whether it's hours of sunshine or of rain.
  • "I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee."

Sunday Afternoon

Elder Quentin L. Cook
  • Do not exchange your glory for stuff that will not bring you profit in the Eternal Perspective.
  • Avoid spiritual, physical, and intellectual bondage because they can sometimes bring destruction.
  • People can bee brought to the knowledge of the Lord without leaving their homeland.
  • Righteous living is a prerequisite in gathering Israel.
  • Women are making magnificent contributions in every field they endeavor in.
  • We will come to regret it, however, if women and their children don't have time to form meaningful bonds.
  • It's hard to change society at large, but we can work to change the moral culture around us.
  • Come to Zion.
  • We do not save ourselves, we are liberated by the love, grace, and atoning sacrifice of the Savior.

Elder Neil L. Andersen
  • We can live every hour, blessed by the strength of priesthood power, whatever our circumstance.
  • The priesthood is the power and authority of God.
  • The blessings of the priesthood are infinitely greater then the one asked to administer the gift.
  •  Sacred responsibilities are given to each gender.
  • The power of the priesthood doesn't work independently of faith.
  • Gifts are administered in different ways, but they all come from the same God.
  • Righteousness is a qualifier to invite priesthood power into our lives.
  • The light of the body is the eye.
  • Voice by women is vital in life, in marriage an in building the kingdom of God.

Elder David M. McConkie
  • Teachers are one of the great miracles in the restoration of the gospel.
  • God speaks. He spoke anciently, he spoke to Joseph Smith, and he'll speak to you.
  • This is why you're great teachers in the world, because God can speak to you.
  • You are on the Lord's errand. You are his agent. And you are entitled to his health.
  • You are called to Preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, not your own ideals and philosophies sprinkled among scriptures.
  • Live so that we can have the Holy Ghost as our constant companion.
  • The most important part of your service is your own daily personal spiritual preparation.
  • Seek to attain his word before seeking to teach it.
  • You can't expect the spirit to help you remember the principles and scriptures you have not studied.
  • If we'll listen with spiritual ears our students will tell us what they want to hear.
  • Teachers are still too comfortable giving the same content repeatedly and not teaching by the spirit, which their students desperately need.
  • You must be willing to let go of your lesson plan, outlines and notes, and go where the promptings of the spirit takes you. It then will become the Savior's lesson instead of your lesson.
  • Always learn something from what you have said. A teacher is also a student as well.
  • Don't just echo the words in a manual and the thoughts of others.

Elder Kevin S. Hamilton
  • Continually hold fast to the iron rod.
  • Why three separate meetings? Sacrament meeting provides the opportunity to participate in the Sacrament. Sunday School allows us to teach one another the doctrine of the kingdom. Priesthood -a time for men/young men to learn their duty. Relief Society -Increase their faith, and strengthen homes.
  • We should strive to attend ALL of our Sunday meetings. Blessings and Peace will come.
  • Don't choose good activities when we can instead choose better or best activities.
  • A simple choice can have far reaching consequences.

Elder Adrian Ochoa
  • Don't forget to look up.
  • Pay attention to the signs of our times.
  • By their fruits ye shall know them.
  • Remain constant. Worthy of the spirit.
  • Can good fruit grow from a bad tree?
  • Prepare ourselves. There is safety in a strong testimony.

Elder Terence M. Vinson
  • Love God as a true Friend.
  • Do we take seriously the promises we make when we take the sacrament?
  • Remove ourselves from the source of danger.
  • Rather then solve the problem himself, the Lord wants us to develop the faith to rely on him, depend him and trust him when problems arise.

Elder Russell M. Nelson
  • Decisions Determine Destiny.
  • You are never too young to learn or too old to change.
  • Pain comes as a warning that something is wrong and needs attention.
  • I give unto men weakness so that they may be humble. If they are humble and faith unto me, then I will make weak things become strong.
  • The gift of an imperfect body can strengthen home and family.
  • Your body is a temple of God. See your body as a Temple.
  • How you use your body affects your spirit.
  • You were chosen not for your bodily characteristics, but for your spiritual attributes.
  • Self mastery is the strength to use reason over appetite.
  • The Gospel of Jesus Christ is a Gospel of Change.
  • Freedom from Self Slavery is True Liberation.
  • Regardless of what civil legislation may be passed, God's laws do not change.
  • We cannot change his doctrine, it is not ours to change. His doctrine is ours to study, understand and uphold.
  • The Lord's way is the only way to experience enduring happiness.
  • Each day is a day of decision and each decision determines destiny.
  • Chose wisely, each day's decision for eternity.

President Thomas S. Monson
  • We have been blessed to meet together in peace and safety.
  • Constantly nourish your testimony of the gospel, that they may be a protection to you.
