184th Annual General Conference Sunday Highlights

Sunday Morning Session

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf
  • We all at some point face the 'end' of something. Leaving us feeling alone, frustrated, and adrift. The situation may be different for everyone, but there is something that may take away the bitterness, and make life sweeter. We can be grateful.
  • This may seem contrary to the world, but if we think in terms of gratitude we can find peace and understanding from the 'ending.'
  • Be grateful for the blessings that you cannot number. Don't focus on just the ones you can count.
  • The Lord doesn't expect us to be less grateful in times of trial compared to times of abundance and ease.
  • Have an attitude of gratitude.
  • Be grateful in our circumstances and not just for things.
  • The choice is ours. We can choose to limit our gratitude based on the blessings we feel we lack, or we can choose to have our grateful heart never falter.
  • We can choose to be grateful no matter what. It will surpass disappointment discouragement and despair.
  • How much of life do we miss by waiting to see the rainbow before thanking God that there is rain.
  • There is something within in us that seems to resist endings. That is because we are made up of the substance of eternity.
  • Endings in mortal life aren't ending at all, they're temporary pauses on our way to eternity.
  • There are no endings, only everlasting beginnings.
Elder M. Russell Ballard
  • Be persistent even in the face of discouragement.
  • No matter how good your message is, you may not get the chance to deliver it without persistent follow up.
  • Extending an invitation without following up is like buying a ticket to a concert and not going to the theater. It's hollow.
  • We can all be more consistently involved in missionary work by replacing our fear with real faith.
  • The Lord will not let us down.
Sister Jean A. Stevens
  • God hears and answers our prayers.
  • God is watching over us, we are not alone.
  • The Lord is mindful of me.
  • Whenever the dark shadows blanket the world, God will be there to help us through it.
  • Prayer doesn't change God, it changes me.
  • Put your trust in God. Acknowledge His hand in your life.
  • You can feel peace in the midst of turmoil.
  • If you trust in the Lord truly, you can overcome any of life's challenges.
  • The Gospel of Jesus Christ is not a checklist of things to do, it's a way we live our lives.
  • The Gospel is not a weight, it is wings.
Bishop Gary E. Stevenson
  • You are an eternal being. You have trained and prepared to come to this earth for a 'brief' moment and perform. This life is your 'four minutes.' ( 4 mins -referring to Olympics competitions) How will you do?
  • Do you sense the urgency? Wherever you are in your 'four minute' performance, think to yourself 'what do I need to do next, to get my medal?'
  • Don't wait. Your four minutes will pass quickly, and you'll have eternity to think of what you did in this life.
  • Let us run with patience the race that is set before us.
  • No one really knows when your 'four minutes' will be over. You may be thinking it's already 'over' the 'four minutes' is a disaster. I won't make it. My advice. Stop thinking that. It's never too late to make a change. Don't delay.
  • I am a competitor, I want to do my best, but I want my fellow competitors to do their best too.
  • The time is now.
  • If you seek His help, and follow His directions, how can you fail?
Elder David A. Bednar
  • Each of us carries a load. Full of different needs, wants, weaknesses, strengths, etc.
  • Is the load you're carrying providing the spiritual traction needed to move forward?
  • Sometimes we mistakenly believe that happiness is the absence of bearing a load.
  • Be careful to not haul around too many nice, but unnecessary things.
  • The Lord will strengthen you so that you can bear your burdens with ease.
  • There is no physical pain, emotional wound, and/or spiritual heartache that you and I confront in this life that Jesus Christ doesn't know and understand. He has felt and borne our individual burdens.
  • Become agents who act, instead of objects to be acted upon.
President Thomas. S. Monson
  • He who loves God, loves his fellow man as well.
  • Love is the very essence of the Gospel.
  • I've never yet, felt the tinge of regret for being a little too kind.
  • Everyday of our lives we are given opportunities to show love and kindness to those around us.
  • Charity is the pure love of Christ.
  • Some of the greatest opportunities to show love can be within the walls of our own homes.
  • Why is it the ones we should love most, become the targets of harsh words from us.
  • The reasons do not matter, we need to treat each other with kindness and respect. Discipline will have to sometimes be handed out, but in such cases show an increase of love soon after.
  • Be sensitive to the thoughts, feelings, and circumstances around us.
  • We must be careful that we do not destroy another person's confidence through careless words and actions.
  • It doesn't matter how small the issue is, it shouldn't be left to fester.
  • Blame keeps wounds open, only forgiveness heals.
  • Perhaps you will forget tomorrow, the kinds words you said today, but the recipient will remember them for a lifetime.
Sunday Afternoon Session

