After The Story

It's rather depressing when something you like is no longer around.
Especially if it's books or TV shows.
Especially if it's something that's been long running.

I mean.
If you consider it.
Those characters in those books and movies, almost become like a friend to you.
You've grown up with them.
Read about all their adventures.
Watched them go through similar problems that you yourself may have faced.

And then suddenly.

It's the last book.
The season finale.

And like a friend that's suddenly moved away to another country....
They're no longer part of your life.

No new episodes.
No new books.
No new problems.
Adventures.
Relationships.

Nothing.

Who knows what they've been up to since the series ended....

And so, you grow apart.
Forget about them.
Until....on happenstance, you encounter that old favorite book, find that tv series on sale.
And a happy reunion is formed.
Where you share fond memories and relieve the 'glory days'

Only...at the end of the day.
To realize that there is nothing new to learn.

It's rather depressing really.

There should be some sort of 'update' requirement for these things.
Where a short film, or a short story is posted like once a year,

That gives those fans an update.
Let's them get glimpse into the lives of the characters of that series.
See them get older and such.

Of course, this could have it's drawbacks as well. (who would want their favorite characters to get 'old'??)

But in many cases. I think it would be good to get an update.
Like the Harry Potter epilogue at the end of Book 7.
Where you get a glimpse into the future, see how some of the characters turned out.

It may be something I'll consider in my own writing.
Releasing updates and such on characters once the main story is finished.
Could be cool. ^^;;

We'll see when I hit that point. lol :)

Until you next read these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!
