October 2000 General Conference Saturday Morning

Gordon B. Hinckley -A Great Family in Reverence and Worship
  • Welcome to each of you, wherever you may be.
Robert D. Hales -The Covenant of Baptism: To Be in the Kingdom and of the Kingdom
  • I learned that constant, intense pain is a great consecrating purifier that humbles us and draws us closer to God's Spirit.
  • "All Latter-day Saints enter the new and everlasting covenant when they enter this Church. They covenant to cease sustaining, upholding and cherishing the kingdom of the Devil and the kingdoms of this world. They enter the new and everlasting covenant to sustain the Kingdom of God and no other kingdom.
  • We need the Holy Ghost as our constant companion to help us make better choices in the decisions that confront us daily.
  • Non of us are immune from the temptations of the adversary. We all need the fortification available through the Holy Ghost.
  • By choosing to be in His kingdom, we separate--not isolate--ourselves from the world.
D. Todd Christofferson -The Redemption of the Dead and the Testimony of Jesus
  • Some have misunderstood and suppose that deceased souls "are being baptized into the Mormon faith without their knowledge" or that "people who once belonged to other faiths can have the Mormon faith retroactively imposed on them." They assume that we somehow have power to force a soul in matters of faith. Of course, we do not. God gave man his agency from the beginning. "The dead who repent will be redeemed, through obedience to the ordinances of the house of God," but only if they accept those ordinances. The Church does not list them on its rolls or count them in its membership.
  • Our anxiety to redeem the dead, and the time and resources we put behind that commitment, are, above all, an expression of our witness concerning Jesus Christ. It constitutes as powerful a statement as we can make concerning His divine character and mission.
  • It testifies, first, of Christ's Resurrection; second, of the infinite reach of His Atonement; third, that He is the sole source of salvation; fourth, that He has established the conditions for salvation; and, fifth, that He will come again.
  • "There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus."
Alexander B. Morrison -"Come and See"
  • "Come and see," and in your coming lay your burdens at His feet. Give away all your sins that you might see and know Him. "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden," He said, "and I will give you rest."
  • "Come unto Him, and He will take away your sins and heal your soul, though it be sick with sin. He will replace hatred with love and selfishness with service. He will strengthen your shoulders to better bear your burdens and give you new courage and hope for the journey ahead.
Loren C. Dunn -Testimony
  • Every temple is important and offers the same ordinances necessary for eternal life.
Margaret D. Nadauld -The Joy of Womanhood
  • "Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose." From that statement we are taught that every girl was feminine and female in spirit long before her mortal birth.
  • Femininity "is the divine adornment of humanity. It finds expression I your ... capacity to love, your spirituality, delicacy, radiance, sensitivity, creativity, charm, graciousness, gentleness, dignity, and quiet strength. It is manifest differently in each girl or woman, but each ... possesses it. Femininity is part of your inner beauty."
  • Women of God can never be like women of the world. The world has enough women who are tough; we need women who are tender. There are enough women who are coarse; we need women who are kind. There are enough women who are rude; we need women who are refined. We have enough women of fame and fortune; we need more women of faith. We have enough greed; we need more goodness. We have enough vanity; we need more virtue. We have enough popularity; we need more purity.
  • Celebrate the fact that girls are different from boys.
Russell M. Nelson -Living by Scriptural Guidance
  • When connected with your help line, you learn that you need to make a climb here or a turn there to get back on course.
  • False gods can only lead to dead ends.
  • Brothers and sisters, our busy lives force us to focus on things we do from day to day. But the development of character comes only as we focus on who we really are.
  • Truth should be fractionalized. Truth is indivisible.
  • Danger lurks when we divide ourselves with expressions such as "my private life," "my professional life," or even "my best behavior." Living life in separate compartments can lead to internal conflict and exhausting tension. To escape that tension, many people unwisely resort to addicting substances, pleasure seeking, or self-indulgence, which in turn produce more tension, thus creating a vicious cycle.
David B. Haight -Be a Strong Link
  • Life is a great chain of generations, link following link, until the end of time.
  • Encourage them not to be a weak link but to be a strong link in their family.
  • Be a strong link for your posterity. Do not be the weak link. Wouldn't that be a terrible thing to do? To think of that long chain and of all that work that needs to be done in the saving of souls and of the precious work that needs to be done, wouldn't it be sad if you were the one who was the weak link that caused your descendants not to be able to be part of that strong linkage.
  • May your links be strong. May you personally find the great joy and the happiness that can be ours through living the principles of the gospel.
Until you next see these words;
I'll be watching the leaves.
Enjoy the day!

The Dream

There were two boys walking along the backyard of my parents/my neighbor's place when one of them tripped and brushed up against an old human skull that was sticking out of the ground. He probably tripped due to the other boy pushing him. Because he brushed up against this skull, this boy gained the abilities of 'Jack Frost' -Snow,ice wind- that are -for the most part- connected with this staff that looked a lot like the staff from Prince of Egypt. His mood, can also influence the weather as well. Jack wasn't happy to get the powers, as it was more responsibility than he wanted, but his best friend...tried everything he could think of to also get powers, to no avail, and this made the best friend jealous of Jack. Even going to the point of begging to give him his powers. Jack refused though because he knew that power wouldn't sit well with his best friend. He would use it wrongly, and even though Jack didn't want these powers...he couldn't let his friend misuse them. So the Best Friend in a bit of a Prince of Egypt vibe, took it personally, which tore up Jack to the point where storm clouds gathered and threatened the area. Still....he decides to consider giving up his unwanted powers....

When the unholy tones of daylight pulled me away....
and I became myself again. :)