President Boyd K. Packer
  • Parenthood is a sacred privilege.
  • We don't always know how or when blessings will present itself.
  • We must build our foundation upon Christ for he will anchor, hold us, and support us as we go through the storms of life.
Elder William R. Walker
  • Live true to the Faith.
  • When we get the inspiration from heaven to do something, we do it now, we don't procrastinate.
  • We must not forget what we have heard and experience when it comes to spiritual things.
  • Honor the legacy of our forefathers.
Elder L. Tom Perry
  • Unless the team believes that it needs a driver, they won't work well together and succeed.
  • The driver knows best.
  • Be ready to receive the gentle tug of the spirit.
  • We must be sensitive to our spiritual 'bits' (reference to the horse bit on a harness.)
  • There are very few 'one size fits all' solutions in life for there is a huge variety in human life and experience between everyone.
  • Too often we think of obedience as passive and thoughtless. Actually at its best obedience is an emblem of our faith in the wisdom and power of the highest authority, God.
  • Those who focus on themselves and their desires are so limited compared to those who tap into God's powers and his insights.
  • Those who are wrapped up in themselves make a very small package.
  • Obedience is a choice. It is a choice between our own limited knowledge and power and God's unlimited knowledge and power.
Elder Lawrence E. Corbridge
  • Opposition and antagonism are companions to whenever truth is revealed.
  • There will always be a force ready to oppose truth.
  • Why aren't they left alone? Because it is the truth, and the truth won't be left alone.
  • The family is a pattern of Heaven.
Elder Michael John U. Teh
  • Be full of gratitude for the help you receive even if it's only a little help.
  • In times of calamity and tragedy is a time where the Lord helps us to refocus on what is really important.
  • Out of necessary we are involved in making money in order to support our family.
  • There is no end to what the world has to offer so it's critical that we learn to recognize when we have enough.
  • Do not spend money for that which is of no worth and cannot satisfy.
  • Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
  • The family is ordained of God. It is the most important unit in time an eternity.
  • The words of Christ will tell you all things that you should do.
  • No matter what happens, always pay your tithing.
Elder Marcos A. Aidukaitis
  • The Internet provides many opportunities for learning.
  • Satan uses this great tool to promote doubt and fear, and destroy faith and hope.
  • The world is increasingly becoming more blunt in its attack towards God and his teachings.
  • Do not 'harden your heart' for you will not be able to understand the mysteries of God.
  • Faith requires work.
  • Ask with an honest heart.
  • Sincerely seek the truth. Do all in your power to find it.
  • Trust the Lord. Have hope in his promises.
Elder D. Todd Christofferson
  • Christ is a divine being, no mere mortal has the power to come back to life after dying.
  • Doubts are groundless.
  • The grace of Christ is real.
  • Faith is more than imagination.
  • Death is not our end.
President Thomas S. Monson
  • Carefully review and study the conference talks in the next few days.
  • May resolve to do a little better than we have done in the past.
  • Our Heavenly Father is mindful of us, he will guide and bless us as we put our faith in him through the difficulties we may face.
  • May we ever be found doing the work of the Lord.

The Dream

A guy came into the store wanting to do a return for a purchase of his, so I took it upon myself to do so as Ali was busy and the other registers were rather busy with other customers. I first started out on like Register 3 or 4, but I somehow ended up in the grooming salon as the room back there was a storage area where we held all the products that needed to be returned. It wasn't a big room and it was stuffed full of like fish tanks, cans of food, and carts full of stuffed animals. And most of those were his. I started off scanning the fish tanks to return them, asking him why he'd bought so many tanks. It seemed like he bought a bunch of them just so that he could try them out in his room and decide which ones he liked. That wasn't the case for all of them, some of the tanks were broken, and one of the managers was mad at the other manager Chel because she was supposed to check the tanks before they left the store to make sure that they were all whole, but this tank, none of the sides lined up correctly. In any case, I got done scanning the tanks...to realize that this guy was wracking up the dollars like $3,557, and I was like...maybe I shouldn't be doing this because I saw an item that we didn't carry in the store, and he might have gotten online. And so I asked him if he had a receipt, and he didn't. So I was like....crap. I really don't know if I could do this. So I went to ask a manager for help and explained the situation, but it was taking forever and when I got back, the tanks were gone and the register had signed me out, so I had to start over. I asked Ali where the tanks had gone and she was like "I moved them to the back, though you'll still have to put tags on them to say that they're returned." And I was like "Well, they need to be brought up here so I can rescan them." And while I was waiting for the manager to come up, I started working on the smaller items, which there actually weren't that many. I thought the whole room had been his stuff, but it hadn't. In any case, I got done scanning the small things when the manager came up to see the situation, and I realized...maybe I shouldn't have done the smalls either, but the guy had been waiting in the store for forever and I didn't want to keep him waiting, plus I felt bad for him to haul all this stuff here only to have us possibly not accept it back....

Then the unholy tones of daylight pulled me away....
and I became myself again. :)
